This place is always clean and has the freshest produce. They have people in the floor checking to make sure the produce and stock is fresh and up to date. They're always so quick to open more registers if they notice long lines. Their hot food selection is huge. I enjoyed my first visit to Pete's with an elderly client as she shopped here for the first time as well. They are a tad pricy on produce, but they had deals on some things. I really did peg the store as a place where one shops the sale items and doesn't grab essentials, such as snacks and condiments, as prices on those were really high. Employees were very patient with my client's walker getting in the way when stocking, which I appreciated. She was trying to navigate it all, and it went well even when people stocking made aisles challenging to navigate. The store is very clean. When there, they had some sort of donation promotion going on. When someone donated money, employees at the registers used those loud plastic hand-clackers and one blew a whistle. That was a lot. Not sure if this happens year-round. It's just really loud, and dare I say, a bit obnoxious. Shopping there with someone who startles easily, and is not strong on her feet, made that whole aspect super stressful. read more

I have been coming to Little Village, Chicago neighborhood for some time now, yet I have not once visited this Pete's Fresh Market location due to me being accustomed to the Madison St location which is the closest to my neighborhood. However, after doing laundry, and thrift shopping nearby, I visited it in search of plant based Incogmeato Chik'n and Eggo Liège Style Waffle Sandwiches that I have grown to love and typically purchase from Pete's. As for this visit, I had no issues finding a parking spot for my vehicle in spite of the lot being shared with several other businesses. I found an open spot shortly after I pulled into the parking lot, not too far from the entrance of this location. Inside, the atmosphere felt relaxed, with a different layout in comparison to the Madison St location. Along with the items shelved being organized, the market is acceptably clean, and the aisles have plenty of maneuvering space in-between them. As mentioned, I searched for plant based Incogmeato Chik'n and Eggo Liège Style Waffle Sandwiches which I could not find out of the diverse selection of plant-based options. Instead, I found Jimmy Dean Plant-Based Patty Frozen Breakfast Sandwiches which I typically purchase from Food4Less. That alone is a game-changer as far as where I will grocery shop in the future because I love them just as much as the Chik'n and Eggo Liège Style Waffle Sandwiches. Along with being impressed with the plant based and vegan selections in the frozen section, I took a liking to a few other items like the FOCO brand drinks, the Swad - Party Samosas, and the Actual Veggies - Black Bean Veggie Burgers which will definitely be an option in the future. While in line, waiting to be rang up by the clerk at the register, I could not help but enjoy 'Ain't Nobody' by Chaka Khan being played in the background which put me at ease and in good spirits after shopping. This was a much-needed break for me rather than going out of my way to visit Jewel-Osco, Mariano's, Tony's Fresh Market, or even Food4Less. A shame what they recently done to their Deli, downsized it. They wish to switch to pre-packaged, like they did with their Meat-Seafood Dept. In the process they eliminated one of the best Deli Cold Cut brands they sold, Kretchmar. Also their Northstar products such as Sausages, and Hams-Bacons, they're gone too. Prices in general are just about as expensive as Whole Foods for non-organic average day to day items. Other cuts of specialty items I've noticed, on and on, no longer sell Turano Breads, dropped Bacons such as Neuske which is the best tasting commercial bacons IMO. Eggs here are even more expensive than Whole Foods, way out of line. I've decided to shop elsewhere from now on. read more

Almost weekly for years, I'd been driving from downtown loop passing numerous grocery stores and coming to Pete's to shop for my family -- but today, that loyalty ended. 3 weeks ago, my wife asked me to bring home chocolate cake for our three year old (and her). So I grabbed a package of four giant cupcakes from the bakery section here at Pete's and figured that would do the trick... When I got home, both of my kids were so excited for the chocolate cupcakes -- so I gave one to each and one for my wife. A few minutes later, they all put their cupcakes on the counter with a single bite taken. Even my 3 year old who eats anything didn't want any more! How bad could it be?! Chocolate cake isn't my thing but I took a bite of one... utterly awful! Okay, wrong purchase... it's okay, I grabbed the receipt and put it with the remainder of the cupcakes and assumed I'm sure Pete's will take care of me next time I'm there. Just a $6 purchase. However- Ernesto, the store manager, decided today NOT to take care of me. He told me to call corporate... so I called the number he gave and customer service also agreed our satisfaction didn't warrant a refund. So after years of patronage, the one time I return something -- instead of concern for my family's satisfaction... all they could think about what the fact that I'd made the purchase 3 weeks ago. I naively thought the policy wasn't the point... even the $6 wasn't the point... the POINT was- the many thousands of dollars we've spent there at Pete's should have mattered enough to care that we didn't leave unhappy. While I waited on hold with customer service I realized my patronage didn't matter to Pete's and I was already in my car leaving by the time they came back on the line to say they couldn't do the $6 refund. At that point, they'd already lost my family's loyalty and patronage. There are too many OTHER places we can shop- MUCH closer even... where we'll be appreciated enough that some $6 cupcakes won't end years of patronage. Pulled up my credit card and looked at 2022. Spent nearly $6,000 at Pete's last year and had been going 4-5 years. Number of times I returned something: ZERO. Just like Ernesto had the power to deny my refund, shoppers like me have the power to shop elsewhere! Shame on you Pete's for allowing this type of quiet quitting service. I've shopped @ Pete's Fresh Market regularly since moving to Little Village. It's more expensive than the other groceries in the neighborhood, but I felt confident they offer a good product. Literally, I've dropped $thousands there. The company makes a big deal about high quality and customer service, so I was pretty surprised when I complained about getting a rancid gallon of expensive, organic milk, and they were like 'YOUR PROBLEM I GUESS.' I expect this kind of dismissive attitude about food quality and customer service from international corporate jerks; when I'm paying a premium, I expect better food and better treatment. Failure to take responsibility signals a business in decline. If what I buy is just as likely to be rancid as good, I can get it for cheaper elsewhere. People in this neighborhood work hard, and deserve respect. read more

Pete's: Yes, and we're open until 10. ::happy dance ensues:: Boniato was the key ingredient in a dish I was making and just when I was ready to throw in the towel, Pete's ended my search for the elusive Latin tuber. I was ecstatic that Pete's not only knew what boniato (aka white sweet potato aka Cuban sweet potato aka camote) was, but that they carried it. I called Pete's after recalling Rafael C. rave about their awesomeness; he did not exaggerate. Pete's is enormous. When you (read: me) think of a market, you usually think of a small place, but Pete's is the size of a large grocery store. I was awestruck by the aisles of fresh produce and hard to find ethnic items. Before I could remember what brought me here, I had a cart full of fresh pico de gallo, grapefruit, tomatoes, potatoes, onions and apples. I was a bit bummed I'd purchased shallots at Whole Foods earlier, as Pete's looked much better. The store is more than just produce, they have all of the items you'd expect from a regular grocery store and a bunch of other items you wouldn't. They carry an array of ethnic items, and not just those of the Latin persuasion. They also have a nice selection, I was a little overwhelmed by my choices at times. By the time I left had bought way more than what was on my ingredient list and all for only $33! I could've probably spent twice that, but I worried about fridge space and was afraid the fresh items would spoil before I could eat them. wah! Staff is super friendly here; the produce stockers were friendly and quick to offer assistance and my cashier was a doll. This is only my second time visiting a Pete's in my life and I was equally impressed and excited. This really is a heavenly place to shop. The store was CLEAN and people were genuinely happy to be there. When I had a question, I was not pointed in the direction, I was walked to the product. The veggies were well stocked, fresh, and REASONABLY priced. I walked out with a CART full of goodies for $40. Let's just say I have been chef'n it up thanks to Pete's! Well, it certainly is a beautiful store - on par with some of the newer Dominick's - and it has a wonderful selection of Latino groceries. I think I counted six different kinds of Masa Harina alone! You arent getting THAT in a Dominicks on the North side, thats for sure! The produce area is humongous and I wish I had more time to check that area out. I felt the prices in general were on the high side, but the sale prices were excellent. Bought a few things from the bakery and was disappointed. Supermarket bakeries to me always have that "sugar-over-tastelessness" thing going on, and Pete's was no exception. Oh well, too bad. Cashiers are very friendly and the parking lot is a good size. These is a great Pete's location overshadowed by incompetent staff. They seem to lie regularly. We asked where the restrooms were on two seperate occasions and they told us they were out of order. It6hard to believe that's the case. Where would the employees go. If they didnt want it open to the public because of covid 19, they could have been honest and but they just repeatedly lied. I tried to use Samsung Pay here and the employee said they dont take it. I gave up and paid with my credit card. I would have preferred using my phone so I have one less thing to disinfect when I get home. I came back here on another occasion the cashier charged me the wrong prices so I decided to pay with Samsung Pay and it went through perfectly fine. Third occasion, another cashier said it doesnt work here and he calls over another employee who says Apple Pay doesnt work here, I correct him and tell him I've used it here before. A third employee comes over and says their contract (nonexistent) with Samsung expires and they are no longer paying them. Biggest bull shit I've heard about Samsung Pay. Not happy at all. I had a easy and fast request. My citrus juicer broke at home and I needed to make 2 cups of fresh lime juice and 2 cups of fresh lemon juice for a small (socially distanced) gathering today. They make and sell fresh juices, so I thought they'd be able to save the day! I called the store and I spoke to a woman named Veronica who I thought was the manager after I requested to speak to one so I could just handle it faster. She seemed eager to help and transferred me to the juice department. The lady at the juice department gave me a hard no because she needed to use her lemons and limes for other juices... Let me explain something here. They have a machine juicer. It takes about 10 lemons and 18 limes to make exactly what I requested. That is a total of maybe 5 minutes to start and finish. They could have charged me whatever they wanted. But she completely refused to help...so I got back on the phone with Veronica and she told me she didn't understand either why she couldn't do it for me but that they would "maybe" be able to do it for me tomorrow... She also said she tried transferring me to the store manager several times and he didn't pick up. I called another Pete's grocery store on Madison not too far, talked to an awesome gentleman named Nick and made the same request... He had my order in within 2 minutes-No problem, No transferring, No silly weird excuses just an order total and a pick up time of an hour. I give the Pilsen grocery store a thumbs down! read more

A great place to buy fresh produce, i get all my vegetables and fruits from this place, and I love their butcher area, and as well as their seafood station. It is lost cost on quality meat. However, I only give it three stars, because you have to be careful what kind of meat you pick-up in that section where it is pre-packaged. A few times I got pre-packaged taco meat it was too gritty to eat. And their baby back ribs aren't very meaty or juice when I tried to make BBQ Ribs. read more

I am new to the area and have been shopping here the past week. Today I was walking to the park when I stopped here to use the bathroom. Their main bathroom is under construction. I asked the manager if I can use the bathroom and he started asking me a brunch of questions to verify I was a costumer. He said that if I was truly a costumer I should know where the bathrooms are. I frequently shop here at the Pete's located at 2526 W Cermak Rd. Chicago IL, 60608 . I've been shopping here for nearly a year with no problem. I usually come here a couple of times a week because it's in walking distance from where I live. On 2/18/2020 my friend Patrick and I were shopping from approximately 9pm until about 9:30 pm. We felt like we were being followed around by one of the employees. So we go to the register to ring out. Neda was our cashier . She's rung us out a few times in the past. Patrick hands her the bag and the groceries. She asks him didn't he just buy one the other day. He answers yes but he couldn't find the one he just purchased. She proceeds to ring us out. We chat and laugh with her while doing so then we leave. While walking home 3 people start running after us. We were out of the parking lot near Planet Fitness when they confronted us. One guy said very aggressively" You didn't pay for that bag." To which my friend responded " "Well I handed her all of my items along with this bag and I paid for them." The employee responded by accusing us of stealing stating " You know that you didn't pay for that bag. " And demanded we come back in the store. They then proceeded to threaten us with calling the police on us. At this point we were really confused because he was threatening to call the police over a mistake that they made in not ringing up the bag in the first place. I was appalled and frustrated at how unprofessionally they handled this matter. I was really confused because if they knew we didn't pay for the bag, why didn't the say something before we left the store? This is the worst grocery shopping experience I've ever had. Don't really go here that much because it's a bit out of the way for me. Compared to what I'm used to downtown this place is huge. The place is clean. They have a good selection of fresh produce and a pretty decent organic section. Well stocked with everything you need. Great place to stock up on staples such as rice. I used to head to Devon street for rice but now I just get that stuff here and usually there are some good deals to had. They also have a really nice bakery and hot food section, if you get hungry while you're shopping and just wanted to get something quick. Employees are friendly and helpful. I've only been here twice and both times on a weekday during the daytime. So it was not crowded at all and the check out was a breeze. I bet it gets super crowded in the weekends but I can't comment on that experience and what the service level is like then. read more

Yes, 3 liter of Nehi and or Old Towne soda. Color me purple cause I just bought 12 liters of Grape Soda! 2) not only did they have their generic mayo on sale for $0.79 a jar, but they had a deal where you buy ten and you get one free! I have my mayo for the week... All for under 8 bucks!!!! Yessss! 3) flour tortillas were 25 cents a package. I am usually a purist and put my mayo on bread (or toast during the winter), but for this price I will be going "south of the border" with my snacks this week. Note to self: You should know better by now, KB! Grab your fresh produce, your cheese, and your bakery favorites, but leave the meat on the shelf. I ran to Pete's to get food this weekend for my empty fridge. After my roommate and I spent a non-stop month working and traveling, our cupboards were bare, except for a wilted head of red cabbage and some moldy havarti dill cheese. Pete's to the rescue, or so I thought. I loved the fresh veggies and their low, low, how low can you go? price. I also got some of my favorite fresh guacamole and salsa to bring home. We eat that stuff out of their containers, on a spoon with a small helping of Stacy's pita chips. (We're such a healthy duo!) I was less enthused by the meat that I brought home. It looked nice and fresh, until I unraveled the cellophane and got a whiff of the contents. My prokchops? The ones I had planned to marinade in some honey-chili sauce I made myself and throw on our new grill? They had that smell that every cook recognizes: past-its-prime, spoiled meat. And so the marinade went into a jar and the pork chops went in the garbage. Since I didn't buy all that much meat, I froze the rest and hope this pork chop fiasco will be a one-off. I bought a roast from Pete's early this spring, and encountered the same problem. Since it only took me 20 minutes to get the food home in my air-conditioned car, it couldn't have spoiled on the way home. I used to be all about Dominicks... mainly because I lived in Ukie Village and it was super close to me... then I moved to Pilsen, enter Petes! Firstly, I hated Petes -- all Pete's actually, it was the name of former ex... grrrr BUT the name has been redeemed by this store alone. Pete's has made me more happy and has been more consistent with everything than the former Pete. Ha The deli is always stacked with fine turkey meat and different pasta, potato salads -- and the deli workers always let me taste anything if I've never had it before... mmm mmm And walk the down the aisles a little more and there are samplings of cheese and hot dogs. They say you shouldn't go to the grocery store hungry but that is one rule I will never follow cause I gotta have room for all the samplings. Avocado's .48 cents! And these are the good ones, not overly ripe mush. I'm sure the price does vary, however all the produce is well priced fresh and won't go bad on you overnight. Big selection in the deli meats and cheeses, prices there were all good to standard that you'd find in other stores. Even though you can get all your groceries done here you might want to stick to the produce and deli, because other items seem to be considerably higher. This is why it's not a five star review. I understand that they need to make up for some of the loss on the great produce prices, but really? I wouldn't mind if the produce was just a little higher and the other stuff a little lower, I'd be more inclined to purchase the other stuff and get it all done in one place. I lover this place! I live in the Pilsen area and have given up totally on the Jewel on Ashland ! The customer service is awful there and the place looks filthy! Now to Pete's. This place is as clean as clean can be. The fruits and vegetables are always stocked neatly. I almost hate to take an item off not wanting to ruin the display. The meat/butcher area is amazing! A wide selection of fresh meats to select from and friendly butchers. The Deli section is clean and always stocked with a wide selection of items at reasonable prices. I do however wish that Pete's would consider carrying Greek Sausage in the meat section. It is is hard to find this since the Grocery store on Halsted closed due to a fire. The Bakery section is always busy. You can smell fresh break baking 98% of the time and yes they are stocked warm. The cashiers are friendly and I like the fact that Pete's has not gone with automated tellers like Jewel and Dominick's. If you are not shopping here you must go! read more
