In 4 months this store has failed to process every single one of my online orders on time. If I just ignore and don't call, the order is cancelled at midnight from their system. When I do call I get some sob story about how they are understaffed then they immediately shop the order but inevitably leave items off or mark things out of stock though I've walked in the store and found them immedately where they are normally stocked. A couple times I've driven in to get what I need after no response on my order and there were people back in that area sitting on tables and joking around. No one was really looking to overworked. For the past 2 months I've been going to Villa Park Jewel who are always on time, professional and the orders are correct. Now Jewel is making you buy things in pairs so I may be moving on to other grocery stores soon. read more

I have been shopping at this Jewel-Osco location in Lombard for over 20 years, and unfortunately, the customer service has declined significantly over the years. My biggest concern is the Deli Department. The employees often come across as rude, unhelpful, and uninterested in assisting customers. Most recently, I visited around 10:00 a.m. to purchase chicken. Instead of receiving assistance, I was met with dismissive responses. One employee was quick to say, "I don't know," and volunteered that she wasn't there the previous day, even though I wasn't asking about the day before. I was simply trying to place an order for chicken. Customers should not feel like an inconvenience to the employees. If customers have questions or need assistance, they should be treated with courtesy and professionalism. The entire department could benefit from additional customer service training. Another ongoing issue has been the Produce Department. On one occasion, cantaloupes went three weeks without any pricing posted. I brought it to the attention of an employee multiple times and was told each time that the price would be added. After three weeks with no correction, I finally had to go to Customer Service to ask for pricing assistance. Since produce prices can change weekly, customers should not have to guess what they are paying. Management needs to take a serious look at customer service standards throughout this store. As a loyal customer of more than two decades, I should not feel like the store is doing me a favor by allowing me to spend my hard-earned money there. Long-time customers notice when service declines, and unfortunately, that is exactly what has happened at this location. I hope management addresses these concerns because this store has the potential to provide a much better shopping experience than it currently does. read more

Every week I get suckered into going here for grocery pick up because of the coupons but it is NOT worth it. The quality of the produce is horrific. Moldy, spoiled, rotten and just overall poor quality. If there is not visible mold, it is seconds away from going off or just tastes like it's been sitting out for weeks. The employees are always nice, I never had an issue with that. If you purchase through the app they usually give you a refund but if you buy in store you have to physically bring the moldy food back to the store which is crazy. Jewel please get this figured out. Okay, so let me get started with saying if you see a ginger haired lady with the name tag "Maureen" do not ask her for help nor even acknowledge her existence. I am saying this because she was absolutely the rudest employee ive encountered at Jewel Osco. Me and my dad were trying to buy a coconut because it was on sale. Unfortunately, we needed a coupon from the app for it. We didn't exactly know how to get the coupon, so we asked Maureen. Mind you, my dad was being cooperative and nice while Maureen was being nothing but nasty. She made snarky comments about how it wasn't that hard to get the coupon, and quoted "god I can't deal with these people". What did we even do?? Once we finished shopping, it was almost closing time. I felt bad for staying a few minutes, but now that I look back at the moment? I wish we stayed longer. We still didn't quite get the whole coupon thing, and this lady kept saying god bless America and how people like US aren't what she wants to deal with. We gave up on buying the coconut after she bickered with my dad about the coupon not being there and the coconut looking the same when it clearly wasn't, and left UNSATISFIED. I will give Shannon in the deli five stars because she did her best to rectify the situation with the website and customer service. I went online Saturday November 24 to order Thanksgiving dinner. The website said I could pick my turkey dinner up at 1pm on November 26, the day before Thanksgiving. I called yesterday with a question and Shannon told me my order and any orders made online from Saturday on-would not be honored. She said she went online and edited the page so no more orders would be placed and not honored. She said she'd tried to honor my order and would call me back. When we hung up I went online to see if the website was still accepting orders. It was. I decided to call customer service to inform them what was happening so they could rectify the system. When I called customer service, I had to explain the situation three times, and the woman basically told me it wasn't her problem. I told her that Lombard, and perhaps other stores would be getting some angry customers that thought they were picking up Thanksgiving dinners for their families on Wednesday. She then started asking me my address and other useless information that was irrelevant. I told her that if she didn't care, neither did I. Really poor customer service. I went grocery shopping with my family today, and the experience was absolutely terrible. The customer service and professionalism were completely lacking. I purchased Lay's chips because the promotion clearly stated "Buy 2, Get 3 Free." Since we bought 4 bags, we should have received 6 additional bags for free. Because it was a holiday, the store was crowded and the lines were long. My mom first tried to explain the promotion to the employees, and later when I came to clarify, one employee her name was Melissa, I believe was extremely rude and unprofessional. Her attitude toward my mom was completely unacceptable, which made me very upset. She refused to listen, flipped her employee ID to hide her name, and kept murmuring disrespectful comments under her breath. She was literally saying things like, "You guys are f****** holding up the line," instead of helping us or checking the deal properly. The store seriously needs better management. If a deal is being advertised, how is it not updated in the computer system? And when customers explain what the promotion says, we're obviously not making it up. The staff should verify the deal rather than dismissing customers and treating them disrespectfully. We were simply trying to shop as a family, and this entire encounter ruined our mood. I was involved in a car accident in the parking lot and even though the general employees were sympathetic and wanted to help they referred me to management who couldn't be bothered in checking the camera or helping in any way. Not understanding why you run a chicken deal on Mondays but every time I show up at six or 615 which is pretty normal for somebody getting off work at 5 o'clock and you're no longer making any chicken. Employees have never been very helpful but today I had one at the self check out who is downright rude. Had a problem with an item that I scanned. She came over and made me start all over again complaining the whole time. Red grapes have to be separated from green grapes, even though they are both the same price per her. Yoplait yogurt, regardless of the type was on sale however, she insisted that the protein had to be scanned separately. If Jewel would hire enough check out people, we would not have to do our own checkout not to mention now they are wanting exact items scanned so that they can do inventory control. I had thought I could get in and out of there quick. No such luck. If you go to this crap hole plan to spend time getting out. I for one will not be back there as Marianos is right down the street and is far superior in customer service, and the quality of their food. It's time for this chain to go! My family have shopped here for decades. The app consistently does not work, the salad I bought 3 days ago has liquified lettuce - 3 days. Milk consistently spoils before best by date and only a day or two after opening! They're regularly out of much produce, and pay very close attention to ALL of the EXPIRATION dates - many products are close to expiration or even past the expiration date - cans, boxes - all of it - this IS NOT isolated to this store - it's all of the Jewels I've shopped- Dupage, Kane, Boone, Mcahenry counties. The more I find, the more i look, the worse it gets. Last week I was stopped and barked at NOT to push the cart past the cashier of it has pop or water - they don't want the product on the belt and then treat you like a criminal with a case of water THEY haven't scanned all SO YOU CAN GO BAG YOUR OWN OVERPRICED GROCERIES!! I also bought a milk and chocolate drinks that I can pour to cereals. Then I went to the selection of cookies and I bought different cookies. Then I went to the selection of chocolates. I bought a chocolate a lot since my Tupperware of chocolate was already empty. Next I went to the selection of chips and snacks. I'm sad that their Dorito was already sold. So I bought other cookies. The people who work in produce are very helpful. The store is clean and well organized, has most things I need. 2 major complaints though - the meat counter and the deli. The meat and fish are good, nice presentation, but it is very hard to get someone to get the meat for you. There have been times that I've stood there waiting for so long for someone that I've walked over to ask someone in produce to find someone for me. (I never have this problem at the jewel in Downers Grove or at Mariano's). There needs to be some kind of bell or buzzer, doesn't seem like a difficult solution. And then there's the deli, which I try to avoid at all costs! The ladies who work there are just not nice! They don't acknowledge you while you are waiting, (even though at times there are three of them behind the counter, none of them will stop what they're doing, nor do they have the courtesy to say, "I'll be with you shortly). They don't ask how you would like your meat sliced, and I'm afraid to ask! (There is a young man and one young lady who work there who are nice, but I don't see them very often). Not sure why the deli is like it is, but it brings the whole store down. Like I said I try to avoid this deli, but sometimes I don't have time to stop at Mariano's on the way home:( read more

Smaller location, so I rarely do my regular weekly shopping at this Jewel. It's near my work, clean, organized, and convenient though, so I sometimes pop in for a few items. I came by on my lunch hour yesterday hoping to cash in on about 20 lucky Monopoly "Instant Win FREE item" tickets. I had trouble finding certain items and some were not available at this location, determined after a search today. I was able to find 3 donuts, but no bags to put the donuts in. Limited selection of donuts, but I was there mid-day so most donuts may have sold to hungry folks at breakfast time. There was a large fresh bread selection. I had one of the donuts and it was really delicious. Checker and bagger were both great- so friendly and welcoming. All in all I was able to cash in 11 of my 20 free items today. read more

I am giving 1 star because of the rudeness of the cashier. I shopped on Friday, December 7, 2018 from approximately 9:30pm-10pm. One of my purchasing items was a bottle of wine so naturally I kindly placed my ID on the counter before she started ringing me up so she wouldn't have to wait for me to show it to her. So much for my kind gesture. She said to me in a loud stern almost scolding voice, "put that away! I don't need to see it!" Trust me, I am 50 years old and I was not thinking anything except I was buying alcohol and rules are rules. And I also thought if she didn't need to see my ID, she could have politely acknowledged that I was doing the right thing. Not only did this cashier bark at me for showing my ID; she spoke to her hard-working bagger in a demeaning manner. The bagger was extremely efficient. I felt sorry that he was partnered with such an unapproving cashier. In my opinion, the cashier should have been bagging for the guy who was bagging. It's a shame I am giving this store a 1 star because all the isles looked beautiful and I would have given a 5 star review because I truly was impressed. And one more thing, I think I noticed shopping carts in the parking lot that needed to be brought inside. The cashier would've been better off suited for that job. If they say they close at 12, and I go out of my way to go to this location on my way home from a long day's work, I should not find the doors locked at 11:52 (especially since I needed all of two items). I am going to give this 2 stars, an extra star for the employees who are decent. I have been to this store exactly two times since Mariano's opened, but I had been a strong customer at this Jewel location for many years. The problem I had were the handful of long term employees who were just burnt out and rude. I will maintain a certain amount of decorum here and not mention any names. Which really, is more than they deserve. There are several employees that simply do not need to be there anymore. I am NOT talking about somebody who is having a bad day, or a bad week for that matter. I can let that go, as we are all human. I am talking about the constant rude behavior of certain cashiers, and other workers. The woman in the butcher department is unfriendly and always acts like she doesn't want to be bothered, so I'm afraid to ask her anything, In Osco there was a woman who worked there for years, in the evenings and overnight, who was downright mean. She had real attitude issues and never should have been allowed to get away with her behavior. There are a couple of cashiers who have been there forever, who think nothing of snapping at customers, rolling eyes, treating them like they are insignificant and stupid. I actually have complained to the manger at the time, who was a really nice man, about one cashier who was always rushing me through, to the point where I would always leave something behind. The third time she did this, I was furious. He was very nice, and understood, but I'm wondering if he ever says anything to these employees. It is the constant rude behavior, and the way they treat the customers, and how they are able to continually get away with it that just blows my mind. It's always the same people too. Last Spring, Mariano's had some issue where they had to evacuate the store, and I was actually forced to go to Jewel to pick up some lunch meat for work the next day. I couldn't believe it when one of the young bagging/cart retriever guys smiled at me. This was a guy who would pointedly ignore me when I said hello, but now he was acting like I was an old lost friend. It made me realize how many people they lost to Mariano's. Good. All in all, it made me realize how used I had gotten to bad behavior, because I cannot even fathom putting up with being treated like that as a paying customer again. The next time some cashier snaps at me, when I have 50 or 100 or more dollars of groceries in my cart, I don't care how tight on time I am, I'm leaving the store, abandoning the cart, and letting them put away the groceries. I really hesitated posting this review. But I have been a super customer, for years at this store. I have spent tons of money over the years, and have always been friendly. When you have long time workers who not only don't appreciate this, but are purposely rude, because they hate their job and feel that certain customers are an easy target to transfer their anger on, enough is enough. If they didn't have a union they would be fired. Other people wouldn't get away treating people so badly at their jobs for one minute, yet they have continued this for years. I have to say that another good thing came out of this, I discovered the Walmart in Glen Ellyn, and their price app. Walmart is super good for groceries, and the employees are mostly great. They have a great price app you can download and scan your receipt. If they find anything in the area that has a better price, they load it as credit on your phone. Can't beat that! I should have left this Jewel/Osco a long time before I did. These are long time workers who have no respect for well paying, long time regular customers. The problem is when certain employees get away with being rude, other employees do it too. There are some good people who work there though, and I'm sorry the bad employees are costing you customers. I try very hard to be kind and patient and courteous at grocery stores, especially in the checkout lines. However the last two times I have been to this Jewel the woman who checked me out was very snippy with an attitude that really made me bite my tongue from what I wanted to say back to her. On my first visit she actually said "why did you only get one coupon instead of two" (for the chicken I was purchasing)- actually challenging and questioning a customer's judgment. Today she asked if I wanted to buy stamps. I asked what kind of stamps they had- she said "postage stamps" in what felt like a condescending way. I asked what kind of postage stamps (since they make a ton of kinds in the forever stamps) and she told me she didn't know. Period. Didn't check, just looked at me. The person working in another lane clarified that they were the Statue of Liberty ones, which was exactly what I wanted to know. The person bagging our groceries put a bunch of bananas in a bag with a 2 liter of pop and then smushed the bag with bread and rolls. I will in the future avoid this particular checkout person because though she tends to say nice things as you leave, they don't match how she talks to you or treats you otherwise. I will go out of my way to go to the Villa Park or even Wheaton Jewel if this is the kind of service I will receive in the future. This is my "work" Jewel, so I'm bound to run into a familiar face or.. five. I like it, though, because they seem to have a good selection of $5 organic greens and usually my fro-yo. Their organic produce section is a bit puny but growing. I usually buy conventional produce here because the organic looks sad. The aisle near the conventional produce (parsley, zucchini) is really cramped with a pole and, now, giant displays for potatoes. gahhh. Bags aren't always in stock. You can usually find an employee stocking things, though, and they're helpful when you ask something. I don't use the deli anymore, but when I did, they were great too. Right off the bat I need to tell you that I've never been a fan of Jewel. I've never liked the lighting, the layout, the odd odors, the selection. I'm seriously annoyed by having to use a Preferred Card or buy in multiples to get a 'bargain'. Just lower the price please or don't. Those loss leaders won't get me in the door. This Jewel is undergoing a much needed face lift, so it certainly looks better than it did this time last year. I can't speak fully to the layout because things are still getting moved around. It's still annoying to me that the -- what should I call it? fancy? special? -- cheese is displayed separately from the national & store brand cheese. I hope there is not a third cheese display. (Oh wait. The deli.) What a waste of the shopper's time. I've always found the produce section lacking. It's often wet from very frequent misting which means it will mold in the fridge if I don't get it dried off first. If I need anything even slightly out of the ordinary, I'm never sure I can find it at Jewel. So do I go to Jewel first then risk having to make a second trip elsewhere? Or do I skip right over Jewel and go out of my way to where I know I can find the ingredient I need? I'm afraid I think of this Jewel as the place for mealy hothouse tomatoes, bags of potatoes, and 3 or 4 wet & browning heads of Belgian endive. However, in the last year or so I have noticed more local produce items and more produce items that were once considered exotic. I also think there has been a slight improvement in product selection in natural and organic, but there's a long way to go. I think this Jewel in particular would be well served to increase its selection of organic produce and other organic products. Jewel is adjacent to the National University of Health Sciences campus. There are four housing complexes filled with hungry, health-minded grad students within walking distance, plus additional students in nearby off-campus housing. The campus is filled with health-minded faculty and staff too. Organic is trending in the general population. The demand is right at your doorstep, Jewel. You only need to supply. Some of the other reviewers waxed poetic about the liquor selection and prices here. I recommend they look right across the street (Roosevelt) at Famous Liquors and then see if they feel the same way about Jewel. What I do like about this store is the personnel. I grew up in Lombard and have been here literally hundreds of times. However, I was compelled to write this review after a great experience last night. My brother and I made a last-minute trip to the store to buy more food and drink for my parents' Christmas party. When we were grabbing some Bailey's from the liquor section, the employee informed us that for one dollar more, we could get a gift set with some cute glasses included. He also mentioned that there was a coupon in their weekly ad that would save us a few more dollars. We were in a hurry and forgot about looking for the ad near the check-out counter, and this same employee tracked us down, found the ad, and ripped it out for us to use. I only came here for pick up something quick and I was in the area. The place was clean and they did have what I was looking for. I try to come to Jewel to benefit the Shell gas station rewards to get at least $0.05 off my gas for the car. It's bigger than my local Jewel, but I would only come here if I'm in the area. It's located off of Roosevelt Rd and Main St which gets pretty busy and I don't like fighting traffic if I don't need to. read more

Jewel really is way too expensive for its own good. This Jewel in particular is fine. It's large, has a big selection of products, and has really big fresh food and liquor sections. It's usually fairly busy in here so prepare for a wait at the checkouts, especially on weekend evenings. They converted the old self-check lanes into "express" checkout lanes but they are usually super crowded because only one of the three or four checkouts is actually open and tons of people are only in here grabbing a few items. The parking lot can also get crazy since there's other stores nearby, so prepare to park kind of far from either door if it's busy when you arrive. The location on the corner makes it ideal to stop at if you're just picking something up on the way somewhere but I definitely wouldn't make this my go-to grocery store since Jewel has just upped its prices to beyond affordable. read more
