They have decent prices and they promise, in a very professional manner, to execute on the plan but then totally fail when it comes to actually delivering the rock in a time frame that you are agreed to or that satisfies the customer's needs. They specifically told me that they would deliver the rock between 9:00 and 3:00 p.m. and give me a call 1 hour ahead of delivery instead it was dumped in my driveway, blocking access and cars from getting in and out. When approached about giving me my delivery money back or trying to push the rock aside later in the day and after acknowledging that the original plan was clear they entirely ignored it and stated that they delivered the rock and they were done. The guys rushed the job on the drip system. Initially, they didn't bury the line, left the ground unlevel, installed the valve box in the wrong location and was uneven and they filled in all my water basins for my trees. Thomas gave an excuse that the box couldn't be installed by the fence and gave a lame excuse, saying that the incoming line was 1/2 inch but was increased to 3/4 inch and they wanted to use the 3/4 inch plumbing instead so we would have 3/4 inch pressure. The reason the previous plumbing was bumped up to 3/4 inch was because that is what we had. You can't increase the size and expect increased pressure, the amount of pressure will be 1/2 inch throughout. He just didn't want to dig a couple of more feet and install a new adapter. They did fix all the other issues but I never received photos of where the lines were buried like promised. read more

We've used Pete's several times in the past and have been fairly happy, but last week, we had 2 loads of materials delivered. I met the driver and showed him the tarp where he could put both loads. He placed the mulch as far back as possible so that there would be room for the crusher fines. He said he would be right back with the 2nd load. When I went out later in the afternoon, he had dumped the gravel right in front of our garage door and not on the tarp. We were unable to get our vehicle in or out of the garage, so we ended up shoveling a huge pile of gravel over to the tarp. When we called to complain, they could not have cared less. They basically took our number and never called back. We've gotten literally tons of wood and landscaping materials from them, but unless they make this right, we're done. read more

I've been ordering firewood from Pete's for years and I have to say that the wood is of high quality and burns quite well. I had a problem with Pete's this year however. I was going to be out of town on a work trip and so took the time to schedule well over a week in advance, the delivery date and time that would work best for me. I received a confirmation and my credit card was charged. I was surprised when I received a call from my father, who had been watching my house, that the wood had already been dumped, prior to my return home.My father had just had a hip replacement and was in no shape to be moving firewood. I had scheduled for Saturday because I was able to get my friend's son to come over and help put the firewood up and I would be home by then to keep an eye on the wood until my friends son could arrive. I was still in the middle of my workshop, out of state, when I received a text from my father confirming that I had asked for the wood to be delivered on Saturday. I confirmed and he replied that the wood had just been delivered... it was Friday morning. Being out of town there wasn't much that I could do about the issue other than call Pete's firewood directly to find out what happened. I was informed that I needed to call the owner if I wanted to complain. Being out of town, I didn't feel like calling the owner right then. In fact, I was injured on the trip and didn't end up calling Pete's again I did find out during the first call that the owner had decided to reschedule all the Saturday deliveries for Friday with no explanation. With a little notice, I might have been able to make things work but given that I was out of town and was not given any notice, I was not able to make any arrangements. My father ended up piling up the firewood, which took him the better part of the day and left him limping and miserable for the next week. Since the wood was left in the driveway a day early, there was no way I could make arrangements for anyone to pile the wood up for me. Since the driveway was not a secure location the only alternative my father saw was to go ahead and take the wood to the secured part of the yard, a task that would've been accomplished by the young man that I hired for Saturday. I'm not sure if I'm going to use Pete's again for this reason. If I schedule delivery in advance, it's because I need delivery when I need it . I don't expect the owner or anyone else to decide to change the date and time with no notice. It's incredibly unprofessional and caused me and my father a lot of problems. So is their wood good? Yes, absolutely. But their customer service could sure use a lot of work. read more

I am very upset. I ordered wood from Pete's back in October (Nov 1 delivery). They were very nice and helpful on the phone. One full cord for $345.00. It was gone in a month and half! I thought it burned fast. I had old elm wood lying around, so I cut that up. However, I finally ordered another cord of mixed wood from a local person, and he brought me a full cord ($225). I was told to measure it before it came off the truck so I would not get cheated. I measured out the cord, and it was then piled in my yard. It was TWICE THE SIZE as the pile I got from Pete's. I am shocked at how much wood I didn't get from Pete's! I didn't measure Pete's, because I trusted them, so lesson learned. I can't prove it with a picture, and it was back in November--I just didn't think they would do that, but they did. The difference in the size of piles of wood was quite shocking! So, whether it was intentional or not, be sure to measure if you get a cord from Pete's. I am pretty darn angry! I do not know if they deserve one star. read more

This review is for firewood, not landscaping! Pete's has been selling firewood for quite some time. Overall they are pretty good. We bought a cord of wood (mix of pine, cedar and oak) for ~$225 (includes delivery and tax). Pretty standard for a cord in winter; but the same day delivery can't be beat! Be sure to measure your cord before they take it off the truck! They use to come back the next day if you called them after you stacked it, but now they want you to check before it's off the truck. When we restacked (pretty tightly) we lost about 10%. If we are ever in a crunch and need wood in the winter again (because we didn't plan ahead ) we will probably buy wood from them again. read more

Pete's landscaping sucks. When doing my landscaping they took down my gate and ran over an already rocked area time and again with their skip loader. When the foreman showed up for final payment I pointed out the area was messed up. He said he'd send someone over to rake it out. He never inspected the work done just wanted the check and tried to sell me more services. The latch on my gate now takes a lot of pressure to open and close so I Avoid using it. No one came over. Called the office and was made same promise. No one ever showed. Now the area is muddied. Part of that project included an Ocotillo. I've been told since February that their suppliers don't have any in stock. Since I already paid for it I have waited. I located 7 at a local nursery yesterday and requested a refund of cost to buy, have delivered and planted. All this extra cost was absorbed into my contract. They refuse to make me whole and will refund only for the plant. DO NOT use this company. I can't give this zero stars or I would. Easily the worst business practices/company we've ever contracted with. Their communication is unreliable. A contact that we signed in May, with the understanding that they would start the project mid-June, is still not even half way complete. By the end of July we were fed up so one guy comes over and throws down the laziest turf job I've ever seen. We could've done it and it would've looked better. This entire time they've blamed everything under the sun except for the fact that they just run a terrible business. I've lost count of how many times they've blamed covid. The latest we've heard was that they ordered the wrong materials and what we're wanting is a special turf with special nails and it's all back ordered. Even if that was true, the guy we signed with tried to argue with us about what we originally agreed on in the first place....after the guy came and basically threw the turf down one day. They never showed up most of the times they said they would, and would randomly show up without warning. My favorite was when my doorbell rang at 8:30 one night (it was the shady contract guy and supposedly a project manager) and they wanted to just walk around my backyard and check out the progress of the project. Many more frustrating details, but you get the idea. The most comical part was someone claiming the project was done and couldn't understand what we were complaining about....there aren't even holes for golf balls! It's a putting green. Have you ever been to a golf course where they putting green was bumpy, with nail holes, and had no holes for the actual golf balls?? Me either. *TERRIBLE BUSINESS * Run the other way. Literally everything that could be done poorly was done poorly. I was told that they would be able to do my landscaping within a month, it took 3 months. The person that helped me verged on creepy with the personal text messages he sent me. The actual work was immensely disappointing and very expensive. I had concrete poured which turned out to be uneven in its coloring and immediately showed cracks and chipping. Concrete was dripped all over my yard and existing bricks. They promised to replace the bricks and that never happened. Tools went missing and they were nice enough to believe me but replaced with used tools (although they claimed they were brand new). They hit a water pipe and there was gushing water and mud everywhere. They stopped the gushing but left the trench in my back yard and did not repair the pipe for two weeks. They promised my sprinkler system would not be affected, but it no longer works! They left the yard a mess every step of the way. I have reached out to management multiple times without response. It has been an awful experience to say the least. read more

If you're thinking of getting rocks at Pete's Landscaping; Just Say No! go somewhere else. I received a shipment of rocks of the incorrect size; on the first phone call I made, I was told, "we watched the cameras and the truck was loaded correctly." When I asked for someone to come out and look at what was delivered, I was told, "the rocks just get mixed together and that's how they come." I ordered 1 1/2" gray round and I received river rocks between 3"-4" in length. What awful service. I've requested an itemized receipt twice, and still haven't received that either. It's truly amazing how Pete's stays in business with the way they do business! We tried ordering firewood from them and what a mistake THAT was! Either they do not know how to measure a cord of wood (or fractions of it) or they just want to cheat you. Either way--it's pathetic. We could only fit 1/4 cord into the back of our truck, so that's what we went to pick up. Many parts of the West call this measurement a Rick. They kept calling it a Rack. So I clarified: "Is your Rack 1/4 cord?", and they said "Yes." So we went to pick it up and we got shorted by about 30%. We demanded they give us the 1/4 cord they promised--for their very high prices. We had to argue with the lady to do that, then she let the guys load some more on the truck. It still wasn't correct, but we were so disgusted, we left--and said, "Never coming' back here!" Here's their game: They build these "racks" for the firewood and only fill it up within its dimension--which aparently is their own (ignorant) source of measurement, and then pass that off as 1/4 cord. In a nutshell: When buying firewood, there is a Rick (1/4 cord), and now a Rack (at Pete's)-- which converts to a RIP. I ordered several cubic yards of gravel, the delivery person backup up into my yard and dumped it where I wanted (perfect thank you!). HOWEVER, underestimated and had to order more, 'we will deliver this tomorrow between 10amd and 2pm . Ok great, no problem .. the next morning at around 8:30am they arrived while I was in the shower and then dumped several tons of gravel at the foot of my driveway - blocking the entrance into my driveway!! I called and asked for a manager and asked about delivery time and she said "we told you between 9am and 1pm' - I told her that while that was also wrong, it's wasn't even 9am right now at the time of the call and they dumped this about 20 to 30 minutes earlier ... I now have a shovel (by hand) roughly 3+ tons of gravel in a wheelbarrow just to regain access to my driveway!! She went on to say that this is Pete's policy and they have to dump all ordered aggregate at the foot of people's driveway! WTH? .. I'm about to order roughly 30 tons of crusher fines!! they're going to dump that at the foot of my driveway and won't even put it in my yard? who in their right mind would pay for that!!! read more

The only really good thing was the planning and physical work in putting the rocks and plants in, Presently the sprinkler system is unusable--with spring coming. We spent about $30000 (not a large sum for California estates, but quite a bit here where we live, in addition to $300 to get the sprinkler system sort of working. Some issues. Resolved (after 3 months). Boarder not finished. Resolved, kind of. Major leak under side walk caused by equipment run-overs. Resolved. 60% of sprinkler heads wrong type, resolved by hiring outside firm Resolved. 100 % of sprinkler heads needed adjustment to keep from spraying on side walks (as per city ordinances) resolved by hiring outside firm. Resolved **. Backyard sprinklers would not turn off. Two trips because needed part were not in fixit truck. Unresolved. Backyard sprinklers will not turn off, suspect the same problem above. Since we could not get them to turn off, we now have the system water off. Resolved (we hope). Major leak due to a split pipe. Piped glued (I would have like to have "REPLACED". And by the way, the crew got here, and had to go across the street to borrow a wrench to get the glue bottle open suggesting the glue may not be in the "use by date". Communications: The Project Manager, James, never showed up at the back yard work. He was out of town, but should have appointed someone to oversee the work. The workers would not do anything that James did not approve, which led several confusing moments. James did come to the second job several times, Resolved. At the end of the backyard work, the box for controls, etc was just left, not seated properly, not covered with 24" trip hole, and not cleaned up.. After repeated call with nothing being done Petes finally corrected it during the second $20000 contract. All said and done the sprinkler system is the main issue, and the amount of time waiting to get it fixed. The physical job looks really. read more

The driver just dumps the load with the owner threatening to take us to court for not accepting the wood. The owner is rude, rude, rude. Last spring I purchased a pickup truck load of the "Soil Builder" product from Pete's. I have about a 1,200 Sq ft garden, that has produced well for years, but I like to continually add to the organic matter in the soil, given the sandy nature of New Mexico soils. I had widespread crop failure last year (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, squashes, beans) coinciding with the areas where I used the Soil Builder product. I began to suspect herbicide contamination of the Soil Builder, and spoke several times with persons answering the phone at Pete's. They told me they would have someone with knowledge of the source components of the soil builder call me back. No one ever called back. Now that the new growing season is here, I have been reading more about the problem of herbicide contamination of manures and am convinced that Pete's soil builder is the cause of my problems. I have unfortunately now learned that herbicide damage to crops can last for years. That is the reason for my writing this year, growing awareness that this problem may persist. read more

We just ordered some gravel from Pete's and from beginning to end the process was very easy. We went to their business, picked out the gravel we needed from their great selection then went inside and placed our order. The staff was very courteous and were able to deliver when we needed it. The delivery guy also did a fantastic job dumping the gravel right where we needed it. It was also super affordable. I have ordered several loads of top soil from Pete's and I have been quite satisfied. I call that day (usually), courteous salesperson (every time) that takes my order, I pay over the phone, and a couple of hours later that day, a large truck comes and dumps it where I want it in my yard. Fantastic, fast and easy. I have planted sod, seed and a garden with this soil. pH 7.5. Lots of organics in it. I would recommend them and I will reorder from Pete's. read more

I have been buying firewood from Petes for a few years now and this is the second year in a row that I have received green wood from them. Last year I thought "ok, it's a fluke and it will be ok." It burned but had to work at it all night long. This year not only did I receive green wood but some of the wood still had green leaves. At $300.00 a cord I think it should have been well seasoned.
