This is an outstanding hookah bar. The staff is friendly and accommodating. They have large indoor and outdoor seating areas. The prices are best I seen for hookah places (and I been to hookah places on every continent). Thank you guys for making my time in Greensboro a home away from home experience. This lounge was fun! It was almost completely empty when we visited, but I think that might have been because they cater to a college crowd and it was during right before the holidays. The lounge was large and dimly lit. It had no alcohol, but that was fine by me. All of their options have tobacco in them, which wasn't what I was going for. However, I'm all about trying new things! We were able to share one large hookah and sit for over an hour and enjoy. There didn't seem to be a time limit and our hookah was still going strong when we left. The attendant come around and replenishes coals very frequently, so we didn't have any lulls. Service was great and non-intrusive. It was great to be able to squirrel away to a dark corner and just chat and enjoy the hookah. I enjoyed this place! read more

Not a fan, but not the worst. My main complaint is that the hookahs were kept on the floor! With my large group we had nearly a dozen hookahs on the floor. Eek! I was so terrified of tripping over a hose or catching my flowy kimono on the coals. (I'm told this is a law although I'm only being informed word of mouth. Take that as you will.) The selection wasn't bad. The prices were average. The ciders were cheap. The hookahs are little beneath my preference for a lounge, but not too bad. The service was great despite the fact that our group was large. The place felt very uncomfortable though. It felt like an old run down neighborhood bar with some awkward benches thrown in. Maybe the other sections were better, but I didn't check them out. Oh! I almost forgot! I'm taking my two star to a one star. My actual biggest complaint? There are no doors on the women's stalls! There are two stalls and one weird half swinging door. I half considered making a quick attempt to slip in and out, but ultimately decided against it. Right as I was about to leave another girl came in. Glad I dodged that bullet. I can understand men's urinals not having a lot of privacy, but women have to expose a lot more than a guy. Edit: I have changed this to a five star due to a mutual friend's request. The text remains the same. I do not approve of censorship. Edit 2: The owner did try to reach out to me via a friend of their's who contacted another friend on vacation who contacted my boyfriend. I contacted the second person. Was told she could give my number to the owner, which I certainly did not want. Tried discussing it with that person as she was trying to persuade me to change my review. Was told I wasn't offering solutions despite trying to talk through it. And finally came to a compromise as a favor to my boyfriend for his "friend" who was then told I would have been banned from social events for a gaming community that I'm not even actually a part of of I had not changed the review. I was then blocked by the "friend" on Facebook for not understanding compassion or some such. I still can't find laws for North Carolina requiring hookahs to be on floors and question why there are photos of hookahs not on floors if that is the case. Overall, you can come off nice on the response section, but I feel like I have been bullied into this position. I would report it to Yelp, but my boyfriend asked me not to. Edit 3: I'm fairly certain the mutual friend or bar owner made accounts to harass me. So back to 1 star. read more

Been going here for nearly two years now and I love it. Its where I get away from things and just relax. I come here so much that they already know what flavor I'm getting. My preference is to go during the odd weekday or Sunday evening as it's quieter. The owner and his crew treat me right every time. I think they do karaoke as well if that's anyone else is into. Its a place that I highly recommend going either to chill or to party with friends. I'm more mellow so I do the latter. read more

Get a fruit head and ice chamber, and pick out some top notch shisha. I suggest getting a minty flavor in an orange head. It's smooth and gives you a great buzz. You won't be disappointed. Some friends talked me into trying this place out. I am not a normal hookah smoker, so I had no clue how to order. The staff are very knowledgeable of the products and can't give you really good recommendations. I really liked what I ordered. Also I felt like I was being treated like a queen because every so often someone would come around and turn over the coals for me. The cons to this place are: you have to have cash to buy alcohol and the bathroom (ladies) is uncomfortable. There is no doors on the stalls, so be prepared to make friends! read more

I used to work at a hookah bar in Raleigh... No one would wait more than 10 minutes for a hookah on a slam packed night. I went to Petra was waited on within 5 minutes of sitting down but 25 minutes passed and no hookah and no server telling us what's going on. We left and on the way out we told the owner what was going on. That we ordered almost 30 minutes ago and no hookah and I was not paying for sloppy service do he told us we could hide leave. We were not rude to anyone. We were willing to pay for what we ordered but watching other tables get their order before our own order and management did not care... beyond bad customer service. Over my last 6 years living in Greensboro, I've tried all of the hookah bars and coffee shops in the area. Most of the places start alright, but in an attempt to go mainstream, all of them have lost the culture and more importantly - quality. Petra is different. In the 3 years I've been coming here I've only watched the place get better. They keep the place nice, always clean and comfortable - it's a great place to bring friends. The quality of the hookahs, the variety of tobaccos they use, and the cool add-ons they offer makes Petra my favorite hang out. Finally the service is great, not just the managers that started the place 3+ years ago, but even the new staff they brought in - everyone is great. If you're a hookah expert, an occasional attendee, or a complete novice, Petra is the best atmosphere to sit back, have a nice Turkish coffee, and unwind! Every time I'm in Greensboro I always make sure I stop by Petra's at least once. Dara is such a sweetie! I'm always greeted with a big smile and a warm hug. I love the jasmine tea and the hookah flavors and selections are right up there with Nubia's back home. It's a mixed crowd and there is no drama at Petra's. I visited Petra for the first time with my boyfriend a few weeks ago and as my first experience, it was wonderful. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was enjoyable as well. We got some rainbow flavor (my memory fails me) with blue mist and it was the best I've ever tasted! I suggest ordering a smoothie & taking a few sips right before you take a turn on the hookah. I did happen to get sick to my stomach from downing my smoothie (though amazing it was!) too quickly and one of the girls was right behind me to make sure that I was okay. It was really touching and definitely made me like the place even further than I already had. I won't forget the kindness that she showed me that night. Planned two weeks before we actually visited, to come to this establishment. It was 4 of us. 1 drove 45 minutes, the rest of us drove about 25 minutes. We get there, spend $80. We were going to purchase other flavors so we inquired about their policy on leaving out before exiting the building. The employee asked us where we were sitting and we showed her. We couldn't get service and wanted to step outside to use online banking. We transfer funds and come back in to see they have taken up our hookahs and other people are now in the area we were sitting in. We inquired about our hookahs and was told it was a 10 minute policy. We timed ourselves while outside and came back in 8 minutes after leaving. The hostess also stated that the owner was lying and was just trying to get more money from us!!!! It's not posted anywhere that there is a 10 minute rule about going outside. We only knew this because we asked before leaving out. We sought to redeem the hooka that our friend paid for but didn't smoke. I asked to speak to the owner. He told our hostess he can give us a 5 dollar off hookah which meant we would still spend $60. The owner came over and proceeded to try to cut me off and yell. I told him that after patronizing your business you would listen to me respectfully without cutting me off. From the day, I said wow you have got to be kidding at how you run a business and treat your customers. I went on Instagram and posted about the experience just warning people of how shady this business can be. They dm'd me for conversation afterwards. You don't get to be rude to me after taking my money, then come to me apologetic because you don't want to lose business. This was not the energy you had when we were in your establishment. I personally think there are too many rules for the run-of-the-mill hookah lounge. They have a security guard who searches everyone's purse when you enter and they don't let you move the hookah. I watched the manager during my last visit yell at the security guard in front of two large groups of customers because he didn't clear the exit quickly. I can appreciate their outlook on keeping everyone safe, but they take themselves too seriously. I felt like I was treated more like a child than a valued customer.
