I completed the home assessment and did not hear back. When I reached out for an update, excited to adopt, I was talked down to and ultimately denied a kitten because I have plants and an outdoor (enclosed) patio. Unfortunately, it wasn't much of a discussion and presented as a final decision that I wouldn't be able to keep a kitten from munching on my plants or escaping out the door. I'm a responsible pet owner of many years, and I even have a spare room to keep my plants and and would have kept the kitty inside. Very disappointing. I wouldn't work with them again.

Just an FYI to those in desperate circumstances and need to place their pets in legitimate rescue. Contact any other location except this one. To the owner, you also have a bad reputation on Nextdoor and other Platforms for your feisty attitude. Try to learn compassion or change the field you are in. Then we fell in love with and adopted our Mei Mei from the Alameda County shelter. She's a blue nose pit mix. And we learned how truly feared these lovable beasts are. Mei Mei loves everyone: children, adults, little dogs, big dogs. She's been a super foster sister to numerous rescue dogs from Dusty Paws Rescue, and is a cuddle bunny and kissing alarm clock to my two young girls. So it's always startling to see the terror in the eyes of some people on meeting her. And the hotel rules at some pet-friendly hotels ("No pits or pit mixes"). Someone told me about Bad Rap, and I started following them. Their mission is to change the overwhelming misconceptions about these dogs. They do this in lots of important ways. - Offering free spay, neutering and vaccinations to pit owners who can't afford it - Running a shelter/foster program and socializing dogs so they can be cherished family members - Teaching the importance of training and responsible dog ownership, which is relevant regardless of breed - Providing free training classes - Evangelizing pittie lovableness with a great website, Facebook presence, and adorable calendars Yesterday, we attended their open house in Berkeley, "Fool in Love". We got to see their classes in action, check out the spay/neuter van, meet many amazing volunteers, and get tons of slobbery dog kisses from adoptable blockheads. Keep it up, Bad Rap. I'm with you.

A little over a week ago, I adopted a cute kitten for free at this rescue group that was one of…read moremany for maddiesadoptathon.org free adoption fair. It was for that weekend only from 6/12-6/13. The rescue groups were spread out at three different locations and this was the third location I went to. They were very nice, friendly, and helpful. All the rescue workers were easy to talk to and knew a lot about the pets up for adoption. When I first saw my new kitty who was named Snapdragon at the time, he was super hyper and all over the cage when all the other cats were sleeping. I wanted a playful kitten and he was cute and frankly, I was tired of looking. So I asked to see him and once I held him, he settled down instantly. I knew at that moment that he really liked me and I decided to adopt him. I wasn't sorry since he's cute, playful, energetic, fun, funny, and loves to cuddle with me on my lap or next to me. Since I forgot to bring a carrier, they provided me with one that also came with a free cat CD, a guide to taking care of cats, and a small bag of Iams kitten food. I love him even though he's a little devil who likes to bother my bunny Gizmo and the fact that he let's out the worst SBD farts ever! Ugh! I never knew that cats farted until I got him, lol! Hopefully a change in diet will fix that. He's been neutered and is up to date with his shots and I didn't have to pay for a thing-:) I took him to our vet the other day and he's fine!

Not sure when they'll open up again with Covid but I encourage you to check their website (tvar.org) as they frequently have very good animals that need homes. 4 years ago we got our yorkie from there. He's become the love of our lives. The adoption fee was only $35 at the time, but we also paid for the neutering and chipping at a deep discount. We're so lucky to get him. He has a small limp and is not friendly to other dogs, but he's a love bug to us!

Communication…read morewas extremely difficult--messages were often ignored, and when I did receive a response, it felt like I had to repeatedly explain the same information without it being acknowledged. When I was finally able to secure a vet appointment through her, I was told by the veterinary office that payment would be handled at the time of pickup. However, Michele later called me and spoke in a raised, confrontational tone, insisting that this was not how she operates and that I could simply pick up my cat and "forget it." The interaction felt unprofessional and unnecessarily hostile. When I did in fact pay through Venmo she gave me attitude and said how I had told her it would be through Zelle followed by the very professional response of, "whatever." I understand that volunteers may be dealing with personal challenges, and Michele mentioned that her cat was very ill. While that is truly unfortunate and deserving of empathy, it does not justify speaking to others in a disrespectful or aggressive manner--especially when they are reaching out in good faith to help care for a feral cat family. Organizations like this do important work, and clear, respectful communication is essential. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling discouraged and unsupported. I hope the organization takes steps to ensure that volunteers representing them maintain a basic level of professionalism and courtesy.

My rescue dog has had issues with dog reactivity from his time at the Shelter. The issue got worst…read morewith him becoming reactive to anything moving after his PTLO surgery and his diagnosis with early onset arthritis on his two front elbows. We went through 5 trainers and it was to the point where I was so desperate I was considering hard core old school training with choke collars etc. We lucked out when we found Kelly and Shane. Shane has worked tirelessly with us every week for a year now and none of my friends recognize my dog because of how calm and composed he is when they visit. Some even asked me if I adopted another dog with he same coloring. He has progressed so much on his reactivity to moving targets that I can now even consider when we will be able to walk in public with dogs around without him barking or lunging, something I had given up for years now.
