Over the last six months or so, the employees at PAPT have absolutely stepped up the quality of animal care 10x over. The habitats for the reptiles in store are now naturalistic and beautifully cluttered, where as most of them were in pretty empty enclosures on reptile carpet months ago. They have a BRILLIANT selection of reptile/small animal enclosures in sizes that are harder to find in person. I can tell that the employees are working very hard to take care of the animals in store. I was snarled at by more than one empoyee so I quit. Haven't been in there in many years. I go to Petco where I am always treated well.

I've never had a negative experience here. I saw the review about the "Asian guy" and I have to respond. I remember him, he was very knowledgeable about fish, friendly and helpful. I always hoped he was working when I came in so he could direct me on the correct course (he always had great advice!). I don't have fish anymore so I stopped going (I had a lot of balloon mollies, I really enjoyed that!). Recently, I've had immediate needs for my recently diagnosed diabetic cat (and 5 other cats), and find that paying a little extra to have it NOW instead of waiting for Amazon to ship (btw, their "new" updated shipping sucks, it takes way longer now and they frequently leave it in the rain). Also, I'm able to browse the store and take time to read labels (this is so necessary these days, be careful what you feed your fur babies). This is not always an option with online shopping! Anyway, I appreciate that they are a small town, family oriented, stable business that has been around for years, and they are always available to help you with your questions. I visited the store this week looking for a better dog food for my Cocker Spaniel who has itchy skin. The associate greeted me at the front door and took me right back to the exact food I needed to choose from. He spent quite a lot of time (but not too much) explaining the pros/cons of this dog food and dog food allergies in general. And, my dog loves the food! Yeah, win! win! for me and Fido. read more

What I really appreciate about pets are people too is that they actually have knowledgeable and caring staff! I have been really frustrated with nutrition options for my cat and the owner, vera, went out of her way to help me make some great decisions. I love the premium cat treats, the raw diet, and when I was younger I absolutely loved the fish section. I used to have a lot of aquariums and it was such a joy to the shop that. I always feel so special when I support this business because I know my local dollars actually matter. My cat has never been better since she started the raw diet. This is our primary pet supply store when we are located in the Palouse. They have good advice at both this location and the Pullman store, a good variety of raw dog foods and limited ingredient diets, and everything I've ever wanted for miscellaneous dog supplies. I've gotten fish at the Pullman store too, all healthy and with very long life spans, and most of my aquarium supplies are from these stores. I am a HUGE fan of the new (?) online ordering and curbside pickup - the online ordering system is really nice and intuitive, and orders have been ready within about ten minutes so far. I'm not sure whether this service started for COVID response but it sure made it an easy choice to continue shopping here while we look out for our health! read more

The staff here is awesome and very friendly!! The only place I've found live dubia roaches for our beardies, which led me to getting another beardie from them... the beardie wasn't working out due to no fault of the store nor myself and the manager (owner maybe?) was great to work with! He listened to my concerns and was proactive to get me a solution and on my way with the right beardie !! Thank yall for being so awesome and caring! You'll be seeing a lot of me! I really do not like this store. The owners Jim and Vera are just out for every dollar they can get. Due to my lack of knowledge I purchased 4 snakes from this pet store. ALL of them had mites, extremely bad. When I tried to address this with them just brushed it off as something normal & not their problem. When I was a teenager - 14? They sold me a tortoise and lied out their teeth about the care, needs, and expectations of the animal. The food they recommended was ALL WRONG, the tortoise greatly out grew the 8 inches they said she would reach (she is now 10ish lbs and as tall as some of my dogs!). They also sell puppies they claim that come from local breeders but hesitate to prove this. instead of working with the Humane Society to help homeless dogs find homes they sell even mix breed puppies for outrageous amounts of money ($300 or more for a mutt). Support a pet shop that cares about the animals they sell and the products they stock. Make the short drive to Pullman and go to Barnacle Bills! Plus always try rescue groups and the humane society before buying a puppy from unknown sources for insane prices! read more

I started shopping here because they were the only store in town where I could find my preferred pet food brand, Natural Balance. Initially I didn't care much for the shop, but in recent years they have really revamped their customer service! Their staff is now much friendlier. My only complaint is that they carry and promote a variety of tiny, half-gallon housing for Betta fish. A single Betta fish needs at least 3 gallons (or more) to themselves to stay healthy and happy. I expect those types of products in big chain stores where employee ignorance regarding fish care might be expected, but not a local pet shop with such a vast variety of fish. read more

I've been going here for over a year, never had an issue. They did my pet tags exactly as I asked and they told me about the 'buy 10 get 1 free' promotions some brands have. They have a good selection of healthy dog foods, some expensive some not. Be careful if you're buying dog/cat beds though, I pulled one out to find their cute little shop cat was fast asleep in it. read more

I just want the store owner or manager of Pets Are People Too to be aware of some problems with one of their employees. There is a young Asian man who works in the Moscow store who has been rude to me for the last time today. I was in the store a few months ago buying gravel for one of my aquariums and this Asian man kept trying to talk me out of the colors of gravel I wanted! I wasn't sure why he had an issue with the gravel color I wanted in the first place but, he seemed determined to get his way! LOL! I thought it was a bit odd at the time but decided to let it go thinking maybe he was having a bad day or something. Today, I stopped by to look at the Bettas since I recently lost my old one. I noticed there was a new lighted display case for the Bettas which wasn't there the last time I looked at them. I didn't realize there were airlines attached to the top of all the clear cups the Bettas were in so I picked up one and held it up so I could get a better idea of what color the Betta was, how long the fins were, if he looked healthy, etc. The young Asian man was working again and he walked over to me, took the Betta out of my hands and said in an extremely harsh tone, "You can't pick them up!" So, I started toward the front door to leave since I didn't see a Betta I was interested in and the other young man working ( a very nice one!) told me when they may have a new shipment of Bettas coming in since there weren't many to choose from. I turned around and said, "If you won't let me get a good look at them, I'll buy one at Petco". I wasn't rude in any way, I was just stating a fact. The nice young man just shook his head "yes" as I walked out the door! So, I'm guessing something like this has happened before to other customers. I wish I had gotten the names of these two young men but I was too shocked to even think about it! I'm sure the manager of the store knows who I'm talking about. I'm sorry to say that Pets Are People Too lost a customer today! I have been buying cat food and cat supplies, aquarium supplies, fish and fish supplies there for the four years that I have lived in Moscow. Most of the employees have been very nice but I have had my fill of this young Asian man who seems to think being rude to customers is acceptable! I don't mind shopping at Petco anyway since they have a very large selection of items, I have found the employees there to always be VERY helpful and cheerful, they have even gone out of their way for me a few times and I really believe that's what makes a good employee! I try to support the smaller, independent businesses around Moscow whenever possible but, in this instance, I have decided that Petco is much easier to work with and I don't walk out the door feeling like I just had an extremely negative experience! I will not step foot in Pets Are People Too again nor will I recommend the store to anyone. So, I am sorry, but so long Pets Are People Too! I will miss you and wish you the best of luck... P.S. Normally I like to support locally owned businesses but the prices at this store are outrageous! Everything I looked to buy (kitty litter, dog food, greenies) was at least twice the price it should have been. Save your money and buy online. Even with shipping you'll still save over buying from this store. I wasn't really impressed either by the cleanliness or organization of the store and it looks like it could really use an interior and exterior facelift. read more

This is one of the only pet stores in the Pullman/Moscow area that have a lot to offer. I know there were 2 negative reviews a year or so ago so maybe things have changed since then, but I was quite pleased with the place. Like I said, lots of products there that you can't get at Walmart or a grocery store and the prices didn't seem terribly outrageous to me, in fact I got a little kitten leash for like 4 bucks so that didn't seem too bad. I will go here again and amend my review if necessary, but so far so good! read more

Over my most recent several visits to the store, customer service seems to have improved and there are a few new people who've been hired on who are friendly and helpful. Glad to see the owner actually put in the time to make sure his workers are helpful and not rude! I hate that their stuff is high priced, but still cheaper than other stores around Moscow. They have a strange staff though, I feel slightly uncomfortable when I walk in the store so my visits are always short. This store has more selection than other Pullman pet stores but if you are looking for a new furry ( or cold blooded) friend I would think twice. I have bought a snake, rat and tarantula here and each one has been a disappointment. My snake was sick with parasites and cost me 200$ in vet bills to fix. In addition everything I was told about the care was wrong and I had to redo my whole setup. With the rat, I asked for a female and asked if they were healthy, and instead was sold a young male, with a cold. And finally, I purchased a tarantula from here, and not only did they label it as the wrong species but also gave completely false advice on the care. So take it from an experienced pet owner, if you want a happy healthy pet you are better off trying a responsible store like Barnacle Bills or even make a trip to the Lewiston Petco. If it is only supplies you are looking for Pets are People Too has a good selection but the animals are questionable in regards to care and health. Proceed at your own risk. read more

I bought my parrot friend Yoshi here a year ago. They were helpful and friendly, especially the guy who seemed to be in charge of the birds. I've had his nails clipped twice there. Now I do it myself. It's the only decent pet shop I know of in the area. Selection/price is ok, not fantastic, but it's a small business, so what can you do. read more

They have the best selection of dog food in the area. Our dog needs a premium brand so she doesn't grow too fast and hurt her joints (Great Dane), and they carry all of the top quality pet food brands. Our dog loves going in there and sniffing around the dog toy section, especially the rawhide bones and bully sticks. They also sell her favorite dog toy, squeaky tennis balls! The only down side is that the staff doesn't always know what they are doing, but they at least try to be helpful read more

I bought a hamster a year ago form the Pullman store. Although the employees are very helpful and the store has a great selection of products, I have a dud for my hamster. Problem with skin allergy and also eye infection. Would like to know if others have had any problems. read more

I'm a tropical fish keeper, so this review is based on their fish section, which I was unimpressed with. The staff seemed to have little beyond basic knowledge of fishkeeping, they don't quarantine their fish, and I saw multiple sick fish while I was there. The prices weren't terrible though and they had a decent selection of equipment, so I could recommend them in that capacity. Hopefully they're better with other kinds of pets. read more

I primarily go to Pets are People Too for fish and aquatic plant products. I'm sad to say that I'm quite unimpressed with this place. The fish are generally in poor condition, many tanks have ich, and the shared water system assures that all of the tanks could have it. They do have a large variety of products and brands, but most of it is marked up, and you would be better off buying online, including shipping. The employees are not particularly knowledgeable. One in particular gives VERY bad advice regarding plants. Come with knowledge and trust nothing they say. They are also pretty bad at identifying and labeling fish. Their betta are also in an atrocious state. I've seen better kept betta at Petco or Walmart, which is saying a lot. We bought a betta from them a few months back and are still nursing the poor guy back to health. He was covered with ammonia burns from poor water quality and general neglect. Unless they are the only place that's selling what you need, I recommend going to Barnacle Bill's in Pullman. Better livestock, better personnel, better store. read more

I have two cats, and I find most of what I need at this store (Moscow and Pullman locations). Qualifier: I do not like the idea of pet stores selling animals- but I am compartmentalizing that aspect away from my shopping experience for what I DO need and buy. Their prices on cat litter (I use the premium unscented, un-chemicalled clay kind) are comparable with the chains in Spokane. In the rare times I need Dr. Eyesley's Cat Attract- it's a negligible dollar more). I also get leashes, cat H-harnesses, toys, and other cat gear here. Overall, I am satisfied with the selection and the prices. I do buy some items on my infrequent trips to Spokane, but those are mostly specialty food items my kitties really like, and I would not expect a smallish local store to be able to stock, anyway. Overall- a very good cat store, and a nice resource for me (Spokane is a 160 mile round trip drive). read more

Some other reviewers have had problems with the staff being rude or judgemental, but I've never had that experience in the year that I've lived here and gone to Pets are People Too. The staff isn't overly friendly or outgoing, but once every time I'm in there someone asks me if I need help or if I'm looking for something. Could their customer service be improved? Yes, they should hire more friendly and outgoing people. Are they ever rude or unhelpful? Not in my experience. Their prices are competitive with Petco and other major pet stores, you don't pay more by going local. They have all of the grain free food I buy my cats and dogs at the same prices pretty much that I would be online or at another major pet store. Their facilities are clean and well layed out. We are new to the area and there doesn't seem to be many pet places around so we tired them out and not only are they slightly overpriced the owner, who rang out my purchase, was rude and insulting! I will never ever ever go back here and would never recommend it to anyone I know... we will be checking out" tail and fin" next time we need to make a purchase! read more
