This is only the third time I've taken my dog here for daycare. I looked on the dog cam and saw there was feces all over the floor. I thought maybe they were busy etc. There are quite a few dogs so I blew it off. Go back to the cams a couple hours later. All the dogs are in crates. I called to see where my dog was. They may stay open until 8 pm but apparently your pooch will be crated from 4-8pm. My dog won't be going back. read more

I have been using this place since my dog was a puppy (approximately 6 years). I was pretty happy with their service up until the last year. Unfortunately, I didnt look for a new place after my first negative experience so I'm going to leave a list of what I've seen. 1) in the most recent visit, they did not give my dog his blanket or comfort items the first night he was there. I dropped him off in the early morning, so they had plenty of time to set up. This resulted in me helplessly watching on the cameras as he paced back and forth the entire night. Second night he had his comfort items and slept wonderfully, because that's WHAT THEY'RE FOR. 2) When I picked him up this morning I could hear staff screaming at the dogs from the parking lot. Not the stern voice you have to use sometimes with dogs.... no... they were screaming 3) my dog has pretty upsetting injuries. In the past I have brought him in with his harness and they always print out a laminated collar for him to use during his time there. They didnt do this time and they left the harness on him for DAYS. when I picked him up he has severe chafing and was bleeding from several spots. They said nothing to me. This isnt even the first time he's been injured here. He had a cut so bad on his ear once that it got an infection... again at that point they said nothing. Today, in combination with previous visits this year, have brought me to the internet to urge you (whoever you are) to find somewhere else to take your dog. read more

We have been to all of the local Dog Party establishments and when it comes to a place that we go first. Its Pets Playhouse for sure. We were one of the first customers when the owner of a furniture store decided to turn this into a dog boarding place. Richard the owner is a very cool guy and was very hospitable to our dog Penny. Their rates are cheaper then all the nearby places and they have webcams setup all over the facility. Im really happy with this place and Penny really loves her visits to summer camp. If youre looking for a new place to try check them out, they also do full dog grooming. read more

This was our first and last time going to Pet's Playhouse. The groomer bragged about owning show dogs and ended up shaving our poor little miniature poodle. She was traumatized for days, but I wish I could post a photo of the inside of her ears. Someone took a razor and cut them repeatedly getting the hair out. to top it off it was 50% more than our usual groomer. This review is late in coming and I think I may have had my head in the sand a bit too long. We've taken our dogs here since 2015 and always felt this place was a big leap better than the local competition. The pandemic forced us to start working from home full-time, however, so I was rarely in Decatur and unfortunately we've had to keep our dogs at home this past year (since March 2020). We're still working from home but are now vaccinated, so we decided to dip a toe into normalcy and restart dog daycare. When I took the dogs in this morning (Apr 5, 2021), however, I find the building is locked up and completely empty, with "FOR LEASE" signs in the windows and a couple of contractor's vehicles in front. I find now that their website is gone and despite no clarifying details on their FB page it too looks dormant. I take these as signs PPP was forced to either close up shop or relocate--very sad, I must say--but if anyone can confirm or has insight into their status, please make it public! Playhouse, we will miss you all for sure and wish we'd checked in with you sooner. read more

My pup Bailey is adjusting to the boarding so well. I will say be ready for your pup to come back to you dirty (don't pay attention to them saying they will give them a bath before you pickup). Also, we saw he wasn't given his bed and his toys went to a different pup. It was the holidays that time so we were understanding, we called and they fixed it. Very attentive for the most part. So we got this dog, right? And the wife and I both work 8-12 hour shifts some days, so the dog has to go somewhere while we're busy gadding about trying to keep from starving to death. Anyway, Pets Playhouse has the best hours of any of the dog-sitting joints around Decatur (and there are seriously a half-dozen within a five mile radius, it's crazy!) so we picked them based entirely on that. Turns out, it was a pretty good decision. The owner is an awesome guy, the employees knew our dog on sight after two days, and the atmosphere is pretty mellow. I have been boarding my pup, Ginger, here for the last 3 years and can honestly say I love them. First off...they are crate free. Their outdoor area is large and clean. Their indoor rooms are big and, as funny as this might sound, inviting for dogs. :) I also love the fact that Richard (owner) and many of the people that work here remember Ginger every time she comes for a visit. Bonus...they have webcams inside and outside so you can check in and see how much fun your pup is having. :) Besides boarding...they also offer daycare, grooming and have a store (food, treats, toys, beds, etc.). I cannot say enough good things about this place. I moved here about a year ago, not knowing anyone, and no one to recommend a good doggie daycare. I needed a place to board my buddy, and I checked them out. Immediately I knew Pets Playhouse was the best place I've taking my very senior dog to in years. The staff is professional and kind, they have very clean and spacious facility. And the best part, NO CRATES! My dog rally hates crates, and here dogs can roam free safely(under a very watchful eye). And the staff knows my dog so well(he is 17 and likes to sleep on beds, and people), they hook him up in the VIP room, no questions asked, to make sure he has a comfortable stay. I've been to other places, and feel terrible about leaving my dog there. They smell, you hear dogs howling, and staff is short with you. But I have never second guessed my decision to bring him here. Plus they have great hours and rates. I sometimes work long hours, but I have no problem doing drop off/pick up with their hours. There are tons of doggie daycare facilities in Decatur, but I'd be hard pressed to find a better place to trust in the care of my dog. I have two close friends that have trusted their pups here for years so I was extremely surprised at the experience I had after taking in Katie and Bug for temperament tests. We received only one behavior analysis for two dogs and it had Bug's name on it. When I told the lady at check out that I was surprised at her poor behavior, she asked which dog was Bug (I pointed to the small brown bulldog) and she said that no, the other dog was the one who didn't get along well (that would be the large white mutt with black eyes, Katie). Pets Playhouse is awesome! My experience with them has been very positive. My dog, Flicka, always comes home exhausted, which I appreciate! She returns relatively clean and reacts positively anytime I mention 'the Playhouse.' The facility is spacious and they have cameras so you can check in online whenever is convenient. The prices are fair, especially the packages. Get the packages! They do a good job of screening the dogs and Flicka always finds dogs to play with. One of my biggest worries about moving to Atlanta was finding a dog daycare for my beloved pal, Simba, a boisterous yellow lab with lots of energy to burn. We had a great relationship with our previous daycare location, and I thought it would be a tough act to follow. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Pet's playhouse has been everything Simba and I could want and more! The biggest draw is the hours- 6am to 8pm is perfect when you work 7-7. I'll note that it is literally the only dog daycare in the city of Atlanta that offers these hours, and it's even significantly better priced than the places that have much shorter hours!!! While the location is a bit of a hike from where I live, it's totally worth it. They have plenty of space both indoors and out for the dogs to really run around. Then there's the staff. It's clear that they treat your baby like they treat their own pets. Simba loves going to daycare and gets overjoyed in the mornings when we hop in the car to go there. He often boards there when needed, and it's great to have a place for him to go where he's comfortable and gets all the attention and exercise he needs. Additionally, I have to comment on the training services they offer. Shaun did an awesome job training both dog and owner in the canine good citizen class we participated in. Although I am a bit lax from time to time, having that strong foundation has made a huge difference in simba's leash manners and overall behavior - a very big deal for a 100lb dog! We've going to Pet's for over 7 years, and the experience was pretty good overall. We even took our dog for training lessons here. Until our most recent experience, which solidified that we will never go back. When I arrived, I was told that our dog had entered into another dog's space and had received a reprimand. Which ok, it's a dog and that happens. A staff member had tacked a note about the "incident" onto our dog's stuff, but when I went to retrieve it the owner took it away. At the time I didn't think anything of it. I received my dog and walked out to the car and noticed he had poo smeared all over his bottom and hind legs. I took our dog back in to let the owner know. . .and I saw that the owner was sharing our note with another customer. When I walked in, he quickly took the note and through it in the trash. Weird. Then the customer proceeds to look at my dog and says, "is that him?" Which made me feel super uncomfortable.. . why are you sharing info about my dog with this lady and not me? Then I let the owner know that our dog has poo smeared all over his backside. The owner just looks at me-- no apologies or remorse, and calls a staff member over to give him a quick rinse. I stand there awkwardly while the other customer and owner change glances back and forth. I felt beyond uncomfortable. While the staff member is drying off our dog, the owner tells him that's good enough and hands my dog back over to me mostly wet without saying anything to me. Seriously? No apology? I couldn't believe it. I later told our neighborhood dog sitter about the event and she told me the reason he had poo on him is because he was likely locked up and sitting sit in his own feces. I felt sick to my stomach. We've been a loyal customer for years and spent thousands of dollars between daycare, boarding, training, and toys. And this is how my dog and I get treated. Least to say, there are plenty of other boarding places, and I will never go back here. read more

For DOG sake, Please take a moment to read, research, ruminate, and RUN! Chew on this... the webcams are great. They fire employees on the spot that hit/kick dogs. They have tons of coupons to try and get your business away from the other reputable long term providers. The owner works all the time and is found sitting in the easy chair in front of the tv waiting to greet you, while the employees hide in the back from his moody and irrational verbal snaps and quips. Not to mention he used to be a slick selling 'antiques' wheeler dealer and it shows when it comes time to check out and pay the bill. Yes, not the cheap up front pricing but the layered on charges you had no idea about. Back to the tone of the place. One employee 'merchandises' the canned dog food on a 90 degrees angle/display and another changes it to 45 degrees format 15 minutes later. Why? B/c they have to stay looking busy. GO PLAY WITH MY DOG!! That is why I pay you! The front desk knows not what the back of the house is doing. The notes in the computer system are incomplete and the pricing database is too. the notes reflect if something bad happens. No, my dog doesn;t like water. Why was he picked up and put into a pool and then sent home wet with the yarn that he followed another dog in the pool? You wouldnt send your kid to daycare that used coupons nor would you go back if your kid was wet at pickup and they said he went into the pool on his own when you know otherwise. Let truth prevail and let your loved one come home alive, unlike the experience someone recently had here... dont they do investigative shows on things like this? Good for you to investigate. Read ALL the reviews and note that I fully support new ventures and this place had one too many chances - but the systems, explanations, heirarchy, and vibe at the end of the day (and at the END of many many visits and stays over 6 months) just doesn't add up. They ought to have a grading/ranking system like the food inspectors so as to rank a place for meeting stringent criteria and not just by the profit on the books of the accountant owner and his non-bedside manner toward pets (they run from him), pet owners, and the people that work there. read more

Pets Playhouse is amazing. We take our pup, Frank, to Pets Playhouse 1-2 times a week for daycare so that he can have some play time while we're at work all day. All of the employees love him and you can tell they really care about the dogs. Frank loves them too. We recently did the Canine Good Citizen class with Shawn. It was awesome. Frank is deaf, so it's a bit of a challenge to get his attention and let him know when he does something wrong. Shawn was really patient with us and gave us a ton of techniques to help Frank be better behaved at home and around other dogs. Frank no longer pulls on walks, he sits when we ask him, and he jumps on people much less than he used to. I highly recommend Pets playhouse, both for daycare and for the Good Citizen class. read more

I do not usually write reviews but my wife has nagged me to do this for a week. We brought our dog to Pet Playhouse for boarding over July 4th and what a mistake it was. We usually use our vet but they were full. I picked this place because I have seen coupons everywhere and now I know why. It is a s__t hole. The place stinks and the people that work there look like they just came in from a trailer park. I had six different coupons from different magazines and newspapers and every deal was different. When I picked up the dog I was told "you can't use the coupon on a holiday". Also, I think I bothered the old guy that checked me out. He was sitting there half asleep wehn I came in and he yawned in my face. Never again! read more

This place is great! We take our dog here for daycare, training, and boarding. He doesn't require grooming, but we've used them to bath our dog too. Everyone is so nice and clearly loves the pets that come to visit. They offer daycare packages and have several webcams throughout the facility. Love this place! Murfy loves this place! My dog is big on Conga Lines (so I've been told by one of Murfy's favorite 2 legged playmates) and runs and runs and runs and has all the dogs chasing after him. Then after some minutes he just stops to get a drink of water....eeerrrrrrrrkkkkk - all the other dogs stop and wonder what the heck is going on here??? Hilarious to watch on the web cam. I think their pricing is fair and reflects the amount of care the dogs get. We take our pup here whenever we travel. The owner is always around, keeping an eye on things, and that makes me feel good about the level of care. I'm not someone who usually posts reviews, and I'm hesitant to start now, but I just feel like I should. I've taken two pets to Pet's Playhouse since moving to Decatur a few years ago, and overall I've had a very positive experience. My dogs generally seem to be excited to be there, and I love being able to see them on the cameras. However, my past few experiences have been pretty negative. First of all, they lost my dog's flea collar on two separate occasions, and wouldn't be straight up about what happened when I called. It's an $80 collar so when I wouldn't budge on them reimbursing me for it, they somehow found it, and told me I really shouldn't send him there with it on in the first place, and asked me why I didn't have backup flea protection (which my vet has never suggested). Fine- he plays with other dogs there, and it gets ripped off. We stopped sending him with it on. Then, the last few times he's stayed overnight, he's had way too much food leftover. If he isn't eating, I would understand because he's not at home. But that's something that they should mention to me. He's had weird scratches that seemed to be worth mentioning to me as well. Finally (and this is why I feel compelled to share this review) today we picked him up, and noticed he smelled a little yucky. After he laid on the bed for a few minutes, there was a big yellow spot where he'd been laying. He was covered in pee, and my boyfriend had to bathe him. It wasn't just a little...it was all over him. This makes me think his kennel had pee in it that wasn't cleaned up, and that makes me feel sick. Normally, I'd just call and talk to staff to resolve an issue like this, but after plenty of unpleasant phone calls in the past and today (called to say I'd be there right before 8:00pm and the employee was very annoyed and said it'd better be right at 8:00 because he's been there since 6:00), I'm not going to waste time with a phone call. Looking for recommendations for another boarding place in Decatur! read more

Overall a very poor experience. I boarded my two dogs for a week while I visited family out of state. We kept the video feed on continuously and ended up observing some very disturbing things. Here is a summary of my experience and the owner and his son's response (I met with them when I returned). 1. We observed a worker who was obviously VERY angry go after a dog in the yard. All the dogs scattered and the dog he was after ran out of camera view. However, the worker followed him (still very angry) and a few seconds later the dog cowered back in camera view, staying away from that worker. I don't know what he did to the dog but judging by the dogs reaction, I'm very sure he was "corrected" in some physical manner. RESPONSE: They could not find the incident on the video so they did not address it. However, another employee did tell me a worker had been bitten that week. Hmmmm ... 2. I saw a worker pick up a rather large dog as it ran through the inside of the building (going from the yard to the inside kennels) in a bear-hug manner (arms wrapped underneath the dog, dog's head by the worker's neck, legs hanging down by his thighs). Not a safe way to pick up a dog, and to make it worse, he dropped the dog and the dog fell HARD on his side on the concrete floor! RESPONSE: Justified it by saying it was a worker's dog that this happened to. 3. You won't necessarily get what you pay for - I have a young unaltered male dog so I paid premium price to board him. I was told he would have access to a special yard where he would be well supervised and would get a chance to run. Instead he was confined for his entire visit to a kennel (inside at night, outside during the day). He never was allowed in the yard. I would have boarded him at a vet's office for half the price if I wanted him kenneled 24/7. There were times when only 1 or 2 dogs were in the yard (but not my dogs). RESPONSE: Stated that because it was during the holidays, special needs dogs do not get access to the yard even though I was specifically told prior to my boarding them that "special needs dogs" had their own yard. So, I'm not sure why I paid extra ($50/day + $5 vs. $35 for non-special needs) if my dogs were only kenneled. 4. The communication at the organization is not good - I called to request that they let my dogs out in the yard. That message was never acted on. However, it was noted that I called and requested my dogs be bathed (I did not!) and so they were both given a bath for which I was charged. My young dog is terrified of being bathed so I did not want strangers to bath him. The worker who worked in the back and bathed him actually argued with me about whether or not I requested the bath (and later the same worker took a phone call from me and was EXTREMELY rude to me!). RESPONSE: Apologized for bathing the dogs and waived the bath fee. 5. My dogs look exactly alike but they are on different diets due to one having allergies. I saw them feed them by slipping their food underneath the kennel gate without even checking to see which dog was which. There is no way they knew that they were feeding the correct dog the correct diet. And, they placed the food dishes about 2' apart. My guys were okay with that but it's not a good practice to feed dogs so close together (think food aggression issues!) and I don't think you can be assured your dog will get the correct food even if there is a medical reason for the special diet. RESPONSE: They agreed dogs should not be given food that close together and stated they would talk to their workers about this practice. ** When I returned I made an appointment to talk to the owner about my concerns. I tried to make the meeting as "matter of fact" in tone even though the care of my dogs is a very emotional issue for me. I got the feeling they were more about pacifying me and covering themselves than they were about truly hearing and addressing my concerns. When they asked what they could do for me I asked that I not be charged the "special needs" fee because he was kept in a kennel the entire time and received no special care (my entire bill was about $600). They would not waive that fee nor would they refund the $5 per dog/night holiday surcharge. Instead they offered me 4 (?) nights of free boarding which I didn't bother to get in writing since I knew I would never use their services again. My summary - I read the other reviews so I know there have been some good experiences with this place; however, mine was not a good experience for many reasons and the owner did not do much to help make it better. I'm still concerned about some of the treatment of dogs I witnessed on the webcam. I can deal with the lack of service (and even the rudeness of the one employee) however, dogs being mistreated I cannot overlook. I will not be returning to Pets Playhouse on Ponce. read more

Two thumbs down! Took our dog here serveral times, and were loving the great prices, until one day we picked her up and noticed she was bleeding when we got home. The staff didn't say a word about it to us, didn't call us to let us know she had been bitten, nothing. We inspected her further to find a cut in her ear, and a cut in her side, near her ribcage. The staff apparently had put peroxide on her, thus knew she'd been bitten by another dog, but yet again, never warned us or even mentioned it when we picked her up. We called the owner, who took her to the vet and paid the bill for cleaning the wounds, which was the right thing to do, but needless to say, we have not returned and will not based on the carelessness of the employees. :( read more

Took my dog here for training and the guy kept insisting my dog had an issue of dominance..... which she didn't. Worked with another trainer and got amazing results after we finally got past the damage done. All the harsh "dominance" training had turned her off completely to the work, her barking was just a sign of being excited and stimulated, so without continuing to offer her things that she was interested in, she had lost interest completely. read more

We love Pet's Playhouse! Our dog Poppy likes going there when we can't be at home for a long day. It gives her a chance to play outside with other dogs rather than being cooped up all day. We used to take her at least weekly, because when she had puppy energy, on rainy days they get to play with other dogs in a big room and go out on a covered area from time to time. Now that she is older, she tends to want to hibernate on rainy days, so we mainly use Pets Playhouse when it is pretty out and we can't play outside with her during the day due to work. We have also boarded her there when we have to travel without her and while she is happy to see us when we return it seems like she has fun, because she is all tired out from playing at the Playhouse. It is so fun to see her playing on the video cameras! And she is in love with one of the workers, Keino. She is so happy to see him when he is working. You can tell by her wagging tail that she likes Pets Playhouse, and that makes us like it too! read more

We have taken our dog here for daycare about 4 times, and I'm impressed! We were given a thorough tour the first time, and all procedures were explained and questions were answered. Each staff member has been welcoming and talkative, and they clearly love the dogs under their care. Our kids like trying to find our dog on their webcams, and their hours are great. Our dogs get SUPER excited in the mornings when we ask them if they want to go to "PPP" and are EXHAUSTED when they come home! The staff care about you and your dogs. They even boarded our dogs for free overnight when I was in labor and only charged us for daycare!!!! Our dog has been going to Pets Playhouse for about 2 years now, and she gets excited every morning when we are getting ready for work because she knows she's going for the day. My dog was bitten badly by the manager's girlfriend's dog. Required four stitches that I found out about when I called the vet- no information from them about the vet visit. I was out of town and they didn't notify me for over 12 hours and then only when I was calling to see why I couldn't see her playing on webcam. I would not trust my dog anywhere else. I adopted my dog as a 3 year old, so he is often shy and nervous in new environments. Needless to say, I was such a worried pet parent when I dropped him off at daycare, but when I picked him up I was able to walk outside and see him playing comfortably with the other dogs. They introduce the new dogs slowly and really take the time to make sure your dog is comfortable before they go out to play in the yard. He played individually with only a few other dogs before he got put outside. I have since boarded my dog with them and I am equally as pleased.
