This is a specialty boutique pet store, in which you will find quality pet food that you will not find at big name stores. I did a bunch of research on dog food for my dog, and I have decided that all of the major brands are not for him. Most major brands use corn as a filler for the dog food, which dogs cannot digest easily, or worse, are allergic to it. Some of the other stuff I found out about most major brands are just purely disgusting. Ever look at the ingredients section and wonder what "meat by-product meal" means? It means dried and ground up meat from dogs and cats euthanized in shelters, flea collars included free of charge. I mean, WTF. The nerve that these major brand companies have to promote their pet food as good and healthy for your dog. It's beyond disgusting. Anyways, enough of my ranting. I've settled on Acana dog food, and then I will probably graduate him to Orijen dog food perhaps later this year. As far as kibble goes, they seem to be very good about putting quality ingredients in their product. It didn't surprise me that small boutique pet stores only carry these brands, and Pets Plus was one that was close by. So, I went in to buy a bag of Acana, and a young man who was a clerk there was very informative about dog food. He had also done his dog food homework to find something suitable for his dog, and lo and behold, he chose Acana. He was very knowledgeable about a bunch of other products as well, some good, some not so good. All in all, I felt like I had a very good informative discussion with this young man. This in turn made me feel really good about shopping at a store where the clerks care about pets just as much as you do. In any case, I learned a lot from him, and ever since, every time I go in, I learn something new, not necessarily from the same clerk, and I always have a very pleasant experience. This place is highly recommended if you want to get quality pet food that are not sold in big name stores, and if you want to get friendly knowledgeable service. This is our new favorite place to get our pet food and Pet supplies! Everyone is so eager to help find what is the best food for our dog/ cats. I have to say the staff there is very knowledgeable about all the brands of food they have and what are the best treats and safe toys for our breed of dog we have. I have been in the store 5 times in the past 10 days and every time the staff has been More than helpful and always welcome us when we come in then when we leave they a Ways say, can't wait to see you and your puppy next time ! Since the big box stores (Petco and PetSmart) have stopped carrying Eukanuba feline food, this store will be my new "go to". Staff friendly and great customer service. A little more pricey than big box store, but price difference is not huge. Would rather have my cats happy. read more

This place is GREAT. I only discovered it recently, and I'm so upset because it's right by my house but I'm moving next week. I wish I had found it sooner. Everyone who works here is incredibly helpful and friendly. I love my pets, and I often feel like I'm not surrounded by animal lovers at Petsmart or Petco. Great shop and Excellent service! Was looking for a trainer collar for my pup. Made a quick call and spoke with Ericka. Let her know what I was looking for and she confirmed with me what they had in stock over the phone. Showed up about 10 minutes later and made my purchase. Couldn't be happier with the service and variety of items. I will continue to use Pets Plus for all my pups items. Definitely a lot more variety when it comes to healthy options for your dogs. I would like to thank the manager, Erica, for all the help she gave me today. I needed a special pet food for my elderly dog with a bad kidney. When she determined the particular one was out of stock, she phoned about 7 other pet food stores, even the ones that weren't Pets Plus. They were all out of stock. My entire family has bought our pet supplies at this location since it's been open. Went in tonight asking if they sold Purina ProPlan (the diet recommended by my vet) and the older man at the front scoffed and said "No. This isn't a grocery store." Confused, I said that's not a grocery store dog food, where he replied by laughing at me and saying nothing. Maddy was very rude and unhelpful. Doesn't seem to care about customer service at all. She told me they had something in stock when I called and was extremely unapologetic when that wasn't the case. There are so many better options, I'm going to stop coming to this location after being a longtime customer. read more

I love supporting local businesses and understand that they can't compete on prices with bigger chains however, it's unforgivable if they provide poor customer service as well. they need to bring in their A game when it comes to customer service and train their staff better. read more

Only the best for my beloved best friend. I would give this place a two thumbs up. I was impressed with the friendly and helpful team. I walked in today with a very big problem my 55pd Goldendoode is now 8 months old and he has a mind of his own. He recently started to pull and drag me and caused me to fall a couple of days ago. Today during my lunch break I picked up my pup and took him to Pets Plus. I explained to the staff I was looking for a new collar to stop my dog from pulling. A nice young man fitted Jackson for a Gentle Leader collar. Jackson quickly adjusted to wearing the Gentle Leader and after a couple of laps in the store I decided to buy it. Now I have a double collar and the Gentle Leader keeps him safe right at my side. This product is a must have for anyone that has a dog that loves to pull. Problem solved! I am a fan of the Pets Plus stores, the service is usually quite good. Never had an issue before at this location until one day I went to pay with a 100 dollar bill. I had just gone by the ATM and was told by the cashier that their machine said it was not real. I held it up in the air and could see the markings on the bill, I told the cashier I would take my business elsewhere and left. I went to the San Juan Capistrano location and was able to pay easily with the bill. Its little things like this that can cause a potential customer to go elsewhere. read more

The staff is very helpful and really nice. I live right by here and stop in for small things for my dog and bunny from time to time. I believe in supporting local businesses and would love to buy my dogs food here but there is a limit to how much more I will pay to support a local business. I'll go 10% , 15% maybe 20% over amazon prices, but my dogs food is 40% more at pets plus than amazon, and I just can't do that. I understand they have overhead ect.. but Amazon has overhead too, and they certainly aren't loosing money, so why is pets plus so much more expensive? I came in just looking for food for my doggie and I was greeted and helped above and beyond what I even expected. I was also given so many examples which you can't really get at a Petsmart or Petco without having to buy a big bag first. They have a cute little dog bakery and always have generous samples to give. I have to say, I am normally a fan of independent and smaller chain-type stores, but my experience today was not a good one. In this economic climate, who isn't looking for a way to save money via a discount coupon, dollars off a certain level of purchase, etc. Pets Plus is not that close to me -- frankly I could walk to PetSmart. However, because of a $5 off coupon for an expensive brand of dog food I buy (Blue) I chose to go out of my way and frequent this store. If it were not for this coupon I would have gone to Petco, etc. Once there, I discovered that the large bag of the kibble was on sale for a few dollars off. When I went to purchase my item, I was told that I could not use the $5 off coupon because the food was already on sale. The coupon says can't use "with other offers," but to call a sale price (sale discounts are usually a hit to the manufacturer, not the retailer) an "offer" is a stretch. Needless to say, this created a piss-off factor on my part, and I will not be returning to this establishment. Once again, marketing people/owners fail to recognize that the purpose of coupons is to create trial, increase loyalty, etc., not to alienate the person with so many caveats that the person never wants to return. So for $5, they lost a customer, when it takes thousands to get one in the first place. Very foolish. So what's next -- can't use the coupon unless it's Groundhog Day on a Full Moon in Leap Year? That's how ridiculous it's getting. Don't bother trying to use a coupon there -- you're probably not going to be able to. Next time, I'll go to Petco, where the prices are less expensive, there's often sales, and if you have a coupon for 10% off, you CAN use it on the sale item. read more

Pets Plus is a throwback to the way local stores used to be. The customer service is second to none and these guys have so much knowledge about how to care for any animal. My daughter loves to see the small critters that they have there and the staff always allow her to hold one of them. Not to mention the fact that they have everything that we need to care for our pets (we have dogs, fish and a bunny). Thses people bend over backwards for us and we appreciate it! read more

I have four dogs and a cat. I have been going here since it opened, for food and toys. The employees are always very helpful and ready with advice if you need it. I just wish the prices were a bit lower, but they are in line with the prices at other privately owned pet stores. And the products I purchase aren't available in the corporate owned stores. I won't go anywhere else. read more

Prices are not the lowest but the neighborhood convenience and knowledgeable staff beats the big-box stores (Petsmart, Petco) hands-down. I agree with others who say get on their mailing list and they'll send you coupons every few months. I mark my calendar to be sure and go there before the coupons expire! read more
