I purchased a parakeet and then waiting a few weeks later to purchase another one to keep the first one company. When I came back in I noticed there was one for adoption and so I opted for that parakeet instead of a "new parakeet". Both times I was told that I had to have the receipt to do a return but it could also be looked up. After two weeks the parakeet I adopted just died. I called to see what to do with a deceased animal and I was told I could bring him (Burt) in to be sent to a 3rd party to be dispatched. When I came I there was an issue because I did not have a receipt and they did not do look ups. Very insensitive response - if everyone does not know the process the customer should not be penalized. read more

I called ahead to find out if I could bring my pup in for a nail trim, it was about 4pm at the time. Grooming closes at 6pm. The rep that answered the call told me I would need to be there at 5pm. I told them I get there at 5pm. At 4:54pm I'm pulling into the lot and I get a call saying they waited for me for 30 minutes and they couldn't wait any longer, they have to close. And also, if 5pm is too late for a full cut, according to Natalie, hmmm maybe PetSmart you shouldn't have that option available to book (they also have 6pm slots available), but what do I know! We will never take our pup here for grooming again. Awful practices and customer service, and what's sad is the first few times we went the service was great! Took my dog there for grooming and she was handed off to us literally with poop smeared all across her butt. Got through to someone who said she was "a little stressed" and had pooped in her kennel which has never happened at any other Petsmart when she's been groomed. Also didn't provide complete services that was paid for - we were told we would have to go back into the store for any form of refund which I can't because I'm too busy deep cleaning my dog and car now. I scheduled an appointment for grooming for my puppy. I drove from Joliet to 79th and Cicero got there. My dog had his tags around his neck for his rabies shots and they told me they couldn't take him because I didn't have the paperwork and wanted to know why I didn't have the paperwork on me. Had I been been instructed to bring the paperwork as proof and not his tags I probably would've done so. If my dog bit someone they would not want to see the paperwork they would want to see the tags around his neck. That is the dumbest policy I've ever seen in my life and I will never go there again and support any Petsmart Petco here I come! read more

This PetSmart is in a mall that has a distressing amount of vacancies, but if you need a bright-side--there's plenty of parking. If you don't want to see malls and jobs disappear, shop local! The pet store is well-kept and clean, and the adjacent & connected animal hospital is a bright and cheerful area at the front. The coolest part: on Aug 11, 2019 they had Halloween displays up already. Instant 5 stars. It doesn't stink like a barn, the animal housing was clean, and so was the human bathroom. That's significant because it's evidence of a conscientious team. These are the people you want to take care of pets. The staff was attentive, communicative, and eager to help. There were a lot of employees all over the store to cover any questions. This company is doing the right stuff to compete with online retail: Clean store, plenty of well trained and communicative staff, and a wide variety of food and other supplies. Most of the cats were napping. The two cats that seemed to be in the process of adoption by families were alert, curious, and not hiding from the grabby children. The fish were aloof so they will probably never get adopted. They get no sympathy from me with that attitude. The aquarium furniture was so cool I'd love large versions in every room of my place. Remember the pirate skeleton draped over the moving treasure chest lid? PetSmart doesn't have that. That was from the the 1970s--maybe earlier--so no points were deducted. They had a lot of lizards. There was no evidence of cannibalism, so that's good. Last but not least, I visited the birds. They were active and happy, or sound asleep. There was a pet shop off Clark street that had a bird room I'd visit regularly. I wore a yellow t-shirt and a floppy fishing hat for their benefit and they seemed to appreciate the gesture. They'd hop on my finger for short rides up and down the cage, and bite the brim and chin strap of my hat. Good times. Birds don't belong in cages. Free the birds! And shop in brick and mortar stores. Are you gonna put kids out of work and have malls close so you can save a few bucks on cat litter? read more

Horrible grooming experience. I arrived at 12:30 for our Groningen appointment. However, the groomer was half an hour late to the appointment (coming into work at 1:00). She checked my cat in and but put her in a kennel so that she could work on another pet that was a walk-in without appointment. Still my Pet smart of choice. I think that this location is not only convenient but is full of employees who actually care about pets and that is a really big thing for me. I like the fact that they do really listen to you and although I have had a bad experience in the past, that person no longer works here. Still, I enjoy coming to this location not only for convenience, but because their plethora of items is on top of it all. Very rarely do they not have an item. I was surpassed this day due to the fact that they seemed to of changed the store around to the point of me trying to figure out where everything was at. But eventually I was able to glide through and notice familiar items, and now they have signs on the items so Eukanuba is in that section and IAMS is in that section. Pets perk plus car (I use the smart phone app) really is good because I no longer have to carry little cards everywhere and its much more convenient to use. If you need to bring your pet to the Dr, this is also the place, very convenient. But I will warn you, never buy plants from their aquariums! I did and ended up with tons of unwanted and hard to get rid of snails. They clogged my motor twice. My friend went to this petsmart to get her dog a haircut and he came back with a clear rubber band tied around his leg. The staff claims they didn't see anything in the camera footage, said it could've been an accident, and blamed it on them. The rubber band was cutting the dog's blood circulation and got so bad they had to take him to the vet. Seemed like they used a clear band intentionally. I hope yall get sued read more

I've taken my Shipoo here several times for grooming. This time was the last time . Candi P. Shaved my f**** dog to look as if she never had hair. Talking about the was a little matted. Lies. I brush her frequently plus she shaved her so low she looks like indoor outdoor carpet. Even her ears. NEVER AGAIN. Nails weren't even properly cut and shaved but I paid for it extra. I took my 6lb puppy in for a haircut and bath, he ended up with 5 stitches and no clear answer as to what happened. The took my dog in their car to a vet prior to notifying me. The dog them waited over 5 hours to be seen. No phone call from vet or PetSmart. I had to make all the phone calls to find out any information regarding my pet. Awful place. I've been to this Petsmart on a numerous of occasions. It's a fairly nice store. Usually I'm here to pick up some emergency stuff for my dog or he needs a new name tag. 1.5 - 2 stars for the dog training classes. Our instructor, Trixie (possibly also stripper at a local fine establishment) likes to disappear in the middle of class, start late and cut class early. Leaving you wondering "WTF?" The class instructors will teach you commands once and then you are on your own with the dog teaching it for 20 minutes. So, I'm not exactly sure what we are paying for. I can read a book and learn what to teach my dog and how. Also, training a dog in the middle of a store is not the best environment for trying to make a dog focus on you and pay attention to your commands. Little kids run in the training area and pet your dog - with parents watching them. Um hello? This is clearly a class - get your freakin kid out of here. How rude. Not to mention people walking passed and talking to you or wanting to pet your puppy. It's just not a good environment. I wish we had known about the humane society training classes before we spent over $100 for this one. read more

I went in to get a new cat-tree to replace an older one, costing $105.14. When I returned home, I notice one of the catches for the screws in the tree was missing when almost completely putting it together. I stuffed it into my car and went to get replacement parts. It was the last one in the store and everything else was either double the price or half the price, meaning significantly smaller. When I asked if they could call me if another store had another tree in stock when they get a new one, they refused. I got $92.31 in store credit, which is a $12.83 difference from what I spent. In total, I wasted 1 hour putting faulty equipment together, 30 min of gas money and was robbed $12.83 and got nothing in return. Go pretty much anywhere else and you will get a better deal. I pray there aren't people who get screwed worse than this. read more

Pet smart is a good clean place to bring your dog or puppy in person, even through COVID and it's safe. We just bought a chocolate beagle from our friends who raise them and this place is clean and the prices are a little high but they have running sales and you can buy a coupon book for $20 which he all the essential puppy needs and discounts for your dog including a stay at the dog hotel and a free vet check up. We used the shampoo and nail clipper coupon. A haircut was included but our dog will never have long hair and we didn't need it. The staff here helped me pick out a harness that fit my dog and every me never of the staff seemed to really really appreciate the animals who came in and showed a genuine interest in the animals. I have never taken Michael Jackson to get groomed or vaccinated here, but this is the place I like to go to for his food, supplies and other goodies. After my disaster at PetCo, I came here to pick up food for him. It was easy, as I know what he likes and am usually left alone. The only factors that make it just OK is that staff are never around, the lines always are long and awkward, and many of the staff I've come across are just...rude. In high school, I wanted to get a job here and despite my love of animais, they wouldn't hire me as they felt my age kept me from being mature. Sigh. So come here if you want the PetSmart products, and know exactly what you want. If you have any questions, take yourself to the PetSmart on Canal, they are better with their hiring process and staff knowledge. read more

I was running errands but since she said she had an available appointment in the next 30 minutes I stopped what I was doing so that I could rush over to PetSmart. It's only after I get there that I get told they can't take my dog because he had a record of biting an attendant and the only way they'd take my 4 lbs dog is if I sedated him....I mentioned that my dog has a regular groomer and he's been going to her shop for two years and never once has he had a problem with her and that I was glad they waited until I rushed there to tell me they couldn't take my dog. Comment = INCOMPETENT...Iesha, the Manager and everyone else at this location. I find it hard to believe that my dog was matted since he was bushed and bathed shortly before coming in for grooming. When we rescued him, he had been living on the streets. He was ten times hairier than he is now. When we took him home, we couldn't even bathe him because of his recent neutering. He smelled horrible. We had to wait two weeks to have him groomed. When his stitches healed, we eagerly took him in to be bathed and groomed. He was groomed and given a schnauzer cut without a problem. Now it seems that instead of giving a breed specific cut at this location, you simply claim the dog is matted and just shave him/her to save time. This is just like throwing $79.00 in the toilet. I came here to get my dog groomed for the very first time and had the best experience imaginable. The lady in charge of the grooming service was super nice and helpful. Really like a professional salon experience, but with my doggy. She explained styles and options and made it easy for a noob like me to figure out what I wanted for my dog. Afterwards when I picked up my four-legged friend he smelled great and looked amazing. Seemed perfectly happy and content, so I think these people are good to the animals and really love their jobs. The two female workers were gossiping the whole time I was there out loud and laughing out loud like I don't even exist. Review for Groming Services Only: The groomers that work here are very nice and do a nice job with the grooming. However, these workers seems to do it all from answering phones, registering animals, grooming, etc. There needs to be an anchor of a receptionist/cashier that checks the animals in and out, so that the groomer can focus on grooming. My small 9 pouns dog, took 3 hours fo get a haircut (nothing fancy) bc the groomer kept walking away to check in new guests. Come on. Management needs to step it up and put a better process in place. read more

My review is on the grooming salon. I had called to make a first time appointment for my puppy to get a bath and get checked for fleas because I suspected he had them. They were very friendly and helpful over the phone and explained how they would get rid of them if it turned out he had them. The day I took my boy in, they were friendly and happy to take him from me. They told me that he'd be ready in 2-3 hours and they would call me when he's done. They only took an hour. The girl that called me told me that he didn't have fleas and asked if I still wanted them to apply the preventative medicine. I said no and went to pick him up. It took forever for the girl to get me my receipt to go pay up front. My puppy was clean but not completely dry. He was damp. Which is fine I guess. But, a couple of days later, we noticed that what we had suspected were fleas, really WERE fleas. Petsmart told me they checked and that he didn't have any!! My dog is crazy with baths and on the "report" they gave me when I picked him up said he wasn't too happy about his bath and that they suggest I take him in more often. I won't be taking him back. I have then taken him to Pet Supplies Plus and wash him on my own for $10. read more

I took my dog to the grooming salon and Yuliana was so amazing! I am usually not fond of petsmart or other places similar that do grooming but she really set the bar high . Definitely recommend taking your dogs here! Also one of the employees (Maya I believe) was super helpful with any questions I had over by the reptiles and fish department. Another bad experience at Burbank, IL Petsmart. Every time I go there it's some type of problem, mostly coupons. They give you coupons when you adopt and half the time they don't come off your bill. Today a free can of dog food and $2.00 off authority treats didn't come off. Just a heads up, you can not use a printed coupon at this location. So coupons from coupons.com you can't use. Doesn't say that in their policy. This was the last complaint I am making with this company. I have 2 other pet stores that will allow printed coupons and treat their customers with respect. read more

I used to take my dog here on a regular basis for his bath and haircut. I spent a lot on his apt. I would get the furminator bath and brush, his teeth brushed and his nails ground. One time when he was picked up We were told that he looks like an Irish wolfhound so that is what they are charging us for. Now in no way is this dog even close to the size of a wolfhound. He's smaller then the German Shepard's next door. He is actually a mutt!! I didn't pick him up so we paid it. When I went in the next time I explained before they started and said we even have his dna results and he is a mixture of 6 different breeds and none of them are a wolfhound. Of course when I went to pick him up they charged me for a wolfhound. I explained if that he wasn't even close to that size he just has a face like one. They did not care. And I mean really did not care. I said I'm not bringing him back anymore, even though I always loved your services. And the girl told me ok. Like no big deal. I literally spend $170 on grooming services and she didn't give a crap. So now I'm bringing him somewhere that is more than half the price. (They don't brush his teeth or grind his nails and no furminator bath ) See ya PetSmart. Next time you might not try to make a few extra bucks off a loyal client. I would never ever take my dog to get groomed here again! My dog has gotten groomed several times prior and after going here, we tried to take him to the one in orland on 159th and my dog was shaking and didn't want to go inside. I felt horrible because he needed a bath, but I vowed to never take him back to this petsmart again! Not only did they probably hurt my dog, but they also over charged us. I can't say I've ever used their vet or grooming services but their cashiers are usually pretty friendly. I like that I can bring my dog there. Dog had on current tags - but their policy is that paperwork is required. That would have been fine if they would have told me before I got there! They said I could go home, get it & come back, but couldn't take my dog until they had the paper. This is my only day off & I don't have time to be driving in circles. this location has always been my favorite go to. but not until my last visit when i came in in hopes to do a no receipt return on some treats that i bought 2 weeks ago that caused my dog to throw up. i kindly asked Cindy if there was any way possible to have the receipt searched up and she said yes, that she was able to look it up using my phone number. after not even 1 minute of her browsing on the computer, Cindy proceeded to tell me "you know what, i won't be able to give you a full return because i can't find the receipt, it's way too many and i don't have all day to look through them" so she offered store credit. very disappointing experience i've never had problems here, she basically stole part of my money because of her laziness and lack of customer service. not only was she was lazy but she also had an attitude like if she disliked working there.
