Warning, I took my dog to Pet Smart in Rohnert Park, for a typical grooming, and 18 hours later I was forced with the difficult decision to euthanize her. When I went to pick up my pet, the groomer immediately began to chastise me for her being "overgrown" and that she had "some matting in her paws," so she "really had to get in there" (side note I found similar previous complaints regarding this groomer after research). Although it had been a few months since her previous grooming; the way she spoke to me was awful. On the way to the car, I noticed that my pet seemed "off" and was limping. By the next morning my pet could not walk and was shaking. I took her to the emergency vet and was told that most likely some action had caused her to jolt, and a disc in her spine had slipped, causing a spinal cord injury, causing paralysis in her back legs. Our pet was perfectly fine prior to this visit. Pet Smart states that they have cameras in the grooming area in order to assure Pet parents, however they will not release or even let you view such footage, without a lengthy process. When I was able to view the footage, it was in a small office (with poor quality footage), with two managers over my shoulder. While viewing the footage I saw many incidents when the groomer appeared to be overly assertive with our animal, causing her to sit down appearing to be in pain, before she would immediately pop her back up to resume grooming. Although I have attempted to try and find some resolution with Pet Smart, they have only been willing to reimburse me for grooming, and our vet bill, as an "act of good faith." I have had an interactive dialogue with their "Pet Advocate" over the last month, explaining all of the details, as well as the lengthy documentation I have, to no avial. Essentially, it's "sorry for your loss." Please beware if you are considering taking your pet to this establishment. read more

I took my old blind half deaf poodle there for bath and haircut. I fully explained she is special needs. They call me 4 hours later and say they cannot complete the grooming because she is too stressed. Normally she loves being groomed. I pick her up and she is freaked out; she is SHAVED on some parts of her body even though I gave explicit instructions not to do a short haircut. They reschedule a second session to finish a full week later. She looks freakish with splotchy patches of hair here and there. She has been pacing and whining ever since I picked her up. She has been totally traumatized. Needless to say I'm not bringing her back! DO NOT use their grooming services; anywhere is better than here. Don't torture your dog by subjecting him/her to these people. read more

My rating is for the grooming. I always take my little Prince & Chloe here and they always look good afterwards. I feel that the groomers there really listen to you and do their best to do exactly what you ask. I also feel that they're so sweet to my little ones. The pricing is also very good and I don't ever think that they try to jip you. The only thing is that I don't think most people tip or feel that it's necessary to tip since it's a large chain operation but I always do. The groomers always communicate well with me and even afterwards fill me in on exactly how my pets did. So they get an A+ from me. read more

Setting up a new fish tank and went for all the goodies. They were not selling fish as they had a ick outbreak, which is great they aren't selling sick fish, but their tanks were green and nasty! Great selection of items, but you just have to guess what you will be paying as half of the items are not priced. Oh well I needed them so I grabbed what I needed and off I go to pay. Of the 6 items I purchased two actually had price tags and of course they ring up a few dollars more than what shelf says. I tell that to the "get the job done nothing more" cashier and she tells me to go take pictures of items to get a refund. Like what!? So good selection, but no one around to ask about anything and then they try charge more, so watch what you do buy as they ring items up. I'll stick to Petco from now on. read more

They have the items I need which was good. However customer service is poor and help on the floor is nonexistent. I took my Aussie in there for his 10th birthday b/c the treats they give out at the register makes his day. The checker begrudgingly gave him a tiny biscuit best for a mini chihuahua sized dog and said nothing. The people in line behind me were gracious and said Happy Birthday. I wished for a self checkout but my dear doggie who is usually so obedient, stubbornly sat there waiting for a real treat. Sadly, I had to drag him away. I spend a lot of money there. In the future, I'll drive to PFE in Petaluma b/c of the disappointing experience. And b/c my dog who "asks" for very little to be happy, deserves better read more

Ive been in this particular location on numerous occasions, and honestly when it comes to customer service im not terribly impressed. Granted, they have a cashier up front that greats you as you enter which is a great way to start a shopping experience. The problem starts when you get onto the sales floor and try to find a particular item. It seems like there is never anyone to ask for help except for the cashier. That's all great; however, having to walk back up, ask the cashier, then walk back to try and locate the particular item(s) that your trying to buy is inconvenient. My suggestion to PetSmart would be to always have someone available on your sales floor to assist customers. Whether it be just to have them go around and make sure everyone is finding everything they are looking for. This would make it so much more convenient for the customer and it will provide much better customer service. Unfortunately, we had purchased it several months ago from Pet Co, was never able to get it to work, and procrastinated taking it back. Pet Co in Petaluma wouldn't take it back, trade it, or even HEKP us figure out how to make it work properly. We went into Pet Smart, thinking we would have to purchase a new one. Tony went out of his was to help us figure out how to get it to work, and then helped us figure out why it barely vibrated. Fixed! There will be no training collar going into the land full today! Misty was Petes first groomer when I adopted him 3 months ago and he was not happy at first but warmed up to Misty a lot. Now three months later he is much happier and she really provides great care and service. I received a report card in the end and assists to make sure I have all applicable discounts. I so appreciate the extra care the staff provides and Mistys affection she shows her four legged clients. Petsmart I learned offers a lot of discounts and special sales. This review is for the grooming dept. - the store itself is fine. This a.m. approx. 10:00 - I was shopping in the store and heard a Dog screaming! I went to check & saw a Pittie? In the grooming dept. They had the Dog restrained with something around it's neck. The girl was trimming the nails, the Dog was choking itself, FRANTICALLY trying to break loose & screaming! Yes, some Dogs do not like their nails trimmed, but I have NEVER seen that type of reaction. So, my next thought, is she is trimming them too close & it is hurting the Dog. Did she stop or show any compassion - NO! Anyone taking their Dog to any groomers - I would not leave them alone or get a mobile groomer to come to your home, so you can see & hear what is going on. I like that this store is generally well stocked and they have deals on almost everything if one waits a bit. I come here because my cats have both turned down almost every type of canned food except for two brands they carry here (Royal Canin and Instinct). Plus, they have a lot of different types of toys and scratching posts that attract my cats away from destroying my furniture. For example, I picked up two verticle scratchers that have replaceable scratching boards at reasonable prices. I also picked up a cat tower here that has withstood the crazy rampage that inflicts my cats at midnight as they wrestle up and down it. I also can't resist the holiday themed mice. I swear my cats have more toys than most children! I also recently purchased a unique feeding dish that stimulates the hunter while also slowing my bigger of the two cats to eat less (yes, he needs to lose a pound or two). I don't really come here with the expectation for ample workers. The floor can be sort of barren of employees save the fish/cricket area. I don't use their vet services or their grooming services so I can't speak to them. I just enjoy not having to worry about them being out of stock of anything that I need. That alone is a blessing compared to some of the more local stores near me. read more

We have used this location for grooming for 2 years. This time we scheduled at 7am Monday and got a call Sunday that the groomer had quit. They rescheduled to 9 am. When I got there to pick up our dog the groomer said he tried to bite her so she could not bathe him. This has never happened. On top of his hair falling out all over my car now and still needing a bath, it is the most uneven cut ever. They gave a 50% rebate however they should have paid for me to go elsewhere which is what I need to do now. Never again!!!!! Stay away unless you want poor service and loads of excuses. read more

PetSmart grooming department I'll admit there really good at grooming but when you were running late they need to start making an exceptions even if they are short stop don't tell the person that scheduled it over the phone standing there trying to shave a dog and so she's got another appointment coming in 10-15 minutes do not book them back to back make sure you book them to where you know that there's going to be an opening if it changed about an hour hour and a half just to get it done then realize if traffic is a nightmare on that street alone make some exception I can understand if they are short-staffed due to covid-19 but they should be at least a little bit honest about it other than that I rank it one star because they do not make exceptions if you're going to book them back to back make sure you time the time you start that animal and get it done read more

Now that Marena (I never say or spell her name correctly, shame on me) in the grooming department is gone/leaving this place gets 1 star (she thought gets a 5+!). I have anxiety thinking about having to now find another groomer! My two Jack mixes have been seeing her for about 2 years. She always knows exactly what they need, especially catering to the one that has really bad allergies. While I can safely say no dog likes going to the groomer, mine were at least very comfortable with her and she always had such great things to say about them. I never felt worried about leaving them there and always knew I would pick them up looking great and that they had been taken care of. She even helped me once pick out a cone that better fit my dog than the one I got at the vet. With her gone I have no reason to go to this store. The grooming department in general seems to be a hot mess. I have had to deal with everyone from being ignored in person, being checked in 20+ minutes after my scheduled appointment times, booked appointment over the phone/check in on the appointment/yet showed up at 7am on Saturday (that I waited over a month for) to find out it wasn't even on the books (thankfully Marena fit us in anyway), to general confusion by people in person and on the phone. Should not be this difficult to make an appointment. The one time I needed my dogs groomed but could not see Marena (too booked), they did a terrible job. Used regular shampoo even though my one dog need hypoallergenic, the cut was a mess, and I have a strict policy about no bows, bandannas etc. The store itself amazingly never has anyone at the front counter for checkout. Or when there is someone it is crazy how long it takes to ring someone up. I mean this is EVERY time I have gone into the store to buy something. Never even made it to grooming. I should preface by saying I've always enjoyed he cashiers and employees there... Until the grooming. The short round cranky one in grooming started off terribly. Brought a new puppy for first grooming and was nervous to put her I someone else's hands for a few hours, and she didn't even smile or offer any warmth when I walked in. There was an assistant who was happy and sweet, and we both tried breaking ice with the fat one, but she was remarkably rude and unresponsive. Once giving my name she then said I "was over 30mins late and couldn't be admitted, but OK,maybe just this time. " Even though I confirmed many times via phone the time, because I had to leave work early to make the appointment. Turns outI brought the wrong vaccination paper, so I couldn't get the grooming. But She was just so clearly not a pleasant person and didn't show any indication of being an animal lover, that I just said I would reschedule. But I think it was a gift to have the The wrong paperwork, because from the moment I walked in I didn't want to leave my dog there, and if I had would have been uncomfortable the entire time leaving my puppy with her. I would absolutely never ever bring my puppy back there or trust that female to put her hands on my puppy. read more

This review is for the grooming department. As much as they Have been great in the past but our two favorite groomers aren't there anymore. But the worst part is our dogs eyes always run badly afterwards, won't use the cleansing conditioner on their head and ears (why Idk). The terriblel part is our dog had to be taken to VCA around 12am because we were very worried about his eye. Because once we got home we noticed he kept closing his one eye. And it was really red and bad looking. They stained his eye and showed that he had a big ulcer in it (they didn't even have to use the black light to see it. Unfortunately we think it happened at the groomers because he was fine before dropping him off. We regret we no longer will be grooming with you because of this and I don't know if we will shop there either. The grooming staff needs better training, alert the customer if the animal got injured, and take responsibility! They go through people fast I've noticed too. I took my 5 month old puppy here. I asked that they trim up the hair around his eyes a little so he can see and of course trim his nails, shave a potty track etc, just a normal puppy groom for a long haired dog (he's a cockapoo). When I picked him up they had just shaved the top of his nose. They didn't create a potty track so he can go to the bathroom without it getting stuck, nor did they trim up around his eyes. The lady gave me some paper saying that he had a bad grade report or something because he was really bad, didn't like it at all. She had nothing but bad things to say about a five month old puppy that had never been groomed before. She asked me to schedule him with someone else next time. So unprofessional, if you can't handle a puppy I understand as they are quite wiggly sometimes but at least tell me that beforehand instead of giving him some half assed cut. read more

AVOID THE GROOMING DEPARTMENT. I had an appointment scheduled and an hour before the appointment, I got a call saying they were canceling all appointments because an incident had happened in the salon and they were at the vet with an injured dog. Ok, not a big deal. I got rescheduled 3 days later for the same time. I go in for my new appointment and I'm informed that I was a no-show for my first appointment and I wouldn't be able to get my dog groomed. I corrected the groomer and explained what had happened 3 days prior and they said they would try to squeeze me in that day. I waited outside for 45 minutes with my 2 kids while they sorted it out. They eventually agreed to take my dog in and offered me a discount. Cool. I drive home, unload the kids and get a call from the groomer. She explained she couldn't give my dog his haircut because he was too stressed due to the argument we had had when I dropped him off. In addition, he allegedly nipped her when he was getting his nails cut. Finally, she attributed my dogs bad behavior to the fact that I have a baby. If you didn't have time to give my dog a haircut, just say so. Stop wasting my time. I will NEVER go back. read more

Well I felt very mistreated inside the store when my credit couldn't apply to my purchase. I was embarrassed and the guys there didn't seem to care much. I couldn't use my credit because my account had been closed. They just wanted me to pay and be gone. No discount or anything was offered to remedy this mishap. I called customer service for petsmart and a friendly woman named Amanda helped me out. I told her what happened and she fixed it right up. Thank you Amanda. I have always been a "wash your dog yourself kinda girl but my dog Hunter is now over 10, and it's getting harder and harder to get him to cooperate and to walk up the ladder and into the stalls at the do it your self places. So, to make it easier on him, and on me - I alternate. Every other bath, he goes to a groomer. They also do his nails, clean his ears and brush the heck out of him. Hunter has been seeing Whitney there for a few months, and loves the heck out of her. He gets so excited, and is apparently a very good boy (per his report card) He always comes back smelling fantastic, and for an old dog with a lot of allergiesm their fancy skin shampoo makes him almost puppylike again. Today is Easter. I woke up to my dog heading outside for a few minutes and coming back caked from tail to neck in mud. Lucky me Pet Smart Groomers were open on easter. Whitney wasn't there, but Kylene took great care of him and he is scrub a dub clean and good smelling once again. Prices are reasonable, and my other dog, loves their pawdicures (nail trim and ear cleanings) read more

I got my kitty last year in October and I've been coming here for her food and supplies ever since. I'm always greeted and all the people who work there have been very nice and helpful. Today, I got my kitty's nails trimmed and had a great experience. The front desk woman was very nice and the groomer was nice as well. They were both very sweet to my kitty and treated her well. The groomer also showed me how to trim her nails so that I knew how to do it myself for the future (I've never had her nails trimmed), and I thought that was really nice. They even let me keep her in the grooming area while I shopped and picked up more food. I'll always come back to Petsmart to get my kitty's food. read more

This particular petco super won me over recently. I've been going here for years and I've never had much complaint. During the horrible fires that ravaged sonoma county recently, this petco was fantastic. Open early to help get people supplies, important things brought up front, extremely helpful service. Store is great, grooming not so much. Took my dog here for baths every 6 weeks for 5 months, each time she came back looking good and I was told that she did great and was on her best behavior. The customer service was always iffy the staff always seem annoyed or in a rush that you are there. I tried to take my dog in today for a nail trim and was refused service because there was a note on the file saying only a specific groomer could do her nails who was not present, the reason was because she "fought too much" funny that 5 months later I am hearing about this NOW. So instead I took my dog to 49er pet and they did a great job and said she acted great. I will never bring my pets here for grooming ever again. read more

I've been taking my dog to Banfield for over 8 years and have never had any issues. I am also a travel nurse so we have been to quite a few PetSmarts. I went in there today for a few things for my dog. Unrelated to Banfield. I was shocked when I walked by the cats up for adoption and looked at the mess the area was. You could smell feces from the register. All the cats except one were guarded and withdrawn. There was no one cleaning the cages. I have never had a bad thing to say about PetSmart until today. Please clean those cages and take better care of the cats there. Maybe I just came in on an off day but the smell alone was enough to warrant this review. read more

I take my pup here all the time for baths. We usually see the same gal, but I had to make a last-minute appointment and paired up with Bella. I made the appointment online and got a call from them about 30 minutes beforehand - the spot I reserved online wasn't supposed to be there as the grooming salon had a meeting that evening. I felt so terrible, but Bella assured me it was fine and to just come on in early if I could. When we arrived, Bella was so sweet, asked how we were doing, and efficiently and quickly got papers signed and sent me on my way. I came back at 6 and not only was she done, but Bella gave my pup the WORKS! I booked a basic bath and brush with nail trimming, ear cleaning, etc at $24.99. Just because she wanted to, she gave her the top tier services, shampoo, and she even cleaned her teeth at no charge! Just because "she was a perfect girl!" With their time constraint, she didn't have to go above and beyond the way she did, but it was so sweet and SO appreciated! She got a bandana and I got a Pawgress Report (2 things I usually don't get, but do always want.) Go see Bella for a truly wonderful experience at this salon! read more

They have a large selection of food, dog clothing, leashes, and general pet necessities, but the attitudes of the cashiers leave A LOT to be desired. Almost every (with the exception of 1 or 2) encounter I've had with a cashier has been gruff, bordering on rude--they don't seem happy. We understand how much it might suck to be a cashier at Petsmart, but paying customers also have a right to expect certain customer service standards. I'm not quite sure if other people have encountered these same issues, but I'm not sure why these employee issues haven't been addressed. read more

This is my 2nd favorite pet store. This store is really clean and spacious. They have a lot of lower cost items that are good deals. For instance, I get cat pan liners here made by Exquisicat in a roll of 40 for the large sized pan for $6.99. Also they have a great under the litter box pad that is washable and soft. When you go in all you have to do is look UP. Literally. The pets are divided into sections and round yellow things. It's pretty cool actually. This is an extremely well organized pet store. Definitely a pleasant shopping experience! I love that they have horse stuff there too (look up for the horse, you'll see it!). Although I don't have a horse, it's a pretty interesting section. They have clothing there for people who ride horses. I go there for the cat stuff though. Oh also, if you are a cat owner and looking for, say Sherpa bags, or urine pads for your pet they're in the dog section, so, be sure you check the dog section as well if you're a cat owner. read more

I used to bring my old special needs dog here and it wasn't a good fit (no pushing any blame some things just aren't). I hesitantly called knowing my current dog would be nervous coming in and had sensitive skin but I noted that online. Scheduling online was super easy. Karen the groomer called to confirm his info prior. They are very organized. Karen went over our info again and listened to my concerns at drop off. The add on items can definitely..add on, but worth it bc my doggie came home not scratching and whining as he usually does from grooming. Karen is very personable and professional as well. The customer service at this location is the worst I've seen from any location I've shopped at. Employees can't be bothered to help customers find anything and give attitude when asked. The prescription dog food my family needs to buy is never in stock. I've given them multiple chances. At this point, I wouldn't even shop there for free. I'll stick with the Santa Rosa location. Horrible!!!!! I have a Westie who is 9 years old. I usually go to the Petsmart in SR but they were booked so they suggested RP. My dog went in as a Westie and came out as a COMPLETELY SHAVED RAT DOG. I did not even recognize him because they shaved every single hair off his body. It was a disgrace! He was down to pink skin only. Even all the hair off his ears and face was shaved off. NEVER in my wildest dreams would I have expected this. He is a very healthy dog but now he shakes because he is cold and hides because I think he is embarrassed. I never write negative reviews, but this can not go without saying something. I don't want someone else having this happen to their dog. One is being generous! read more

I gave two stars, because I've had good service here in the past. Today, however, that was not the case. My dog is old and has hip/leg weakness and cannot stand up for long periods. I told them this when I dropped him off for his bath appointment. About mid-appointment, they called me to tell me they couldn't give him a bath, because he couldn't stand the whole time and that it was against their policy. I read the policy, and this is not a part of it. Old dogs with hip problems need baths, too. The groomers should still be able to give a sitting dog a bath. read more

**EDIT** They seem to have hired a new round of basically friendly staff. I've been satisfied with the customer service the last few times I was there. PROS: Store price & selection are good, grooming service is affordable and decent. CONS: The in-store service is terrible and the store is not very clean. I think part of the problem is that they're hiring kids with little or no knowledge about/passion for their products, animals or basic customer service. I can deal with being helped by unknowledgable teens, as I understand that this keeps costs down. But the blatant, snotty attitudes of EVERY cashier, EVERY time is unexcusable. The cashiers greet you like you've come to ruin their day. As for the lack of cleanliness, I always see dead fish in the tanks, and the poor cats in the adoption center are not cared for very well. It stank so bad in the kennels the last time I was there, that I had to breath through my shirt and my eyes watered. Almost every litter box was dirty. I tried to politely tell the nearest employee that the litter needed to be changed and she said with a sneer, "Yeah well, there's nothing *I* can do about that". I took my 9 lb. cairn terrier mix, Katie, for a bath and nail grinding. My dog is pretty good but does not let us trim or grind her nails at home. Not only did Jacqui (the amazing groomer!) give my dog a thorough bath and perfectly grind her nails, my little dog came out smiling. Jacqui even gave Katie free ribbons for her first visit. Most important, everyone was so sweet and really seemed to care about each and every dog and "pet parent." Prices are very reasonable although somewhat confusing. However, caring service from a terrific staff more than makes up for it! I highly recommend Jacqui for the "shy/nervous" dogs. read more

We went in to get some tank mates for my planted Betta tank. NOTE: it IS possible to have a community tank with a Betta fish, as long as the fish are compatible- small, non-agressive, tropical fish, with small fins that are hard to nip at- such as neon tetras, or rasboras, what we got, and the tank is large enough to host the fish with coverage-our tank is a planted 10 gallon so they have plenty of places to hide. upon hearing that our tank had a Betta, the man helping us voided the warranty, on top of that, he had a terrible attitude and was pretty condescending- like we were stupid for having tank mates with a Betta, but I know what I'm doing (considering I'm majoring in Marine Bio)- and he gave us the smallest, weakest looking fish from the tank. I did my research for quite a long time, and know that rasboras work perfectly fine with bettas. After we acclimated and added the fish, my Betta chased them around for about an hour. He could have killed them if he really wanted to but he went on to ignore them pretty quickly. After a day, we noticed he had ich.....not a problem BEFORE we added the fish from PetSmart I had also went in to get some other pet supplies, but after his horrible attitude, we bought the fish (they were already bagged) and left, to finish shopping at petco. The rest of the people working there were kind and helpful, and were not rude like the guy who "helped" us. I wouldn't really consider getting the smallest fish without letting us chose them as "helping". The irony of the whole situation is that while our warranty was voided under the premises that the Betta would kill the rasboras, the new fish instead infected the tank with Ich. read more
