I didn't think Banfield could get any worse, but boy was I wrong. Not only did I have horrible experiences while my dog was alive, I continue to have terrible interactions with them after he has DIED. My dog had a ruptured disc in his back June/July 2020. While at a vet visit, they suggested I signed up for a wellness plan. I did-- thinking they would help my dog. They didn't. He was in a horrific amount of pain & the only humane thing to do was put him down. I was unable to get him in to be put down so I had to go to Monterey Pet Specialists. They insisted I still had to pay over $300 for the wellness plan, even though they didn't render any services because he literally died. Places like this are only in it for the money & it is truly disgusting. read more

I placed an order online. I had my kids with my so I did curbside pickup. I checked in via the app when I got there. I waited about 10 mins in my car. So I called the number on the sign and pushed 3 for the curbside pickup. It rang and rang and then it went to a recorded message. I finally just went in and told a cashier I needed to pick up an online order. It was where they keep all the online orders and no one was getting them. There was an old man waiting in a car for his order too and he was there when o got there and there when I left. I really hope he got his order. How ridiculous. Don't offer a service if you can't provide it. read more

My husband and I went in here to look at the kittens. We found one that we absolutely love, but nobody was near to open the cage to hold him. I was livid to the bone. They had a sheet outside of the section that people left their contact information and the cat that they are interested in. This is totally not fair because any cat whose name is on the list will be taken without giving anyone else a chance to buy them. As we were petting the kitten we wanted through the cage, a lady with black, missing teeth walked in calling the cats "little shits". She was also trying to pursuade us into buying a different "little shit" than the one that we were petting. I find this totally unprofessional and absurd. Items are just on shelves, no price tags. If there somehow are price tags, they are always the wrong amount, so when you ring stuff up its usually 20-30 percent nor expensive. Also, this location has 3 check stands, which is really puzzling because I've only seen up to two in use once, all other times it's one cashier and a LONG line of people. Very fun place if you're an animal lover. They have lots of fish, some dogs occasionally but the best part is the cat area. They have them in a glass room and you can request to hold any of those sweet little guys, there is animal vet/hospital connected and they are big time scammers as far as vet services but seem ready for pet emergencies in case you need. Don't think they have birds, reptiles or amphibians. read more

Excellent return policy: I purchased a name brand kibble for my new baby golden-doodle a little less than 2 weeks ago. She went to the Vet recently. Doc said that I should not feed my puppy that type of puppy food. I called Pet Smart to see if I can return the kibble. They said as long that the package is half full, that I can return it. Applaud the team work! They try their best and it shows. Every time I go in they try their best to greet everyone. I always see someone working on online orders throughout the store and they are trying to help each other as a team. If the line is long they support each other by opening a register if possible. They try to help you find something if they aren't too busy. They typically have everything in stock and if they don't they will tell you around what day it will come in. I have gone here for cats dogs and fish since 2022 and no matter the department I see the effort from the team. I hope they see this and know their effort is not for nothing. I know other reviews are upset about waiting long and for getting help but if they are short staffed then there's not much they can do. It's just like any other job when someone calls out or they are short staffed. Other people also complain about not being able to find their stuff but if they are writing a review then they can look up the item and see if it's available. I get it's one more step and that it might be easier to ask someone but how do you like being interrupted every 10 minutes to answer a question, only to not get your task done and get yelled at. Not saying that's what's happening but it can be frustrating. I haven't tried grooming or training here but I'm open to see what it's like. I shopped then made my way to the checkout, but moved to the other aisle because the one I was in was taking a mighty long time, the man then snapped at me and told me he's helping someone else with a carry out. Don't know what that means, So I get back into the other checkout I was previously in. Now it's my turn. And then silence ensued the entire duration of the transaction. I had a 20 pound Box of cat litter and 4 cans of food and 3 other small items and was not offered a bag and when I asked to buy a bag.. she said it was free like I should have known, and then I had to ask her may I have a free bag then. She then gave it to me, watched me try to grab the items I paid for and made me reach awkwardly around the checkout stand to grab my 20 pound Box of cat litter and saw I was struggling and just stared at me as if I was an inconvenience. The absolute worst groomers ever! I took my Frenchie there which weights about 20lb. They charged me $72 for a less than 10 minute wash. Asked for hair cut service on his cow lock which went untouched and he was still wet when I got him. Total rip off and will never ever, ever use again! Should have read the reviews first. Went into PetSmart in Sand City today for a specific item which we could not find on our own. So we walked around the store three times looking for a staff person who could assist us. The ONLY person on the floor was the cash register person and she had a long line waiting to be checked out. She had no help and never called for back up.. So we found the office where a man was sitting flirting with a young girl. I assume he was the manager but he and the young lady acted like I was a horrible intrusion to their trist. I explained I needed help finding something and that no one was on the floor. He said he would call someone.. So we waited a good five minutes before I heard him over the loud speaker calling for assistance. Finally, a staff person emerged from the depths of somewhere to help us, only to find out they don't even carry what we needed. I did find a cat perch that was on sale for $15.99, only it rang up as almost $50.00. The clerk wouldn't even have the price checked on the shelf. She was belligerent, stating there was nothing she could do. The Sand City PetSmart has been slowly going down hill for a while. Today was the worst. No one on the floor at all to assist customers, half the shelves were empty, it actually looked like they might be going out of business it was so bare. The staff we managed to find treated us like we were interrupting their day. Sorry but I won't shop here again. read more

Terrible store service. Ordered online 3 hours before closing. They Never sent an email or text saying the order was ready. Called the store and a lady named Kim very rudely answered and told me she didn't know if they had the item I ordered. I told her I was at the store for curbside. After a while she said they had it and I could go and pick it up myself inside the store. When I came in not even looking at me the lady left the mat I purchase against a register for me to pick up. Terrible. You are encouraged to book grooming online but when you arrive, your groomer is not trained to brush out tangles so you must reschedule. Don't depend on this service. While some of the groomers have been ok in the past, there is no way to know if your appointment will be honored because a number of them are not trained. Never again. Save yourself the hassle. I wish half stars were possible, this store overall deserves 2.5 stars. We have 4 German Shepherd dogs, and usually need quite a lot of food, additives and general supplies. The store. Not too much different than any other big box chain let store. A slightly larger toy and collar section, with a larger then usual fish and reptile area. A quite large snack/treat selection for cats and dogs. Average prices overall. No issues there. The staff. This is where it all falls down. Some of the staff are reasonably friendly, but completely lacking in any basic knowledge about what they stock. Need a high fiber additive for your dog? Better Google it, because they don't know. Want a particular flavor of canned food? Hunt it down yourself, they don't know. Want a leash with a double handle? They are happy to point you to the leash aisle so you can go find it, if they even have it, because they don't know. The rest of the staff was either downright hostile, or just ignored us. Hostile? Yes. I let go of my dogs lead, after putting him in a down stay, to get my wallet to pay. The clerk basically went off on me that I had to have control at all times. Ok, safety, sure. But... He was unmoving, and I needed both hands to pry my Velcro pocket open and get my wallet. She made such a fuss, raising her voice and all, I said forget it and left. Just an example, not the first time for such a thing, not the only staff to do so. So, I won't go back. I live in Marina, and go to the Mall instead of the closer Sand City. I went in to buy plant fertilizer tabs and a snail or two, only to find that the snails there where there to be dead. Not just one or two, but masses of dead snails. The fish didn't look lively either. There must be something very wrong with the water quality. Or do they think snails don't need to eat? I have heard associates say the bettafish only need to eat once a week, which explains the poor fish in the store, they look so drab. read more

My dog's pretty cool. He never gets angry, always has a wide smile on his face, and is always willing to offer a paw of friendship. If you meet him for the first time, he'll try and love you to death. He likes going places with me in my truck with his long, black nose poking out the window feeling the air rush by. I use to take him to PetCo in the Del Monte Shopping Center in Monterey for grooming. I'm not a fan of complaining to management... if you were sorry, you shouldn't have done it. The puppy had a case of "tuna butt" (google had to explain why). I had been getting him groomed at PetCo, supposedly doing the anal glad expressing thing. nope. So, PetCo is out and I'm on to PetSmart. It's not a difficult thing to do... trim (with the grinder) nails, squeeze butt glands, and give him a bath. Failed, failed, and it seems drying is not part of the bathing experience. ...but giving him a hooker cologne shower is? Also, who the hell puts bandanas on their dog? Anyway, I am now home on the couch and smelling the "tuna butt" again. Seems I will be trying out "real" groomers tomorrow and for the rest of my time here. We come here primarily for the groomers, and have gotten used to buying our supplies here. While the rewards program appears to be mostly worthless, we do find that the Groomers are good. We're happy with the service we get, although it's a toss up if they're going to do the hard sell for 'extras' It would be AWESOME if they had a Banfield Pet Hospital here also (like other PetSmart's) but oh well... read more

The staff at this place was pretty awesome. Three different clerks offered to help me. Maybe I looked that lost and clueless, HA! But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say that it was because they are really dedicated Petsmart employees ;) I was in and out in a breeze and with the help I got I was able to find what I was looking for. Absolutely horrible customer service. The staff is extremely inattentive and cared more about talking with each other than to answer any questions I had. My boyfriend and I came in on Saturday afternoon and found a kitten we fell in love with, luckily the adoption representative was supposed to be there from 2-5, so we waited around until about 3:30. We filled out an application, wrote our names on the adoption inquiry list and then left awaiting a phone call. We were the first on the list wanting to adopt the kitten, shortly later another couple came and found interest in the kitten. They also wrote their name below ours later. It is pretty common sense that it is first come first serve. However, we noticed that the couple knew all the employees by name and talked to them in a friendly manner. So I instantly thought, okay she's probably an employee. Since the adoption representatives failed to show up (no big deal) we came on Sunday to check on our kitty. We had already bought her a bed, toys and everything a kitty would want. However when we showed up she was gone and the employees acted like clueless idiots. Later that day we got a call saying that the MANAGER of Petsmart had decided to adopt the kitten we applied for and took it home last night. Talk about unprofessional right? While we were the first to have interest, fill out the application and wait around for the kitten throughout the day, the manager (the couple who had interested shortly after us) just used her power to take her home. I would give this store 0 stars if it allowed me. Especially shocked by the couple who took home the kitten we were planning to adopt. First come first serve apparently means nothing to a manager, who thinks she can bend the rules for her own benefit. She obviously felt entitled to have kitten due to her position in the store. However she was clearly second in line to adopt. I will post her name as soon as I'm aware of it. Do not go to this location if you expect to be treated with fairness. 2 star because I could not stop cry laughing at my dog after his grooming. In the 11 years of his life that was the worst grooming ever. It was so funny that I'm not upset but feel this needs to be known. I unfortunately was not able to see my regular girl Nicole because she is no longer there. Typical big-box pet supply store, but with a better selection and prices than PetCo in my opinion. I go here for the basics, but hit up smaller independent pet stores for higher quality food and treats etc. This particular Petsmart always seems to be understaffed, especially at the registers which can be a little annoying at times. I'd heard bad things about the grooming department here, but as my puppy just needed a simple bath and nail trim recently, and they have a puppy special that makes it dirt cheap, I decided to give it a try. I called and made an appointment the day before, but when arrived at my appointment time they seemed a bit overwhelmed. Dogs were waiting to leave, waiting to come in, and while the guy at the counter was trying to check me in, he was answering the phone at the same time, and everything seemed a bit chaotic. There were huge tumbleweeds of fur rolling around everywhere - I didn't have super high expectations, but I would have thought it'd been a little cleaner. I also noticed that while they had told me over the phone to bring in proof of vaccinations, nobody asked me for it when I showed up..... They told me it'd take about 1.5 hrs and would call me when he was ready, and whooshed him off to the back room. Their time estimate was fairly accurate, and when I came back, I found a clean and calm puppy. I wish they had trimmed his claws a bit shorter than they did, but I guess it's better to be safer than sorry. I did notice they failed to give me a bow or bandanna as promised in the package I was paying for, but that was no biggie as I didn't want it anyway. Overall I'd have to say Petsmart grooming is cheap and convenient for the basics, but I don't think I'd trust them for anything fancy. read more

This review is for KAT at grooming... She's been grooming my dog, Maltese, for awhile now. My dog hates getting her nails done. She's bitten all the groomers that she's ever seen. With great patience, Kat gained her trust and my dog will not mind whatever Kat does to her. Not only that, Kat is excellent with haircut. My dog always looks like she popped out from a dog calendar everytime she sees Kat. I've recently relocated and I've tried different groomers a few times. But no one is even close to Kat. With Kat, not only was it cheaper than private groomers ($45 at Petsmart but $65 all other places), it's way better than taking your dog to some fancy grooming place. read more

I bought an Algae eater from this location. What they didn't tell me is that the fish is actually a Chinese Algae Eater, which tend to be aggressive towards other fish. They failed to tell me this information, so after 2 weeks, I have one fish left in my tank. So after 30 bucks down the drain (figuratively and literally), I've learned my lesson. read more

I've been to this store a few times and the service varies a lot. If you're a fish enthusiast as I've become, you'll get more help from other fish loving customers more than staff. I've seen other customers leave after standing in the department 10-15 minutes, looking around for help. I've personally asked about various species of fish that petsmart carries and stumped them every time with simple requests. I even asked staff questions that are answered in their brochures, some of the staff couldn't answer when the brochures had it. I also tried looking at their inventories online, be wary about their "deals"! Site has a huge ad for free shipping on everything over and $10 off anything over $60 purchase (6-1-14 expires) and it's a lie! Terms and conditions further tell youonly for items marked with tiny red print can* receive this, it can only be used for that item (so not your entire purchase), cannot be used with any other specials (i.e. You can't get $10 off and free shipping), and is subject* to change at any time petsmart feels like it. read more

I absolutely love the selection of dog bowls that PetSmart has. The bowls are so cute, but just the fact that they have this big of a variety is great. I like that they have the stainless steel bowls sold separately from the dog bowl stands, and they're deep. I always have a problem finding those type of bowls so I'm glad they have it. I personally wouldn't purchase plastic bowls cuz it's bad for pets, but the designs are really cute. The prices are cheaper too, than PetCo. I also like that store is big and has just a lot more that some pet stores. The employees are pretty okay too. read more

This location is great. A couple of months ago we adopted two dogs. A terrier mix and poodle. We were a bit confused on what to do since we were 1st time dog owners. Ashley dog trainer was very helpful and suggested we purchase the puppy packet for 20$. It has lots of discounted coupons for many things we needed for our pups. It even comes with a free consultation at the Banfield Vet Hospital next door. We also signed up for puppy classes and WE and the pups have learned a lot of basic commands that are very useful. Many sales go on during the week as well! Customer service is awesome. Everyone is so nice here! read more

I have been bringing my boxers here for years and they love it! I especially love Nicole! She has been their groomer for years & she takes great pride in her work. I would recommend this Petsmart grooming salon for sure. The staff has ALWAYS been friendly & helpful so I'm not sure why there are negative Yelps about them??
