08/16/25 Grooming dept.: we called to inquire if appt is needed to have our dog nails trimmed. Per staff, walk-in only. We walked in and signed in manually at the counter. After 2 hrs. of waiting, we decided to leave. Since i wrote down my number, i was expecting a call to atleast ask if we are still around. No call came. Staff lacks in customer service for "new customers". It was a Saturday and i know they might be busy, but kindly tell the customers that they cannot do walk-ins due to prioritizing customers who has made the whole enchilada grooming and only when they are done with them will be the only time they can assist on walk-in nail cutting. Bad first time experience since we are a regular customer of the store. We decided to "give it a try" and maybe if they did good, we will take our other 4 dogs to them. We were sitting by the door bench and all of the staff at one point, passed us and none acknowledged our presence or at least ask, what we are there for. This store has some really helpful, kind staff working the floor, registers and training. If anything, the customers who do not understand or care about their dogs behavior create the issues. Tons of people carelessly letting their dogs run up other dogs/people, and just ignoring their poor pups when they are clearly stressed and uncomfortable. The silly reviews about aquatics are really depressing, who purchases fish and doesn't quarantine them properly? Every single chain aquatic store orders stock (they come from somewhere else!), blaming the store for carelessly not quarantining and treating a new animal is on the buyer. No one is going to know if a bag of food is bad until it is opened, and common sense would tell us that is on the manufacturer. My cat came home from the groomers looking busted. I was never told at any point that they only did a "waterless bath" and found out later when I called because she's still nasty. I would disagree that it's "just as great as a regular bath." She's had plenty of real baths before and has come home clean and fresh and not covered in her own cut hair. The groomers were nice, and I suspect it's probably corporate policy, but if I had known I would have taken her somewhere else. Waste of my time and money. read more

I made appointments for both dogs. I called ahead to ask if it was OK to be 15mins late. I asked if I needed to reschedule, as our movers were running late. I was told it was fine, & to still bring them both. I apologized profusely when I arrived, & asked again if I needed to reschedule if there wasn't time. I was told again that it wasn't a problem. I was then asked for rabies vaccination proof. 1 dog is a rescue from Texas & had her normal vet ppwk, the other is a rescue dog from overseas. They accepted the Texas vet ppwk, but she refused my ppwk for my overseas dog that has been cleared by the Center for Disease Control. The official document I showed is titled "CDC Rabies Vaccination Record." However, because they labeled the vaccine "Defensor 3" with lot # (a CDC recommended rabies vaccine, source: https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/00040802.htm), instead of calling it plain ole "rabies" (because that's real specific)- she was refused. I'm not sure how a groomer is a higher authority on vaccinations in comparison to the CDC. & let me be clear- the groomer was not kind about it, & the snark was real. I reluctantly went ahead & left my 1 dog for grooming, only to get a call an hour later to "make sure I was on my way to pick her up." I walked into the grooming area & the groomer was crying (theatrically unnecessary). She had 1/2 shaved my dog & had cut into one of her nipples with the clippers. They said "she's bleeding, so let us know if you want to take her to the vet & we can cover it." The manager was awful as well. It would have been fine, but NO ONE apologized... not even the incompetent groomer. The manager said no one else was available to finish the job. So I was left with a 1/2 shaven dog, bleeding from her nipple. DO NOT recommend Kasey the groomer or management - negative 10/10. read more

I dropped my dog off at 7:00am for a service on May 18, 2022. I got a call at 10:21 to pick her up, got there around 11:10. My 13 year old daughter and myself went in and they were working on another dog. The staff were stating the name was Strawberry. One member was holding the dog, another had nail clippers, and the dog continued to "snap" at the woman holding the clippers. I said to myself "i don't know how they're going to give him a hair cut when he's like that", and then quickly realized that he was already shaved. The girl started moving the clippers back and fourth to and from him, takes out her phone, and does it yet again, while recording it. Staff all start laughing and they then put the dog back on the leash. I could not believe what I just saw. I ended up paying, and called corporate to file a complaint about what my daughter and I saw. I then received a call back later on that afternoon from some manager, I couldn't fully get her name. Anyways, after her stating she spoke with the staff, and she was told the staff explained to "Strawberrys" owner they would not be able to get her nails because of the difficulty they have with her. The "owner" did not believe them so they asked the staff to record the dogs response. MAKE THAT MAKE SENSE! That is extremely inappropriate. If you take pride in your work, and the services you provide animals, antagonizing a dog WOULD NOT be acceptable. If a dog does not allow staff to trim nails, you then refer the customer to a VET! Secondly, as the manager stated, "Strawberry is known here and this is not the first time we've worked with her", then why are you all of a sudden having issues with the nail trimming? Why are you trying to prove anything through the staffs recording. The manager also said she saw the video footage and saw that staff were laughing and she spoke with them stating that wasn't appropriate while a customer was in there. The problem is, NONE OF THAT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED! I also told the manager what they did is wrong. Unfortunately we couldn't complete the phone call because I had an emergency come up and had to hang up the phone. She called me right back, but did not leave a voicemail. I called that number back, and apparently it was the wrong number. I absolutely cannot believe the response from the manager and I really hope whomever "Strawyberrys" owner is, sees this. read more

We bought our first two parakeets at this PetSmart and a couple more later. Well, we added a few more from PetCo and almost a year later, we have about 20 or so budgies chirping all the time. Yeah, we will never have to buy additional parakeets from them, but they do have a great selection of seeds, toys, and nesting boxes available. I'd rate them higher if they had more people helping in the store. The lines are pretty long when you check out, probably because there's only one cashier open. Also, have had experiences where I asked for help (after getting selecting a bird) only to wait on someone to assist for approximately 15 minutes. I can't get too upset though, supply and demand... I'm sure if they hired more help, they would have lulls during the day where not all employees are gainfully employed. I'll visit them again, gotta keep my birds fed. read more

I took my 5 year old, female, golden retriever in for a bath to the Petsmart in Woodbridge, VA. The second I walked in the door, I could tell this was going to be a terrible experience. Right off the bat, the manager had a huge attitude. Without even looking at my dog she told me they probably wouldn't have time to bathe her as she would probably have mats and she would need to be assigned to a groomer. She said that If she had any mats at all, I would have to pay $20 extra to have them brushed out All this without even looking at her. I said that was fine, if she did have mats I would pay the extra $20. I also told them that she was very, very afraid of the dryers and she would need to be air dried. She gets groomed at the Petsmart in Alexandria once a month and this has never, ever been a problem. After 4 hours had passed with no phone call, I called to see if she was done. The manager starts going off on me about how extremely aggressive my dog is when being dried with the hand blow drier. I had explained to them when I dropped her off that they should NOT use the hand dryers as she is TERRIFIED of them. They did it anyway and then got mad when she got upset. Also, they butchered the backs of her legs, shaving away random bits of hair down to the skin. It seriously looks like she was attacked by a kindergartener with pinking shears. I have never seen anything like it. I paid the bill that was sent electronically to me for $51. Two hours later the manager calls me to tell me off for not paying the extra $20 for the de-matting (which is a joke as there was zero attempt to brush the mats out, they just took three seconds to shave her legs down to the skin in random places). I explained to her that I paid the bill that was sent to me. She then told me she was making a note in my file not to serve us again until I paid the $20. No problem, I won't be going back there EVER!!!!! read more

I always visit the Stafford PetsMart because every time I come to this location it's always just an unpleasant experience. I'll make sure to never make this mistake again. I shouldn't have to drive an additional 30 minutes just to have friendly customer service. I booked a bath and teeth brush for my dog at 12:30 today (11/27) and the girl who checked me in quoted me at 4-5 hours later. She didn't give an explanation and just took my dog and walked off. We were standing there a little confused and another team member explained why she told me later. I wish the girl who checked me in originally would have just taken the time to tell me that. When we picked her up, I noticed that she still had food on her face. The entire reason for me bringing her there is because about a week ago she got into some pumpkin and got it all over her face and it was very hard for me to clean it. I thought bringing her to PetSmart would help. When I picked her up she still had food on her face. When I pointed it out to the bather, he was very apologetic and I told him it was no problem at all. He was very friendly. The problem that I had though was the girl that helped him kept telling me and my mom that the food got on her face after the bath. And I'm like no it didn't because this on her face was the reason I booked the appointment in the first place. So then she continues to say well if she ate pumpkin she pooped in her cage after the bath and ate it. 1st of all. In the 4 years of my dog's life she has NEVER eaten her own poop. She doesn't even like the smell of poop and will literally run away after pooping. Furthermore, she has never pooped in her cage for this very same reason. She will literally hold her poop until she's let out before she would poop in her cage. Standing there, my mom even said, "This sound very unlike her to eat her poop" and the girl continued to say well that's why she has food on her face because she ate her poop. So wouldn't it be poop on her face and not food? That same exact food on her face was the entire reason I booked the appointment so why would she continue to say this? A simple apology would have sufficed, which the bather did give and I was fine with, but the girl that helped kept going on and on and on about stuff my dog does not do and justifying why her face was still dirty after the bath as if I didn't realize the food on her face before I brought her in. Every single time I come to this location the employees are super argumentative and I really hesitated coming here to begin with. Next time I will just brace the traffic and the 30 minute drive just to be treated nicely. Sheesh! read more

Pros: Awesome training for dogs and great inventory and prices. Cons: Given that the grooming department is probably one of the main forms of customer retention and inventory I'm surprised the quality is as bad as it is. I have taken my pup here once or twice a month since December and every time I take her I always feel like something is missing. Instance 1: I took her for a wash,cut and nail trim and her nails were sharp the next day I was told that nail grinding to smooth the nail after a trim was a extra charge so I brought her back only for her to have sharp nails again in two days. Instance 2: I took her in for a wash, nail trim and teeth cleaning and she came home with a patch of fur missing. When I came to pick her up nobody said anything about it, I found the patch after bringing her home. Overall: Great Place but horrible groomer services, nice groomers as people but I can't trust them to give me what I pay for or even tell me if something happens to my pup during her grooming. Find a different place for grooming and try not to forget the pet store since their price on products and training is great. read more

Went in to the Woodbridge VA store to purchase a bag of dog food. I forgot my mask, but heard on the store PA System, that they were offering masks. Just need to ask. As I approached the check out I asked the clerk for a mask. After a frantic search under all the registers, none were found. The clerk checked with all three managers in the back and they said to the clerk, that they WERE NOT giving out masks. Funny how the store PA System says ask and they of course don't have any. Being at the 'at risk' category and the fact that COvid is peaking again they should either GIVE OUT masks or take the annoucement OFF the PA System. Shinning example of attention to detail, NOT. My cat needs his nails trimmed and caps put on his back nails. He is also due for his vaccines so I planned out to get his nails done prior to his vaccine appointment. (Why make two trips when one will do?) I call ahead because I have had issues with getting his nails taken care of in the past at Petsmart. I am transferred from the call center to the grooming salon. I advise it's for a cat getting his shots and attempt to make an appointment for Sunday prior to his shots. I'm put on hold for several minutes while the gal speaks with an associate (I believe a cat groomer). She comes back on the line and says nails are walk in. So I bring my cat in only to be told they can't schedule cats for the weekends. Why wasn't I told that when I called? I was also told after his vaccine, I had to wait two weeks to get his nails trimmed and capped. Today, I'm told it's only two days. Also, why is the customer and more importantly my cat the one who suffers for the misinformation?!?! He needs his back nails trimmed and capped so he doesn't continue scratching his skin raw. Benadryl normally does the trick but having his nails capped is preventative not reactive. Had I been advised when I called they couldn't do it over the weekend, I would've gotten him in last week or gone to another clinic. Now I have to wait at least two weeks due to upcoming work events... Oh and to add to it, the sign directly inside the door of Petsmart discusses walk ins and states nothing about not allowing cats on the weekends. Or any difference between cats vs dogs. read more

Today there was absolutely no one in here doing anything. The girl at desk could have done my dogs nail trim herself, but instead she tells me they are short handed. I am very mad about how my dog has been groomed this past visit. I have been going to this PetSmart for about 4-5 years and the experience was great until now. I had to make a last minute appointment for my Pomeranian with a different groomer this experience is the worst. The cut was terrible. He has been shedding patches since the day I picked him up from them. It's been 3 weeks now and He has never shed so bad. They charge me extra money do the defurmantor shampoo grooming that is suppose to prevent the shedding by 90%. NOT TRUE. Again this is the first time in 8 years he has shed and scratched this bad. I will be looking for another groomer in the area. After this post, I spoke with the store manager Tommy and she was very pleasant. She was willing to take my pup back in and complete a full cleaning with organic wash to try and help with the discomfort he was feeling. With no charge to me. THE GROOMERS ARE UNTRAINED AND WILL HURT YOUR ANIMALS. I watched the groomer turn her back on my 80 pound dog while I was waiting for his nails to be done. While she was not paying attention he fell off the table. Unfortunately, because they had a choke chain around his neck lashed to the metal stirrup, he hung by his throat for at least 2 seconds. Once she realized her mistake she boosted him back on to the table. My dog was howling from pain and fear, so I came through the door to calm him down. At this point I was reprimanded for coming back there. I was asked to leave the area. Once, I was sure my dog was ok we left. There was no apology given to us. They could have killed my dog due to their negligence because they have a bunch of untrained, unprofessional, children working for them. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE. read more

I took my Morkie in to get groomed, and they actually cut his dew claw completely....off!! Yes you heard that right.... nail, the pad the entire thing. Now to make it worse they cut his other dew claw off halfway thru the cartilage. He may need surgery to fully remove it if it does not heal. Yes, they did take him to the vet for no charge, but WTH? He has to take antibiotics, pain pills and wear a cone of shame for 2 weeks. I have cut his hair at home myself in the past and can't imagine how rough you would have to have been to cut a dew claw off completely nail pad and all? The store is fairly organized, but doesn't have obvious signs up for clearance items which I found by happenstance (the clearance) - by basic standards this place is over priced and the animals are in tightly cramped spaces, but everything you might need is here! Don't buy Pet authority dog food! Just yesterday I went to buy 2 bags of the lamb and rice for my 3 large dogs and when I got home and went to grab the bags from my trunk I noticed worms also known as maggots crawling out from the bag. I was so grossed out and angry I had to drive back to the store and was able to get a full refund thankfully. I have never had that happen to me and I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else. They explained the reason is that their salon is a too stressful, high-volume place for dogs with a medium-grade heart murmur. BAD SERVICE EVER！I wish I can give them no stars. Don't come here for anything!! I have two puppies, a 7-month-old Labrador and a 5-month-old Havana. I came here today to ask about the training course for my puppies and buy some fish by the way. But the service I got here today was very, very horrible. So,at first I went to the dog teaching area for take a look of dogs training and I went to the fish selling area for getting some fish. But what happened next made me very angry and disappointed. I bought some fish at fish selling area first, but I want more fish so I went back to the fish selling area to buy more. At this time, a young male employee in the fish selling area told me with a very bad attitude that it was too late and he WOULD NOT help me to take the fish out of the fish tank. So I walked away while another customer coming to the fish area to buy fish. Then this young male employee took the fish out of the fish tank for that customer and gave the fish to him without hesitation. I hope Petsmart's team can give me a reasonable explanation. I'd like to know how the managers here respond to this unfair treatment. I wanted to bring my dogs here for training, but I think the poor service attitude of this young male employee in this fish selling area makes me doubting the service of the whole Petsmart staff service. I don't think I can bring my dogs here for training, and also I don't think they can train my dog with a good attitude. I won't consider coming here to training my dog and buy any products. This is the only place I will take my dog Bogie for a trim and wash. Heather is phenomenal with him. She greets me when I walk in the door then all attention is on my pup. He hates car rides, it causes him a lot of grief and anxiety so he always spin up when we get there. He finally relaxes when he sees her as she does such a good job. His cuts are always consistent and she always gives him something extra like a scarf or tie the last time. The shop is always clean (besides the hair from animals they are working on) and it doesn't smell like most groomers. There is never usually a wait to get in and they go out of their way to be flexible. The transactions are always quick and smooth and you're right out the door. I've been coming to this PetSmart for years now and every time I come it has always been a great experience! I take my shiba inu here to get his nails trim every couple of months and the grooming staff (Heather especially) have always been so helpful and patient with my shiba. He isn't exactly the easiest to have his nails trimmed but Heather always seems to find a way to calm him down and get the job done! Very pleased! read more
