I have tried several Mediterranean restaurants in the ILM/Wilmington area, but this place was LEGIT! I ordered the Classic Gyro w/fries & the Greek Gyro Platter. The classic gyro was one of the BEST that I have ever had! The ingredients were super fresh as you can see from the photos, and the portions were well above standards! The Greek Gyro platter came with gyro meat, Greek salad, hummus, and tzatziki sauce. I got both spicy and I highly recommend both! Food I had was tasty. We got the kabob platter that comes with rice and 2 sides. We opted for the Greek salad and stuffed grape leaves. Service was pretty quick. The ambiance is that of a fast food type restaurant. Place order at counter and pickup tray when ready. The only thing I have to say that is slightly negative is they charge 3.50 for a small container of Tzatiki sauce (4oz). I thought that was a little high. This particular location at The Pointe, is my new favorite restaurant in Wilmington. It might look like a fast casual place but this food is made with love and served proudly. I ordered food to-go through Grubhub. The food was ready right on time specified for pick up. The owner, I am assuming, was nice enough to inform me Grubhub charges more and it would be cheaper to order directly through the restaurant or through Clover. I tried the Gyro Shawarma with spicy sauce and a Classic Gyro with cilantro sauce, both with beef and lamb. Both were good, but I personally liked the Gyro Shawarma much more. The meats had good flavor- they are different from The Greeks in that they were cut into thick slices. I prefer thinly sliced meats. The portion of meat was different between the 2 sandwiches - the Gyro Shawarma had way more meat than the Classic Gyro. Fries in the shawarma were crispy. The garlic sauce and spicy sauce in the Gyro Shawarma were very good. I definitely recommend getting the spicy sauce if you like spicy. The cilantro sauce was okay - a watery consistency, slightly tart taste. I would come back just for the Gyro Shawarma with spicy sauce. read more

The food was really good and flavorful. The food is made to order which takes a little while for it to come out to you. The staff was really nice and you could tell they were working hard to make sure the orders were correct and coming out in a timely manner. The restaurant is large in the inside and open so you don't feel overwhelmed. The menu has many options. I had the Greek Gyro Platter and my wife had the chicken gyro platter. I have family in Carolina Beach and they love visiting this place for lunch, so we definitely visited a couple times during my last visit. The food is decent, though I'm not sure I would be craving it on the regular. I think I'm put off by the french fries included in my chicken shawarma. Garlic sauce? Tasty. Parsley? Would totally be expected. But french fries? The menu said potatoes, but I wasn't expecting the potatoes to be just french fries... it seems like a cop out. I was expected potatoes with some kind of Mediterranean seasoning or something. The taste of everything was okay... but "crave worthy"? Meh. One of the last times I visited, my grandmother and I ordered some side options... chickpea salad, tabouleh salad, some fresh fruit. Of the salads, neither was especially memorable. Fine if you're hungry, but again, just fairly generic. The more awkward part of my last experience here was also the WAIT for the food. The service was soooooooooo slow, even though there was barely anybody there. It didn't seem like the norm, but it was definitely off-putting. TL;DR The person who described this place in their review as "the Subway of Mediterranean food" isn't far off. Hopefully, the food is fresher... but ultimately, it's still an overall generic experience - and certainly not ranked that high with regards to the Mediterranean restaurants I've tried in my life. read more

This location has a lot of seating but does not carry the sauces like the one on College. I ordered the chicken gyro platter with the tomato avocado salad instead of Greek salad. I've been here half dozen times now. You can't beat the fresh ingredients. Healthy too. Place your order at the counter and the food is ready in a few/several minutes. There are about 1-12 tables and a few tables outside. On one visit, I had the Veggie Falafel bowl that had falafel, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, parsley, turnips, hummus, and tahini sauce. It was very good and filling.  The falafal was nice and crispy. Loved the pickled radish and fresh-made hummus. Just recently I had the gyro sandwich. Man, oh man, it was huge! It was stuffed with gryo meat, which was perfect. What amazing flavors. It was messy to eat but I was in heaven. I could have used more tzatziki sauce, but really, it was excellent. Don't go. The food is mediocre at best. They have it sssssoooooooo cold in the eating area that the prediction is for a major snow fall/ice storm. There is no need to keep it that cold except they might want to keep the food fresh and half frozen as you eat it. Not sure if it is the male owner with a deep loud voice...he thinks he is funny but rude. He keeps on yelling at the lady doing all the cooking. I will not go back even for a FREE lunch. This restaurant used to be located in the mall and was a hidden gem. Thanks to some help they've rebranded and made it to the Pointe at Barclay. The style is quick casual food but what sets Peño apart is the freshness and flavors. This is a great place to go if you're looking to eat healthy. Tonight I ordered the chicken gyro and had enough to share with my husband. The chicken was flavored with a type of spice that I'm unfamiliar with. It was noticeable in good way and added to the flavor. The tzatziki was on point and the tomatoes were fresh tasting which is a big pet peeve of mine (mealy tomatoes). My son ordered the kid's chicken pita and had it devoured before we got home (a five minute car ride). I'm not sure if he still makes it, but If the owner ever asks if you want the special sauce say yes. A bit of heat, a bit of spice- good stuff! read more

Delicious food and fantastic staff! A friend and I were hungry and came out to the Pointe at try this new restaurant. What a great decision! I'll start with the staff- the night we came in it was Mom, Dad, and daughter working. They were all super sweet and friendly. The daughter was so excited for my friend and I to try the different foods (if you're not sure, ask for a sample). Our happiness was her absolute goal! They all worked smoothly together- not sure my parents and I could do that! The food was fresh and delicious. Ask for the garlic sauce- it goes on everything (if you're familiar with middle eastern food, it's Egyptian tomaya, not Lebanese toum). I personally love Peno. I've tried several of their locations and the food has been so consistent. The portion sizes are huge and I'm always stuffed. They're lamb gyro and salad bowl are my go to picks. Hubby always gets the chicken cheesesteak and loves it. Highly recommend getting things spicy! They have a cherry pepper blend that is fantastic. Tried this place for the first time the other day and I loved it. I love a good gyro and this place has them. The parking lot is kind of small but that's okay just gotta park a little farther. Inside the place is a decent size with plenty of tables and space. Some of the foods are displayed in a case in front where you order which I love and all the food looked super fresh. The staff was super friendly and got the food out quick. I ordered the chicken gyro with a side of fries. The gyro was huge and kept me full for hours. The chicken had a nice flavor and the taziki sauce was yummy. The fries were good as well. Only con would be that it's a little pricey but not too bad for all the food they give you.
