This is my second time here and I really enjoy it. My husband raves about the steak sandwich and he's more of a regular. Both times I've visited we've been seated very quickly. Today because of the football game there were a lot of people mainly at the bar and some eating at tables. We still were seated quickly and had very good service. Often when I'm performing in The Village, I make this my home base for post-show parties. It's great spot to bring 20-40 people from a theatre straight on over after the show. "Tis the season to drink heavily and eat poorly! Phebe's is a great East Village landmark bar that's been servicing the local college kids for some decades now. It's pretty spacious - made up of two huge rooms - and has great divey food and happy hour deals! I've tried their wings, sliders, veggie dish, quesadillas, veggie wraps, chicken tenders, and pretty much the rest of their starters menu. If you're going to go with one, I'd suggest the chicken tenders and wings, especially when they have wings deals! Phebe's is a fantastic place if you're going to work with management to organize an event in the room in the back. They're very accommodating and attentive, not to mention responsive if you need to book it last minute. I've been here for school events, both for undergrad and overgrad. If you want to sit down for a nice "bar" dinner or first date, they've got that option, too - it's actually really fun and pretty in the front! But for more of a festive bar vibe, the second room farther back does the job right. I do wish they had more bathrooms, as it's a really popular bar that gets crowded on the weekends. I can't say enough good things about this place! This is my second time here with a group of 24+ people, and the staff at Phebe's do a wonderful job! They give us our own section around the corner from the bar, and staff that are efficient. The menu is not huge, but they have a nice selection at a reasonable cost. Drinks are the usual city prices, but I recommend you try one of their signature cocktails! We have eaten here on Saturday nights and as the evening gets later they have a DJ so you can get your dance on! Great brunch spot in the Village! Came here on Labor Day for brunch and it wasnt bad at all. The service was nice, it wasnt slammed, the coffee was good and the meals were all fine. Personally I had the breakfast burrito and it just ok. I would get something else next time because it was just a little bland and could've used more salt. Party of two for Sunday brunch we ordered: Classic Caesar $10.00 (with shrimp $6.00)- insufficient dressing, the greens were somewhat browning, jumbo butterfly shrimp were good Nachos $12.00 (with ground beef $3.00)- overwhelming with too much toppings loaded on top of another. Come extremely hungry to eat your fill with this order from the Tavern menu. Twin Chili Dogs $10.00- swimming with too much Chili sauce Cappuccino $3.50 Soda $3.00 Service is somewhat attentive. Window tables have a railing for women's bags and small objects to be rested. No comment on libations as neither of us intake any. When inquiring to our waitress about their Belgian Waffles of the "strawberry butter" it brings total disappoint to me as it is an imitation by preservatives not using actual fresh strawberry fruit. read more

This place gets a bad rap from my friends who went here for their undergrad. Apparently, there's like a dance floor where a bunch of finance and frat bros go to party. However, things might have changed, as I came here during the pandemic with indoor dining. It wasn't what I expected from what I was told. It was a lot better. The place is a good spot for drinks and dinner. It was dimly lit so it had a very intimate feel to it. My friend and I just came from another place for dinner and drinks, and drunkenly wanted more food and drinks. I ordered the fried calamari. But it wasn't very good. It's definitely not fresh, probably frozen or just microwaved. I also ordered a beer, there's a wide selection of mainstream beers. The service was ok as well. Nothing to write home about. One time I was there I ordered 2 drinks already but they won't let me open a tap so I have to close after every drink I bought. We wanted to do a tour at the Merchant's House Museum down the street and had an hour for lunch. We headed to Phebe's, hoping they would be able to get us in and out quickly. Things started off a little rocky - ten minutes ticked by and no one had even acknowledged us after sitting down. I shamelessly went and found a waitress, who apologized profusely and then things were smooth sailing from there. I had a cobb salad and found the food to be fresh and the portion very fair for the price. Mid-meal, the waitress stopped by to say they had poured a wrong beer for someone and let me have the beer - you know, sometimes it's the little things that win you right over. By the time we left, any bit of invisibility we felt from earlier in the visit was forgotten. And we made it back to the Merchant's House Museum in time for their guided tour. I used to come here quite often for appetizers, when they had half off appetizers from 4-8PM. The fried calamari, spinach and artichoke dip, and chicken tenders were my favorites, with a glass of Hoegaarden or a bottle of Corona. Now, there is no half off appetizers, they don't have fried calamari on the menu at all, and it appears they've revamped the place to appear slightly fancier. It usually takes a bit of time for your waitress to take your order as well. They do still have the Mondays and Wednesdays 10 cent wings with a purchase a pitcher of beer (30 wings per pitcher) and pretty good drink specials during happy hour, so I'd probably come once in a while on a Monday or Wednesday. read more

Came here with my husband on a Sunday night - it wasn't crazy busy, but most tables were full with the dinner crowd. Absolutely fantastic meal. We got the mozzarella sticks as an appetizer and they were crispy outside and gooey inside, but the real star was the marinara sauce. No idea if it's made in house, but it sure does taste like it. Really incredible. I got the club sandwich which was delicious and exactly as expected. I got the sweet potato fries and they were excellent as well. My boyfriend got the double cheeseburger with waffle fries and was happy with that as well. They cook the burgers medium-medium well as a default, but it tasted and smelled fresh off a real grill. Overall super pleased with everything we ate and with our leftovers! Super bowl Sunday was my first every time visiting Phebe's and I must say it was truly packed which is to be expected being the restaurant is a Bengals bar. Great atmosphere and a good time. The service was amazing even though you could not even walk in the restaurant our group still got great service from Kayla & Renee. Every time we where ready to order Kayla and or Renee came right over to ensure we had what we needed. I think we must have ordered five skyline chilis which was amazing and we never had to wait long for the food. Again given how busy it was service did not lack. Everyone was very helpful but Kayla & Renee who worked on Sunday night was spot on! Other than that the Bengals did not pull off the W it was a great night. After seeing John Attanas' new and fantastic play, Forgiveness, I went with his wife and her good friend to Phebe's Tavern and Grill. Her husband joined us later. The interior of Phebe's is very much the definition of a tavern spliced with the typical New York Brunch destination. Speaking of which, Brunch was winding but we got in just in time so we could take advantage of it. Two out of the three and later four, did. My friend got the Salmon Eggs Benedict with a Bloody Mary. I got the Breakfast sandwich which came with Jalapeños and a Screwdriver. Both our meals came with home fries. Me, being an utter fiend, got a side of Tater Tots. Her friend ordered a veggie burger with fries and her husband got a Mediterranean salad. My sandwich, though I doused with salt and Pepper, was still lacking in flavor. I would have loved some hot sauce or something to spice it up! I liked the potatoes. They were definitely greasy and made with peppers and onions. The Tater Tots were delicious but I'm highly biased. My Screwdriver was refreshing. The food is surprisingly filling but not overly so. Manhattan portions actually worked out! The overall atmosphere is very relaxed and chill. The worst bar ever. Let's be honest the drinks are MORE than average. The vibe is off and the people who they hire are absolutely atrocious. They better pray they don't hear from my father's lawyer. This is a typical UNDER-AGED bar full of teenagers. Don't even think about showing that you're having a good time there or they will throw you out. I sat by the bar and was just chilling there with my friends when two random bouncers came up to me and RUDELY asked me to leave. I cannot believe Phebe's is as popular as it is. It's just a spot where college freshmen (and high schoolers, too) go when they don't know any other bars. IDs are checked but I've seen plenty of people slip the bouncer a 20 and get in. A lot of older men hang around here & try to pick up underage girls. Avoid the back room with the benches if you're too drunk, because this place attracts Brock Turner types. Plus the drinks are overpriced. read more

After the non-existent service we received at B Bar & Grill across the street, we decided to have some drinks and apps at Phebe's and am so happy we did. Service was excellent. The place was fairly empty on a Sunday afternoon, but we enjoyed the nice chill vibe of the place. They also had a decent beer and wine selection.
