Terrible experience with this provider. I trusted Sandi like no other dental provider in…read moreAlbuquerque. No more. After many years of going to Sandi for her patient-centered policies, she has "gone corporate." Since expanding her practice, Sandi now forces patients into wholly unnecessary profit-oriented processes, explaining it away by claiming "liability" concerns for herself. In the past she was warm and friendly. Wow did she turn cold when I questioned her dramatic reversal of her own health care beliefs and commitments. In fact, I checked with the ADA and her assertions about "mandatory" procedures are simply wrong. But she would rather make the money than stand by her own commitments that I trusted. In fact, I sat in her waiting area and listened to her literally pitch one of her new dental procedures to another patient. (A pitch that had the feel of needing to justify the high cost of an expensive equipment purchase.) Based on how happy I was with her approach, I had referred several people to her. I am now embarrassed to have so enthusiastically recommended her and withdraw my endorsement.

A 2nd opinion was requested, which nobody has followed up on with me. I told them I need 31 crowned because that is the one hurting me. 3rd appointment They were going to crown 30, not 31, they have no nitrous available, I waited nearly and hour to see a dentsit. They did the prep work for the crown and then the dentist came in and said he couldn't do a crown or he wasn't sure if he could, and I should see an endontist to figure that out. It was already hurting me, so I said go ahead and pull it. Again, no nitrous in the office at all. He yanked on my face for at least an hour, and said I'd have to go to an oral surgeon to finish the job. The battery kept running out on his headlamp, they didn't have the tools to finish the job, and there seemed to be other equipment lacking. The dentist said he'd pay for whatever my insurance didn't cover at the oral surgeon, so that was decent. He made the appointment, and I went there the next day. It took the oral surgeon about 3 minutes to get the roots out. I had to suffer through another round of novocane shots in the same spots as the day before. As far as the office is concerned, there seems to be communication problems with regard to appointments and they seem to be overbooking patients. I will be looking for a new dentist again. Sigh.

This review is for a root canal performed at Modern Dentistry in Albuquerque…read more The general manager at this location is really caring and proficiently answers all questions as it seems the staff at the front computers are there primarily to check people in. You will be asked to sign forms that you cannot see and they will provide the forms to you only if you ask. They were really good with the estimate they provided ahead of the procedure, so I knew what to expect financially. The team was very kind to reschedule me as I arrived late due to traffic (accident) delays and I arrived at the wrong address - do not put in 2800 Coors as it will not bring you to the right address. This combination of events made me 20 min late even though I had allowed 30 extra minutes of travel time for a 90 min drive. Better to put into your phone the actual name (modern dentistry Albuquerque) or home depot (the office is tucked behind the home pot with no big sign except in front of the office over the front door. If you are more than 10 min late the office may do their best to reschedule you the same day and they will allow you to sit in the sitting area with wifi provided - bring your own water as their water dispenser in the sitting area is broken as of Feb 2023 and no other option is offered. The endodontist, Dr. Wilson, was previously a dentist and is now an endodontist. He uses a microscope to perform his work really well with a set of instruments on a tray, and doesn't use the more modern tools that some endontists now use. He's good about giving info on what he is doing and his dental tech/assistant is really kind and explains additional things if you have questions. Dr. Wilson will sing along to the relatively loud music piped through the intercom of the office - if you do not mind...I kindly provided feedback to him this was not my personal preference as he is drilling in my mouth right next to my ear ...brings back memories of another endodontist in Santa Fe who hums a weird low voice while leaning into the patient during the procedure (felt creepy to me and others in reviews provided similar feedback) - might be soothing to some patients??? So if you'd rather Dr. Wilson not sing, you could kindly ask him ahead of the procedure not to sing and he is super nice, so I'm sure he would kindly oblige. Suggestion: You may want to ask the dental office what pain meds you can safely take before/after your root canal as I was in a lot of pain after the root canal, and no pain meds are provided. Ice and non prescription pain meds were enough to reduce pain once I arrived home. No instructions were provided post procedure and if you need them, perhaps you can ask? CAUTION: Please keep your valuables at hand at this office. As of Feb 2023, there is construction happening at this location and when I left my favorite stainless steel coffee mug in the sitting area, it was gone when I returned from the bathroom and from talking to the front desk. The general manager showed the video of me coming into the front door and did not see that I had tucked my coffee mug under my arm behind my laptop computer - and they actual tried to convince me I had not entered the sitting area with it. I had clearly been drinking the coffee during my entire 2 hour drive, arrived with the mug, and it was stolen from the sitting/waiting area. Three times they asked me to check to ensure it was not left in my truck. There is only one camera at the entrance to the dentist office and none in the waiting area or offices - this might be a consideration for the clinic safety as they continue with construction. My coffee mug (still 1/4 full of black decaf coffee) was stolen from the sitting area and I hope by sharing this that you will be spared the angst that I had in losing something with sentimental value. IMHO it's not the staff who would do this but perhaps the people coming and going. Hope the person that stole it gets as much enjoyment as I did from it - great mug!

The office staff claimed they would call her back but did not do so, so I encouraged her to call again since they were likely busy. They laughed that this was the third time she had called and made fun of her being from out of state. They agreed with each other to just tell her that the dentist had left and they said their goodbyes. When the front desk person returned to the phone and said the dentist had left, my daughter brought up the fact that she was not placed on hold and just heard their entire conversation. The staff member became very quiet, failed to apologize, simply mumbled something, and hung up. This is the worst unprofessional customer service I have been a part of experiencing. Everyone in this office is kind, professional, and always puts you at ease with whatever you're having done. Their office hours are very accommodating, with early morning and evening appointments available if you need them. I've seen them several times over the last couple of years for everything from cleanings, to cavities, and more. Then, yesterday, August 7, 2020, I tripped over a small gate in our backyard, landing face first on our concrete walkway, damaging several front teeth in the process. I called their emergency number, and Dr. Babilonia answered right away. She asked me to text her a picture of my teeth, and upon seeing the picture, decided I needed to be seen by an endodontist, as the injury was more severe than she could care for in her office. Luckily, her husband, Dr. Hochberg, is an endodontist with a practice located near Montgomery and Pennsylvania. Agreeing that immediate treatment was crucial, she and her husband met us (I was in no shape to drive so my boyfriend took me) at his office within 45 minutes. Let me repeat that, just so it's perfectly clear. Dr. Babilonia and her husband came in on a Friday night, in the middle of a pandemic, to help me. Now you may think, well, that's their job, and sure, I wouldn't disagree with you, but they could easily have said, you know what, given the extent of the injury to your teeth and mouth, it's probably better if you go to the ER. That would not have been an unreasonable call to make. But they didn't. They gave up their Friday night to help me instead. Throughout the whole experience they were both calm, calming (I was a little freaked out), consultative, and clearly concerned about my physical, and emotional well-being. I'm going to leave a separate review on the page for Dr. Hochberg's business (Endodontic Associates of Albuquerque) as well, but I want to make sure I say how impressed I have always been with Dr. Babilonia, her staff, and her practice. Last night's emergency just solidified what I already suspected. These are good people, doing a good job, and taking care of their community. If you're looking for a dentist, you can't go wrong with Smiles That Work.
