Plus all of the staff are friendly and helpful. I recently had a problem with my right eye which scared me. I woke up with sticking and tears streaming from my eye and I had problems seeing clearly from that eye. I thought it would soon go away but it didn't, it actually got worse. The following day I went into Thompson Eye Care but Dr Gerald wasn't there so I saw Dr Kathryn. She was super helpful and gentle with my eye. She ran thorough exams and explained everything she was doing. By the time she was through my eye felt a bit better and she called in prescription which I picked up that night and I was told to return the next day. The following day my eye felt better but still had the same symptoms this time I saw Dr Gerald who greeted me and told me Dr Kathryn apprised him of my problem. He ran a couple tests and took photos and he explained what he was seeing. He asked me some questions which made me realize that I had wiped my eye with a tissue and it scratched my eye. This caused the discomfort and an infection. This is the reason I have been coming to this place for my eye care. This father/daughter team is super able to make me feel taken care of. Over the years I have had my eye problems handled effectively, they are both patient and helpful. I actually know a couple of neighbors who also come here and they both love their services.

I had three appointments at this establishment and quickly learned that unless you make an appointment to be one of the first patients you will wait for hours. That is unless you are the first patient of the day and the doctor you are scheduled to see if always late, and I mean late by 45 minutes or more. This was known by the schedulers and the optometrist assistants as when I mentioned I had been waiting for over an hour they stated that the doctor I was scheduled to see is always running late then takes her time eating her breakfast before seeing patients. After my second appointment of being prescribed 4 products three of which I had to purchase from them I realized that this place is a money grab. They want to continue pushing you to purchase their products instead of a resolution. I wanted to be sized for hard contacts as my optometrist had already confirmed I was the ideal candidate for it; however they stated they wished to continue meds. I made the decision after my third appointment that this was not the place for me. I never had an appointment where the waiting room was not full to the point patients were sitting in the hallway. Not the type of establishment I will support.

However, my experiences with the front desk staff have been consistently negative. I've had multiple interactions with the men and women at the front desk and they often come across as rude and uninterested in helping. When I call for follow-ups, I'm frequently placed on hold and then transferred, only to have to repeat my information multiple times. It turns a simple request into a frustrating process just to receive a basic service. Even in person, there's a noticeable lack of professionalism when you walk in. It's disappointing because it shouldn't feel this difficult to pay for and receive care. Times are hard, and people deserve to be treated with basic courtesy when they're spending their money. I was looking for a specific lens brand, ZEISS, to fill my new eyewear prescription. I called and was a bit surprised to hear "Thanks for calling My Eye Doctor!". Apparently the Yelp info has not been updated. I was placed on hold for approx. 10 minutes. The page states that they indeed do sell ZEISS lenses. I posed this question to the person who answered. I was placed on hold again for several minutes, after having to repeat and spell ZEISS. She had never heard of that brand. After my second wait, I was told that they do not use ZEISS. I guess I'll go elsewhere.

Basically, the intake form was to ensure that a patient's insurance was accepted. Fortunately for me, someone from the office called me within 10-15 minutes of the office opening, and I was able to secure a same day appointment for my eye situation. Upon arriving to the Silver Spring location, I saw that the office has a couple of kiosks that patients must use to check it. Ok, I get that on paper this probably seemed like a good idea. Also, nowadays, I think businesses want to show forward-thinking by incorporating technology into everything (whether it's needed or not). However, the problem (IMO) with using a kiosk at an eye care center is that many patients (like me) probably will not be able to see too well. Also, many elderly patients probably will not have the ability (and patience) to use these sorts of machines. In fact, while waiting for my turn, I noticed that the workers at the front desk had to help most of the patients with the kiosks. The doctor that helped me out was pretty nice and very compassionate regarding my situation. Fortunately for me, my eye issue was pretty straightforward and required very minimal medical intervention. Phew. While preparing to leave, the doctor sent my prescription to my local pharmacy and provided a paper copy of the 'script'. Unfortunately, when I arrived to my pharmacy about 45 minutes after my visit, the pharmacy had not received the script. No worries because I had the paper copy script as a backup. Even the doctor mentioned that they gave me the paper copy because they weren't sure if the prescription would go through electronically. Unfortunately, the doctor did not include their printed name or their license number, so the pharmacy could not fill the prescription. Because of this situation, the pharmacy and I had to call the eye care center several times to have the prescription sent to the pharmacy. I will say the folks from the eye center who helped me with this technical issue were very nice, but it was kind of annoying that a process that's supposed to take a few minutes ended up taking an hour. Perhaps, this tech situation is not common for the eye center and I was unlucky to experience it.

I'll definitely be returning and would recommend them to others looking for quality eye care.
