Plus all of the staff are friendly and helpful. I recently had a problem with my right eye which scared me. I woke up with sticking and tears streaming from my eye and I had problems seeing clearly from that eye. I thought it would soon go away but it didn't, it actually got worse. The following day I went into Thompson Eye Care but Dr Gerald wasn't there so I saw Dr Kathryn. She was super helpful and gentle with my eye. She ran thorough exams and explained everything she was doing. By the time she was through my eye felt a bit better and she called in prescription which I picked up that night and I was told to return the next day. The following day my eye felt better but still had the same symptoms this time I saw Dr Gerald who greeted me and told me Dr Kathryn apprised him of my problem. He ran a couple tests and took photos and he explained what he was seeing. He asked me some questions which made me realize that I had wiped my eye with a tissue and it scratched my eye. This caused the discomfort and an infection. This is the reason I have been coming to this place for my eye care. This father/daughter team is super able to make me feel taken care of. Over the years I have had my eye problems handled effectively, they are both patient and helpful. I actually know a couple of neighbors who also come here and they both love their services.

The optician who unlocked the door after I rang the bell said he would check to see if they had the parts. When he didn't return immediately I knew they did, and that gave me time to appreciate the extreme covid measures: wide distancing, universal masking, hand sanitizer on every counter. 10 minutes, $10, and my cherished Zeiss shades should be good for another 20 years. I'm a fan!

The MD told me I had conjunctivitis, gave me drops and an antibiotic. I took them and then left for Lanham in the afternoon. Last night my eye hurt-I took the drops, went to sleep and woke up to my eye throbbing this morning, in Lanham. My colleague broke out the YP directory and found an ad for Dr. Hsieh. I called the office, the gal who answered the phone was very nice and able to squeeze me in as an emergency. When I arrived at the office, I walked in and although a little dated looking, I was so grateul they were able to see me. I was quickly escorted to a patient room and within minutes, a super friendly and smiling Dr. Hsieh walked in and greeted me warmly. I had seen a couple of old reviews online about his office and they did not do him justice. Dr. Hsieh is funny, warm, decisive and thoughtful. If I were local to this area, he would be my go to doc for my eyes. Thanks Dr. Hsieh! I hope you see this!!!!

Dr. Robert Hsieh is a great doctor. He cares very much about his patient. However the front office staff are rude and do not give patient proper information because they are always in a hurry to get rid of patient so that they can talk about their personal activities. As my daughter gets older she were developing poor vision and we were refer to Dr. Hsieh by our family doctor for over 20 years. When we made the first appointment for my daughter to see Dr. Hsieh the office staff that I spoke with over the phone was harsh. She spoke quickly and hang up the phone. She did not even give me a chance to ask any questions. I really thought that they may be very busy because the doctor is so good that they are trying to keep up with patients appointment. But when I went to the appointment I signed in and was to told to take a seat and wait to be called. I sat there about an hour only to listen to the office staff talk about their personal business. We moved from Prince Georges County and wanted to see Dr. Hsieh because he gave my daughter her first prescription, so I made an appointment and drove two hours to get to the office on time. Only to be told by the office staff that we needed an referral. When I asked why I was not told this at the time I made the appointment. The office staff said that, " Its not our job to tell you that you need a referral". I was taken by surprise and we walk right out of the office. We will never refer anyone to this office. There are many good caring eye doctors with polite staff out there.

My details were verified. My Eye pressure was checked along with Eye glass number check up. I was asked about my symptoms by the Nurse. Everything was noted down systematically. After that, I was in the waiting room. The Doctor Ms. Patel came and saw me, took the time to explain my symptoms, checked my eyes and sent the prescription directly to my Pharmacy. Ms. Patel also saw that I was comfortable with the medication prescribed and asked me to call their office if I was uncomfortable and gave me a follow up appointment. Ms. Patel and the office is very professional and I will ask other customers to visit the same as you are not rushed and Doctor takes time to explain things clearly. This was my very first visit. I called to see if we could visit as a walk-in. The center closes at 5pm. I was told at 3:26pm that they were not taking walk-ins - which I accepted. As I looked through the website to try and schedule an appointment, I read that the center accepts emergency walk-ins. So, we decided to rush and head over to the center while arriving almost an hour and 15 minutes before closing. After speaking with employee Daphne, she shared the same messaging (including only walk-ins for emergencies). I told her it is an emergency and to look at my mother's eye. That prompted some sort of sympathy to try and help us. A few employees continued to chime in and "try" to support but confused us even more. Some saying they don't have appointments and that the doctor's are already gone or wrapping up. We were even told that walk-ins stopped at 2:40pm! Mind you, no where on the website or signage throughout the center mentions anything about the aforementioned! Daphne dares to ask, "why do you have an attitude? I helped your mom get an appointment." Again, her colleague just told us there weren't any appointments available to which I mentioned false advertising and reporting to the Better Business Bureau (which I plan to do). Mixed messages! To top it off, another employee decided to talk about us to Daphne in a way that was conniving and caused concern. Daphne refused to give me her name and the employee was scared to share it. I just knew she looked manly with horrible clown makeup. She was heard telling Daphne saying something to the effect of "don't worry, we have him on a recorded line telling him about not accepting walk-ins, don't worry, I got you." Daphne then hangs the phone because her colleague "helped" her. Again, I already knew about no walk-ins. We were there because they take emergency walk-ins (per website and Daphne's words). So, I thought. False advertisement. Finally, we were called to a room but to see a clinic (manager) instead of an actual medical professional. While the clinic manager helped us find another clinic for the next morning, she was not empathetic to my apology and concern about Daphne and her colleague. Overall, I do NOT recommend going to the Maryland Eye Care Center due to misinformation and false advertising of walk-in/emergency times.
