    Peking Duck
    Andrean S.

I had very high hopes for Philippe Chow, but unfortunately the experience was incredibly disappointing, especially given the price point. Our party of six was hosting an out-of-town guest and chose Philippe Chow because of its reputation. We dine out frequently and were looking forward to what we expected would be a memorable evening. We ordered the chicken lettuce wraps, hot and sour soup (they were out of wonton soup), beef satay, shrimp satay, walnut shrimp, Peking duck, Shanghai noodles, pork pineapple fried rice, shrimp fried rice, several orders of spring rolls, and Chilean sea bass. The meal started off poorly. The lettuce wraps and hot and sour soup were so unappealing that we sent both back. The Peking duck, one of the restaurant's signature dishes, was carved tableside but was served cold. The accompanying pancakes were only lukewarm, which made the dish even more disappointing. The bright spots of the evening were the noodles, satay, spring rolls, and fried rice. Those dishes were enjoyable and were the only items that met our expectations. To make matters worse, we never received the Chilean sea bass we ordered, which may have helped redeem some of the evening. For a bill approaching $700, the overall quality and execution were simply unacceptable. The most telling part of the experience is that after spending nearly $700 on dinner and another $50 on parking, we left the restaurant and went elsewhere to eat because we were still hungry and unsatisfied. That should never happen at a restaurant operating at this price point. What makes this even more frustrating is that we specifically chose Philippe Chow to entertain an out-of-town guest. Instead of showcasing a great dining experience, we were left embarrassed by a meal that was overwhelmingly lackluster. Sadly, our party will not be returning. With the restaurant's reputation, pricing, and prestige, our expectations were high. Instead, we left feeling disappointed, frustrated, and honestly a bit disgusted by the value received for what ended up being a $750 night.

Dumping Sampler with chicken, veggie, and shrimp

If you're in the mood for upscale Asian cuisine, this is the place to go. The atmosphere was nice with views of the water, there was a jazz band playing that night, but not overly loud, and the staff and service were very attentive. The dumpling sampler was delicious and had some of the best veggie dumplings I've ever had. The inside had crunchy veggies instead of a bunch of mush. The chicken and shrimp ones were good too, but I liked the green one the best. I know, right? The Sea Bass was out of this world outstanding. It was sliced into thin pieces and served with two sauces. This fish was melt in your mouth delicious, so whoever prepared this knew what they were doing. And how in the F did they slice that so perfectly? With a diamond knife? The only miss was the Hot and Sour soup... It looked amazing, but alas, it came out and it wasn't hot (temperature). I was exploring more museums the next day and didn't want to explore every toilet in the place. I had 4 or 5 cocktails (lost track) and all were delicious and unique. The pacific old fashioned was my favorite, but I'd order any of them again. It was a fun walk back to my hotel, and I slept great that night! I think...

I would like to say I will definitely come back and try here again, but nothing we had was great. What stood out was the service. Everything was so nice in the restaurant and the servers were top notch. Also the chef came out and was talking to everyone. As far as food goes nothing was super special or stood out. It could have been from anywhere to be completely honest. But once again nothing stood out at all. That said I do want to come back for the jazz on Sunday. I will keep expectations in check for food

Really enjoyed my experience at Philippe by Philippe Chow. Came for dinner and everything from start to finish was solid. Camilo was our server and he did an amazing job. Very attentive, personable, and made sure we were well taken care of the entire time. Also want to highlight Jorge, who helped clear our table. He brought such a great energy and genuinely made us smile. You can tell he enjoys what he does. The manager also stopped by and was very kind and welcoming, which we appreciated. We ordered the glazed spare ribs, sesame chicken, and nine seasons spicy prawns and everything was delicious. Well seasoned, nicely plated, and good portion sizes. The vibe here is really nice too. It has an upscale but still comfortable feel, and even the bathrooms are thoughtfully designed. Definitely a place I would come back to.

I was so excited to try this restaurant and ended up feeling underwhelmed by the experience. First, the food was lackluster. Trader Joe's has better--and way cheaper--dumplings. The lettuce wraps were great, though! Our entrees were extremely overpriced. $34 for a mediocre chicken dish that was listed as coming with walnuts but came with peanuts? That's both misleading AND potentially dangerous! Our server spent the night apologizing for slow food and service. I love the Wharf and love dining out, but I'd encourage you to get cheaper take out and just sit outside.

I really do love this place. My partner and I came back for Valentine's Day. We opted for an early dinner because we had events on Sunday. For the most part, we stuck to our favorites! The espresso martini is divine! She ordered at drink that came with a side of champagne, the Porn Star Martini, which was also very good. I started with the chicken satay which is my favorite of all time. I just can't get enough of if! She ordered the calamari. It's not the usual shaped calamari, but tastes just as good. We went on to order Chilean Sea Bass, Bronzini, broccoli, and bok choy. The food is always cooked to perfection. The vegetables are perfect. And of course, the red velvet cake for dessert. It's almost as good as mine. Ha! Our server was on point. It was Valentine's Day so they had a 90-minute dining rule in place. We actually went over, but nobody tried to put us out. I like the vibe better during non-holidays (fabricated or not), but it was still a good dining experience. The ambiance was nice and love was in the air.

Went here with my best friend after work we wanted to have a nice meal at the Wharf and we were in the mood for some Asian food. We saw that Philippe Chow is top rated and decided to visit. Our waiter Andre was very nice and had great recommendations for appetizers. We decided to get the scallion, pancake and fried pork dumplings. Both of them were delicious. I really enjoyed the scallion pancakes and the vinegar sauce that I came with. He also suggested that we get two entrées to share because the food is family style but medium sized. We decided on the sesame chicken and the filet mignon with green beans both of the dishes were absolutely delicious. I really enjoyed the sesame chicken. I would definitely get that again. If you're a beef person, I think the filet mignon is the best way to go. They also gave us a complementary bowl of white rice, which was nice surprise. I like the restaurant in the ambience of it was cool and the music outside was popping. I do suggest getting two appetizers and two entrées, if you're with two people. They also have an option for you to get a family style meal for $95 for a party of four or more.

Update: we just tried their happy hour they call "dragon hour" and everything was spectacular. We got lychee martinis, chicken + beef satays, shrimp dumplings, and shrimp spring rolls. The satays were better peanuty and oily so I didn't care for them but the rest of the food was amazing. I'll definitely return for their happy hour. I also love that their happy hour lasts longer than other spots on the wharf since they're open till 7

Truly an unexpected gem. I did not know what to expect for such a large restaurant, but the food was definitely worth it! Huge portion sizes so we ended up sharing the entrees and appetizers. Great tasting food and the drinks were scrumptious! The service was outstanding as well. The Wharf can be very busy and overstimulating, but Philippe Chow was a great escape!

Amazing location right on the waterfront (Washington DC, Warf). Parking garage a stones throw away from the restaurant. We arrived on Friday about 3 pm, and after about an hour the place was almost packed with patrons. The server was excellent. Overall, the food was good..however, the fried beef was chewy. The ambiance was wonderful..we had a windows seat facing the water...excellent.

Although I've heard of Philippe Chow, I hadn't dined here before. For my first dining experience of 2026, they earned a spot in my heart and a five-star review. Honorable mention to our server Victor, the manager, and everyone who made our experience stellar. They were very responsive and corrected any missteps without having to mention it. They do have a bar, and if you'd like, you can dine or just enjoy drinks. This is a good place for solo dining, date night, and group celebrations. Reservations are highly encouraged. Do know that if you order the duck, there can be a 45-minute wait before it is served. Coat check is available. A parking garage is available nearby, as street parking is rare. When the weather supports, there is outdoor seating with fire tables and a scenic view of the Wharf. The appetizers of calamari and wontons (veggie, chicken, and shrimp) were great. My kiss of the dragon sidecar was very refreshing and worth ordering again. Dining here with others presents an opportunity to share and explore the menu. I found the shrimp fried rice and broccoli à la carte items to be enough for the table, with leftovers for the next day. The crispy duck entree comes with thin wraps. You can layer the accompanying scallions, celery, and plum sauce for a customized bite. None of the items we ordered required additional seasoning. Everything was hot and well presented. I look forward to recommending and dining here again.

I took my parents to Philippe Chow for Christmas Eve for the second year in a row, and it is officially becoming our holiday tradition. We started at the bar, where Blanca was amazing. She made a great espresso martini for me, a perfectly crafted Woodford Old Fashioned for my dad, and a delicious chocolate martini for my mom. We also enjoyed the chicken and beef satay, vegetable dumplings, and spicy edamame. The ambiance was beautiful and festive with a stunning Christmas tree, great holiday music, softly dimmed lighting, and a cozy view of the fire pits outside. For dinner, Chef David stopped by and the food truly delivered. We ordered the crispy duck, spicy lobster noodles, lobster fried rice, and stir-fry vegetables, and finished with the Nutella beignets. Everything was flavorful and filling. An amazing experience all around and we already cannot wait to come back next year. Highly recommend.

Philippe Chow shines during Restaurant Week and anytime of year - with menus that feel like a genuine value--not a consolation prize. The bar service is always excellent and well-paced, setting the tone right out of the gate. The ginger-spiced wonton soup was fresh and warming with just the right bite, the fried rice was loaded with crisp, fresh veggies, and the dumplings were... well, sticky in that indulgent, comfort-forward way you secretly want them to be. Save room for dessert--decadent, polished, and a strong finish to the meal. Elevated Chinese cuisine, thoughtfully executed, and especially worth a visit during Restaurant Week. A solid win at the Wharf.

It's a lovely thing to wander through before heading in to eat just a few feet away. The setting itself doesn't feel like Washington at all. With the charming little patio and relaxed vibe, you could imagine you're in another country, and it strikes a wonderful balance between easygoing and sophisticated. Little touches go a long way for me, and they nailed them here: silverware with the lovely illusion of polished silver and elevated stemware that added an extra bit of vibe to the whole experience. The staff were wonderfully accommodating from the start: everything was still soaked from the heavy rain the night before, but they went out of their way to set us up in a lovely shaded spot so we'd stay cool and comfortable. That same care showed up in a much bigger way later, when one of our party passed out from a health issue unrelated to the meal, and the team handled it with calm, attentiveness, and real heart. Now, the food. The brunch menu hits all the classics, chicken and waffles, eggs Benedict with fun variations featuring crab and smoked fish, all the good stuff. I settled on the lobster roll, which was incredibly good, served with Old Bay fries that came out perfectly hot and crisp, exactly the way fries should always arrive, with ketchup on the side. We also tried the tuna tartare and the buffalo oysters, which were a blast: fried oysters with a blue cheese dressing and hot sauce, served in the cutest presentation in shells on smooth lake pebbles. On the drinks side, I had a "Bloody Margaret," a gin-based riff on a Bloody Mary, and it was wonderfully spicy, just the way I like it. The cocktail list overall is playful and worth exploring. Oysters are clearly one of their fortes. They focus on Virginia oysters, so it's a single variety, but they do a lot with it across a range of preparations. There's also a fun Virginia peanut-centric theme running through the menu.

The Parker House Rolls were fluffy, but nothing I would put on the highly recommended list. Our waiter was very kind and personable. Other than that, I'm not sure if I would come back. Thankfully, my friends and I showed up in full Mob Wives/Real Housewives of the DMV mode and brought our own entertainment. Fur, glam, attitude, and enough photos to make our storage cry for help. The service? No complaints. The staff treated us like VIPs all night, checked on us constantly, and even let us stay in the igloo a little longer. Love that for us. Now let's talk about the food because HONEY... THAT was the star of the show. Every single person at the table was obsessed with their meal. The food came out looking good and actually tasted good too, which is not always guaranteed at pretty places. We were passing plates, taking bites off each other's forks, and making those little "mmm" noises all night. Honestly, I would've stayed longer, but Mother Nature had other plans. We were literally dining in the middle of a snowstorm brewing over DC. The views were beautiful, the food was hitting, the service was solid, and the birthday vibes were immaculate. Would I come back? Absolutely. The igloo didn't completely eat the way I wanted it to, but the food sure did.

I had their Solace Party Cloudy Hazy IPA and he had a Hendricks Martini. The staff was amazing and on top of everything. May was our bartender and Jorge was the barback. Both were super friendly and social. The oysters were good and the drinks were tasty. We would come back. We went back again today (4/11) with some friends and chose a seat outside. The table we chose required you to order your drinks from the bar which was super easy and convenient. May took care of us again and was just as great as yesterday. We started with 6 salty-wolfe oysters and the fried shrimp and calamari combo. Both were delicious. My husband had the oyster po boy with old bay fries and I had the roasted half chicken. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals! Our friends got oysters, shrimp po boy and a side of the carrots. Between us all we had martinis, margaritas and beer. We really enjoyed our experience and would highly recommend.

The restaurant was extremely busy, with the line out the door, so I understand it was a hectic day. However, the service was exceptionally slow. It took over 30 minutes for our order to even be entered into the system, and we waited about an hour for our food, including the appetizers. Our server, Brandon, started off okay after we were seated, but as the evening went on, he seemed distracted and less attentive to our table. With a large group that included children and a baby, we definitely needed more communication and support. The standout of the evening was the management team, especially Brandy. She was truly all hands on deck and went above and beyond to assist us. She was kind, customer-focused, and worked hard to address concerns and make sure guests felt taken care of. She honestly provided the best service we received during our visit. The food had several highlights. The char-grilled octopus was delicious and my first time trying it. The salad was top tier, and the shrimp fettuccine was probably one of the best dishes on the menu. The deviled eggs were good but could use a little more seasoning. The fish sandwich needed more sauce, and the fries and shrimp po' boy were both enjoyable, especially with extra sauce. One thing I didn't appreciate was the layout and accessibility of the restaurant. The space felt overcrowded, and the tables were packed very tightly together. As we were leaving, I had my son in his stroller and there wasn't enough room to comfortably get through. I was disappointed that our server didn't offer to help adjust the table or create a path for us to exit. I also noticed there weren't ramps that would make it easier for strollers or guests with mobility challenges to navigate the space. Improving accessibility and spacing would make a huge difference in the overall experience. Overall, the food and Brandy's exceptional customer service were the highlights of the visit. However, the long wait times, overcrowded seating, and accessibility concerns kept this from being a higher-rated experience.

I ordered 1 crab cake and 4 oysters with sauteed spinach and potato wedges. The crab cake was *wow* AMAZING. So incredibly moist, juicy, and perfectly fried. It was delicious with tartar sauce and bread roll. I have to say, I'm really impressed with the bread rolls. I would've never thought a white bread roll could be so delicious, chewy, and fresh-tasting. It seriously tasted fresh and was so soft and doughy, so deliciously addictive. Even one friend, who does not like carbs, thought the bread rolls were amazing too. As for the oysters, they were fried, which surprised me a bit, as I was not expecting then to be fried. They were okay. Pretty unique taste and not bad at all, but I would've preferred raw or cooked (not fried) oysters. The sauteed spinach was rather too salty for me, but potato wedges were good. I tried a friend's crab balls, and they were too dry - no crab taste, just mostly crumbly bread meal taste. Another friend got a platter with red snapper and shrimps; the red snapper was cooked well, but I've always thought it to be rather tasteless for me, and the shrimps (fried) were good. This shop gave more than 4 pieces of seafood, which was the standard number for most of the seafood on the menu (one friend ordered 4 crab balls but got 5, I ordered 4 oysters and got 5, another person ordered 4 shrimps and got 6)! Nice! Portions (and the extra freebies) were very reasonable for the prices. It may be a good idea to split the seafood platter with another person... It was an incredibly filling meal that I could barely finish (and I'm typically a very hungry female athlete).

With the big line, I had hoped the food would be good. I ordered the crabcake sandwich ($9.85 w tax), which was mostly filler. There were also some shells in the takeout container. There was no seasoning, and it was just kind of bland and boring. I wouldn't return.
