Seeing their National Sandwich Day promo email, I had the perfect impetus to make my triumphant return. Combo Beef & Char Grilled Italian Sausage Sandwich- A flavorful hybrid of an Italian sandwich & hot dog, the Combo was filling & satisfying. Originally wanted the $1+ purchase to be gardiniera or au jus, I was told they were already included. Next best option - cheese sauce! The cheese sauce kicked up an already pleasing sandwich, and I relished each bite. Service was great. The young woman behind the register was friendly & hospitable. Plenty of seating inside, and especially outside in their patio facing La Palma Ave. Parking is at Buena Park Downtown mall, which is a barren apocalyptic nightmare. It's across the street from Knott's Berry Farm. You'd think the mall would attract visitors? Portillo's provided a great perk for their Rewards members in honor of National Sandwich Day. Spreading the amount of time to redeem the offer from one day to six days, allowed more people the ability to take advantage of the free regular sandwich. I'll be back for more Chicago-style eats!
