First time trying Black market and it's the happening place to be! I'm surprised how one little shop can make sooo many varieties of meals. I actually feel like I'm super late to the party on this one. At first it was a little overwhelming with all the options and walking in, but I got a super solid run through. The hot meal I tried was just as good as any restaurant meal in addition that you just feel better knowing it's been carefully planned out for your overall nutritional needs. The salmon and steak both tasted like it came off a flame grill, you'd never expect it to be from a meal prep place. Well at some point there was but now it's tables selling a bunch of "healthy" snacks to gullible people. The only seating is an extremely narrow bar on the left side of the store and the world's most unergonomic metal stools. So I drove over to Mainplace to actually be able to sit in a real chair. Was impressed with the inside and the variety of fresh meat and veggies to create your own..first I bought two grab and go on Wednesday.. to see how good the food was before I delve into the made to order food..the two grab and go were chicken thigh with veggies and rice. Comes in a ready to microwave container..expired date was the 15th and bought on the 14th..fresh ..full of flavors and is enough for a single guy watching his diet. No preservatives..fresh as stated on the label. So come Saturday..decided to go back and create my own..both 5oz as are the grab and go. Got teriyaki chicken with green beans and sweet potatoes on one and lime tri tip with carrots and red potatoes..as well as three grab and go. All were 50 percent off due to expired date today the 17th. Such a deal and stay fresh a day after. If you're on the go and weren't able to pack your meal preps this place is great. The overall selection of choices is amazing from the proteins to the carbs and even sugar free sauces that they have, the service was great and the workers were very helpful. The only downside which isn't much is that the weights for proteins are in OZ with no grams, so it's not that bad unless you are bad with conversions from oz to grams like myself. read more

OBSESSED with this place. My sister has been coming here for years and I went to go pick up food for the week. I think we're all so used to meal prep being bland and boring. This place totally changes that! I love the chipotle-style bar that gives you the option of picking and choosing your meals. I was real overwhelmed but the owner Bryan gave me lots of tips for what I should get and was real patient with me. Everything I've had here from the meal prep section is great but I typically get salmon, chicken thigh, and turkey. I don't know how they cook their turkey but it's so fluffy and delicious. I always get the garlic noodles. I was able to try two of their hot meals. I got the bison burger (so good, my coworkers were so jealous) and then the luchador, which is a mexican style bowl. These were very very solid portions of food and I would highly recommend. I would also highly recommend the fit donuts they have in the fridge by check out. I don't know what goes into them but they are so delicious and have amazing macros. I'm willing to go out of my way and report this because the way the business owner treat customers who fell ill from their food is simply unacceptable. ----------------- Update 2: I think the real issue here is you never cared about us getting food poisoning from your food, nor do you choose to believe it. This is what differentiate you from 99% other legit businesses and is what's truly irritating. You mentioned that if we had reached out to you first you would have given us a refund, it's extremely confusing bc: 1. Margarita specifically told us "no refund" whatsoever, so what would have been the point of asking you for help? 2. You customers are getting what you were gonna offer anyways: We are getting our refund and it is because your food made us sick... So far I have had: The Bison Burger, Athena, Urbana Salad, Luchador, and the Warrior. I'm not going to explain in detail every single dish for that would take forever. What's important to know is that the food is healthy with less fat, sugar, and no preservatives whatsoever. It's a great place to get food if you want to eat clean, lose fat, get your gains, and get full! The Bison Burger is filling! NOTE: THEY DO NOT SKIMP OUT ON MEAT, VEGGIES OR CAULIFLOWER RICE. VERY GENEROUS PORTIONS! You will not be hungry afterwards. Also their dessert doughnuts are so good! No sugar! How is that possible? Definitely get these doughnuts that are high in protein. We used to live next to the owners in Fullerton when they were small and starting. It's been awesome to see them expand and grow to where they are now. My wife is currently undergoing chemotherapy at Breast Link next door and she's in need of healthy and clean food. Black Market Meal Prep is a store conveniently located in a little shopping center just around the corner from Choc/St. Joseph's hospital. The shopping center is super safe and with lots of parking. I say this because in our exploits to waste time outside the perimeter of the hospitals, the baby and I have found ourselves in perfectly fine areas that were surprisingly seedy. At any rate, we wandered into Black Market Meal Prep one day and discovered Protein Donuts. What are Protein Donuts you ask? They are heaven, shoved into a plastic box. Imagine a baked cake donut with a sweet frosting-like top and either a topping or a drip. They have all kinds of flavors at 1g or less of sugar and around 3.5 g of saturated fat. They are a MUST try. While I'm really only in it for the donuts, they do have an interesting meal prep service going on over there. They have a ton of protein that can be paired with various veggie/starches to make a meal. When we were last in there we saw many a people building their own meals for the week or just getting a single meal to go. They also do breakfast which looked super interesting to me. I'd love to try their protein pancakes. One of the workers mentioned you can order online and pick up after 24 hours; this seems like a good option as it takes a while to get checked out. This is a protein restaurant, juice bar, and meal prep, all rolled into one. I wouldn't say everything is low calorie, but definitely healthier than your typical place. It focuses on a good balance of protein, carb (mostly complex carbs), and veggies. I've only tried the meal prep so far, so my review is based solely on those items. Unlike some meal prep places, everything here is precooked so you don't have to cook anything yourself. You just have to reheat in the microwave. You can choose to freeze them if you are purchasing large amount at once. I just order the minimum five meals per order so I can finish them before expiration. They recommend you try to eat everything within a week. Every meal is labeled with the name, ingredients, and calories (which is a huge plus). Each pre-set meal comes with 5 oz. of protein, half cup of veggies, and half cup of carbs. Almost everything I tried were around 350-400 calories per meal. This can easily go up, however, if you customize your meal with additional items. I've only gone with pre-set meals so far. As far as taste, most of the items tasted like health food, but not necessarily in a bad way. There were few that were a bit dry or bland, but once I picked the right items, they were pretty tasty. Portions were more generous than I expected, but I still felt a bit hungry afterward. I kind of expected this since most of the items are light (low fat). Menu changes monthly so some of these items may no longer be available, but these are the items I liked so far: BBQ Braised Beef with fajita veggies and red potato Chipotle BBQ Chicken Thigh with fajita veggies and red potato Japanese Miso Salmon with green beans and wheat noodles Korean BBQ Beef with broccoli and wheat noodles Thai Curry Turkey with broccoli and white rice My main suggestion for this place is to cook the broccoli slightly. Ones that came with my meals were completely raw. They should at least steam them a little to get rid of some of the bitterness. In terms of price, I think it's reasonable. I did some online searches for other meal prep places and this one was the most affordable one I can find. It comes out to roughly $10 per pre-set meal. Some items like salmon and trip tip cost more. Meal prep needs to be ordered by Thursday 11:59 p.m. for delivery or pickup on Sunday or Monday. Delivery and pickup times depend on location. OC and LA delivery is Sunday between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. IE is Monday between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.. Delivery fee is $10-$15 depending on your location. You can also choose to pick up at one of five different locations but some of them require you to be a client/member to pick up at those locations. I've been coming here most days for the last 3 years or so. I'm on a first name basis with most all the staff as well as the two owners. I can't recommend Blackmarket enough. Now, I don't typically do set meal prep. I'm the type of person who forgets it's in the fridge and then tries not to think about how much money I inevitably waste when it needs to be thrown out. I work in the area, so it's super convenient for me to just walk in, build a meal, eat at the bar top and go about my day. If you're looking for a good place to get real food that isn't just processed garbage without having to pay restaurant prices this is the best. Is it CHEAP? No. However you'll likely end up spending about the same at most fast food places nearby, and you don't have to deal with the fast food guilt and feeling like a slob for the next couple hours. Is it an earth shattering culinary experience? No. However I always look forward to the sweet potatoes, and the Chili Lime Tri-Tip is pretty damn solid. The area it's in can be a little bit hectic being next to the hospital, but if you avoid peak lunch hour rush there's usually a few parking spots right up front for you. On the topic of service, I haven't had a single negative experience with an employee here, ever. There's been a couple times where I've had a weird sweet potato or something and I pointed it out, and they swapped it right away. The staff has always been super friendly, I've seen a number of employees come and go, and the owners have done an excellent job training them, and allowing them to operate without micromanagement, but most of all, just picking great people. It was a great portion and super satisfying. It is a small area and there was a steady amount of people coming in and out even though I was there for a late lunch. It is decently priced, but you have to take into account that this food is healthy and they def make sure you know what you are eating is not junk. The only thing that bummed me out about eating there the day I went was that it was super hot outside and inside was pretty warm. I was in the area for a doctor's appt but wanted a healthy lunch yet something different than a salad, etc. My case manager mentioned this place & so here I am. As soon as I walked in, I felt intimated by the array of items, but that quickly went away with the staff acknowledging me. They were so welcoming & eager to help with any questions, even though they looked crazy busy with meal prepping. The gentleman who seemed to be management of some sort was very aware & on top of everything (as were the other employees)... & everyone that just started to pile in. He separated the line to make everything more efficient & time restraint friendly. This spot is perfect for pre prep meals and on the go lunch while watching their macros. There's plenty of options to sub for low carb and vegan. I got the gladiator with a side of chimichurri sauce with cauliflower rice and it was delicious. My friend got the luchador with vegan beef and chimichurri sauce and the vegan beef tasted better than the real thing! I was a regular here when it opened back in 2015, I finally returned and food is still delicious. Menu and style of ordering was a bit overwhelming only because I wasn't expecting it but I ordered chili steak w/corn and sweet potatoes and it was really good!
