Yes their coffee is good, but I feel I've been ripped off! I ordered a large and a medium ice mojito coffee, but the barista ended up serving me both in medium size. When I reflected to the barista and showed him the label on both cups (which one clearly indicated large). Instead of remaking the coffee (my naive thinking), he took out a large cup, poured the medium size coffee into it, and then proceeded with adding more ice to the drink! And that was it! I was SHOCKED!!! I asked him if the size difference was just the amount of ice, he simply responded with a 'Yeap!' That was it! Argh, I even tipped the store when placing my order! How stupid of me! I didn't pay extra just to get extra ice!! Never again am I coming back. There are other good coffee places that deserve more attention! read more

This coffee is sooooo good! Best I've found in LA. My favorite drink there is the mint mojito iced coffee (and i don't even like mint). I could drink 3 large ones and still want more of that delicious combo of flavors and creaminess! I've tried a lot of their medium roast flavors. My personal favorite that i get a bag of is a mixed bag of half greater alarm with half hazelnut. You can't seem to go wrong here and the staff is nice and upbeat. I told her that it was my first time and she recommended the Tesora or the Philtered Soul. These are They both have the nutty flavors. Very difficult to make up my mind. Our friendly barista said "you can do 50/50" and that is exactly what I did. I ordered a small Tesora & Philtered Soul, med sweet & creamy for $ my hubby got a large Philtered Soul, sweet & creamy for $ when our drinks were ready, our barista called us back to the bar and she asked us to taste our coffee and if we needed to change things up to let her know. Ok. I admit it. The 'Bucks drive thru was jammed so I ventured to Philz on Brand. It was like a "stranger in a strange land" as I entered the groovy, minimalist store front without an idea as to how to proceed. I approached the counter with a lost look on my face, asking for help of the nice Barista. She directed me to a blend named Jacob's Wonderbar. (sorry i do not remember her name but i will get it next time). I proceeded down the line to check out the edibles where I spied something intriguing : Mediterranean Avocado Toast (among other savories and sweets). I ordered that and I'm glad I did for it was delicious:super well 'seasoned, fresh mashed avocado, fresh sour dough bread, beautifully hard boiled egg. The Seasonings i could recognize were: Zatar, Oregano, sage, salt, pepper. What was also nice was that the Avocado was fresh not processed and brought in refrigerated and the egg was perfectly boiled. If the egg were over boiled the yolk would be circled by a black ring . This was not the case here. Nice. The coffee was plummy, earthy, dark and deeply roasted but not burnt. This was a perfect choice for me. It was if the Barista reached into my soul and pulled this choice out. This Philz has been open for a few months so the bloom of good service might have wilted but i did not notice this at all. THE NICEST!! We ordered our drinks on the app, but accidentally ordered them to the wrong location. The workers at the location we accidentally drove to were SUPER nice and made the drinks for us there even though they were a minute over closing hours. As a long time fan of Philz, I was thrilled to see this newly expanded location in the Glendale area. The café has been open since September of last year, and it has quickly become one of my regular hangouts. The long, vertical interior has a modern and sunny disposition. The seating area includes a communal table for laptop users, followed by a small sofa area, and a long counter where each cup is made by the order. A small cup of coffee costs $3.50 and large for $4.50. Unlike other cafes, they don't charge extra for soy, almond milk, and other ingredients such as cardamom. They also sell prepackaged beans for $18 per pound. My usual is the Tesora, and according to the menu, it is a medium roast with dimensions of caramel, nuts, and butter flavors. I requested the drink to come with almond milk, brown sugar, and cardamom. The taste was creamy with a hint of brown sugar, but the cardamom was a bit heavy handed. The airy dimension to accompany the full-bodied finish was typically discernable, but this one was a bit flat, unlike the cup I usually get from Austin who had really perfected in making my Tesora at the Van Ness location. It was good but not great. Some of the cups here were very frothy and airy, a key characteristic of Philz coffee. However, I did have a few cups that came out flat, an obvious issue of care, technique, and detail. I must say, their Mint Mojito Iced Coffee was noticeably better than the one at the Mission and San Jose locations. It was good there, but the one here came with addictive wow factor to accompany the sweet, creamy, and the centrality of the minty flavor. Now I know to order the Mint Mojito whenever I come to this location. One of the baristas was very helpful in recommending the Swiss Water Peru. The stated cedar, earthy, and smoky flavors came with a medium-bodied finish. The balance of soy and honey was perfect. After trying so many other decaf coffees at various Philz locations, I think I finally discovered my perfect cup. Among their baked goods, my favorite was the Peanut Butter Sandwich ($3.50). The salty and sweet peanut butter were creamy delicious, and nicely sandwiched in-between two thick peanut cookies that crumbled at each bite. I thought their Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie ($2.75) had a decent chew, especially when served warm, but the chewy crispy dimensions could be more discernible; and the chocolate could be more widespread. Unfortunately, I did not like the Crispy Chocolate Chip Cookie ($2.75). I find the hard crispy texture one dimensional without any kind of crumble or chew to lead into the chocolate. In the afternoon the baristas would hand out free samples of pastries and cookies, a nice characteristic that I haven't seen previously in their other locations. Service was personable, but the degree to which I felt welcomed varied among the baristas. Interested visitors should enjoy their overall décor and the social vibe that comes along with it, but also expect a slight wait due to the line and the way each cup is customized. I also find a few of the baristas to lack knowledge about each bean, another issue I hope they will look to improve, especially since the baristas at the Mission and Van Ness locations are highly knowledgeable on a consistent basis. Despite these challenges, I still enjoy the Glendale location much more than the ones in North Berkeley and San Jose. Philz remains my favorite cafe, and I hope Phil Jaber will consider expanding his business into the Phoenix area. 4.5 stars for the overall experience. read more

This was my first time here. When I got there there were 4 people in front of me in line which isn't too bad. I literally waited 30 minutes to order. The system seemed so bizarre. There wasn't one person taking orders everyone was just making drinks and then randomly someone would take an order from a guest. When I'm looking for something warmer in the winter, I get the Soul Train with cinnamon in the filter. One of the baristas recommended it to me and I'm always happy with it! Was told by someone that this was the best coffee they ever had. When someone vouches that's it's the best coffee they ever had you naturally have to go and try it. I got the iced hot choclate cause it intrigued me, tasted like hot choclate and choclate milk fused together. First sip I was like wow this is great, I got it with medium amount of brown sugar. Towards the end I still had that same great taste. The other person I was with got the philtered soul (medium roast with hazelnut and choclate flavors) and they vouched that it was the best coffee they ever had. It was cool how they make the coffee right in front of you and even let you try it to adjust it. Even all the beans were right there in buckets for the workers to scoop out and make for you. Only negative is that we wanted to buy some coffee to take back home but they didnt have the flavor we wanted. All they really had was one flavor the New Manhattan. Parking around here is a nightmare, so that is why I knocked off one star. It's located right across from the Americana, next to Shake Shack. The coffee is made to order, so your barista will take your order and create your drink in one transaction. There are a ton of baristas at the counter, and everyone is pretty friendly. They are famous for their iced mint mojito coffee, which is sweet and minty and very refreshing. All of their drinks (even cold ones) are served in hot coffee cups, which to me is kind of weird, but oh well. FYI: They do not carry cold brew. They have iced coffee, but no cold brew. All of their coffee is sweetened as well. It's a great place for decadent, sweet drinks, but if you want no frills cold brew or regular coffee, go elsewhere. Let me just saw that I am an EXTREME coffee addict. I can't get enough of the stuff. When I first tried philz, I fell in love and don't go anywhere else for coffee. I always get philtered soul. It is amazing. However, I've been coming here for a year now and never had any problems until recently. 3 big problems: 1) They seem to put their new baristas on the floor with minimal training. I get it, they need to practice in order make great coffee but you need to make sure at least that they know the basic standards for a great cup of philz coffee. I had a bad experience with two new baristas that I don't know the names of (which is a different problem in its own that I'll talk more about). When I get coffee, I usually do mobile orders cause I don't have much time to wait in line. I had ordered a philtered soul sweet and creamy for my sister. When she tried it, it tasted more like a medium medium rather than sweet and creamy. Mind you, i confirmed this by tasting it. When we asked the barista to add more cream and sugar he proceeded by telling us to mention we'd like extra cream and sugar in the special instructions when ordering through mobile. Why is that when we never had this problem before? A couple days later I make another order through the app for myself (philtered soul iced medium medium plus). When I arrived to pick it up it was a new barista I've never seen. I took a sip of my coffee and it was not right at all. It was very bitter, so I asked her to add cream and sugar but yet it still didn't taste right. Similar to my last experience with my sister, she said I need to mention that I'd like sweet and creamy. All Baristas need to be on the same level of understanding as far as what is considered sweet and creamy, medium medium, and light cream and sugar, please. 2) baristas working the mobile orders don't tend to work under their own accounts. I wasn't able to catch the names of the two employees that gave me a hard time because of that. I called and spoke to Emily the manager and she took my complaints into consideration and offered free coffee next time which was nice of her. The reason why I'm leaving a 3 star review is because my latest experience was also bad. 3) so I went with my sister and my friend, we saw how long the line was so we decided to do a mobile order and walk around on brand. I LOVE PHILZ COFFEE. As a bay area native, it's pretty much in my blood :P I was so excited that this location opened up right by my new apartment! This is located right across the street from the Glendale Americana. No street parking in front, BUT there is a metered parking lot in the back with a back entrance to the shop as well. This location is long and narrow, with a few tables for seating both inside and outside. You order at the counter with one of the baristas, and then move over to the cash register to pay. It's a weird system, but it works. My go-to is the Ecstatic Iced Coffee, extra sweet, extra creamy. SO GOOD! I've converted a few people to this drink :) Highly recommend! Everyone who works here is super nice and friendly. And the baristas always ask you to try your drink and make sure it's just the way you want it before you leave. Though it's been a staple for many years, I finally very recently tried Philz and their extremely popular/famous mint mojito. I got it decaf and shared with my husband but unfortunately we were both up quite a bit that night making me think if it wasn't so decaf. Overall the drink, I LOVED. Creamy, cool, minty and it was just the right amount of sweet, not your Sbux PSL my mouth hurts sweet. The first time you're there I think it's a bit confusing the way you order and then pay and then pick up. They also had baklava (nod to Glendale?) which was pretty good but not the best I've ever had. There's not enough seating inside or out, also the one star off is for parking.
