After a wonderful lunch date with my wife at Raffi's Place (please read my review and thank me later) in Glendale, I decided to look for the perfect dessert. After scouting several nearby locations, I decided I was in the mood for a great cinnamon roll. Sweet Demi Lune Bakery & Café looked like the place that would deliver the experience I was seeking. SDLBC is listed as being in Glendale, but it's located in the historic Old Town of Montrose. That's beside the point; I only mention it because there are additional places to explore just up the street. We arrived around 3:00 p.m. on a Saturday, and there wasn't much of a selection left, including the highly sought-after cinnamon roll. The gentleman behind the counter greeted us warmly, and I immediately asked if that was all the pastries they had. He said yes. I contemplated leaving because of the nonexistent cinnamon roll, but I didn't want to be rude, so I decided to give the bakery a try since we were already there. So, we basically took half of what remained behind the glass display case: a Peach Almond Croissant, a Raspberry Pistachio Croissant, an Almond Croissant, and then my curiosity focused on a few lonely-looking pastries that were unfamiliar to my discerning eyes. I asked the gentleman what they were, and he replied with something that sounded completely foreign to me: Kouign-Amann. Kouign-Amann (pronounced queen ah-MAHN) is a traditional pastry from the region of Brittany, France. It is often considered one of the richest pastries in the world because it is made with just a few simple ingredients in generous proportions: bread dough, butter, and sugar. Figuring we needed a few more sweets for the road, we took all the remaining Kouign-Amanns. Two were the traditional version, and the other two were filled with crème and blueberry jam. We also ordered a Café Americano and a Café Mocha. While we waited for our drinks, I simply couldn't wait any longer. Like a kid on Christmas morning, I eagerly opened my gift and dug right into the Kouign-Amann. Hesitantly, I tore off a tiny piece with my fingers, expecting nothing extraordinary, and instantly gave birth to a brand-new experience that exploded in my mouth. The crisp exterior gave way to the soft, flaky center, followed by waves of what tasted like delicate honey. I tore off another piece and shared it with my wife. One look at her eyes told me she wanted more. By the time our drinks were ready, we had devoured one of the Kouign-Amanns and confessed to the gentleman behind the counter that we had just experienced pure ecstasy in the form of a pastry. Kouign-Amann is, in fact, one of the richest pastries in the world, so don't let the unfamiliar name keep you from trying one. The Café Americano and the Café Mocha were also exceptionally well prepared. With everything that's happening in the world these days, a simple yet profound experience like this reminded me how wonderful life can still be. Like Arnold said... "I'll be back." Enjoy! read more

I stopped off and had to have the chocolate mousse sponge cake. It's gluten-free and I will tell you they have a lot of really delicious things to try. The croissant selection is incredible. I love the indoor seating, but they also have outdoor seating. I washed it down with a short Americano, two shots and I threw in some extra cream. It's delicious. The coffee has a nice mild flavor, but nothing beats the sweets. I have to tell you this chocolate mousse cake is the right portion otherwise I would eat the whole thing in this case the powers that be more wise and gave me a slice and Man was it delicious. read more

I love Sweet Demi Lune and can't stop raving about it to my colleagues. Now that I'm working in the Montrose area, SDL is on my top three go to spots when on break. First, the pastries are yum and baked fresh daily. Second, the coffee is excellently crafted! DELICIOUS! I live a few minutes away from Downtown Montrose and saw on Yelp that they had kouign amann's so had to try this place! I stopped by yesterday after lunch and it wasn't crowded. They had plenty of pastries left and was relieved they had what I went for. I got the house kouign amann, the regular kouign amann, almond croissant, almond apple croissant and a chocolate swiss croissant that had custard. Everything was very good. It was tasty and the crisp on all of the pastries were just perfect. My daughter loved them. My husband and I are so happy that we found a new place close to our house with kouign amanns too! This café is a great spot if you want to sit outside and relax. The patio is comfortable, parking is easy, and the service was genuinely excellent. One thing I appreciated was that the restroom is located on the patio, which keeps the inside of the café quiet, cozy, and very relaxing. The drinks were just okay--not bad, but nothing memorable. Five stars to an Almond Croissant like no other. I love a good almond croissant so when I walked past Demi Lune and consulted Yelp, I found that the almond croissant had stellar reviews. Therefore I marched right in and ordered one. Super yummy alert! Crisp with a perfect shine and crackle. The bakery itself appears immaculate. Lots of light too. Really excellent pastries! The best tarts and flakey pastries in Montrose. Sad to see Montrose Shopping Park allow the opening of Paris Baguette so close by. In my experience, Demi Lune is way better quality but tucked away in comparison. I'm afraid the business driven away by Paris Baguette could be the end of them. Hands down my favorite bakery! Staff is always pleasant and helpful. The "house kouign amann" is a must try. Love the delicious custard with the perfect hint of citrus inside. I tried regular koiugn amann in Paris and was surprisingly disappointed. I didn't realize I had already had the best, right here in Montrose!!! Almond croissant and chocolate croissants are also very good here. They have nice boxes if you are picking up many pastries. The boxes and pastries are beautiful enough to gift to friends. Well, we couldn't find parking to our local favorite Beralina, so we thought we would try this new cafe. The shop has free parking in back and meter parking in front. It was very clean and had good seating inside and out. Inside was too hot so we opted to sit outside. We had a nice private seating area which was really nice. There wasn't anyone there when we arrived and only about four others who came after we arrived. Coffee was okay. Nothing to write home about. Ordered an americano and a drip coffee along with an apple croissant. Pricing wasn't bad. Small coffee was $3.65. I just think, if you only sell coffee and pastries, you should have a good amount to select from. Would not highly recommend because of the lack of selection. Lots of potential though. read more

This review is a coming a little later than I had wished but I can remember this place like it was yesterday. I arrived as it opened. The place smelled of fresh baked goods! Upon arrival I was greeted with warm smiles and was asked what I would like. I couldn't resist ordering a good variety as I enjoy fresh baked pastries. I asked about a few of them as they looked unique and fascinating to my eye. Every pastry was meticulously, hand crafted. It was obvious that attention to detail and finesse in crafting these goods was of utmost importance. Even when explaining about the few I asked about one could send the passion that the baker has. They have plenty of parking spaces in the back, there is also street parking available. Upon walking in What caught my eye first was cafe's brightness and how clean it was. The staff was truly sweet and welcoming and took the time to explain the different types coffee and pastries they have.
