I was really disappointed because I usually go to the Pho 79 on federal which is amazing but this one was terrible. Smelled bad inside like mildew or dirty towels. I ordered a plate of wontons and I only got 3 tiny little wontons which also didn't have very much filling. The other pho restraunt would have given us 6 for the same price I was confused! My pork vermicelli bowl was mainly rice noodles lettuce and pork which looked a little questionable. The pho my daughter got was delicious and the boba as well. Hannah's glowing review of this place made this the 5th store in this small piaza on the S side of 120th. I've hit POM, Pho Duy, a Chinese massage place and that dim sum place people rave about here. This place...well, it's being tempered by the massive headache I have right now, but this place probably has the best pho N of I-70 and west of I-25 that I've had to date. And since Pho 95 isn't going to be opening a new store in my neck of the woods anytime soon...this just became my new go-to place. Hannah's 1/18 review oretty much covers everything I wanted to say...the pho is amazing, HUGE portions of fresh veggies (I can say this, having gone twice in 4 days), basil, bean sprouts, jalapenos, you know the drill, pho lovers. The broth is *awesome*. SO GOOD! If you get it to go, they basically pack all the ingredients separately for you -- just so you know what to expect -- including the meats, so into the fridge if you're getting a huge order. *You've GOT to try the crepes here -- egg batter surrounds bean sprouts, sliced pork, and other tasty goodies*. Only order this if you're hungry or want leftovers -- these are not like, say, IHOP or Original Pancake House crepes. There is a more relaxed atmosphere here...and it's got a cozier, better decorated air, too -- than Pho Duy, less than 100 yds away. Pho Duy seems like people rush in and out; people seem to be more likely to hang out here. Whether it's a weekend day or a weekday at 8-9pm, the place will be moderately filled, but not so much you and your companions can't find a seat. I might not have stumbled in here for a while were it not for Hannah's awesome review...tipping the hat to you, H. Nice find. People will like it here if they go. (Oh...pho tendon is *slightly* inconsistent...1 order I had amazingly tender tendon, the next order was half tender and half tough/chewy/cartilagey, Bleh. That's an update for H.) Very good Pho at very reasonable price. If you plan on going for lunch, your best bet is to arrive a bit early, or quite a bit late. This is a real favorite. I have been here three times now and the whole experience is very consistent. The Pho is absolutely the best. The broth is extremely flavorful. The herbs, and vegetable garnishes are extremely fresh and flavorful as well. The meat is always very well handled and tender. Just packed with flavor. The ambiance is nothing special, but it is clean. They always have a tv playing and often old episodes of Friends are on. It is a nice place to slurp up your Pho and read the paper or chat with friends. It feels somewhat diner-ish in the fact that it is really laid back and comfortable. This last time, we also got the Vietnamese crepe which was excellent! It was packed with flavor and clearly made by an expert hand. This is our go to place for pho. The food is always great and the service is prompt and courteous. I guess we're regulars because they always confirm our order with us before we say anything. Look, the bottom line is that we work too many hours each week to want to cook on any day that doesn't begin with an 'S', and this place is just close enough and the pho is just good enough that when the question arises, "Should we cook dinner tonight?" the answer, more often than not, comes back: "No we should eat at Pho 79 IV instead." How much pho do we eat? I'm not sure that there is a widely accepted benchmark for pho consumption, but by any measure, it's safe to say that we eat too much pho. If this were based solely on broth, I'd give 4 stars. Flavorful, though lacking in anise. I had brisket and meatball, the latter was more rubbery than I am used to, the former both fattier and tougher. The veggie plate was rather sad, to be honest. Barely enough for my needs, but intended for 3 people. The veggies were all browning and wilted, the limes and jalapenos were dried and old. Service was adequate, no inordinate waits (save the waiter returning to take our order once our 3rd arrived. It did seem as though were were then invisible for several minutes). It wasn't overly crowded, once their initial little lunch rush passed. We were there at 12:30pm on a weekday with several tables free. Pho 79 is an ok option for pho if you are confined to the area, better than its neighbor "Pho Duy", but I personally will not return by choice. read more

Since I last reviewed this place, I've eaten a lot of pho. I have graduated from just getting rare steak in my pho to getting the works, from fat brisket to tendon to, most recently, tripe. Basically, I'm no longer a pho virgin, and I'm more confident in my analysis now when I say: this place rocks. The other night, a friend and I were going to go to a Japanese restaurant in Broomfield (I won't diss it or even name names because we didn't get to the point of tasting anything there) but when we saw the place, looked at the menu (which included a chicken and cheese maki... um), and smelled the aroma permeating the air, we actually changed our minds and got up from the table. We needed a nice warm comforting place where we'd feel at home and KNOW we would get great food. Where'd we choose? Pho 79. It's homey and friendly in there, the air thick with pho spices and with the sounds of slurping and laughing and football on the TV. We ordered a medium pho with pretty much everything, an order of banh xeo (Vietnamese crepes), and a jackfruit daiquiri. We all know about the pho already. It's good. Great deep broth, accompanied by fresh vegetables, stuffed with meats. The only bad thing I have to say about it is the tendon's nowhere near as tender as Pho 95's. But the rest of the meats are perfection. I'd never had the crepes before, and was kind of taken aback by how good (yet bizarre) they were. Pork and shrimp were baked into the crepe wrapping (rice flour and coconut milk), then green onions and bamboo stuffed in the middle. I had to guess about how to eat them (I like to think I'm good with chopsticks, but eating a large, delicate omelette-y thing with them is going a little far), but they were delicious! Their fried oily goodness mixed well with the healthy, wholesome pho. And the jackfruit daiquiri!!!!! I'm comfortable saying it's the best one EVER. Like someone liquefied 20 jackfruits at the peak of ripeness and then stuffed them all in my cup and topped it with whipped cream. Jackfruit is not and should not be a subtle flavor. It is weird and tangy and almost vegetably and knocks you upside the head. This daiquiri delivered the goods. I would drink one every day. With the chunks of fruit all over it, it's almost a meal. read more

When my friend told me that best pho was in Colorado, I was like "STFU, you lying mofo". I mean, I've had pho from the ghettos of Orange County (where there's a huge vietnamese community) to the even dirtier ghettos of San Jose (again with a huge vietnamese community). I'll be damned if the best pho is in f-ing Colorado. Now, ok... Pho 79 is not the best. BUT, it is DAMN good. I've had my share of pho throughout my life, and Pho 79 in Broomfield is definitely in my top 3. Very tasty, clean broth (not too oily) with very fresh ingredients. I got the pho with well-done brisket, flank steak, and tendon. I LOVED their tendon -- nice and soggy. The flank steak was a bit too tough for me... maybe if it was more tender, then this pho would've been perfect. I liked the fried egg rolls -- very good crisp -- but they were a bit too small. They did serve it with a big pile of vermicelli, which I think goes really well with each bite of egg roll. All in all, taste-wise, I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of Pho 79. It definitely can hold its own against the best of the best in San Jose or Westminster (in California). Applause for Colorado pho. read more

The food is very good. The service can be easy to complain about, but it's as good as you make it. Let me put it this way: Your meal will not be interrupted, but you will get attention if you ask for it. If you're the type to quietly sit and wait for someone to show up, they will leave you in peace. I actually thought I had been to this place before, but I was mistaken. It was Pho Duy that I had been to. Forgive me - there are like 5 pho places in throwing distance, here. The spring rolls are funny. Shimp&pork, fried, or vegetarian. We ordered vegetarian and got the shrimp&pork by accident. Not wanting to complain (and being perfectly happy with either), we just ate them. Apparently, they realized the error and brought out the correct rolls. We were almost done with the first order, but the guy insisted. Both orders were delicious. Though we did prefer the vegetarian... hah. The pho itself - and I speak as a layman... I'm this is my 2nd pho experience ever ... was good. I'm not a huge fan of the fatty meats, but it seems to be pretty standard. Everything tasted AMAZING. The veggies were super fresh and flavorful. After we finished eating, it was quite some time before I got impatient enough to flag a guy down for some take-home containers. He politely obliged. And after getting sick of waiting for our check, I just walked to the front counter. Oh, the guy knew exactly what we ordered. The bill was perfect. A few weeks back, after our positive experience at Pho 120 across the street, we decided to try Broomfield's Pho 79. After a quick walkthrough of the Pacific Ocean Marketplace (now I know where to find family packs of duck tongues!!!), we headed over to the sad end of this strip mall. A few years back, when this location was still a Chinese restaurant, I had been in there to pick up some takeout, and the exterior/interior was, how should I put this... unassuming (read: boring). The exterior hasn't changed, but don't let that fool you. The inside will take your breath away. First off, the foyer has a crude, but effective water feature with lots of greenery. Inside, however, you'll find yourself far away from the strip mall parking lot from whence you came. An actual taxi bicycle sits near the entrance. The interior is painted a lush red, and the owners have done a great job of masking the less-than-stellar view by camouflaging the front window with lots of bamboo stalks. Unfortunately, the decor was the only thing that knocked my socks off. Here's the breakdown: Pros: - Really nice interior design. - Terrific portions. - Delicious broth. - Pho condiments are fresh and plentiful. - The lemonade was yummy. - Everything was very, very clean. Cons: - The service thoroughly sucked. We made the cardinal sin of sending the waiter away after his first attempt to take our order. We saw three new tables come in, get seated, and have their orders taken before we were graced with our server's presence again. It wasn't that busy, and we did have a large party, so that bummed a bit. - As good as the broth was, the meat quality was pretty poor. SUPER fatty, for some of the cuts, to the point that it was kind of nasty. It was also the first time I've ordered tendon in my pho, so I don't know if this is normal, but it was pure jellified fat, and I couldn't eat it. So this was one experience. While the broth was not as tasty as others, the clarity was very good. The meat was very fresh, tender and tasty. The tendons were well done, as was the tripe. My steak was OK not amazing and the brisket was OK too. The waiter was missing for a while, which was annoying. I wanted more water! When I wanted to pay my bill and was not told to walk up and pay. A friend assured me that this is the best pho place in the area, despite the fact that there are several very good ones nearby. I have to say that I haven't had pho this good since Atlanta - and there were some damn good pho restaurants out there! I would go so far as to say that the food here is superior, with better selection, and lower prices than I am used to. Before you order, make sure you are really ready to eat! The portions are very large, and may take some people off guard. The vegetables are plentiful, the fresh herbs fragrant, and the meats fresh and high-quality. The broth is a little heavier than I am used to, but very good, and is served hot enough to cook the meat ingredients properly. Stopped in here twice in one week while my parents were visiting. (They're from San Antonio and don't live near any Vietnamese places.) I have also stopped in for a girls' night a few months ago. The food is good, and apparently everyone knows it because it's also very busy. I've tried the noodle bowls, summer rolls, boba, and pho. They're all equally tasty. Their homemade fish sauce isn't very fishy, but if you add some of the bottled fish sauce on the table, it adds a little extra salty fishiness. My issue with this place is the service. Neither of our servers wrote anything down. This is fine, if you have a fantastic memory and can remember all the orders correctly. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Both times we went in the last week, at least one of our orders was wrong (or omitted completely). One of the times he forgot our appetizer completely and brought me the wrong flavor of boba, and the 2nd time, they got my dad's order wrong. Not a huge deal, but something to work on. read more

My boyfriend and I were craving pho, so we went to the Broomfield epicenter of pho and went to 120th and Main. There's like, 6 pho places in one square block. So we decided on Pho 79 because a co-worker recommended. We ordered the spring rolls, which in my opinion, were just ok. The rice noodles in the rolls were really sticky, literally sticking to the top of my mouth. Even dipping them in the peanut sauce didn't really help. I don't get what the big deal is about them, am I missing something???? I went with the large medium flank and rare beef combo. My boyfriend had the combo bowl. Both our bowls had tendon AND tripe in them, which was disturbing. I have never liked tripe or even just seeing it makes me gag. It was not pleasant trying to fish the tendon and the tripe out of my soup. I shouldn't have to do that if I DIDN'T order that! I would say the pho was just okay. I would normally finish the soup, and didn't this time. It just seemed like it was pretty run on the mill pho. Also, when I asked the guy up front when we were paying our bill about why we both got tripe and tendon in our soup, he immediately said "Well you ordered the wrong one then". This was my first time trying pho, and I was highly satisfied. I ordered a number 15 and my food came out quickly after ordering. It was super yummy! This is the first pho restaurant I tried in CO, and it's by far the best! I've tried all 3 locations and they're all pretty consistent, and services are usually quick. I'm originally from CA and the pho restaurants there offer a lot more variety of pho dishes, but Pho 79's pho in general is good enough. We always eat here if we want good pho especially on a cold, raining, and/or snowy day. Food, service, atmosphere, cleanliness, and price are all good so they get 5 stars from me. read more

After reading about this place winning a pho review round-up in a local publication, we decided to veer from our old standby, Pho Duy, to give it a shot. We had a pleasant first experience. Since then, I have to echo some fellow reviewers who had a negative experience. On a cold 20-some degree weather day, we were all craving hot bowls of soup. We were totally let down. Issue #1: Shitty service -- you have to wave someone down to get anything and even when you ask, they don't remember. My young son hasn't yet mastered chopsticks, so we had to ask twice for a fork. Also, the servers were all watching football on the TV (which I find inappropriate and annoying in a non-sports bar environment anyway) or on their phones. Not cool. Issue #2: Lukewarm broth. Typically, when I order rare meat, the broth is so hot, it instantly cooks the thin slices of rare meat. My rare meat didn't really cook, it just sat. Edit: Issue #2a: Gross meat. I practically had to tear at it w/ my hands to eat it, my teeth were not able to handle it. Also, some cuts of meat had gristly, hard rinds surrounding them? WTF? If it were fat, that'd be okay, but it was not! YUCK. Issue #3: The small bowl at Pho Duy is very satisfying for me, portion-wise. The small bowl here is tiny and has very few noodles. Issue #4: Inaccurate orders. My bro-in-law requested a # whatever w/o tripe and tendon and of course, he got the tripe and tendon. Also, why do pho places always have all these random combos of meats, but never the combo you want? Why can't it just be like a pizza place where you pay for the # of toppings you get? I know a few places like that in WA state, but it's never as cost-efficient as getting the weird combos. Won't be returning. read more
