I was going to go today and the doors were opened but it looked closed let alone abandoned because it looked unkept. The energy felt eerie and I never went in. This place should be called Phogazzi, pho restaurant but not authentic. If you ever walk in a pho place, and it has imitation crab in their pho RUN!!!!!! Does not have Vietnamese people, does not have viet music, get your behind out otherwise you'll spend $75 like I did today and be disappointed. One of the blandest pho I've ever had. The broth had a light brown color and looked good but it tasted plain. I felt like it was missing some fish sauce or other ingredients in the broth. I'm going to be honest, I was very excited to try this place. I just moved here from Wa state and took a friend here for a birthday dinner. She wanted Chinese food, but there weren't any places open so I suggested Vietnamese because it's my favorite Asian cuisine. Unfortunately, it was not good. The food was not good at all. The "sweet and sour" sauce tasted like sugary ketchup. The chow mein and fried rice had no flavor. I had to add so many sauces to it to make it edible. Even sriracha didn't help much. Even the eggrolls weren't good. I felt really bad that I had brought my friend to this place because she doesn't have much experience with ethnic food and this was definitely not the experience I wanted to give her. I can't tell you how happy me and my husband are that they have opened a Thai place in Tulare and that its GREAT! The place is nice and clean and our server was very nice and made good recommendations. I had the Pad Thai and it was so flavorful and a perfect portion. My husband had the beef Pho which he really liked and barely finished the Medium portion and he's not one to eat on the light side so I would say it's a hearty portion! We both shared chicken Spring Rolls which were very fresh and big for the price of 5$. The best part was having the owner be so attentive wanting our opinions on her food, telling us about her preparations and willing to take criticism to please us if there was something we didn't like, which we didn't because we loved the food. She told us the menu is a little small but plans on expanding once they get a little more settled since this is a new place! None of the diners were Asians. A glance at the picture menu confirms my suspicion because the Pho looked bland and unappetizing. The spring rolls were okay, my white girlfriend could do better. The rolls came with shrimp and ham it says but I'm not sure the piece of white meat was ham at all, at least not the kind of ham a Vietnamese chef would choose to put in the spring rolls. After venturing into this hidden gem, I was immediately greeted and seated by my wonderfully attentive and friendly waitress. I immediately ordered the spring roll appetizer and drinks, both of which were promptly delivered to the table. The spring rolls with peanut sauce and sri racha are a force to be reckoned with! I love this place and have been loyal customers for quite sometime now. The staff know us the second we walk in and always greet us with a warm welcome. To make it even better, they know my order by heart, which is a nice touch. My wife and I always get the following: a large #3 to share, springs rolls and fried calamari. Everything is delicious! Soup is plentiful with amazing flavors and perfect amounts of meat, the rolls are decent sized with delicious dipping sauces (We get both the sweet chili and peanut dips) and the calamari is my favorite! I love pho. In my life I have consumed enough pho to fill a swimming pool. When I found that there was a pho place in Tulare, I had to try it out. First, let's start with the name of the restaurant PHO 99, noodle house. It is far far far away from being a noodle house or a pho restaurant. Most places that advertise pho or noodles have them. In this case they are really a Chinese food place 1st, and a noodle house or pho place in a very distant 7th or 10th place. You have three choices of pho, chicken, beef, and fish. I tried the most common at pho restaurants which was beef, which comes with meat balls, round, brisket, and tripe. ... tripe by the way is not common, that is a Mexican food thing. Upon first impressions the broth didn't look right. It had no color, no aroma, and almost no flavor. Now let's talk about the meat. Pho is served hot, so hot in fact that it is designed to be able to cook thinly sliced raw meat as it is being served. In this case the meat was clearly cooked prior and then placed into the broth to warm up. Based on the flavor of the meat I would guess it was cooked, frozen and thawed too. My bowl contained mostly fat. It was gross. Now let's talk noodles. They were not prepared correctly. They were short, chopped and for people like myself that use chopsticks, you couldn't roll them. Even the veggies were pitiful giving pretty much only bean sprouts and jalapeños. I posted pictures. I would like to add that everyone around me having Chinese food seemed to really enjoy it. The food was okay, I did find myself reaching for the salt which I normally do not do. Restaurant was empty which is always a red flag to me. The dishes were a bit too expensive for this type of dish. I ordered salt n pepper shrimp (which were a little soggy) and I usually purchase this type of plate at other places for $3-4 less but have awesome flavor. Also wasn't a fan of paying for a cup of water. If I would have known this I would have just gotten a fountain drink or not ordered a beverage at all. I LOVE the Pho Ga (chicken soup) here. I drive the distance to go there, when I am craving delicious Pho. I have tried other places, but they do not compare. Every time I have gone (and I've been many times), the flavor never disappoints.
