I'm a Vietnamese just coming from Vietnam, and you gotta trust me, if you want a taste of Vietnam, don't come here. Pho: you'll get better and fuller mouthful of meats, broth, and noodles from Pho Eatery. I'll give this 4/10. Grill: unflavored. Everything is unflavored. From the meat to the rolls and the most important thing for Vietnamese food: the sauce. Oh my, I have never taste anything as tasteless as this. Maybe I'm from Vietnam and the way we season back there is too strong compared to here, but this is the truth: if you want mediocre food, here is fine. If you really wanna know how Vietnamese food tastes like: either go to Vietnam or try another restaurant, maybe those in Eden. Service never bothers me if the food is good. I find some of the other reviews to be hilarious. Giving the restaurant 1 star because you don't like Pho to begin with. Giving it 1 star because you have to order at the counter. Let's get to reviewing the actual food: 1) This is by far the best Pho you will find in this area without heading down to VA and hitting one of those holes in the wall at Eden Center. Even then, that's a pot-shot because not every Pho place is made equal. 2) Compared to Pho places in the area like Pho Nam (which HAS to use MSG because you'll be drinking gallons of water after finishing there) or Pho 75 (which has to be powdered, because natural Pho broth looks NOTHING like that), Pho & Grille has the most authentic looking and tasting broth. 3) Compared to other Pho places, P&G doesn't skimp on the meat. I literally went to this Pho place on Muddy Branch and they gave me two slices of meat. TWO SLICES! Travesty... P&G, again simply makes the best Pho in this area, especially since Pho Song Long closed up near Yurakus. 4) The service is not that bad. I order from them ALL the time. Maybe it's because I'm Viet, but they've been nothing but nice to me. I routinely order their Cha Gio (crispy spring rolls) when we have potlucks and I need to bring something. 10-15 mins, and it's hot and piping with a large container of nuoc mam too boot! 5) Did I say it's probably the most authentic Pho I've had? I mean nothing comes close to my mom's Pho or even the Pho I can cook, but this is Pho you have to have unless you're willing to slave over a stove, stewing the broth over 18-24 hours! P.S. I love this Pho place that's just right down the street from my house. They have really good sandwiches also. You won't be disappointed if you are in the mood for Pho. Their meat are always fresh and thinly sliced. The staff are quick and friendly. It's a really nice lil homey place. The food here pretty good for MD. They do cater more to the American taste but it's close to home. Try the grilled pork rolls they are light because they aren't fried and the filling is flavorful. Pho is tasty. They don't use msg so you don't feel like you have cotton mouth after your meal. Service is always fast and friendly. Its a nice little neighborhood spot for a quick meal. read more

I was so happy when I saw Pho & Grill had opened up since it was close to where I live. After hearing rave reviews, one of my girlfriends and I decided to try it out this past Sunday. The atmosphere was great! I especially loved the photography on the walls and the decor is very inviting and clean. We ordered at the counter and food delivery was prompt. Here's where it went a little sour for me. I ordered the goi cuon (summer rolls) and although it was good (fresh ingredients and great peanut sauce), it didn't have the pork in it. Being Vietnamese, this was a little disappointing for me. I realize everyone has their own way of making it, but pork is one of the staple ingredients in those rolls. It's like having pho without the meat. Sure it can be done and it'll still taste good, but it's just not the same. Speaking of pho, I do like the fact that you can customize it, all the side items (sprouts, basil, limes, etc...) were very fresh and they definitely do not skimp on the meat there. The broth however, was OK for me. It just wasn't as rich and hearty as I was expecting it to be, but it's very possible that the batch of broth they were using at the time, didn't get to simmer as long as it could have. All in all, I will go back to Pho & Grill since there are other items on the menu I haven't tried yet. I can't wait to sample their nem nuong, which is something I haven't had since my teenage summer vacation years in Orange County, CA. I am going to try the pho again but as far as my goi cuon is concerned, I'll stick to Pho Song Long in Germantown. read more

She came here with two little boys one is two year-old and the other is four year-old a few months ago. THERE WAS A WAITER ASKED SANDY PLEASE BRING THE BOYS TO LEAVE THE RESTAURANT BECAUSE THEY WERE CRYING. Is there any mother will leave your kids outside the restaurant and continue eating??????? Pleasantly surprised by this restaurant! Very clean and nicely decorated. The staff was quite cordial. Food came out super fast which was good for us since we were really hungry but others might consider the pace a bit rushed since our appetizers came out three or four minutes before our main course. Either way, the classic spring rolls were delicious! Fresh, crunchy, not overly oily. I had the veggie pho and while I wish the broth had a bit more flavor, it was still good. The Grill part is tasty, but you need the broth to be absorbed by the rice noodles -- else it's a bit dry. Order broth options. The limeade drink was nicely tart and yet sweet as well. Good amount of CO2 to give it more bite. Restroom is very clean. Only neg: you order your own food, then sit and wait for it to be delivered to your table. The receipt comes with recommended tip amounts. It gives 3 values: 15%, 18% and 20%. I was always taught that a place where you order yourself does not get tips that start at 15%. We went here for dinner last night. Every time I come here, I try to keep an open mind because I want to like the food here, but the food is average. The goi cuon (which the establishment calls 'Summer rolls') are very underwhelming. There is no fresh basil or mint to brighten up the rolls. The ratio of lettuce to other fillings unbalanced, so you feel as though you are consuming a lettuce wrap. The peanut sauce is off as well. I stayed away from the pho because in my previous experience, the broth is very flat and doesn't have the full complexity of authentic pho broth. My boyfriend ordered pho last evening and when I tasted it, I felt affirmed in foregoing it. I ordered the lemon grass pork and shrimp rice dish. The pork was overly sweet and there was just a hint of lemon grass. The shrimp was actually ok. Overall, the food here is average. It would probably taste ok to you if you're not familiar with Vietnamese cuisine. However, for those of you who love Viet food, this place isn't the best that local restaurants have to offer. A drive to Pho Nom Nom in Rockville or Pho Hiep Ho in Silver Spring is worth the drive! read more

Such a cute place! I've been here 3 times now and it's awesome! The pho is so authentic, the service is fast and it's a definite favorite during lunch time! This is by far my favorite pho place! It's a very nice atmosphere inside. Cozy but also very open. You can sit down and chat with friends and coworkers. The music is also softer than most restaurants. It has been a while since I had a good ban mi. So I found this place on Yelp. The restaurant looked modern and nice. The menu was limited, but had the main highlights. I orders the dac biet (special) ban mi and their "famous" pork spring rolls. Disappointingly the sandwich was not that good. The bread tasted stale and not crunchy. The pickled veggies had little flavor. Overall the ban mi lacks the flavor and textures you expect. Their famous spring rolls? Well I can not say on that. They gave me egg rolls instead of spring rolls. The egg rolls were decent, but the fish sauce was not that great. Caveat: I only had the bun bo hue, and this is mainly a pho place. In fact, the bun bo hue was still advertised as a new item on their door when I ate here. The cashier/server was very nice, and they let me pay by credit card even though my order was $9.95 before tax ($10 minimum on the sign posted). The dish was alright and lived up to my expectations (though my expectations were not exactly high). However, I did think the broth was too sweet and oily, and should've been much spicier. It is how you'd expect bun bo hue to taste though. The noodles were cooked well and not soggy, but I was disappointed it only came with beef (probably the same kind they use in the pho :( ) and cha lua. There was some tendon, but BARELY any. I'm also used to bun bo hue with pig knuckles and cubes of blood, but I guess those are hard sells to the American palate. Final gripe is that they provided shredded lettuce instead of cabbage as garnish. It's traditionally served with shredded red or purple cabbage, which is crunchier and holds up better in the broth. This would be an easy fix. Overall, they tried and it's not a terrible option for bun bo hue if you've never had it before and are nearby, but it is seriously Americanized. Somewhat pricy at $10 a bowl, but the serving is large and should fill you up. I might come back for the pho since the service was good! read more

I really am happy to see this lovely cafe in my neighborhood! Between the large Vietnamese communities in Hawaii and SoCal I have developed a strong affinity to the delicate prep and melding of subtle flavors of traditional cooking. Please, learn how to properly pronounce PHO, when you are ready to order, simply ask your server. It reminds of all the folks that order GY-RO instead of the correct, 'yee-roh'. The grill is a lovely change for an outdated strip mall. It has contemporary lighting, seating and a pleasant staff. The grilled items are a standout! The rolls are a bit weak and could use some additional effort. Finally, the menu is cursedly limited. Perhaps, to stay afloat they will end up offering some type of lunch buffet. So disappointing... This was one of my favorite Pho spots and they have seriously gone down hill... The Pho didn't even taste like Pho. It tastes like a salty broth of some sorts with minimal noodles and old sprouts. Nothing looked fresh. I like coming to this Pho place mainly because the Pho is pretty decent for it's price, they have Thai Iced Tea, and they're the only Pho place I know of that's open until at least 9pm. I also like to get bubble tea, but it's a hit and miss sometimes. If you go there when they're almost closed, the bubbles are definitely cold and hard, so I wouldn't just skip the bubbles. The Pho is, like I said earlier, pretty decent for it's price, but not extra phenomenal. I did notice, though, that the framed decor are pictures of Pho ingredients, which I thought was cute. So, if you're looking for some Pho after all of the other ones in the area are already closed, come out to this one. read more

Came here just to comment on what this establishment has seem to become. I've been coming here for lunch for over 3 years now and let me say first that the food is great and always consistently delicious. The owners created a great restaurant that had probably the best service you could find at a Pho restaurant. I say "had" because 2-3 years ago it seemed that the owners would be in more often meaning they had the place in check and they slowly started to disappear from being at their restaurant. I rarely come to this location anymore as I now live in Olney but luckily for me they have a location up there as well. I came back to this location for lunch as I was in the area and my oh my this place has changed. The food is the same. Same as 3 years ago, same as the Olney location. Service and quality of their staff? Pretty much gone. I do know that their servers usually compose of different people in terms of the lunch shift versus the dinner shift so I apologize ahead of time to the dinner shift if they happen to be reading this. But from my experience with the lunch staff that morning, it seems be run by a rowdy, unprofessional, and distracted high-schoolers. I say this because although I was tended to when I needed something, during my meal I could see the staff of 4 lolly gagging in the back area of the restaurant. A lot of loud laughter and horse-play that just seemed unprofessional. But the kicker? I happened to notice one of the servers smoking back there. Really, smoking INSIDE a restaurant. Whether it be an e-cigarette or even worse a real cigarette or whatever it may be, thats terrible to see. I write this review hoping that the owner sees this. I don't know how to keep in touch with them but they had a great place and its a shame to see this happening under their chin. Don't let this review keep you away from eating here though. This is prob the worst Viet place I've ever been too. Bun Thit Nuong (grilled lemon grass pork) is not authentic! They use skewed meats and if they are real meats or mixed with flour. My Vermicelli noodles were so hard and undercooked- tried to put up with it and couldnt so has to ask to remake. There're better Viet places in town so dont waste your money here. This is my go to pho place in the gaithersburg area. Great selections and great service. I would normally get the Pho Ga, I am glad in this location you can choose the size versus other places they only have large size. This time around I ordered the lemon chicken with rice and asked for spring rolls with it. The dish itself is good but plain. Needed a little kick to it so asked for peanut sauce and used siracha. Like most pho restaurants you pay first in the front and then get your seats. There is a $10 credit card min. I usually don't carry cash so I would mostly have to order a drink with my dish to meet the minimum. Overall the pho has great flavor. read more

The pho is about a $1 more expensive than the hole in the wall places but I think the pho is pretty good. I thought the broth was flavorful and while the meat was a little less than what I was hoping, it wasn't bad. Ah, the Pho and Grill... comfort food!! Located near the trader Joes.... So as a regular, I always get the #4 small. There's nothing to take home after this order and soup is almost gone too... I like the flavor and the meats. It could be a little better quality, but for me this place is just convenient to go to. Its near Lakeforest mall and the hmart is around the corner... so this is perfectly situated. The rolls are of sauces good and well rolled. Plenty of sauces on the tables. We're told by the server that their not taking orders even though there's still 14 minutes before closing. We made it clear what we came here for (the Banh Mi Cao Lau sandwiches!) but we're still told the kitchen was closed.
