Saigon Bistro is a top Yelp recommendation with many great reviews as well as being very close to where I live. Let me start by saying that the Pho was good and a good value. Nothing exceptional but good quality, good food And a fair amount of steak in mine for $16. I wish I could say the same about the service or lack there of provided by the two young female servers. For starters, they have zero communication skills. They drop things at the table and just stand there without a word. I did not receive the Vietnamese coffee that I ordered until I asked for it nor was I asked whether or not I wanted it with whipped cream - there's was no description on the menu so I wasn't aware it came with whipped cream. When we placed our order we asked for extra cilantro and received no cilantro at all. Once the runner delivered our food no one came over to ask how everything had turned out, if we needed anything else etc. The lack of communication, lack of attention to detail and quite frankly complete lack of personality turned a pleasant afternoon meal into a disappointment. It's a shame because I saw several other things on the menu that I'd like to try but I'm not interested in being in that unpleasant atmosphere again read more

The crispy eggroll (cha gio) was crispy and looks to be double fried, leading to a really crunchy outside. Good amount of filling on the inside and the fish sauce is sweet and tangy. The Chilean sea bass was super crispy with a thick crust on the top. The glass noodles looked a bit on the thin side and tasted more like vermicelli. Lovely scallions on top. The bone in short rib was filled with noodle and a good amount of meat. The broth was a bit too salty and didn't have as much meat flavor on it though. Still, it was very filling! I've been coming to this place since it was called "Phorever". Under the new name Saigon Bistro, this place has become a spectacle , the inside is much more beautiful than it previously was. Wait a shame that this place has gone downhill since I have last been here over a year ago... the waiter we had was very friendly and the fried tofu appetizer wasn't bad. However, it took over half an hour just for the chicken glass noodle soup to come out. The soup was so bland that I had to add multiple spoons of chili sauce to give it some type of flavor. The chicken was also very dry and overcooked. The booth seats are also very loose so if you lean back at all it will move the other customers and vice versa with them bumping you back... My friend also thought her pho wasn't good at all. Just take a look around at the main demographic dining there which are mostly non-Asians. We had to move booths because the guy behind my seat kept butting his bench seat against my back. Staff always checked on us and food was delivered quickly. One of the better Vietnamese places in the area. All the food here tastes pretty authentic and I haven't found something that I don't like. My favorite dishes are the shrimp lotus flower salad, Bo ne, and the pho is also pretty good. Service is pretty quick here too and as someone with a peanut allergy they are always very cognizant of removing peanuts from my dishes. Finally got to go to Saigon Bistro in Sterling and I was not disappointed. May as well say it, if you're going to measure up a Vietnamese restaurant you have to start with the Pho. Damn it is great. My son and I "built our own" and it was amazing. Keep in mind I've been eating Pho and Vietnamese in general for more than three decades. This is the best I've ever had. The service is impressive it seems to be several younger guys who look more like owners watching over their business than waiters. I was able to take a picture of the two rice platters I got, but not the pho and chicken noodle soup. Beef ribs platter: Ribs had a good amount of meat on them - Very good. Fish sauce is wonderful. Choose your own platter: Meat #1: Pork Chop. Meat #2: Shrimp Skewer. Meat #3: Sausage. Good portion. Pork chop was the best Vietnamese pork chop I've had in my life. Super tender and flavorful. Shrimp skewer was good, but FYI it wasn't on a skewer. Sausage was decent - I'm not a big sausage person, but my boyfriend picked this one and he really liked it. House Special Pho: Delicious. A tad salty where you probably can't drink the broth on its own but it had one of the strongest beefy flavors. Chicken Noodle Soup: This one was delicious as well BUT it was lacking in meat. I received very little for $17 and the shredded meat I did get was just OK. If bigger pieces of chicken were in here, it would be perfect! I will gladly glom on to all the glowing reviews of Saigon Bistro with a 4 STAR rating for my first visit (a to-go order)...reserving the extra 1 star for future visits. Rarely do I give 5 stars right off the bat on a first visit - the place has to be extra special in all respects to get that (feel free to read my 5 star reviews!). In this case, I was dining solo for dinner and decided to go carryout and had a hankerin' for Vietnamese. What did I do? I turned to my trusty guide, Yelp - and found Saigon Bistro close by (right on my route home) with over 70 reviews showing an overall 5 star rating - SOLD. (Also I am always game for adding new high quality places to my repertoire.) I perused their menu (I like perusing a recent pic of the menu on Yelp vs an online menu which could have deceptively elevated delivery prices), checked out the prices and food pics and decided on a single to go item - their Classic (Grilled Meat) Rice Platter $18. I thought about adding an order of spring rolls but asked how much and was told $8 which I felt was overpriced so just went with the rice platter. I came to pick up my order (it was around 6:30PM) - the place is in the Community Plaza in Sterling off Rt 7 near Dranesville Rd - in same plaza as Joann's, Party City (that may not be there long since it announced its bankruptcy), Lidl and Burlington Coat Factory. The place is small inside. Clean but reallly basic and not very invitingly or impressively decorated tbh. The lighting is very harsh at night (bright vs warm white lighting), the tile flooring gives the place an overall cold vibe and the decor is uninspiring. I wish they would have made the inside more inviting and cozy. It's fine for what it is and if you don't care about ambiance and care more about the food, then all good. Generally I'm not a big fan of carryout for Vietnamese because it's so easy to mess up carryout Vietnamese dishes specifically but I took a chance and I have to say that my dish was EXTREMELY WELL PACKAGED. Impressive, truly. (Check out my pics and vid!) Food taste? EXCELLENT. Really good. I got the Classic Rice Platter which had rice (duh), pork chop which had a decent amount of meat on the bone and was grilled to perfection - not tough but tender lean and full of flavor, shredded pork and a meat cake served with a refreshing side salad and sauce on the side. Portion size was decent, price was a tad on the high side but willing to pay a bit more for the higher food quality. (FYI - difference between Saigon Rice Platter (vs Classic Rice Platter which I got) is a shrimp cake added but for the extra $3 not worth the higher price imo.) Service was pleasant and friendly. Easy in and out with loads of lot parking. I was told this place opened in Feb (2024). The place is a bit hidden in the plaza so I hope they do well - the high ratings and good reviews hopefully will help. I cannot rave enough about Saigon Bistro. Every time I come here and try something new, I'm more and more grateful that this restaurant is here. Every meal I've had is delicious and reminds me of my mom's home cooking. From the crab noodle soup to the rice vermicelli bowl, the flavor is delicious and portions are plentiful. My main complaint about Vietnamese restaurants in the nova area is that it's always pho and only pho. Vietnamese cuisine has so much to offer and has multitude of varieties of dishes. As someone who grew up in Southern California--where Vietnamese food is practically a staple--I can say with confidence that Saigon Bistro is one of the most delicious Vietnamese spots I've ever had, and hands down the best I've found here in Northern Virginia.
