Walked in and the lady assist us was friendly and explained the portion sizes to us. Ordered P1 , chicken dumplings, and egg rolls. Our food came out within minutes. My son, a picky eating 4 year old, loves the steamed dumplings. My 2 year old drank the broth by the large spoonful. The meat was thin and tasty, and the broth was rich and delectable . I've ordered several times from this place and it's been great food no complaints, until today. The egg drop soup tastes off. They've added some type of bits of meat inside, which gives it a different flavor to the soup. I'm not a fan of it. Also, the spring rolls are always good. However, the rice paper wrapper is sticky and thinner, meaning the filling spills out when picking up. Those are the only downsides so far. I'm doing a surfing roadtrip and my first stop is Corpus Christi. I tried this place yesterday and had to come back again today before I leave town. This place is good. The BEST pho I've had. I'm from Orange County, CA, home of the largest Vietnamese community outside Vietnam. The Pho broth is rich and delicious. My only gripe is it didn't have more of the exotic cuts of meat. The large P5 is so big, I couldn't finish it. They sure make them big in Texas. I devoured half of the bowl so it would be rude to show a half eaten meal. This location is a lot better than the other locations of Hu Dat. The meat and noodles taste fresher here. The staff is also very friendly with the customers. I think maybe the other locations have a lot of turnover and are just unhappy because they don't seem to interact much with the customers. All about customer service and great food, right? Was in Corpus recently for a family thing and came here on my sister's recommendation for lunch with Mom, sister and niece. We walked in and there was a good crowd in there for lunch, we were greeted and walked in to check out the menu. This is kind of a self service counter in as far as you seat yourself, walk up to the counter to order and get your own drink and silverware. The place was clean and bright and the staff seemed friendly enough. We ordered and received our eggrolls (you have to order separately they are not included in the lunch plates) right away. We also got our plates pretty quickly too. The servings our very generous too! I got the Hunan special which included your choice of meat and level of spice. Either mild or spicy, I ordered spicy and it was really good, but I could have taken more heat. Like I said the serving was very generous with chicken, zucchini squash, broccoli, mushrooms and carrots. It came with your choice of rice, but I paid a dollar extra to get the lo mein which came on a separate place. It was good, but I'm used to my lo mein being a little bit of a thicker noodle with a bite to it. Overall, I was very pleased with my lunch as was everyone else at our table. I'm usually very forgiving, but I want my money and time back. It started with a menu that prominently displayed "no refunds if you change your mind" printed at the bottom of every page. Ok...why the need for this? Soon I would discover why. We came in with high hopes. Boy o boy, did we change our minds. First, the young man who served us was hard working and pleasant. It went downhill from there. We ordered hot jasmine tea; $1.99 each. One cup of water not warm enough to wash my hands, let alone steep the tea bag. No flavor was extracted and we both left it unfinished. I ordered the rice plate with chicken and shrimp. Delivered five minutes before my wife's vegetable lo mein dish. Two medium shrimp obviously frozen, thawed and cooked then draped listlessly over the chunks of chicken. The chicken was fairly well prepared in that while the outside was a bit dry, the inside was fairly moist. On my dish, spice on the chicken was almost completely absent, but the sheer horror of the shrimp made it taste almost palatable in comparison. The pickled cabbage and carrot were the saving grace. They were lightly pickled with a pleasant balance of vinegar tartness, pepper spice with just the right hint of sweetness. My wife's dish, the vegetable lo mein, arrived steaming hot and with a large portion. However, large portion sizes could not save this flavorless mass of noodles and not-very-fresh vegetables. Two small bites and she asked for a take out box so as not to embarrass the young waiter. Checking out was almost as painful as the meal. Trying to pay/flee took a surprisingly long time. The gentleman manning the register continued taking phone calls and take out orders (I wanted to yell warnings to the unwary on the phone) while I stood there, card and check in hand. The employee never said one word or gesture to reassure me that I would eventually be released. No "I'll be right with you" etc. Three new calls after my arrival at the register, he finally took my payment. I want everyone to succeed. Take pride in what you make and it will show. So much was old, frozen and thawed and presented with a palpable lack of care and pride. And yes, I know Vietnamese food. I grew up living near a Vietnamese aunt who regularly fed my family; we regularly seek out Vietnamese restaurants throughout the US and other countries and...finally, I lived in Southeast Asia. A clean little restaurant off SPID, this location is also a good Hu Dat option. I had the vegetable lo mein and it was probably the best lo mein I've ever had. There is a little area with the chili infused oils that I enjoyed sampling the different variations. Their tofu was really flavorful as well. Service was quick and courteous. The Pho is just amazing. The broth is so rich and flavorful. This time we tried the M2: Mi Thap Cam - Chicken, pork, shrimp with egg noodles soup - but hold the shrimp. And the M3: Hu Tiêú Mi Thap Cam Chicken, pork, shrimp with both egg & rice noodles soup. Delicious! Plenty of fresh bean sprouts, cilantro, jalapeño, and lime on the side to add to the broth. Then add some fish sauce, and you're in heaven. We also had their yummy egg rolls. We order fried wontons and pot stickers. I got the steak pho and tried the eggrolls. The steak had fat on it, which I've never seen before at a pho restaurant, and it had leather texture. The broth itself had a fragrant, sweet taste but I wouldn't say it's tasty. Really disappointed. Everyone else I ate with enjoyed their food and the egg rolls were tasty. Spicy enough to get the nose a little runny(good thing), but not overly spicy to mask any flavor.
