I use to go to one in Oakland whenever I'm craving for pho ga, but since the environment there is getting worst, and parking is always an issue there.. so I don't get to have pho ga as much.. The order took about 20 min, and when I picked it up it was super hot still. The prices were very affordable & they accept card ! The chicken pho is so light and tasty!! For this first visit I ordered the following: # 5 Phở Gà-Không Xng - Boneless Chicken Ho Fun in Chicken Broth Mix of shredded dark and white meat in a flavorful broth and thick rice noodles. - chicken juicy and broth delicious without no or minimal msg (no thirst or headache factor!) # 9 Com Gà Chiên - Crispy Fried Chicken and Rice - dark meat (leg/thigh), lightly dusted with cornstarch and fried. I didn't taste much seasoning no five spice, ginger, fish sauce in their version (i could be wrong) which i prefer when it comes to Asian fried chicken #10 Chả giò - Chicken fried eggrolls - crispy, wonderful filling with the sweet chili sauce. Items best eaten there (for optimum crispness) but everything was packed nicely for a great takeout experience. What a great addition to the San Leandro food scene! I have been eyeing Pho Ga 88 since it popped up on my Hot & New list and every time I went to the Asian Market nearby. One Wednesday afternoon my family and I decided to come try it out. We came around lunch time, so there were a few tables that were already occupied by other customers. You order at the counter and then take a seat. Water is self serve but anything else you need, the staff will bring you. We ordered two #2s, one #3, and a Vietnamese iced coffee. The menu is fairly simple - there are a handful of drinks and appetizers, and the main menu consists of the chicken noodle soup and chicken and rice dishes. Everything is also very reasonably priced at ~$9 per dish. After ordering, we sat down and everything came out with 5 minutes or so. At first glance, it doesn't look like a big portion. There were about 5-6 pieces of chicken in my #2 and a handful of ho fun noodles. But it ended up being very filling! The broth was flavorful, comforting, and rich without being overly seasoned or heavy. The chicken was tender and moist and the homemade ginger scallion sauce went perfectly with it. The Vietnamese iced coffee was also really good and balanced- creamy from the condensed milk but still a strong coffee flavor! I have tried almost every single place that has Vietnamese iced coffee in San Leandro, and hands down this place has the best one! And you really can't beat the price of $3.50! If you are looking for a comforting bowl of chicken noodle soup, this is the place! This is a local family-owned business and they really treated the food- and us- with care. The chicken noodle soup was flavorful along with the chicken that was tender. We opt for the thin rice noodles while you have options to also select from regular noodles (wheat noodles) and wide rice noodles. The chicken rice was tasty! Chicken was flavorful and tender, and the chicken flavored rice was also good. Understanding that it wasn't called hainanese chicken rice, I accepted that they wouldn't have the sauces option that usually come with hainanese chicken rice, but if those sauces like the ginger scallion sauce would have been available, that would be a bomb! Tried this place out on a Sunday morning and they had two tables outdoors. The restrictions haven't been lifted at this point. Ordered the chicken pho (pho ga) with Ho fun and regular pho noodles. You can ask to get the chicken shredded with no bone. We also had the egg rolls which they said was JUST freshly rolled and the chicken wings. You really can't go wrong with a bowl of soup after a long weekend. Egg rolls were good as well and the chicken wings had a crispy skin. A year later and this is still one of my favorite places to order pho and chicken and rice from. In the beginning, my family and I used to mainly get the pho, but recently I've just craved their braised chicken with infused jasmine rice, ginger and onion sauce, roasted peanuts, and picked veggies. We ordered the bone in ho fun, boneless noodle soup with ho fun noodles, braised chicken over rice, fried chicken leg, Vietnamese coffee and Thai tea. The soups were really good! Tastes authentic and reminds me of the noodle shops in Oakland. The Vietnamese coffee was good & it tastes strong, not to sweet! The only reason why I gave 4 stars was because the portions are somewhat small for the price. The entrees didn't come with much chicken, and $5 for a small chicken leg is kinda pricey. It's a small establishment with fast service. You order at the counter, grab your number and sit wherever you please. There was several tables inside and a few small tables on the sidewalk, right in front of the restaurant. The pho was good, a little on the sweet side. My husband added fish sauce, but he likes his broth salty. The chicken was tender and chewy, just like it is supposed to be. The sauce was a little disappointing to me. Don't get me wrong, it's good, but it needed to be a bit saltier and more gingery. It was missing that spicy kick of ginger on your tongue that travels through your nose. My Oakland peeps knows what I'm talking about. The Chicken egg rolls were a hit with the kiddos. It was super crispy with a decent amount of filling. Not mushy like other places. Came with a sweet chili sauce for dipping. We used to come to this place as a local mediocre substitute when we didn't feel like driving to our favorite chicken pho place, Pho Ga Huong Que Cafe in Oakland, which has since closed. Came to Pho Ga 88 the other day and the place is full so the guy tells us to put our name on the waiting list. Despite waiting outside and being on the waiting list, new people showed up and went inside to seat themselves. When we complained to the staff about it, we were ignored and told there was nothing they could do about people seating themselves. What??? So we left, vowing to never come back to Pho Ga 88 ever again. This left us in search of chicken pho still so we looked on Yelp and found a place down the street. I didn't recognize the name at first but soon recognized the lady (owner) behind the register. Behold, Pho Ga Huong Que has reopened in San Leandro! The owner explained to me that their lease expired at their Oakland location and they didn't renew since COVID had really dropped customer traffic. So our terrible experience at Pho Ga 88 led us to find our favorite chicken pho place that closed but reopened in San Leandro, closer to us! We had breast, back, wings, and drumettes on our visit. -Ginger scallion sauce had a good ratio of ginger, scallion, salt, and oil -Plenty of tender, fresh noodles Overall, on the slightly salty side. Probably much appreciated if you're hung over! Chicken pho 101 -- for my brothers/sisters who don't normally eat chicken like this: put a piece of chicken in your spoon, slap a bit of ginger/scallion on top, take a bite and avoid the bone. At this establishment you order and pay at the counter. Then grab complimentary ice tea and a seat at any open tables. Like their name indicates, their specialty is pho ga (and it seems fried chicken!). You can get a bowl of pho with a side of fried chicken! My nephew loved it. My bf and I opted for the fried chicken rice plates. You can choose from thigh or wing; the wings plate comes with 2 pieces and an egg roll. The portion sizes are huge and it's just under $10!!! We really should have shared a plate. It comes with a side of pickled daikon and carrots, slices of cucumbers, 2 types of sauce and a bowl of broth to wash it all down. The chicken skin was legit crispy and flavorful. You really don't need the sauce but it was nice to change up the flavor profile occasionally. I absolutely loved both sauces: one is ginger and scallion oil and the other is sweet and spicy. I heard great things about this place from friends was excited to try. There's another pho ga place in Oakland I went to a lot growing up so was excited to find another pho ga restaurant in this area. We decided to get takeout one day. We didn't have to wait long for our food to be ready. When it comes to the taste and quality of the food - I would rank this as average... I ordered the boneless chicken noodle soup with ho fun and my fiancé got the half chicken. Nothing special to share. We felt like everything was quite bland, including the ginger and scallion sauce. Very sad because we ordered the big tub of scallion sauce and now it's just sitting in our fridge. Maybe it will taste better if we ate it piping hot at the restaurant vs take out?
