Our first and last time here. Bare environment. Rough service. Below average food. I think I've gone to a fast food joint with more flare than this place. We wanted to sit at a two seater and were told to sit at a four seater. No room for negotiation lol. I ordered the beef stir fry and was served the seafood stir fry, and was told it was my mistake. It wasn't. I'm too anal to make mistakes like that. Listening to them yell about it in the kitchen in Vietnamese made it even more awkward. Moving on...... Even the beef stir fry was a let down (see pic.) The Beef Pho was so underwhelming and amateur it was comedic almost. Stellar Pho speaks languages to you, grabs your hand and takes you on an aromatic, exotic, thrilling and invigorating ride, with the last sip slapping you back into your chair glad to pay the bill. This Pho was hot water, cheap beef, some noodles and a couple of basil leaves with Hoisin sauce doing all the work. Yet, still failing. read more

My daughter and I are visiting from Seattle, Washington and my dad took us out to eat. Since we had never eaten them before we wanted to try one dish and ordered a vegetarian bowl. The owner was absolutely horrific. Since we only ordered one bowl of vegetable soup, he only offered two glasses of water instead of three. When we asked him why he only gave us two glasses of water he said that we only ordered one bowl of vegetable soup, which is why he would only give us two glasses of water. The owner was incredibly rude, disrespectful, and unkind. He was extremely inhospitable and disrespectful. When I asked him why he only brought two glasses of water he abruptly turned on his heels and walked away. This was the worst experience I've had in Vancouver to date. It's such a awful way to remember Vancouver by. I typically love coming to Vancouver to enjoy the food and try new little eateries. Also, I think that the store has poor sanitary standards. I highly recommend the store get checked by the local authorities to make sure it is clean and running to appropriate food service standards. read more

This rating is for the vegetarian pho, which was OK at best. I ordered their vegetarian pho for lunch (which is vegan -- I confirmed the broth was veggie broth; $12 plus tax), and the order came out about 10 minutes later. The soup came with lots of broccoli, celery and carrot, though the carrot wasn't fully cooked, and the usual vermicelli. No tofu though. The broth -- which is what makes or breaks these noodle soups -- was extremely bland, as though they just heated up some hot water, added a hint of salt, and that's it. I amped up the broth with their homemade chili oil, which helped, but this was still a very bland dish. Good price, good portion, but the broth was very underwhelming. There's no point going here for veggie pho with so many superior options even North Vancouver (check Pho North, Pho Bon Mua, and V-Nam). Not recommended. read more

This pho place stands out in the North shore since they offer excellent food and service. It seemed that the restaurant is a family-run business and I've always had a great, fast service there, despite some reviews commenting on the bad service. I usually order pho noodles there, which is great. The size is not too big or small. Moreover, the hard fried spring rolls(not the soft one) are the best spring rolls I had, so I often go just for the spring rolls. Overall, it is a great restaurant with great food, which is also very wallet-friendly where the prices are either cheap or reasonable. 100% recommend! read more

I really enjoyed the pho and spring rolls but the service was horrible. The food was average and the pho was better than other places but I just could not get over the quality of service. She didn't ask us if we wanted drinks had to tell her ourselves. They just expected us to know their menu and frown at us when we asked questions. Pho in Vancouver! Might as well start my Canadian provinces quest to eat Pho in all 13 provinces & territories in Canada. ^_^ It all starts with Vancouver and you could say that I just kicked off my Canadian spree with a nice bowl of Pho for dinner. Here I was in north Vancouver and there was a Vietnamese restaurant down the street from my hotel, so I decided to chill out and have dinner here on my 1st night in Vancouver on 04/30/15. Pho Garden was a quintessential Vietnamese restaurant that prides itself on good quality Vietnamese cuisine. All I wanted was a great bowl of Pho to kick off my adventures in Vancouver. The ambiance of this restaurant that night was quite quiet and reserved. I would say that the service here was kind of slow, but I didn't really care much, since I was close to my hotel, on vacation, and not in a hurry. I ordered the combination Pho, which they call it something entirely different here, and shrimp summer rolls. The overall experience ended up being a mixed bag, but the food was good and delicious. To my amazement, it was Canada and I was having pho. It was perfect. Pho Garden Vietnamese restaurant is located on the main drag of Marine Drive in north Vancouver, BC. I even had to use gps, just to locate it since my eyes could not see that it was in a corner of a shopping cluster. I entered around 7:30pm on a brisk Wednesday evening. The parking was nice, since it was shared among the other tenants in the shopping cluster. Plentiful parking options abound, but do take care that it can get filled up under peak times of the day. I got a table pretty much next to the entrance, where the rest of the tables were already occupied in the main dining area. Pho Garden accepts major credit cards, which is always a good plus when traveling abroad or just traveling within your own city / town. I ended up taking back those summer shrimp rolls back to the hotel to be eaten later that night, instead of woofing them down with my Pho at the restaurant. As aforementioned before, the service was slower than I thought. I guess they served everyone at a table before going to the next, which is understandable. Making each pho or dish as perfect as it can be takes time. It seemed longer than 15 minutes to get my order after putting in the order, but I'm not complaining just yet. The decor of Pho garden Vietnamese restaurant was subtle and welcoming. The restaurant itself was clean and organized, something similar to what you may find in a private middle class home. It was clean and organized. The service here was positive and friendly, albeit slower than what the norm is - at least for me anyway. The pho itself was pretty good. They don't really give enough vegetables, so I asked them for another round of bean sprouts just to make the meal more enriching and satisfying. The broth of the pho was decently good and they gave an adequate amount of noodles, but I should have ordered extra noodles anyway. Prices were decently good, although being an American, I had to convert it back to USD from CAD. All in all, Pho Garden is a good place to check out if you are in the mood for Vietnamese in north Vancouver, it's away from the urban sprawl of downtown, so you can kick back and relax with a heartwarming bowl of Pho here at Pho Garden. I'm surprised this place has already gotten 3 5* reviews after opening very recently. I would love to give it at least a 3* but the 'Meh. I've experienced better.' pretty much sums up my experience. I've enjoyed my fair share of pho in Vancouver and unfortunately this is one of the worst and be worst I don't mean it's horrible, it's just we have such good pho options in this city so this did not even remotely live up to my expectations. We were a group of 6 of us and ordered a bunch of things to share so I feel like I got a fair taste of what they had to offer. The small soup sizes are really small. I usually only order a small size at other places and am stuffed and not able to eat the spring rolls or any other appies but this time I polished my bowl and was still hungry. Fairly small portion and not quite enough noodle or meat but the worst part was the broth. Again by 'worst' I don't mean it was inedible, it just wasn't as flavourful or tasty as I've experienced elsewhere. It's like they cooked the broth but then added some water so the flavour felt diluted. We also tried the fried spring rolls (thinner than other places but okay tasting) and the salad rolls (normal but the dipping sauce wasn't as good as I've had before). I also tried the lemongrass pork and chicken on vermicelli and just like the rest, it was a bit lacking. At the end of our meal we order the red bean with coconut milk drink and again it was decent but just okay. They do add the green grass jelly and a big chunk of ice so be sure to mix it up well. On the positives, it's a brand new restaurant and definitely the cleanest Vietnamese restaurant I've been in. The people who work there (I'm assuming are also the owners) were friendly and helpful as the people we were eating with were very confusing with their order and questions. hopefully with the fairly new opening they are still working out some of the kinks and it'll improve - not too many options for this type of food on the North Shore! read more

Came here for the first time for lunch with my partner today. There's a really limited selection of places to eat pho on the North shore. We usually go to bun bon hua off lonsdale but as it's closed on sundays we chose to chance it and try this place out. It was busy when we arrived which seemed to be a good thing though actually it was deceptive. We ordered the spring rolls and both got a bun bo hue. The food took forever! I have no idea why because they have to do is drop the spring rolls in a fryer and then compose the dish with pre made ingredients. As you can see in the photos everything was below average. The spring rolls looked orange and were skinny. The pho had little toppings and the soup was NOT Spicy nor fragrant as evident by the colour of the soup. What a disappointment for bun bo hue. I even heard a guy at the next table complaining about the lack of toppings to the server. I had to add plenty of extra hot sauce. But that being said it was not disgusting and still edible. The man serving seemed to know many of the customers and was nice enough. The young girl working aside him seemed quite clueless. We asked for a glass of water and it never came as I continued to watch her doing other things. I asked a second time and still nothing. Finally I asked the man. She must've overheard as the water came a few minutes later. The reviews on this place were quite polarized so I felt I had to come myself to find out. I wouldn't come back. It's just not worth it no matter how much you crave pho and the slowness was shocking. I gave it three stars though that might even be generous. read more

We tried this new restaurant recently. Everything was meh. The Vietnamese salad rolls had three halfs of prawn veeeery spaced out to make it look like there was more inside; the roll could easily have fit five. Other than that it was just noodles, a tiny single piece of iceberg lettuce, and the rice wrap. The pho beef was surprisingly chewy for thinly sliced beef. The broth and noodles were tasteless and the spicy sauce wasn't very spicy, so we really had to use a couple heaping teaspoons to get any flavour. The accompanying veggie plate was the saddest I have ever seen at a Vietnamese restaurant: lemon instead of lime, and no jalapeños or onions. We got two napkins and two sets of chopsticks for a table for four. When we asked for more, we got one more set of chopsticks and one more napkin. There is another pho place nearby with similar pricing and MUCH better food. I will go there from now on. Skip this place. The convenient location and friendly staff don't make up for the disappointing food and overall feeling of stinginess. read more

Was about to give a 2 star as ordered their ice coffee to go, way too much condensed milk but for a pho connossieur, I know I have to be back, but for the wrong reasons. While I try not to put too much weight on yelp reviews, but the high ratings here are from those who either have a low review # or friend count...really have to come back to prove it once in for all lol, next week if there's time after my meetings but I'll digress. Indeed, it's spacious, clean, good layout, and does not have that lingering fish oil sauce that we are all accustomed to. We ate here yesterday for the first time and we're so happy we found this place. It was very clean, the people were super nice, and the food was awesome. We had the #26 Phô soup in beef broth with vegetables and beef and holy smokes was it good. I've been to so many Pho places and the broth is just yuck! She ordered a size small and it looked like a large. I ordered the #36 Chicken & Vegetables on rice and it was soo good. It wasn't greasy and tasted great! We'll definitely be back and my bet is if you give it a try you'll be back too! read more

The service is really good. Everyone was very nice and friendly. It's very cozy and family oriented. I was super impressed by the food and the smoothie I ordered. They use real fruit for their smoothies. The price is also very good for the portion and quality that you get. Definitely recommend this place and I'm going back for sure. read more

I feel bad because the owners of this restaurant are very nice. However, after three visits I have no choice but to give them a poor review, as the pho was consistently bad. I am half-Vietnamese; I know my pho. I always order pho tai (pho with rare beef). On my last visit, the noodles were overcooked and watery; but the worst is their rare beef slices. They are sliced so thick and yet when the bowl arrives the beef is already cooked. It is tasteless and chewy. Their salad rolls are also shockingly bad. Huge and full of noodles - tasteless. Salad rolls should be thinner, with less noodles and more mint leaves, lettuce and prawns/pork. I live nearby and would love to be able to frequent this place - please try to improve your food and I will come back. One funny anecdote: on my last visit, when i went to the bathroom you go by the kitchen and someone was asleep on top of the chest freezer, wearing shoes and all, right next to the food prep area. Absolutely impressed with the service! I walked in during lunch hour and was immediately seated and given a menu and tea. It took me a bit to choose something and ended up getting the beef ball pho. I only waited less than ten minutes for my food and was given everything I needed before I even asked. The food was amazing! It was hot and fully cooked. Wow! now that's raking in the customers ..wait until they sit down and get comfy and then tell them to leave and travel through traffic across the busiest street by foot and back. And yes...I did it. Felt like a donkey...or yet another desperate moro# that does not know how to cook, yet I do. Ordered bahn mi sandwhich 3.50 cheap but good quality - little ingredients, mostly bread but fresh tastings. I just wish the put more veggies! Had the spring rolls as appie....hot and tasty but not much filling inside. A little salad on the edge was a nice palate cleanser. Went to pay at front, was told to hurry hurrry, repeatedly as I was counting change....I nearly got into an argument and she kept saying it...I suppose she wanted a huge tip or was busy, but there were only 4 tables busy. She was the server, host and cashier...along with a male assistant and chef. To the guy using Pho to clear your cold, sinus problems or by chance a cleanse...get up, move your legs, get inside a washroom and blow your nose!!! My go to for lunch or dinner. Especially when I'm coming down with a cold. The owners are friendly and remember me from the first day I started going when they opened. And pretty much have kept the place tidy. There satè sauce is fresh. I really enjoyed the mince pork vermicelli bowl, brisket with meat ball. My husband really likes the chicken wings. The subs look popular been meaning to try them. The menu is smaller but to be honest most really good restaurants do have a smaller menu. read more

Most definitely not coming back. The place isn't very friendly. Weird smell at a restaurant, the server wasn't very accommodating. The soup was flavourless and the noodles had a strange flavour as well. I didn't enjoy my visit there. When I asked for TWO containers to go and told them I would do it myself (I like separating noodles from the soup!) the lady "advised" me (in a very rude tone) how I should put my noodles in a different container. This place has a potential to be busy and awesome only if they get some good servers, fix the soup and clean up the space. I DO NOT recommend this place. Waste of money read more

Disgusting experience. Vile food, food poisoning, and bad service. Walked in to take a look at the menu and possibly order food. Looked at menu and sat down with permission of waitress. 15 mins pass and no service. I waved over waitress. She told me I ordered food I didn't order. Somehow between looking at menu and sitting down, the english conversation impaired waitress shockingly created an order I didn't make. She told me I placed an order, when I said I didn't she insisted that I did. The most bizarre experience I've ever had dining. I should have left. I ordered an appetizer and main dish from rude waitress. 15 more minutes, then main dish arrived. No appetizer. After completing meal and giving up on appetizer, I went to pay check. The rude incompetent waitress tried to make me pay for an appetizer I never received. She claimed it was being made. I told her I needed to leave (after 45 mins) and most appetizers come before the main dish. The clear relative of someone, tried to demand I pay for an after dinner appetizer! Saying i couldn't cancel???! It was becoming an issue. Until I placed money for what I actually consumed on the counter and left. The food was fatty, bland, and even gave me food poisoning. The pho was excellent. That is all we tried but the stock was better than most including a highly rated one on Robson. Typical low end decor part of the low cost low profit business, more reason to support these type of businesses. I just got takeout from Pho Garden. I called them with no menu in hand and they were super helpful in making a selection. They were very welcoming and warm when I picked up my dinner, which was super yummy. I was in Vietnam last year and have eaten a lot of Pho soup! Theirs is among the best. I would never go here again or recommend to go here to anyone. I simply wanted just the broth and beef balls. With no noodles. Most pho restaurant would never charge you the full price of a bowl of pho. Keep in mind the bowl of pho was 7.50 with noodles and meat. The server told me it was the same price cause the beef they use to boil is expensive. I wanted 2 beef balls in soup, she was charging me $16 dollars. So I said OK I'll just get 1 large pho, just give me the whole pho with the beef balls and the noodles. It wasn't busy, only had 3 people in there yet it took a while to make 1 bowl of pho to go. She charges me $8.50 for a large bowl of pho. Thinking I would pay for a bowl with everything $8.50 is reasonable. I open the bag and see just soup and beef balls even after I told her I wanted everything since the price was rediculioius. I went back asking for the noodles and she was choked saying that's what you wanted. I said I wanted the phone with everything and I told you. She gave me attitude and told me " We gave you EXTRA beef balls". I was way to tired and hung over to make her understand my order. She clearly was not gonna fix the order so I walked off. The vegetarian spring rolls are a bit soggy and tough but I like that they use rice paper instead of the chinese spring roll paper. Don't bother. I was here once several years ago when they first opened and was seriously underwhelmed by the flavourless Vietnamese sub that I had. But I was desperate today and thought I'd give them a second chance. I placed my to go order (shredded pork salad rolls and BBQ pork sub) and the guy told me it would be 15 minutes because they had been really busy (it was 1:35 pm). He gestured to the restaurant but there were only 4 or 5 tables filled. No problem, I had some shopping to do so I came back in 11 minutes, expecting to sit and wait for a few minutes. When I came back in the lady that was working there said "2 minutes" and brusquely brushed past me. I sat down and waited...and waited....and waited. Eventually I saw a white styrofoam container come through the window which I thought may have been one of my dishes. I looked around and saw that now there were only 2 tables occupied, and they both had their food already. How could it possibly take this long?? Finally my sub came through the window and the lady bagged my items and gave them to me with no acknowledgement of how long I had waited (over 25 minutes total). The sub was below average. There was no sauce (that butter/mayo stuff they put on), pate or Maggi so it was not very flavourful. The shredded pork salad rolls were very, very disappointing. They consisted of the rice paper wrap, lettuce, shredded pork, bean sprouts, rice noodles....and that's it. No fresh herbs, no pickled carrots (although I understand that may not be traditional in the shredded pork ones)....nothing else to add any depth of flavour. I won't ever return. Sad that there's such a dearth of decent Vietnamese on the North Shore. read more

Not a lot of choices in North Vancouver but after a few visits I find they really skimp on the meat. Ordered with beef and beef ball and there were 3 little pieces, not even enough for one beef ball. Great family run restaurant. The pho is great and one of the few places I've found where tendon can be added to the delicious broth. Always friendly, quick service even when they are busy. When I need a fix of Saigon, I come here with my wife and we are always satisfied. Easy access and plenty of parking. Keep up the great work. I really not recommend you came to this rectaurant. The food is not really good but it ok, the women in the restaurant just stole from me 5$ Can in front of everybody. I know it just 5$ can but she is a boss in the restaurant how could she do that thing? I gave her 20$ usa and my meal is 8.95$ can so she should change for me 16.22$ can but she change for me just 11.05. Then i come to claim her to of her mistake but she said she said alot of thing to make her to be right. I was super mad when she do that to me because me and her are Vietnamese. read more
