A rainy day called for soup for dinner. Close to our hotel. The restaurant was bright and airy. Plenty of tables for sitting. Tastefully decorated with Thai paintings. I ordered the Tom Ka soup. It is a coconut lemon grass soup. I added chicken to mine. It was full of thinly sliced chicken, onions, mushrooms, carrots, broccoli and noodles. I ordered my soup mild. My husband ordered the Tom Yum medium heat level with shrimp as his protein. The medium was the perfect spice level for him. My daughter ordered Laksa soup with chicken and medium spice level. I got a laksa at Rice and Noodle and enjoyed it! The ingredients were fresh and the food was prepared quickly. The laksa might have felt a tiny bit on the spicy side for me, but my tolerance for spiciness is also slightly on the low side, so take that feedback with a grain of salt - it might be perfect for someone else. I had heard so many great things about this spot and was sadly disappointed by their Thai renditions. I ordered two pad thais and a pad see ew for my friends and I. Both were dry and lacking fillings - the worst part in my opinion was that they tasted the same! Very much lacking in sauce, "toppings" and flavour. I didn't get a chance to see the restaurant, since I ordered take out, but it looks like a decent, casual take out spot from the exterior. After a hike in West Van, we wanted something quick for a late lunch. We decided to try Rice & Noodle. They do a mix of Asian dishes. They also have two other locations (downtown Vancouver and West Broadway). We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon (around 2:30pm). Most people were grabbing takeout (shockingly quick) but we dined in. Water is self-serve by the counter but they bring out your order to the table. The menu is short and sweet; 13 items to choose from then pick your spice level (from 1 to 10). We went with level 6 (tom yum) and 7 (laksa). - Laksa ($11.99) - broth was better than I expected; B said it's similar to what you'd find at Deer Garden. Level 7 gave the broth a touch of spiciness and the coconut flavour came through. Not a traditional laksa as they throw in more vegetables. Chicken was unfortunately dry but was the better of our two dishes. - Tom yum soup ($10.99) - they leave the kaffir limes so don't eat those. Not much ingredients in this bowl other than an excessive amount of onions. The beef was much better than the chicken. Broth was okay; mostly a sour note. I was skeptical at first when trying Rice & Noodle because it might ended up like some random food court Thai food. But it turned out to be suprisingly delicious. They have rice and noodle dishes with you choice of protein (beef, pork, chicken or prawn - extra $1). You can choose the spicy levels from 1-10. As a Vietnamese, I tried 1 to 8 and they were not that spicy so I went straight up to 10. It was hahahah burning your soul. So on the third time I reduced to 9 and keep it until now. I usually ordered pad Thai, tom tum soup and fried rice. The price is decent and good fit for an easy quick lunch. Staffs are nice and the chef sometimes sings out loud from the kitchen. Walked in at 7PM on a week day with a restaurant full of diners and almost nobody working. I wasn't greeted or asked if I had ordered nor was I shown that they no longer were taking orders after waiting for 15 minutes and finally having to ask the one staff member on till. Their hours say from 11AM-11PM. Not sure why they would refuse a walk in customer, but clearly their restaurant is mismanaged. I wanted to try the food so I ordered the following day in person again, as their phone number does NOT work. The food is VERY average. You could cook better at home for a lot cheaper. It's also VERY oily, which is just too bad for a place that should be able to deliver on its delicious product photography. If you need a quick over hyped meal.... We tried them out for a Sat night take out and were quite disappointed. I've rarely called to complain about take out, but one dish in particular was so bad we could barely eat it. The pineapple fried rice had mostly burnt elements such as beans and corn and the burnt flavour was all throughout the dish. The pad see eu was so oily and had an odd taste, don't know if it came from the coating of the container or oil they used, but it wasn't good. And the spring rolls seemed under cooked and sparsely filled. The noodles were ordered with prawns for an extra $1 and two small prawns was their serving size. I had a creamy coconut Thai soup with noodles and that was quite good. Traditionally it doesn't come with noodles, but it's nice that it does here as it made for a complete meal as opposed to a starter. After calling they offered to make up for it with two complimentary meals. So we tried again. We got a panag red curry, laksa and padthai. Both the curry and laksa were good, but the padthai was not memorable. In summary, the curries and noodle soups are good, the noodle dishes and sides are mediocre and the fried rice was a miss. It's comparable to a decent food court stand. If you want quality, you'll need to pay a bit more at one of the specialty spots in the area. But if you're looking for quick and cheap, then this is it! read more

This place is my go to for any spicy rice craving. I love spice and their level 10 is the only one that actually makes me sweat! Their food is affordable, healthy and most of all, DELICIOUS. You can tell their ingredients are fresh and out of the numerous times I have ordered, not once has anything been off. They mixed up the orders for skip the dishes and right away acknowledged and were so kind. Even added in a small cute note when I reordered. My first review. A bit about myself. I lived in Kitsilano for over 20 years. I just moved to north Vancouver. I remember it took a long time to find my favorite "go-to" places. It looks like I will have to start all over again. I thought I would share my journey in weeding out the bad and finding the fabulous. I was a personal chef, I've worked in several restaurants. I also taught in-home cooking classes. Even though I have changed professions, my love of food lives strong. I will be trying out all the local restaurants but I will also be in search of a great nail salon, hairdresser, grocery store, delivery service, drug store, and more I will give 1 star for great tasting food (or whatever I'm buying), 1 star for price to quality ratio, 1 star for exceptional service, 1 star for cleanliness, and 1 last star for that vavavavoom.... wow, you have impressed me. RICE AND NOODLE Star 1 - The food was fantastic. We ordered the Panang Curry, Green Curry, Pad Thai, and Thai Coconut Soup. All dishes were very flavorful. We love spicy food. It was great that we could request "above normal" spicy dishes. Everything was cooked well (not over or undercooked). The portions were respectable. Star 2 - The prices are really good. Each dish is about $12. You can't do better than that for great food Star 3 - Service was good. You have to go to the counter to order your food. The staff was friendly and helpful. I had forgotten my wallet but knew there had to be a way to pay with my phone. One of the cooks stopped cooking and walked over to help me. He showed me how to pay through the Uber app. All around good service. Star 4 - the restaurant was clean and organized. I forgot to check the washrooms Star 5 - I gave Rice and Noodle the fifth star because I found my go-to Thai restaurant. Bonus: the delivered food was equally as good. Would I go back? hell ya If I could change one thing, what would it be? My go-to restaurant in kits has 1 litre curry sauces on the menu. We would order our meals for dine-in and we would order a container of green and red curry sauce to go. These containers did not have veg or meats in them. it was perfect for a weekday dinner. Easy prep of your own veg and protein. Selling the "home prep" sauces never deterred us from coming in to dine. It help us with our weekday meals and the restaurant made some extra cash. I really enjoyed the spring rolls they had. It was very crispy and juicy. The beef noodle soup was decent but I preferred the original pho noodles at other restaurants. The lemongrass chicken rice was tasty. Overall, I would go back if I'm in the neighbourhood craving for pho. My co-workers and I get lunch from here almost every Saturday. The staff is always very friendly and accurate with their pick-up times. We like that we can choose the spice level, and they are very accommodating with any other requests (sauce on the side, substituting, etc..) Everything is made freshly to order. I don't know what it is about the Vancouver Metro area and Thai food, but they only have one kind of noodle. It's so odd. Pad See Ew is supposed to have the extra wide noodles. That's how it's served in Thailand, and literally every single Thai food place I've been to in the states. Are wide noodles illegal in BC? It's so odd. This may seem small, but it really does change the entree. I deduct 1 star for this at ALL BC Thai food places. With the ability to earn the star back in other ways. There is nothing special about the place. It's okay. It's really convenient for me, so I'll keep going there. Their prices aren't terrible, but could probably be cheaper given that I know how cheap it is to make Thai food. But that's Vancouver for you. They are fast at getting your order up, and they have online ordering. BUT, they are TERRIBLE at reading and/or implementing any customization. I have an intolerance to onions. That turn my stomach inside out. Plus I'm just not a fan. Every single time I have ordered from them online, I have clearly stated no onions. Politely. With a smiley face! Every single time, there are onions in my meal. They are massive, so they're easy to pick out. But that means they are taking up space that they could substitute with broccoli or something. Just very frustrating when places offer the ability to customize and then regularly ignore it. Mistakes happen. But this isn't a one off. I've been here maybe 5 times. All 5 times! I have to dig through and pick them all out. If I wanted to prepare my own food, I wouldn't have ordered from them in the first place. ;) I'm being nice by giving them 3 stars. I want to give 2.5 because the customization is really frustrating. But .5 stars aren't allowed. 2 seems harsh. But 3 seems too generous as well. Fast and Affordable. Lots of options, meat or vegetarian, including GF. Pretty lean on the veggies but for $2 you can add extra veg, or extra proteins. Quality of chicken seems good: big pieces of breast meat and not processed. I've had the pad Thai a few times but last couple times it's been almost unbearably too spicy (ordered a level 5 and a level 4 and both times waaay too hot, but in the past level 5 was mild and I drowned it in sriracha which I love). I normally eat fiery hot food but in this case my lips continued to burn well after I finished eating. I recommend ordering low or no spice and adding hot sauce to taste. Pad See Ew and Kung Pao are also good. Tom yum soup was ok, pretty much just lots of onions in tasty broth with noodles. read more
