Albeit I haven't had Pho in a while, theirs was amazing from the first sip. And the Bahn Mi also so good. Very flavourful.

I stopped in for lunch to try out their veggie pho -- you can do a small for $14.75 or large for $15.75; I did the latter. The restaurant's Google reviews aren't great, so I was a bit weary. But the pho quality was great! My soup came out in about 5 minutes. You get a massive portion of noodles, loads of broccoli, carrots, deep fried tofu, onions and the usual garnishes on the side. The broth was wonderfully salted and had enough depth to make it interesting -- didn't even need to add chili oil. This pretty much ticked all the boxes I look for with pho. Maybe not world-class quality, but it was very satisfying. Recommended. read more

With limited choices of Vietnamese Cuisine in the North Shore, Pho Spot located on Lonsdale stood out likea sore thumb due to its great location. As you walk in, the place has plenty of seating and cleanliness vibe to it. They have televisions for quick news reports for those eating alone. I would not say that this is a place to bring a date, however it may be a good option for a quick take out. In terms of food, my impressions are the following; - plenty but not overwhelming amount of choices in the food menu. - the picture in the menu looks better than the meal - slightly overprice - no happy hour - i got the grilled chicken on rice and it was delicious but not great. - it lacked a little bit of seasoning - wasn't impress of the dish in comparison to the price. It is most likely that I will try out this place again and re judge my experience. But until I do so, my opinion as an average nothing special restaurant will remain the same. I live in North Van and after being mildly underwhelmed [if that's a word] by the Pho offerings in Nvan I made a decision to visit Pho Spot . I did this based of the great reviews its received on Yelp. I generally find its worth the time and effort to place your carcass in the car and head at least as far as Boa Chau before finding a bowl of broth worthy of its noodles and meat. And that's what I generally do. Not because Im particularly pissy about where I eat or what I pay. I just know that the chances of being let down by any Asian meal is less likely when I cross a bridge. I would love to stay on my side of the bridge , have a regular place to go for less than lovely ambience , terrible service and a cash only experience for a great bowl of Pho. Such is the reason I looked forward to todays marked effort at 1442 Lonsdale. Place is nice. Clean , lots of room between tables was not usual. Great plastic menus with loads of pictures. Half the tables were occupied. Fast service and I ordered the special. Bits of everything from beef balls to tripe and thin sliced tendon. A fast large bowl arrived with a small side of sprouts and a less than usual serving of basil. First taste, broth is great. Slightly sweet and salty. Fragrant star anise, lemon grass and ginger. Small serving of perfectly cooked rice noodles. So whats the problem? None really. It is the best bowl of broth and noodles in North Van. My friend had the chicken Bun which he liked. Looked great. Fresh chopped veggies, clean, bright. Price is great. Service is excellent. This is the best bowl of Pho in North Van. Very tasty! After an epic hike we decided pho was in order. Strange? Not at all! The soupy goodness helped ease away the achy pains already settling in and the generous amounts of noodles and toppings were perfect for filling out very empty stomachs. I would say the broth here was pretty epic for the pho, the beef stew broth was not bad either. We also ordered the Vietnamese style chicken wings which was the only down side of the meal. They were nice and crispy bit had barely any seasoning. The dip was a stage tomato based one. Maybe trying to mimic Vietnamese ragu? It's possible, bit it was definitely a miss. This Vietnamese restaurant is the place that I always spend my lunch break in. Decent food, pho is pretty good, the rice with pork chop dish comes in huge portion and good price. The waiter is very nice and polite, the waitress, she has kinda a rude tone which annoyed me at first. But when you start talking and get to know her better, I think she's just a nice lady with loud voice and rude tone. She isn't rude at all. When you got to this place, parking was a little bit hard, because it was only street parking. When we first entered this place around 2pm, the waitress was already speaking to us in rudely manner, but because our group of 10 people were very hungry, so we just ignored the way she spoke to us and focus our mind to order food. Since we were unfamiliar with the place we wanted to ask her for some directions to get the market around North Vancouver and she flatted out said she didn't know anything, and then went to eat (I guess she might have been hanger since she hadn't eaten). Then we asked one of the waiter, who was a nice man, he was willing to give us information. While he was giving direction, the waitress from where she was sitting then started to finally give us information we needed to go. This place, customer service was interesting. Commenting on their food, it was okay. Almost all of us ordered Pho and spring roll, but I ordered vermicelli noodle with grilled meat and fried egg rolls. I tried some of their Pho' broth, I definitely agreed that it tasted really well seasoned. As for my order, the vermicelli noodle, well the noodle was a little bit dry, so I think they left it out for a long time. The meat was decent, but their fish sauce was very tasty, And this was why I was able to finish my bowl of noodle. I must say their spring rolls and the dipping sauce is not as good as other places that I've tried. It had nothing special to make the spring rolls taste good, just lettuce, noodle, and shrimp inside. It was just bland. In my opinion, the best Pho on the North Shore, and while I've had similar quality elsewhere, I can't say with conviction it was better. This is my "go to" in my neighborhood, and I've come to know the owners, Mindy and Michael, quite well over the last year and a bit. They're great hosts, and always accommodate my unusual requests with a smile. I will also say that their beef broth is second to none, and that if you show up late on Friday night, it will likely be the best broth you've ever tasted. Trust me, this is the sweet spot. Other times never disappoint. Their subs and salad rolls always taste fresh, and the french bread is always crispy and light. The owner( (lady) was going to take a piece of meat that has been served to me back to the kitchen, and swap with something else. Guess what they would do with that piece of meat? My guess is to serve to the next customer. Or else they would've just brought me the new item. 2. No customer registration or social distancing during COVID. Tables are 2 feet away from each other. They still take full capacity during lunch hours. 3. Refused to take back the poor quality meat and refuse to sell anything else after we complaint the meat turned sour. Here's our story: We've lived in North Van for 7 years and we visited this place once awhile. We liked their food. It's not the best Vietnamese food we've had, but we are happy we have a little restaurant like this in our neighborhood. The food quality had been consistent, not the best quality but good value for the price, until today. I ordered R1, which is a piece of grilled pork, some shredded pork, and a fried egg. They served two pieces of grilled pork plus a fired egg instead. I called them when I realized there's something wrong. The owner lady took the plate while tried to convince me two pieces of pork is a better deal. She said she could take a piece of pork and put some shredded pork on top. I noticed a piece of my hair dropped on the plate, so I thought it's the best just to keep whatever they served me. I didn't need two pieces of pork so I gave one to my husband. When I tried my piece, it was sour and not fresh. I asked my husband how's his piece. He said his was fine. I tried his just to compare. His piece was fine. So I called them again and asked politely if I could get a different piece of pork. The owner lady was angry. She insisted all the meat (pork and chicken) were all marinated together and all fresh. She said she would bring me some shredded pork but she would not give me another piece of pork. Then she brought a small plate of shredded pork to our table. I didn't want to just eat plain rice plus some try shredded pork, so I asked if I could order something separately, like a piece of chicken. She refused to sell me anything else and implied I could either eat or leave. Giving one star might not be fair just for one horrible experience. After a second thought, I'm more concerned what I have been served in the past a few years. Couldn't help wondering if I had any returned orders or the kitchen sanitation and safety. Very disappointed by the portion of food and the owners attitude. The food is so-so, but the portion is pathetic. We ordered a combo that worths $10.50, but could not believe the skinny rolls placed in front of us. We asked the waitress if that's all the food. The waitress told us that's all that is and said that's what we get according to the menu. We asked the manager if we could return our order. She got very defensive and told us that's what we get and we must pay regardless. We should have taken the sign of it's emptiness as a warning. I dunno! Should I start with the service or the grisly chicken in my noodle bowl!? Let's start with the chicken vermicelli noodle bowl. The chicken was grisly. There! Not the worst, but I've definitely had better noodle bowls. The service, well again it wasn't the worst but we've definitely had better. The service was very friendly and nice, but once our food was delivered we didn't see a server until we had to walk up to the counter to pay. I'll no longer go here anymore because I politely asked to use their washroom today, and they absolutely refused me if I don't consume anything right away. As a 30-year North Van resident, I feel compelled to write this warning as part of my community service to NV residents. Warning: All one-star ratings on the site is true and in line with my own observations and experience. Stay away unless you are adrenaline junky who enjoy "bad treatment." While most contributors visited this place during normal lunch/dinner hours, I came mainly late at 11pm+ after my works - at that time, you could imagine not much customers (therefore no servers except owner's wife). I can vouch all negative service reviews were equally applicable at night or even worse - because you would face the mother-of-all-evil herself: the owner's wife or the boss-woman. I would be remiss if I don't qualify my above characterization of the owner or owner's wife by stating that she is not that bad "half" of the time. This is so because she treated customers differently based on their racial background. For some, she treats you like "King"; for others, she treads you like "junk." Very disgraceful. read more

However, the waitress was soooo off-putting that even my husband, who would tip the most atrocious wait staff in my opinion, agreed not to give her a tip. This is probably the first time in his life he didn't leave a tip. It's too bad because the "bus man" was pretty nice. * DISCLAIMER* I have NOT tasted any of their food so my review is based solely on their CUSTOMER SERVICE... which was infuriating. My friend and I walked in after having dinner at a nearby Korean restaurant upon seeing the sign advertising bubble tea. We walked in planning to just get bubble tea and leave, but the lady came up to us and asked us if it was the two of us and seated us giving us menu's. So we just sat (seeing that the place was almost empty we thought it wouldn't be a problem) and looked for the bubble tea options. I saw the ice cream desserts and they looked really cute so I decided to get the espresso one and my friend decided to get an ice cream bubble tea. Now when she came to get our order, my friend told her she wanted the ice cream bubble tea, but the lady told us they didn't have it in the RUDEST tone... and even now I can't understand what it was she was trying to tell us! She was so loud and clearly annoyed that we couldn't understand what she was saying and the way she was talking suggested she thought WE couldn't understand English well! I have never been so infuriated with customer service in my life but even then, I just told my friend to just pick something else why I ordered the espresso gelato dessert.... but then... she tells me really loud that she JUST told me they didn't have that....................????? Maybe she meant that they didn't have any gelato which is why they couldn't make the bubble tea or the dessert because they both included gelato. I can understand that can happen... but if you don't have something on your menu (ESPECIALLY when its a huge advertisement on the restaurant window by the door??!!)... You're supposed to apologize and explain the situation to the customer!! but nooooooope, instead she asked me "I TOLD YOU WE DON'T HAVE!! DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND??!!" and at this point I replied "NOO!!! I CANT understand what you're trying to say AT ALL!!!" and she just replied "Oh?? Really??" and then she just walked away. Honestly I don't know what else to say, I'm usually a quiet person that rarely gets upset with other people outside and I can get past almost any mistake when it comes to customer service, without getting mad as I am a waitress myself, but this was absolutely ridiculous. I don't mean to be racist or anything but she had a very heavy accent so it was hard to understand in the first place but talking to us in such a condescending and rude way SO loudly was just absolutely ridiculous. There's a new PHO King Spot in North Vancouver and it is absolutely phenomenal. I live in East Van and this place rivals even some of the greatest. I've been here a handful of times to inform you that if you are looking for a legit pho spot in North Van, this is the pho spot you want to be at. Food: Legit, fresh, flavourful - broth was impressive and not oily/fatty. If ordering a large, the portion sizes are HUGE, (do not change this, this is a great thing), you will never leave here hungry if you order a large pho. Small size if you're watching the scale. Service: Fast and direct. It's a mom and pop shop (as most pho places are) but the woman is always smiling and appreciative of the business. Can come across as harsh when taking your order but I don't think this is intentional, just a language barrier. I come here on my lunch breaks and always leave on time and satisfied. I hate writing reviews for hidden gems but I know this place isn't going to be hidden much longer, everytime I come at least half the restaurant is full and it always seems to be that way. People are getting word of this place and if this keeps up, it's going to shut all the Pho places around down. read more

Having lived in East Van and visited several Phõ joints around Kingsway I was excited to try this place out, my 4th one out in the north shore since I moved to lower Lonsdale. Unfortunately I was not able to get a taste of Chef Michael Ngo's House Special due to the rudeness of the pushy server that tried to force sit me in a table that I was hesitant to take as I had requested for her to please place me over by the wall. So, I had to walk out of there. It was 11:30am and I was the 3rd patron in the establishment, this behaviour is not necessary, specially towards neighbours that are Phõ enthusiast. For good Pho and good customer service you might as well go to Pho 98 just up the street or V-Nam on 3rd and St. George's. read more
