#P6 - beef brisket and meatball
Carolyn L.

Decent pho along Lonsdale Ave. It is great on a cool evening and you want something quick and hot to warm you up. Service is ok and the pho is served very soon after you order. I had the beef brisket and beef balls pho. I will not say it is the best pho around but it is good enough to go back again if I am in the area. There is a TV so you can entertain yourself if dining alone with watching whatever program is on.

Grilled chicken on rice.

With limited choices of Vietnamese Cuisine in the North Shore, Pho Spot located on Lonsdale stood out likea sore thumb due to its great location. As you walk in, the place has plenty of seating and cleanliness vibe to it. They have televisions for quick news reports for those eating alone. I would not say that this is a place to bring a date, however it may be a good option for a quick take out. In terms of food, my impressions are the following; - plenty but not overwhelming amount of choices in the food menu. - the picture in the menu looks better than the meal - slightly overprice - no happy hour - i got the grilled chicken on rice and it was delicious but not great. - it lacked a little bit of seasoning - wasn't impress of the dish in comparison to the price. It is most likely that I will try out this place again and re judge my experience. But until I do so, my opinion as an average nothing special restaurant will remain the same. Cheers, Dave from Vancity

Bun bo hue

I had the bun bo hue which is one of their chef's specials! It didn't disappoint on a cold winter day. Service is quick. The broth was flavourful and there was a good ratio of meat and veggies. If you want try something other than pho and can take a little spice, this would be the dish to try.

I live in North Van and after being mildly underwhelmed [if that's a word] by the Pho offerings in Nvan I made a decision to visit Pho Spot . I did this based of the great reviews its received on Yelp. I generally find its worth the time and effort to place your carcass in the car and head at least as far as Boa Chau before finding a bowl of broth worthy of its noodles and meat. And that's what I generally do. Not because Im particularly pissy about where I eat or what I pay. I just know that the chances of being let down by any Asian meal is less likely when I cross a bridge. I would love to stay on my side of the bridge , have a regular place to go for less than lovely ambience , terrible service and a cash only experience for a great bowl of Pho. Such is the reason I looked forward to todays marked effort at 1442 Lonsdale. Place is nice. Clean , lots of room between tables was not usual. Great plastic menus with loads of pictures. Half the tables were occupied. Fast service and I ordered the special. Bits of everything from beef balls to tripe and thin sliced tendon. A fast large bowl arrived with a small side of sprouts and a less than usual serving of basil. First taste, broth is great. Slightly sweet and salty. Fragrant star anise, lemon grass and ginger. Small serving of perfectly cooked rice noodles. So whats the problem? None really. It is the best bowl of broth and noodles in North Van. My friend had the chicken Bun which he liked. Looked great. Fresh chopped veggies, clean, bright. Price is great. Service is excellent. This is the best bowl of Pho in North Van. Its not Kingsway but it will save me a trip to Kingsway when im feeling lazy...

Number 14 with all the fixings (aka tripe, beef balls, rare steak) and chicken wings in the back ground.

Very tasty! After an epic hike we decided pho was in order. Strange? Not at all! The soupy goodness helped ease away the achy pains already settling in and the generous amounts of noodles and toppings were perfect for filling out very empty stomachs. I would say the broth here was pretty epic for the pho, the beef stew broth was not bad either. We also ordered the Vietnamese style chicken wings which was the only down side of the meal. They were nice and crispy bit had barely any seasoning. The dip was a stage tomato based one. Maybe trying to mimic Vietnamese ragu? It's possible, bit it was definitely a miss. Overall, great place for pho and a Viet coffee!

Albeit I haven't had Pho in a while, theirs was amazing from the first sip. And the Bahn Mi also so good. Very flavourful.

The best by far in North Shore! The order is always fast, soup not too salty, grilled chicken is so soft, and the price is right!

Phnom Penh - Fried Chicken

As usual, I'm late to the party. I've heard about Phnom Penh…read moreand its famous chicken wings ever since I moved to Vancouver, nine-ish years ago. My fellow Yelpers raved about this place when I first moved here, and my kid came here with her school pals 5-6 years ago and also raved about the wings. It's been on my list to come here forever - and last night, finally, I did. It did not disappoint. My kid warned me, there'll probably be a line up waiting to get in (they don't take reservations here. I checked), so we decided to go at an off-time and get an early dinner, around 5pm on Friday. We walked there and, miracle of miracle, there was no line and we got seated right away. (Granted, we got the last vacant table in the place, and when we left after our meal, there already was a line of people waiting to get in). Food-wise...wow. I am NOT one for adventurous eating, so there were dishes on the menu I couldn't comfortably order (I wish I could, but hey, I'm better now than I used to be!). Still, there was lots for me to choose from. And first and foremost, I HAD to try the famous chicken wings. And I can honestly say, they were the best I've ever had: SO SO crunchy and crispy on the outside, and hot and moist on the inside. OMG so so so good. I can't speak highly enough of these! My kid ordered the butter beef. It was tasty and soft ("like butta!"), and the marinade was lovely, but personally, I couldn't get over the...rawness and redness of the meat and juice (which looked like blood to me). For fellow non-adventurous eaters out there, this might not be for you, despite how flavorful it tasted. It was just hard for me to get over how it looked. (I know I'm in a minority here. This dish is one of their most popular and asked-for dishes). We had the garlic dry spare ribs. I love spareribs. These were delicious but a tad too salty and greasy. I brought most of them home and had them today for lunch. I gotta say, they were so much better for me today: less salty, and I blotted off the excess grease. Delicious! My kid ordered a "small" sweet and sour soup with prawns, and wow, it came in a huge black cauldren. I can't imagine ordering a large size. Anyhow, this soup was a stand-out soup - especially for my kid who said she had dreams about it all night (lol)! So complex in flavors - spicy, sweet, savory, chock full of prawns and sprouts and lotus shoots and pineapple chunks and and other delicious stuff.... For me, it was a wee tad too spicy, but wow, even I thought, this is a special soup. So delicious and warming. 10/10. Our servers were prompt and impressively able to efficiently tend to a full house of diners. They got it all down to a science here. One issue of note: my kid had to use the washroom at one point and she left for a very extended period of time. I actually thought at one point that something had happened to her or she was ill, she was gone so long (VERY unlike her). When she returned, she told me it was "quite a hike", around the back of the restaurant and up a flight of stairs, too. I only make note of this in case anyone has mobility issues, know that the bathroom will be difficult (or impossible) for you to access.

I only hear great things about the wings here and being a lover of fried chicken I made it a point…read moreto stop here on my quick trip to Vancouver. We came around 4pm so there was no wait but by the time we left at like 5 there was already a line forming outside. We got the wings and veggie fried rice, and it took a bit of time for the food to come out but that didn't bother us. The portion for the fried rice was MASSIVE and could easily feed 3-4 people. It was good, nothing to standout but a very good classic fried rice. The wings came out after and were hot and crispy. It comes with a lemon pepper sauce on the side, which was super lemony - great if you like that but I wasn't too big a fan of it. The wings were juicy and fresh, though I will say I did expect a bit more flavor. There was only one piece at the bottom that had a generous coat of the seasoning which I thought was super tasty. Overall, good spot! I'm not sure I'd wait super long for it, but glad I got to try.
