I didn't think I would have to write such a poor review on one of my favorite pho places.. my friends and i went out for dinner when one of them fainted and hit her head on the floor. A MINOR. The staff just sat back and laughed while we were helping her and bringing her back to consciousness. This is disgusting. We barely touched our food and we still paid! I hope that god forbid this happen again in their restaurant hat they aid and not laugh while someone loses consciousness. Great Broth, lots of meat, fresh vegetables, and good sauces. My go to Pho spot in Annandale. I usually get the #1 or #2. Tripe is always a pleasure. Their Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk is wonderful and so is the boba tea (theirs are frozen). I would also recommend the spring rolls for an app. All in all, the service is always nice and the food is always fast. Carry out took less time than it took to finish this review. My husband and I stopped in on a Saturday night after 9:30pm. We'd been out at Port City Brewery and were in need of some food/dinner. Pho Hot is open until midnight when it seemed only fast food was available. Extra point for them! We both got the Vermicelli Bowl with grilled pork and egg rolls. The portions of pork and egg roll were generous. The pork was very good, but neither of us were fans of the egg roll. I ordered a Thai Iced Tea and thought it was the weakest one I've had to date. I like them strong. We also wish they had some fish sauce on the tables. There was hoisin sauce, sriracha, salt and pepper on the table. Still, good for a late night meal and we'd probably make another stop by after visiting the brewery. read more

I've been going here for a decade, since they've opened. I like that they have a large and open-space to dine with kids. Their pho is just ok for the price. Sometimes, they scrimp on the meat, and sometimes they scrimp on the noodles! Flavoring is not consistent. Sometimes it's a very deep and rich broth, and other days I've gone it's flavorless. I like that they have other options like chicken wings and beef stew. Other dishes are just alright for the price. Service is just like any other Asian establishment. Just quick and not friendly. Great food, bad service. It's such a shame because I'm all about supporting small restaurants and such but the service needs to improve. Came by early Saturday morning- cranky- due to my hangover in need of a quick fix. It's so hard to get the attention of the waiters and often times, we were given slight annoyed looks for asking them to bring this or that. The food: Good pho, great summer rolls. Definitely nothing to rave about but it's in such a good location (heart of Annandale) and the prices are alright. I can only comment on the pho. My bf and I come here when we need our quick pho fix. They are open later than most. It's your standard pho, nothing new or special. The most recent experience was a little out of the ordinary. Our bowls were taking longer than usual. Finally, the manager asked us for our order again. I appreciated that he fessed up to "forgetting" and apologized. Generally they are very fast,and efficient. Payment is accepted up front. They take most major credit cards. read more

This used to be my go to spot because they had the Best vegetarian pho around with faux meat. But they've become unbelievably skimpy with their protein. Skinny 3-4 pieces and the round pieces are quarter size of what they used to be. I've noticed this last 3-4 times I've ordered to go. The prices are increasing but quantity is decreasing noticeably. The service is also piss poor. There's plenty of pho places nearby, especially in the area. If seeking vegan faux meat, there is a vegan pho place in falls church which also serves faux meat which is significantly better. read more

Don is the new management here and it has been a day and night difference. When he sat us down he asked us if is okay for him to recommend a special pho soup that is off menu. We were opened to that. It was the short rib pho. Since that day, we have been returning and ordering just that one. It's that good! His customer service is just wonderful to the point where he even remembers us and became very personable. Not to mention their hours are super flexible. 11am till midnight while other pho restaurant usually closes at 10pm. Finally a decent pho place in Centreville - yes I know I'm reviewing under the Annandale location but it's because I think the one in Centreville JUST took over Pho Lulu's (that place was SO awful). Anyhow Pho Hot is beyond what I would expect from a pho place. I recall being deathly sick one Monday morning and as I mustered up the energy to place a phone order what I typically get is the pho tai with eye round steak slices, the man on the other end asked how I would like it cooked and I told him well done. Then he suggested that I get the lean brisket because the meat stays soft and tender unlike the pho tai meat. So I was thrilled that he even took the time out to suggest that! Already I was feeling better. The staff at the Centreville location is amazing. Super friendly and has a great sense of humor. I'm so glad I have a nice pho place a stones throw from my house. Even friends from DC and Sterling drive out to have dinner there. The broth is full and flavorful, they use extra cinnamon? that gives it a unique but pleasing taste that separates them from other pho places. Thank you Pho Hot! Let me just say, I never post reviews on Yelp. This is my first, and unfortunately it's not a stellar one. My friend and I went to Pho Hot last night after a long day of work. It was the only place open until midnight close to our house and we were both craving a good bowl of pho. I was immediately taken aback by our rude server. The minute my friend and I sit down to order he interrupts us to say that the restaurant was closing in 13 minutes. Which was not true. We had arrived at 11:30 and the restaurant clearly posted that it was open until midnight. I would have overlooked the waiters rudeness had the food been good but the food was another story.. I received my #5 and began putting my toppings on. I immediately noticed the intestine-looking tripe that was underneath my noodles. It was, I kid you not, a ball of flaccid looking tripe. What I saw next was my final straw. I turned over my noodles to discover a curled up RECEIPT IN MY FOOD. Absolutely disgusting. I don't know how a receipt can fall into a bowl of pho without a single staff noticing it. The service was horrible, the pho was watered down, filled with intestines and a dirty receipt. Do not eat here, save your money and eat at home I guarantee you'll never find a receipt in your food there. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. read more

This place isn't too bad. It's reliable/consistent and has fast service. The Pho ain't too shabby either. The prices are reasonable, but not super. This place does have it's major downsides though, so something to keep in mind for future visits: 1. The service here is consistently poor - even flagging a waiter down to get a refill with water is met by complete ignorance. 2. You pay at the counter, which is fine, except the receipts do not include totals, and occasionally aren't even in English, so dividing up the bill, or even trying to figure out if you are being charged the proper amount is impossible. 3. The shopping center is a bit shady, so if you drive a van on your way into the center, expect people to run to your vehicle looking for work. Fortunately, all of the workers find my smart car hilarious, so a simple smile, wave, and pretending I don't know Spanish is enough to get me by. In spite of it's looks, I never feel unsafe here. 4. Make sure you clarify if you want an egg roll (fried or spring/fresh). My friend and I would always go to this place and he would intend to order fried, but ask for spring rolls. He would get upset when they brought out the fresh rolls (which are healthier for you anyways, but that is neither here nor there). I blame number four on him entirely, because he is an idiot, it's just something to keep in mind if you are craving one type of roll and receive another. 4a. The imperial (fried) rolls tend to be a bit (black) peppery - I don't mind pepper, but some people do obviously. 5. The amount of meat you get in your Pho - the large size bowls and the regular sized bowls tend to contain the same amount of meat, so if you are on a high protein diet, order extra meat (although, it's fine for me). 6. Plastic chopsticks, not a deal breaker, but a pet peeve of mine. I prefer wooden (better grip), us whitey's don't possess the Kung Fu grip required to navigate plastic chopsticks. Chopsticks are also a default, so if you haven't mastered the art of chopsticking, don't be afraid to ask for a fork and spoon (you might get teased, but it's better than ending up with your lunch on your shirt... unless you're wearing a stupid shirt, then that might not be so bad). Other than those six and a half things, this place isn't bad. I looked around for other Pho places close to this, and I couldn't find anything that really stood out (most places within a half mile radius were Korean BBQ, which is excellent, but not what I was in the mood for). All in all, this place isn't a bad place to settle for when you are really craving some Pho, and happen to be on 236 in Annandale, and share my laziness when it comes to venturing further than you have to for some munchies. read more

Carol W and I were in Annandale and looking for a quick, light lunch. Going against the local grain, we made the not so obvious choice for pho at what we hoped was appropriately named, Pho Hot. Pho Hot resides in a nondescript strip mall (Is there any other kind?) off of Little River Turnpike. The interior of the restaurant is bright, mustard yellow, and garish. The décor seemed pretty odd, making me think of a Chuck E. Cheese rather than a pho joint. There was nothing in the place that would give you the impression that it served Vietnamese cuisine, which didn't bother me since we were there for the food, not aesthetics. Upon perusing the menu, we noted the usual pho shop suspects. We split an order of the spring rolls (the cold, not fried variety), which I always thought were the summer rolls. What do I know? Anyway, the rolls were a little disappointing as the wrap was a bit dry and tacky. The filling was bland and dry, which was not helped by the lackluster peanut sauce. While the roll disappointed, the pho did not. I had the Tai, Nam, Gau, Gan (thin slices of eye-of-round, well-done flank, fatty brisket, and tendon). The broth wasn't overly salty and possessed a nice meaty flavor with a noticeable hint of spices. Others have noted that the regular bowl ($6.95) is small. I tend to disagree as it's in line with its pho shop peers in terms of size and price. The bowl was stocked with a generous portion of vermicelli noodles and meat and was accompanied by a plate heaping with bean sprouts, Thai basil, jalapeno pepper slices, and a couple of wedges of lime. Overall, it was a significantly better than average bowl of pho. Pho Hot offers a nice change of pace in the Korean food hotbed of Annandale. Pho Hot isn't really convenient to where I live so I wouldn't make a special trip there just for pho. But when I'm in the neighborhood, I won't hesitate stopping in again. Although, next time, I'll avoid the spring rolls. read more

I guess I went here on an off day. I was here with a party of 4. We all order a large #1 with water. All I can say is this, our Pho came out fast, no clumpy noodles, and meat tasted fine. The broth tasted good. Not the best I've had and far from the worst. If I don't have to add any sauces to my broth, then all is good. With this bowl, I could eat as a purist. My only complaint would be the amount of meat. For a large, I would expect more then we got. Not to bad a place. I'd go back here again. The place is clean, and the people were friendly. read more

This pho cured one of the nastiest wine hangovers I've had in years. My splitting headache and occasional nausea were no match for the perfectly cooked noodles and dark oily broth that was nearly sloshing over the brim of the bowl. I didn't see any jalapenos on the plate, but the tenderloin was tasty and the basil and bean sprouts topped it off well. The pho here is terrible. I repeat: TERRIBLE!! Now I love pho and can be a bit picky about pho I think is stellar, but I've never had worse pho in my life! Even the people I went with who aren't picky about their pho at all said they wouldn't return. Honestly, I'm not even sure why it was so awful, it just was! Nothing was right about it. On the upside, the place is pretty clean and spacious and I can't speak on the other dishes, so I guess I'm just suggesting to stay clear of the pho here. It's very rare that I want pho for dinner. To be perfectly honest, it's really only when the woman is in town and starts demanding pho. And since most of the good pho places close around 8 pm, I knew that this place closes after 10. The pho here is just about as meh as it gets. Being that I grew up in Annandale (and that I'm Vietnamese) I can differentiate among Asians. The place was filled with mostly Koreans and Hispanics. There was maybe one other Vietnamese diner in the place...possibly two. The pho is not as flavorful as I'm used to and the meat comes out to you already cooked. This pho will do if you're really jonesing for a bowl but honestly, I'd hold out until you can make a Pho 75 run. They do have a lot of vegetarian options but if you've followed my other reviews, you can see that I don't venture into that realm too often. My gf's iced coffee was pretty weak. She rarely leaves a coffee drink with fluid still in it, but she only took down half of this drink. My nhan nhuc (longan in syrup) had a strange vanilla taste to it. The dining area is pretty large and they have a lot of decorations. Service is pretty quick and efficient. Pay at the register. Here's some tips for eating here, take it or leave it. Stay away from the pho unless you're really dying for a bowl. Stick to the grilled meat options such as the grilled pork over noodles or rice. The only reason that I would eat at this place is because I'm craving for pho and they close late. The pho is not great here, the broth is darker in color and the soup was luke warm. I like my pho to be steaming hot so that the bean sprout will cook in the soup. Also too much onions and not enough cilantro for my taste. This was a first and a last visit for me after getting awful food poisoning from their pho a few years ago. The broth nor beef were fresh which ultimately led to a sickety-sick stomach. Maybe I went on an "off" night where the pho was no longer fresh and was reheated too much and for too long. Whatever the case, I unfortunately didn't have a great experience here. Enter, sit down at the table your server directs you to, and order. When the kitchen hasn't orders to fill, your proper bowl of pho should arrive at your table in just six to eight minutes(!!). I usually only patronize this location because it's just five minutes away from my home... but it's not my biggest reason for eating here, because if it were I'd eat at Pho Hoa (two minutes closer, but blech). There are several things essential to a proper, good bowl of pho: - clear, clean broth both fragrant and flavorful, CANNOT taste of just beef and salt, and should not be murky or fatty. - banh pho (pho noodles) should be chewy, and its chewiness should last about 8-12 minutes... if I could find a noodle that stays al dente longer, then I'd extend the acceptable duration for good quality noodles. It should never smell of anything other than pho. If it carries a fragrance of rice, then the restaurant did not prepare them correctly. - beef should be cut thinly and with the exception of gau, should never be fatty. plentiful is always better than meager. Request "nuoc trong" or lean/clear broth, and eat with their disposable chopsticks (the clorox usually isn't washed off well enough and the odor transfers to your food). Knock one star off because they never refill your drinks and their plastic chopsticks have clorox residue on it. With that said, this restaurant offers better (much better) pho than Pho 75 and all other pho offerings in Northern Virginia (I know because I've eaten at all of them as of the writing of this review) with the exception of Pho 495-- This place is better, but only marginally. Went here twice, but have not ordered Pho. Ordered grilled pork with rice, beef stew with french bread, and taro bubble tea, all To-Go. Grilled Pork: very flavorful, minimal fat, and for this dish alone, would have given 4 stars. Beef Stew with French Bread: Very very very greasy. Very very very fatty. That being said, of course, it was very flavorful. I only found 2 pieces of small carrots in here, and the veggies & herbs that they provide with Pho was also included in here, as well as white and green onions packaged seperately so we have the option of putting it in the stew or not. I would not order this again, although it was tasty, my desk, my mouth, and my clothes were covered in grease/oil after I was done. Although it sat for a good 10 minutes before I ate it, it still was hot enough to burn my tongue and I was too starving to stop and wait for it to cool down! - 1 star. Taro Bubble Tea: More liquid than frozen, obviously made with powder instead of real Taro, as some rare places do. Was mediocre, I think because I wanted it to be a little sweeteter. - 2 stars. Based on the average of the above, I rate the place with 2 stars. I have yet to try the Pho, which may bring the stars up a little, but really.....the Beef Stew was so disappointing, I wasn't sure WHAT some of the stuff in there was! As for the restaurant itself, the two times I've been there it looked really clean and was HUGE for a Pho restaurant. I also really like the menu - they had colored pictures of all the different stuff they put in Pho plus explanations, as well. I love this place b/c the food is tasty, the service is real quick, there's more than enough seating, and it's open real late. the restaurant is more a "cafeteria" style seating, as in the tables and chairs are real simple, and it's a pretty good-sized place. the menu is also simple, which i like, b/c then you don't have to be so confused w/a huge amount of choices to make. price is VERY reasonable. any pho or noodle bowl is a pretty big amount, for not a lot of money. i'm always pretty dang full every time i leave here! their pho is super tasty, and any of their vermicelli bowls are deeeelicious too. for a good, cheap, hearty and tasty meal, i highly recommend this place! read more

My friend and I were already in Annadale and finally decided that we were craving some Pho. The décor inside is odd... with pale yellow walls, it feels more like an Italian restaurant than a pho place, but you can assume it's because it's from the previous owner and restaurant. I ordered my usual Phi Tai with no white onions in it. Our food came promptly and hot. The broth was flavorful and the price was good for the location. As far as Pho spots go, this is always a safe bet. The oversized dining area means that lines are a rare site if any. Their menu has quite a large selection including many more dishes than just Pho (but their pho is aaaawesome). They have a huge selection of bubble teas as well (tried mango today... yum). I come here frequent because I like how there's always parking easily available, the place seems clean and is a nice size dining area so you don't feel cramped...you actually have some space between your table and others. I pretty much order the same thing everytime....the beef stew with noodles. It's really good!! I wish the staff were a little friendlier and more attentive though. After they bring your food, they pretty much abandon you. I had to go hunt the server(s) down to ask for my check and one time had to ask about my food that I had ordered 20 minutes ago.
