First time to this restaurant, wanted to try the food out especially since there were some good comments. We entered and were greeted from a distance by a waitperson to sit wherever we wanted. They soon brought menus, silverware and took our drink order and later returned to take our food order. We had two different waiters bring our drinks, condiments and food. We had 3 different sauce cups brought to us; we asked what they were for, the waiter told us but we had a hard time understanding him. The food was good, my husband liked the chicken and noodles pho and I got something similar to a bun with shrimp and stir fried vegetables with very little and subtle flavor. I was told one of the sauce cups was to be poured into the dish. The vegetable rolls were hardly filled and somewhat greasy. The restaurant was lightly decorated with an Asian flare and music in the background; I would recommend it to be turned down just a tad. There was a customer's baby crying almost the entire time we were there.

Food was good, but the service wasn't. I asked if they could split the soup for sharing, but instead I was given an extra bowl to do it myself. By the time I managed, my food was cold. Overall, not a great experience. I probably won't be a returning customer.

Oh, wow. Has it really been three months since I last churned out a five-star review? Pho Houston in the heart of McAllen really broke me out of my funk. My family and I dropped by here during our Thanksgiving weekend excursion to the Rio Grande Valley, and yes, the name had a lot to do with it. As it turned out, the owner(s) moved south from Houston. I've had my fill of Chinese and Japanese cuisine near the border, but it was my first time having Vietnamese far away from home. The beef noodle pho I had on what was a wet, dreary afternoon did its job of keeping my stomach satisfied for the rest of the day. I loved how flavorful and aromatic it was. Everything from the beef chunks to the noodles were fresh. The egg rolls I had beforehand were an excellent way to start lunch. Since we head toward these parts every year when the weather is cooperative, it's likely a second visit in the future will happen.

Pho broth is really nice. It's not too sweet like other Pho restaurants. The original Pho flavor should not be sweet. The portion is pretty small. The Pho noodle is ok, it's not well done. Meat and topping are decent. Vermicelli and fish sauce are decent but nothing to blow me away. They don't honor the check-in on Yelp, but it's a mom-and-pop shop. I don't think they manage their Yelp page. Probably someone helped them to create the page and never updated it.

Place came highly recommended and so we stopped by for dinner. We were greeted and seated immediately. It's a cute Mom & Pop stop. I was also reassured as there were other Asians dining there! There were plenty of tables full of dirty dishes waiting to be cleaned. The place was moderately full. We got our drink order in right away. We ordered spring rolls and pho. I had the beef and my hubby had a shrimp/pork pho. The spring rolls were delicious. Not convinced that they're home made, but good nonetheless. I do appreciate that Hubby and I got our own sauce to dip. We didn't have to share, which I liked more than I expected. My beef pho was good. It has a lot of hot broth. Noodles were more al dente than I preferred. The beef was generous with the flank steak and meatballs. The broth was good, but I've had better. Maybe it was late and the broth got watered down, but it lacked depth and the flavors weren't balanced. I tried my hubby's pho, which uses a different broth. I believe it was chicken based, but it was lighter and smoother. It was more delicate and rich. I would've preferred that one and would have probably enjoyed it more. My face is on fire(in a good way) and my belly is full! I enjoyed it. Best Pho so far in the Valley. I agree with the other review about the sweetness of the broth. I want that rich, beefy, I spent three days making the broth flavor. Can only give a 3.6 star rating. Portion was just right.

I tried the tenderloin beef Pho here and it was delicious! It's the best Pho i have tried in the valley and owner is super nice as well! I made my order to go and he taught how to cook the beef in the broth so the meat wouldn't overcook. It was perfect and I will def be coming back! read more

Best Pho in the valley hands down! The broth is so full of flavor and the beef is high quality. I ask for my beef uncooked and let it cook up in the hot broth! Highly recommend this place. Their customer service is great as well. read more

We decided to try something new today and saw that this restaurant had great reviews so we gave it a try. Dining here was definitely a 5 star experience. Never thought I'd like spring rolls, but now I'm a fan of them. I ordered the number 5 pho and it was very tasteful. They give big portions and I ate it all, it was too good! The owner was very friendly, customer service was great. Can't wait to be back, definitely recommend this restaurant! read more

I am a avid fan of pho. I've been to I believe all the pho locations in the RGV and I sincerely believe that Pho Houston has the best Pho in the RGV. Not only does it taste better than others, it is a well served portion and it is not overpriced. read more

The only place in RGV for consistently good pho. Broth is really flavorful, meat is perfectly cooked, veggie extras make it a satisfying well-rounded dish. Service is simple and basic, but they're flexible about what they can offer, including special large-group dishes. read more

Living in the McAllen area for less than a year I have not made it a point to visit too many places more than once yet - trying out as many restaurants as I can before repeating too many. But I have made an exception for Pho Houston. I tried it once dining in, and really enjoyed it. Since then there have been a few times I wasn't feeling all that well, but knew I needed to eat something - and found the noodles and broth very much like comfort food. There are a couple of other noodle places to explore and try here, but I feel like when I want a reliably good bowl of noodles I can get it here! read more

Simply the best pho I've ever had- including Seattle, LA, San Francisco. The beef tenderloin is worlds better than the eye round you get at every other pho spot. Super nice owner, good prices. read more

He is pushy guy, trying to get to you buy more for to go food that might goes bad the next day. Two can dine for $35-45, with this economy and the salary the average American made, it is absurd price. By the way, the more you get to know him,the smaller the portion on your order. Trust me on this. read more

BEST PHO & VIETNAMESE FOOD in the Valley. SERVICE is Good. Don't expect to waited on Hand and foot. Most Vietnamese restaurants are family places and they aren't talkers. ASK Questions and they're nice enough to answer. If you want to be wooed by service go somewhere else. This is definetly a Foodie place. A nice place to eat enjoy some conversation and leave. PHO is so delicious! or there plate with steak and veggies cut up with white rice. read more

Really tasty foods, fresh and delicious. I know we will be back for more soon. Fast delivery services as well. Husband got Beef Pho and I got Ga Xoi Mo Soi Chien. Awesome. They were out of Banh Bot Chien but that's fine. This is just an excuse to go back now for me.Thanks for a great meal! read more

I came here with an expectation to eat authentic beef noodle soup and they were met! Very good and fresh soup! The beef was very tender and cooked perfectly! Definitely give this place a thumbs up! It was a bit quiet for 9:30pm although the owners were present and social with the customers, it seemed like the whole family was in the building lol but other than that it's a good place! read more

I visited the area for work and found this place in week 1. It was so good I came back a few more times over a couple weeks and I rarely return to places since my time is limited to try all the establishments in the area. Everything was great and my favorite was the cm bò lúc lc (#19) because it's hard to find a place that does it this well! read more

When my husband and sons went, everyone was nice and the food was great. When I went with them, the older man there was rude to me. He snapped at me about the soda I ordered. I shrugged it off. Then I went back by myself to order the #19 that was so delicious when we were there before. Not only was the gentleman rude again, but the meat wasn't the same cut of meat and was not the same quality of meal as when I went with my husband. The older man also snapped at the waitress as she was trying to take my order. read more

My wife and I love Vietnamese food, and this place served us two delicious bowls of Pho. I can't rate this restaurant on the other food options, but if they taste just as good as the Pho, then pop up google maps and drive over! (Or Siri!) lol read more

I've never tasted pho anywhere else but I certainly like the beef pho from here. Don't forget to order spring rolls! Staff(owners?) are always very friendly and check in on us often to make sure our teas are always full. We love coming here. read more

If you're used to great Vietnamese then you may be disappointed. The spring rolls were only so so and the grilled pork was served with a too thick sauce. I regularly eat at a wonderful place in Port Arthur and am spoiled for anything less than the best read more

Great new Vietnamese restaurant in McAllen. Every dish is genuine and homemade. The fried Vietnamese egg rolls are the tastiest I have ever had. The fried chicken (1/2 cornish hen) was crispy and accompanied by sweet sticky rice and unique dipping sauce. Highly recommend. read more

Food was good, but really a terrible experience with the service. We had a party of 7, and even after repeated requests, 3 of us did not receive our food. Don't understand what the problem was but certainly did not feel welcome and will not return. read more

I ended up waiting over 40 minutes for my food. Several people who arrived after me received their orders first, and two customers who came in after me were actually allowed to dine in, which was confusing since I was told that wasn't an option. When I asked about my order, I was told it would be a few more minutes,but by that point the wait and the inconsistency were really frustrating. I don't mind waiting when it's busy, but the lack of communication and the different rules for different customers made the experience very disappointing.

Simply stated this place serves delicious Pho and teas. I come here at least once a month, love it!read more

We may as well have ordered plain white steamed rice. The restaurant itself was really dark inside and we almost couldn't see our food! The service was nice and our waiter was polite and quick. But other than that, the food itself just wasn't cutting it for us. If we happen to try this place again, I would probably stick to the lo mein and eggs rolls.

For a restaurant that's has not been in this location that long it is evident that management does not pay much attention to appearances.

The food is always delicious, and was one of my go-to spots when I want to introduce friends to something a little different. I especially loved dining on the patio when I bring my dog along. The atmosphere is welcoming, relaxing, and perfect for enjoying a meal outdoors. What kept me coming back, though, is the staff. They are incredibly kind and always make me feel welcome. It's such a nice feeling to be greeted warmly and recognized as a returning guest. I've even celebrated my birthday here, which says a lot about how much I enjoy this place. As a bonus, there's a vintage thrift shop upstairs that I always love browsing before or after my meal. It adds even more charm to the experience and makes every visit feel a little special. I highly recommend the pasta, it's absolutely delicious! The building is decorated nicely with a western theme. There are some taxidermied animals (I noticed the longhorn, and a bobcat), so if you're squeamish about that or vegan I recommend you go find a tofu house. The outside is also nicely done, complete with patio dining tables- but it's so hot this time of year that was not an option for us. Background mysic stayed in the background, adding ambience without stopping conversation. We had no wait for a table, and our server did a great job taking our order. He was friendly, engaging, and efficient. He brought our drinks and one of their loaves of warm bread and butter. The bread is delicious, but I only had one piece to save room for the main course. I ordered the 12 oz. ribeye, a baked potato and a salad. My associate had the Texas T-bone, a salad and some asparagus spears. Both our steaks were cooked as ordered and we both enjoyed them immensely. Mine was so good it did not need steak sauce. I did ask for some extra butter for my potato, and it was promptly brought to the table. The salad was very good, as was the potato (I can get those elsewhere, and for less), but the star of the show was the steak. While their desserts sounded delectable, after my meal I couldn't eat another bite. Prices are on the high side, but this is not fast food, and the service and ambience were excellent. I recommend Saltgrass for a business meal. A romantic date or other special occasion.

The red hot smelled and tasted like it is ketchup based, so for me, gross! I have really been trying to go here for over a month, but since it's a little far from where I normally do my shopping route, it took a very free Saturday to do the drive up. I was greatly satisfied. I am actually trying to see what day I can actually drive up again. Loved the food, totally recommended. I am no expert on Vietnamese food, but from at least 3 places I have tried in the RGV, this is definitely my favorite. I can totally see myself taking as many friends and family to try it out. When my body doesn't feel right, Pho is like getting a massage for my inner body. A soul food that seems to relieve all the ill symptoms. Chicken, beef, and seafood, you cannot really go wrong with any. Add a Vietnamese coffee to that, you are cured already. At Pho Houston, they make it right.
