Don't get me wrong, I love Pho lang tang. I love their Pho. I love their banh mi sandwiches. I love anything Vietnamese, I have been to Vietnam and I loved it !! But Pho Lang tang differs from the opulent colorful Vietnam in one essential way - it was freezing !!!! Bring a cozy jumper or a coat ! To be fair we were sitting at the bar. Quite near the door. It was freezing outside, but come on, turn the heat up a bit - but also the restaurant LOOKS cold. A Apart from one large colorful mural the space is kinda sparse - the area just inside the door is cathedral like in its sparseness - maybe a plant or a divider, maybe some furniture? Would make it more homely - in general the whole place could do with a bit of softening up. From the sparse walls to the "alley" behind the bar ! But the food is great. The staff are great. The food here is amazing!! I get pho every time and have tried a variety of their appetizers. They've never let me down! If you are looking to try the summer rolls I would suggest getting there early because they seem to always sell out (rightfully so because they are delicious). I will say the servers I have had are pretty attentive. Not super amused. We arrived at 3:30pm on a Sunday and they were out of just about anything vegan that we wanted. Our kids didn't eat. We had already committed to being there. I got the vegan pho with added mushrooms and bamboo shoots. There was zero flavor. None at all. My husband got some kind of rice noodle salad thing and it was pretty decent (the reason for 2 stars instead of 1.) Our kids ate off of his. I tried the fried tofu and it was pretty good. *Vegans watch out, some of their menu items labeled vegan are actually not vegan. Our waitress informed us when we asked about it that yes, the menu was mislabeled. Oh- the wallpaper in the bathrooms were pretty amazing, that's about it for me. We will not return. read more

Not the spot for me so I'll keep it relatively short. I forgot to take a picture of my wings because I was extremely hungry (oops, phone did not eat first). They were fine - you can not do all flats which is usually a request I'm willing to pay extra for. I was craving a fresh roll, usually called a summer roll and I was also mildly disappointed in those - there is a pork chunk in the "shrimp and pork" version. I'm sure some people really like this style but I enjoy the fresh style roll to be lighter and the way this one was just didn't do it for me. Great peanut sauce though. This is your best Vietnamese food stop within Cincinnati. They make delightful Bahn mi's and have a special pho French dip sandwich available Tuesday - Thursday. As for appetizers, I'd recommend the salad spring rolls. If you love mushrooms, you must order their vegan salad roll. It's comes stuffed with crimini mushrooms. The peanut hoisin sauce that's served with the dish is the star! It has the perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors with a smooth texture contrasted with crunch peanuts in each bite! So delicious and worth every penny. You get two nicely sized rolls for 4 dollars. The pho is also good. I've tried the chicken and rare beef pho. Unlike other reviewers, I've never had an issue with my bowl of pho being luke warm. Every order I received has been piping hot. I have a couple concerns and the reason why I would not give the pho 5 stars is because of the following: 1) inconsistency-- when I first tried the chicken pho it was jam packed with flavor. However, the past two times I've ordered it, it's tasted watered down and the meat was too over cooked. I've also experienced similar issues with the beef pho. 2) overcompensating-- sometimes the pho is way too oily. It's as if you watered it down and just decided to add lard. I've only had this happen to me once, but my order that day had an unpleasant mouth feel and taste. Sometimes there's also too much black pepper in the beef pho. In agreement with other reviewers, I recommend focusing on using the base ingredients to obtain flavor without depending on the spices you add afterwards. A true beef pho doesn't need that much black pepper. Overall I still like Pho Lang tang and plan on going back for more. It's one of my favorite spots in Findlay Market and they always have pleasant service. Note: on weekends if you go during prime lunch hours you may have to wait in line. Though the restaurant can seat a good number of people, at times you may need to wait 15-20 minutes depending on the size of your party. read more

So we've not eaten out in months due to Covid. We're visiting our son in Cincy & chose to get Banh Mi sandwiches. I requested Chicken Banh Mi. The meat was white meat chicken which is always my preference. It came with strands of cucumber, carrots, lemongrass, & cilantro. The lemongrass was awesome tasting. The chicken I'd say was average. I've ordered the same in Clearwater, FL where I live, & the chicken is more marinated & flavorful back home. The baguette it came on was good, but seemed extra thick. Consistently great food! Pho Lang Thang has been my Vietnamese go-to in Cincinnati since I've moved here, back when they were inside the main Findlay Market area. I like that you can order pho with sliced beef, meatballs, or even tripe if you're more adventurous. Their portions are generous and I personally can't finish a bowl in one sitting. It probably doesn't help that I also like to order their Vietnamese summer rolls as an appetizer. Anyone who has had a one-day old summer roll knows you can't fake fresh - the wrapper gets dry so quickly! I've never been disappointed with their rolls or their peanut sauce. I also want to give a shout out to their Vietnamese coffee! Since the pandemic started, I have gone through 4 bags of the stuff, making it at home with condensed milk. In person, I like that you can get it hot or iced. Lastly, I find that their take-out is just as high quality as their in-house presentation and quality. Adjacent to the Findlay Market in what seems to be a booming area, this place opened at 11 the day I visited, and by the time I entered 11:05 or so it was already quite well-attended. It had a rather industrial, high-volume vibe, and I got quasi-bar seating in front. It's not a full-on vegetarian placae, but the plant-based crowd is clearly a focus for them. Their veggie pho is nice in that it offers lots of options for which ingredients you can get (and you're not getting anything you don't want). I went for the full suite of tofu, mushrooms, and bamboo shoots, and even a medium bowl was quite filling. On first bite, the flavor wasn't overly impressive, but as with many of these soups, the plate of fixins, including bean sprouts, jalapenos, and various leaves, is really what makes it sing. I was quite satisfied by the end of my meal. Still not the absolute peak of veggie soups, but plenty good enough that I would come back to sample the rest of their menu. read more

Solid option for those searching for vegan food. I got the veggie spring rolls, vegan pho with tofu and mushroom, and a tofu rice plate. I thought the food was flavorful and fresh. I also liked that they have sriracha and hoisin sauce besides the usual salt & pepper on each table. They take walk ins and reservations. I paid about $50 for 2 entrees and an appetizer. One of my favorite restaurants. The facilities are clean. Staff is friendly and prices are good. This place is good to go with friends, family, or on a date. Menu changes, mainly prices hiked (like everywhere) BUT ALSO BE ADVISED after 4pm (lunch) they no longer serve/make Banh Mi sandwiches or any sandwiches. Staff even mentioned they have several customers that end up just leaving (as we did) because that was the sole reason they/we came in to eat. Maybe it doesn't affect their bottom line. Maybe there just too difficult to incorporate in the menu after 4:00pm??? ‍‍‍Either way we were that at 4:15pm, and disappointed to learn this. I feel bad writing this because I loved my experience in their old Findlay market location and I was so excited to finally try their new and bigger location just opposite Findlay market. The place wasn't too busy for a Saturday evening but got packed by the time we left. Between my friend and I, we ordered 3 things. We split the vegan salad roll. He got the Pho with meatballs and I got the vegan Pho with tofu and mushrooms. The vegan salad roll doesn't pack the same punch or it's just not the same anymore. I've loved their salad rolls in the past and I've had the ones with shrimp and pork and this wasn't even close. Their peanut sauce is still pretty good. Coming to Pho, my friend thought his meatball one was alright. Just alright. I didn't like mine. The broth wasn't flavorful and felt almost bland. I tried reviving it with hot sauce on the tables. The ambience of the restaurant reminds me of a typical Vietnamese restaurant in Vietnam (from the signs to the decor and music) so the ambience was perfect - however I'm a food reviewer- I only care about taste. The service was also just ok - it was a bit slow. We had 1. banh mi thit nuong- the meat wasn't grilled and lacked flavor. The mayo tasted like American mayo (not Vietnamese) 2. bun thit nuong- the noodles were iced cold (it should be warm or at least room temperature- the meat was also so bland 3. Pho- the broth had no flavor - and the broth was dark when it should be clear and yellow. 4. coffee- it was watered down (not like a traditional strong drip Vietnamese coffee 5. mango soda - was a total let down This location is a nice location close to Findlay Market - you pay a premium price but the food was not premium. Left the bag behind the counter for 20 minutes saying it wasnt ready to realize they left it on the counter so 1. the foods cold, 2. they left out 2 things from the order. This was one of my favorite places but I must say they are slowly losing my business. Today when I ordered a carry out order, I ordered an extra side of beef broth because I feel like they never give me enough broth on the take out orders so Im willing to pay extra. However, when I got home and saw that I was only given about a cup of beef broth after I had paid extra money for this, I was greatly disappointed. My father in law wanted to take us here on the market day. Parking was difficult, but TOTALLY worth it. Used to love Pho Lang Thang when it was a hole in the wall inside the Findlay Market. Their pho better than Pho 96 in West Chester and the wife and I agreed. We used to frequent PLT at least once a month for a couple of years because there was no serious competition. When they moved to their current location we tried it once or twice and hadn't been back since then. In part, we lived so far in the suburbs. Still in parts we thought Lang Thang's execution was not that impressive at the new location to warrant us to continue the long drive out to the OTR. Finally, 3 years later i decided to give it a try on a Friday night and how disappointing. 8:00 pm on a Friday w/ only 4 tables & 2 people at long bar were occupied. Not a good sign on any measure. Ordered the chicken wings & I was pleasantly surprise I got the traditional fish sauce wings, excellent execution. I wanted the pho but i didn't smell pho in the restaurant so i stuck to my rule: when you can't smell the pho aroma in the restaurant, don't order it. Ever! So the only thing that caught my eyes on the menu is the broken rice dish special. Typically the steamed broken rice is served with 1) roasted rice powder infused pork skin and pork slivers 2) a fried egg 3. a steamed loaf like egg, ground pork, vermicelli rice noodle, wood ear mushroom mixture 4. grilled pork, pork chop, or beef short ribs 5. some veggies on the side 6. all held together by the mixed fish sauce They ran out of the grill pork, so i settled for the "wagyu" shaken beef. Not the best option for the broken rice dish but I kept an open mind. The plate came out near perfection to the eyes except for the shaken beef. It was completely blackened, the meat was crusted by char on at least one side of the beef cubes. The reason you shaken or toss the beef in the wok is so that the beef would sear but not charred to a crust on the bottom of the pan. The sauce had thicken so much meant only what I feared: it has been reduced to a point of saltiness that made it a struggle to eat. Every instinct I had in my mouth and body was to send it back to the kitchen but I felt bad for doing that for some strange reason so I pressed forward and waited to see the second part of my dinner to see when it will be delivered...it never arrived. The mixed fish sauce that was supposed to be poured over my broken rice, fried egg and pork skin slivers never arrived. I finally asked for the sauce and the bar boy brought out the wrong sauce, the same salty sauce that was covering the heavily salted "wagyu" shaken beef. Before I could speak up and tell him it was the wrong sauce he already left to go to the back out of sight. When he finally came back I asked him the fish sauce for the broken rice not more sauce for the shaken beef. Every bite of the beef I had to eat up the veggies and the still plain broken rice, sipping water as I suffered silently...still deciding either to stop eating and send the protein back or what?? The sauces finally came and it was obvious the bar boy didn't know which sauce so he brought me the mixed sauce and the straight fish sauce he poured out of a bottle (slap my forehead emoji here). I sent back the pure fish sauce because I didn't want him to waste it. I stupidly pour the mix sauce over my rice because I trusted the cooks in the back knew what they were doing. while the pork skin, the veggies and the baked pork loaf were perfect, the broken rice was slightly under cooked, with each bite their were enough grains of rice undercooked that made the experience underwhelming and yet it wasn't the worse of it, the mixed fish sauce was completely sour. Someone had either forgotten the sugar or had no idea how to properly mix it and it was never simmered to the correct consistency for the broken rice plate. Finishing my meal was a practice of suffering in silence. Growing up it was grilled into me to finish my meal so I stupidly press on knowingly anything with the word "wagyu" will result in a big tab. So I pressed on. It was a bizarre out of body experience. I was not happy by the end of that meal. Not happy with myself that I pushed my self through all that suffering in silence. I am usually not that much of a push over. Was I am more polite and forgiving because I thought that the haoles running the restaurant are under trained, inexperienced, didn't know what they were doing and therefore I should give them more leeway to fail? Hands down the best Pho in the city. This guy does a full flavored broth that is rich, deep and exotic. Everything you want in your Pho.
