New Vietnamese restaurant in a quaint space on Cary. I went here today for lunch on a whim because I'd noticed they had a couple vegan options. I only intended to share some "egg" rolls with my friend but when it came time to order, they let us know that they had a new vegan pho!! So, of course, we each got a bowl along with the rolls. Vegan egg rolls: came out fast and hot but not too hot that we had to wait 10 minutes to touch. Served with a sweet and sour dipping sauce and a small pile of pickled veggies. SILENCE fell as we ate them, simply delicious. Vegan pho: came out at the perfect time, just as we finished the rolls. I would've liked for it to be served a little hotter but the flavor compensated more than enough. Absolutely loaded with a wide assortment of veggies and while I couldn't identify everything I picked out, I loved all of it. It was a little pricier than I expected but it was well worth it. After reading all the good reviews thought it was worth a try, but it left me with disappointment. I had Chicken Noodle Soup for $9.75. It was bland and it didn't taste like an authentic pho at all. The egg rolls were salty. Their serving portions were small and pricey. And for the service, zero stars. We waited for 20mins plus for our food. There were two servers that night and the owner helped around too. Unfortunately, the lady server forgot to put our order in after all the tables who came after us were served. And the worst experience was that our server never admitted to her mistake. There were no apologies. I hope they learn to apologize and respect their customers. That would be the first and last visit. We don't want to be treated that way ever again. I would not recommend this place. Try Pho at the West End! :-) read more

Excellent beef pho in a very hipster environment. Also, on Fridays there's a free chicken broth refill, which I've never heard of before. They have vegetarian friendly appetizers, but we were focused on the pho since we had gotten trapped in the rain at Maymont. Happy hour includes $2 off cocktails, so we tried the thai iced tea and vietnamese coffee based ones. Only complaint was how long it took for our pho to come out (maybe 30 minutes?) and slow service. Rate it a 3.5 for it's inconsistency Both my friends had a lot of noodles and when mine came out it had about two chopstick/slurp worth of noodles. My friend said her noodles were fine and they were cooked through unlike my bowl of pho The broth wasn't bad but the noodles also didn't have any flavor and wasn't cooked long enough. They normally soften up the noodles with the broth soup so the noodles absorb some flavor when it's placed into the bowl, but this was softened up in hot water and then placed into the bowl- according to my taste buds They def. need more than one waitress/waiter cause they were really busy and she was doing everything on her own which could be overwhelming with having to clean, take checks, seat, and serve She was rocking it though! read more

Definitely has a nice ambiance that you can sense when you walk in. We had a little bit of a wait, but the service was EXCELLENT. Continually checking in on our group and started brief conversation from the moment we walked in. That was definitely something I wasn't expecting, but was refreshing to have. The meat looked like deli meat you get from a grocery store deli. Overall it lacked flavor and texture was off. My date stated "this is the worst banh mi I've ever had". But Pho Lucas brings the rich nuanced broth back. We had the eye of round and a spice bomb added, and this pho took us back. Now nothing else will do. Add friendly, informative service, and you can't go wrong. They were slammed on a Friday night, and the owner, Dominic, came out to profusely apologize for our wait, but I don't know what he was talking about. I first tried these wonderful folks' food during the full blown lockdowns in 2020. They were take out only. I drove all the way from where I work in Chesterfield near Hull & Courthouse to see what all the hulabaloo was about on RVA Dines FB page. I picked up my food and felt the concern, as the elderly gentleman, with tears welling up in his eyes, answered my question, "How are things going?" The food was fantastic and it wasn't because I pitied him/them. More recently in August, one of my adult Vegan daughetrs and I had a splendid lunch! Many restaurants offer full Vegan options or can Veganise a dish. I'm impressed that this place is intentional about offering Vegan option on their normal menu. There are many ethnic restaurants, like Hispanic ones in my case, that sink into that scene from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" movie, ("YOU NO EAT NO MEAT...Ok, I give you lamb.") These folks here get it. The food teems with love and care and flavors, yet elevated from a run of the mill, in a house, cash only, type spot. The ambiance and vibe is awesome, and it didn't hurt that it was 4,000 degrees outside and their AC was nice and cool. That pho was amazing! I had the rare eye round steak and it was perfect! I added the spicy bomb in it which was great flavor but I could've had more spice. My spice tolerance is high. The broth was excellent, we both got the brisket as the meat option which was great and we also got the fried spring rolls and those were TO DIE FOR. They even held up in the car on the way back, so I highly recommend even if you are doing takeout. Everything was packaged up great which made transport a breeze to home. My husband and I went to Pho Luca's for the first time and we enjoyed it so much! The staff were friendly, the food was delicious and the price was right . We started off with the fried imperial rolls, so crispy and yummy. My husband got the fried chicken and rice, the rice was garlicky (yum) and the chicken was crispy and juicy. I got the pho and enjoyed it very much. The brisket in the pho was my favorite, nice and fatty, melts in your mouth! A large serving of noodles too, which was a plus. Thinking about lunch, I was in the mood for a good Banh Mi, which can be hard to find in Richmond. Pho Luca's had some positive reviews, so I thought I'd try it. It's pretty small, and parking can be a little challenging, but once seated, I was greeted by a friendly bartender/server, and ordered my sandwich. 4 stars for the super nice owner!!! Okay, let me preface this by saying that I will be back just to try the pho. Since my friends and I came here to get quick take out, we ordered things that were less finicky to eat on-the-go, like bahn mi and vermicelli bowls. Based on our experience, the bahn mi is really not their strong suit. The bread was pretty stale and the fillings very bland! We come from an area with a high Vietnamese population and grew up eating delicious pate bahn mi, so this bahn mi was very disappointing. The vermicelli bowls were slightly better but still somehow on the bland side. Our meals came with a little plastic cup of broth, which was delicious and tasted well-seasoned. Perhaps to advertise their strongest product? The smell of pho broth around the storefront is also very enticing. Food itself was a 3 star experience but the owner was super nice and friendly, so 4 for service. I also have hopes that the pho is good, so I will update this review when I get the chance to try it. read more

I was stunned by how bad my experience here was. The pho was super bland, watery even. Very few accomplishments to help much on flavor. To top it off when I requested fish sauce after telling the waiter it was quite bland, he offered me the hoisin sauce on the table saying it was fish sauce. No it's not. He returned telling me that was the only fish sauce they had. They disappeared and then still charged me for the soup that I didn't eat. The broth here is really good. Like for a vietnamese person really good. Don't know what the negative reviewers experienced, but I thought service was fast, prices are better than most (I have no idea what the reviewer was saying about it being expensive!), and everyone is friendly. For egg rolls, spring rolls, and two bowls of pho, it came to $30. Portions are decent as well. Egg rolls are done the traditional Vietnamese way which is wrapped in rice paper and not wheat wrappers. The menu is small but I think this is a good thing. That means they can focus on doing the few things really well. And if the beef broth is out that day it's because it is a very time cumbersome thing to do when you're making broth that has been simmering for 8-10 hours. It's means that they're doing well by selling out and good for them. Also parking is just the deal when you're going to Carytown. Same as all the other Pho places around here. Definitely does not beat the taste of Pho Tay Do. I was very surprised that their vermicelli dishes came with egg rolls....
