    Chim Cut Quay

I had heard a lot of this place and finally got to try it while in Richmond. The menu is very extensive so it's hard to pick what you want with so many options. This is what we got: Crispy Spring Roll: perfectly cooked classic spring roll. Pan fried Pork Dumplings: these were average. They were fried properly and felt they were pre-made and warmed in the microwave Chim Cut Quay: whenever i see quail on the menu i get it. The portion size was good but the quail was very tough to eat. Typically quail is tender and juicy but this was dry and tough. Bo Xao Thap Cam: This was your typical Beef with Vegetables. It was decent and the sauce was flavorful. Overall it's an average place. Definitely not worth going out of the way.

We always make a point to eat at Mekong when in Richmond. Enjoy their rice noodle bowls, and still working our way through the other vegetarian options on the menu. The beer list is a big plus, too. Staff are friendly and fast. Really enjoyed the yellow curry tofu dish - ate it so fast I didn't get a pic!

The food was flavorful and the drink variety was vast. We sat at the bar and were quickly attended to.

Parking's a little rough in the front, but there's a lot in the back...just be ready for it to be packed. Luckily, even though it was busy, we got seated right away, and our waiter was amazing--super attentive the whole time. I also loved that the bill was handwritten.. it took me back. The decor and vibe made me feel transported back to the 90s. The beer list is massive, and they do cocktails too, but don't expect the full lineup. I asked for a mojito, but they didn't have mint, so I went with a Moscow mule. It was fine, not the best. The food, though? So good. The crispy veggie spring rolls were perfect, and the pan-fried dumplings had great flavor, even if they were a little doughy in spots. I got the Dau Hu Xao Lan which is crispy tofu curry (added spicy), and it was honestly some of the best tofu I've had in a long time (it's hard to make tofu well). Though it could have been more crispy in my opinion. Super affordable, great service, and I'll 100% be coming back.

I got the house special pho Dac Biet ($13) and a viet iced coffee ($5). The food came out in about 15 minutes. The broth wasnt my personal favorite as it was on the sweeter side. There was only meatball and sliced beef in there combination pho which seemed weird as other places would have a bunch more meat types in it. The viet coffee was quite solid. The inside was very nice and surprisingly big. Overall I wasn't a fan of the pho broth being sweet which is just my preference, but I probably won't come back. The service was fairly quick and the place was BUSYYYY. I honestly never knew this place was packed or good the way it was. There is so many food and drink options to choose from. The place was well lit and you had decent distance between tables. I thought it was cool you could buy merch on your way in or out. The food was sooo good. My only tweak is the dumplings were very doughy.

Super fast service, but also makes you feel a little bit like they're rushing you out of there. The spring rolls were nothing special, but good. I got the rare beef pho and it was amazing. The regular size it definitely incredibly filling. My boyfriend got the giant size of the spicy and he ate every drop. Definitely felt like a good price for everything, it was about $36 for us both.

Always the best. Cozy ambiance, quality service, football Sunday, good beer, whiskey selection, spicy pho and salad.

Loveeee Mekong! My husband and I come fairly often and always have a great experience. It's normally pretty packed in there, but the service is good, sometimes a little slow but nothing terrible! We love their extensive beer selection and the apps :) We went last night and got the mon an Choi (appetizer sampler) which was just absolutely delicious. The phô is decent but I will say, there are better options in the area. If you love beer and Vietnamese food, would recommend!

Our go to place in that part of Richmond. The space is open and has plenty of seating. I had a tofu dish which was very good. The servings were large. There is always a great beet selection. The issue at this visit was the service. No one came to seat us for a while despite many people (who worked there) walking by us. We finally were seated by someone who obviously didn't want to be there. We wanted a dish but the waitress told us we wanted something else. Service was definitely off but food was good as usual.

What happened? Lacklusterservice and dried up chicken that tasted like it was cooked 10 hours ago. Has Mekong jumped the shark?

There were a ton of tables lined up outside with a variety of vendors. Then you head inside to see even more! Everyone was very kind. Up front there's a large beer selection with a few ciders and seltzers. My husband and dad chose to get a flight of 6 beers where they explained that they take regular beers and spruce them up with different flavors and such. I'm not a huge beer person but I got a cider, forgot the name but it tasted like apple pie, and it was delicious. I also got chips and cheese and although they were your cheap gas station chips with some microwaved cheese they were only $4 and I was happy with them. They were a nice snack while we sat and chatted. The staff was very kind. My only complaint is that the cheese dip cups are smaller than the chips lol, you have to breaks the chips in half to dip them! And they're tiny chips!

We were there for a Monday lunch, can't speak to the dinner service. We also weren't drinking alcohol that day, though I thought the beer flights looked tempting. One of us had a cheeseburger that was requested to be "pink" and was overcooked and just blah. One of us had a chicken salad that was served with no chicken. Someone from the kitchen rushed out with a soup bowl filled with chicken slices that looked like those Perdue rotisserie chicken slices you buy at the grocery store. Dumped them on the salad. She did apologize. Our third order was a Restaurant Week special fried oyster salad vouched for by our server, Bailey, who was pleasant and efficient. It came with corn, black beans, mixed greens, cotija cheese and a spicy dressing. It wasn't awful but I think the overall concept was weird. Fried oyster taco salad? The few oyster pieces were tasty. Maybe we were there on a bad day, which happens. The chicken salad fiasco was funny. Not a place I would drive across town to try twice. Maybe stick to burgers and plenty of beer.

They have a variety of glassware on hand in different sizes, so it's easy to create your own flight or to just pour a full pint. I had never visited a similar establishment in the past, so I had about 20 questions on how to operate everything. Here's the rundown: 1) Walk up to the cashier and give them your credit card. They will swipe it, give it back, and provide a card to access the taps. 2) Check the TV screen for the full digital listing of their available taps, or walk right up to the taps and read each individually. You can click on the beer name for a full description, including style, price per ounce, and abv. 3) Pick a glass, place the access card in the little slot, be sure you're on the main screen, and then pull the tap handle that corresponds to the beer. Each screen has two, with the taps beneath. Hold your glass at a 45-degree angle unless you're pouring cider, in which case it doesn't really matter. 4) Take your card, pick a seat or stand, and drink your beer. Repeat. 5) When you're ready to leave, walk back up to the cashier, choose your method of payment (I chose to just leave it on the same card...easy), select a tip, sign, and you're good to go. I tried six samples during my time there -- all about 3-4 ounces or less -- and paid $12 pre-tip. This is an excellent place to try a variety of beers. I imagine most names are recognizable...they carry stuff from Ardent and Isley, among other local and regional spots, but others aren't the easiest to find, such as Funky Buddha. RVA Draft Room is in the same open-format building as Zzaam, a tea place I forget the name of, and Sweet & Sassy BBQ. It's also centrally situated in Carytown. I didn't like the seating...I found it really uncomfortable. I think they need to invest in purse hooks and perhaps some stools with backs. I had to keep standing up to avoid hurting my back. Beyond the subpar seating, everything else was nice, and I think it's cool that they offer free tasting events as well. I'm sure I'll return at some point!

If you are looking for casual food options but also want a drink... this is probably your spot…read more There is Zzaam where you can get Korean food and then Sweet and Saucy if you want BBQ.... there is also a drink/dessert spot Kokee Tea where you can get bubble tea, or ice cream in a puffle cone. Basically you can sit at any of the spots each little restaurant gives you a number if you ordered anything and they deliver to your table. If you want beer you will need to see the attendant and get a card so you can self serve yourself beer, cider or wine. Supposedly they cap you at 64 oz but as long as you are not wasted of anything they say they can override it if you get to that point. As far as the spot goes.... it's very family friendly. Though I wish it was bigger than what it is. I also don't get why a lot of beer places are going for bar chairs and table tops instead of regular height tables and chairs. That would be my only complaint not the most comfortable. Though where the food options are there are normal tables and chairs but limited. Plus if you get there around noon half the tables are difficult to sit at due to the incredible sun that comes through... it would probably be better if they get some blinds. The draft room has games you can rent it seems like since the attendant oversees it. We brought our own since we weren't sure if they had anything to occupy our three and a half year old. As both my husband are beer, wine and cider drinkers you would think this would be heaven.... but we were both kind of disappointed with the selection. We drink just about all beer, wine and cider but we felt like the selection kind of lacked. Just to give you an idea of our favorite RVA breweries/cideries.... Strangeways, Hardywood, The Answer, Busky are probably our top places. I feel like if you are expecting something like any of the four I mentioned you may come out pretty disappointed. Though because of the food options and how it's casual, both my husband and I said we would be back since it's pretty family friendly. It's nice that it's not just one food truck option like most breweries or no options for food. So if you are hungry and are wanting to do some tastings definitely check it out. On another note... parking is kind of a pain since it's in Carytown... definitely stinks in the winter. My bet is when it gets nicer, traffic will really pick up since it looks like they have some nice outdoor seating!
