It's been a while since I've visited the fine folks at Saigon Rendezvous, so it was time for another trip and a big bowl of tasty goodness. Fresh spring rolls & some deep fried prawns were first, followed by a hot steaming bowl of Tom Kha Gai, which was insanely good. Then came a very full belly and lots of smiles. Oh yes, there was Thai coffee too, because I was in the mood for a sweet treat. It was a rainy, blustery day, so the restaurant wasn't busy and parking was easy. I had a chance to try the Saigon Pho and beef Pho. I was disappointed in the flavor. It was a sweet tasting broth. The bean sprouts, basil, and other accompaniments were fresh. If you like sweet pho, then this will work for you. The Saigon wings were amazing. The service was ok but as the place got busier it was a bit lackluster. I've wanted to try this place for a while now, I was a little worried because it was quite empty when I went in but I was very pleasently surprised with the food. I ordered the panang curry for 16 dollars. It's a little pricey but if you're willing to spend the money I think it's worth it. Cleared out my sinuses with the spicy kick. The pho was fantastic! The portion is very generous and i went with a Saigon Pho combo that had tripe, meatballs, and brisket for about $15. I came in with a group of 3 and a toddler and we all went in with a craving for a warm bowl of pho. We almost lost focus at the mention of pad see ew and pad thai but the pho bowls are big, they come with a lot of meat, and it will definitely fill you up. I even had what seemed like a regular serving of pho leftover to take home and I really felt I had eaten a lot. We ordered the shrimp spring rolls as well and they came out at the same time as the pho. I may have just been more excited for the pho but I didn't love these. They tasted like just cabbage and shrimp but I did love the peanut dipping sauce. read more

I found myself in Olympia with a grumbly tummy. I happened upon Saigon Rendezvous by chance, with a parking spot right in front, so I took that as a sign to satiate my hungry stomach and try a new Thai place. I'm so glad I did. The outside certainly presented itself with a "dive-y" feeling, but I kind of like dives. I find they may not look pretty, but they usually have great food. Upon entry, the place was clean, roomy and plenty of available seating. The bathroom was clean and I always think that is a good sign! The seats, however, were definitely NOT curvy, hippy, big butt girl friendly! In fact, they were down right uncomfortable. So, be forewarned!! IF you have curves, the seats are not friendly. I ended up sitting very forward in the metal chair, because my hips just could not tolerate the pain. Besides that one negative, the rest of the review is positive. Because, the food was delish! I settled on my usual shrimp fresh rolls with peanut sauce and a bowl of chicken pho. The rolls were stuffed with yummy, crispy lettuce, carrots, sprouts, shrimp, cilantro, accompanied by a delicious peanut dipping sauce. Both were really tasty. The pho broth was sublime. So flavorful. The chicken in the soup was plentiful and the bean sprouts, lime and Thai basil were absolutely fresh. This meal made my grumbly tummy happy. The portions were substantial and enough for me to take half home to enjoy for my dinner! Yes! This is definitely a "dive" I plan on coming back to when I find myself in Olympia. Our meal was five eggrolls to start, a chicken fried rice plate, a turkey veggie stir fry, and a chicken coconut curry with rice. All meals got good marks for flavor & texture. Downside of this eatery is its location in the heart of downtown Olympia, complete with the unsavory characters (pick your unsavory of choice - unkempt & unwashed, stoned, talking to invisible people, grocery cart homeless, raving mad, indigent, leftover hippies of any & all ages, outsiders & outcasts & dropouts, panhandlers of varying levels of aggression & audacity, the whole spectrum is on display) who've pretty much taken over the area. For those not used to the combat zone mentality, it's intimidating. For the rest of us, it's just an extended stroll on constant condition orange. We were driving through and decided we wanted some pad Thai on a Sunday night, which is not always easy to find. This place had good reviews and was on the way. They were out of Bahn mi sadly, but it was getting to be about 8pm. So we each got chicken pad Thai and crab wonton. The crab wonton were the best I've ever had!! And it's my favorite appetizer so I've had a lot! Had so much flavor and they were packed full and cooked just right! I however wasn't a big fan of the pad Thai, the chicken was a bit under done and it had a odd flavor, maybe too much oyster sauce or something, and I've never had it come with lettuce on it before. I wanted to try this place because it had bon bo hue. Unfortunately, their menu changed and they didn't have it anymore to I opt in for the short ribs with rice and fried eggs and got a chicken fried rice as well. I had one of the ribs and thought they were good, however as I got to the bottom meats, I noticed they were very charred which made the meat tough. Also, the seasoning/marinade for the short ribs was overly sweet. There was the Vietnamese fish sauce on the side, and when I combined it with the short ribs, it became even more sweet. So, my whole dish was just sweet tasting and it made me not wanna eat cause all I was tasting was sugar. The chicken fried rice was average. For those who grew up here or have been around a long time, Saigon Rendezvous was a dirty, terrible place that you'd find yourself in just before closing, having been kicked out of the bar next door hoping beyond hope that you could head off an impending hangover by dousing it with really bad food. THAT HAS ALL CHANGED! I can only guess that new ownership has changed this place for the better. The food is very good, with authentic Vietnamese flavors (I'm a snob, having moved from the ID in Seattle where I could find great vermicelli or bahn mi anytime).The Pad Thai is excellent too. Give this place a shot, I'm sure they are battling against the reputation of years of really shitty food and they deserve to survive. This place was the best pho I've had! I'm from California & stayed in Olympia for 2 weeks. I've had several pho spots during my stay but this one was by far the best! Customer service: I'd give 5/5! The gentlemen working in the front was very friendly and attentive! Atmosphere: Clean place, it appears they remodeled definitely has an updated feel. Their restaurant was very spacious and it felt like a hip place to grab a bite with friends and family. Taste: Rangoons were delicious! Definitely would order again and the portion were right amount for the price. Pho was delicious. The meats were very tender and broth tasted clean. The portion was on a tad smaller side, but with appetizer it was the right amount. Chicken pad see ew was tad salty for my taste. But would still give (4.5/5). This might be the worst Thai food we have ever had. We ordered the Se Ew (drunken noodles), Pad Thai and pineapple fried rice. Everything was super bland and tasted like burned oil. Tried this place for the first time today and we were not disappointed...the food we ordered was very good, the staff was professional and courteous, and the atmosphere was as expected--nothing glam, but serviceable. The Saigon Pho was very good--on par with any we've had since coming to Olympia one short year ago. The pork Bahn Mi was first rate--well seasoned with crispy bread and succulent pork strips. We also ordered pot stickers---and while surprised that they were fried crispy all around, they were delicious. Waiter was great, friendly, and professional. Only one deleterious note, but this isn't peculiar to this pace, but is found in many restaurants around Olympia (and elsewhere, to be frank)--the condiment containers on the table hadn't been cleaned (perhaps ever!). I don't understand this and I am always surprised when I go to a restaurant and they actually HAVE been cleaned! That said, I see more visits to Saigon Rendezvous in our future Recommend. read more

This place was so good. We got the shrimp fresh rolls, beef and meatball pho, and panang curry. Along with Thai tea and Vietnamese coffee. 5 stars for food and drinks BUT we did encounter some problems. There was a small bug in my girlfriend's pho (that didn't even come with the meatballs), and there was lipstick on her cup of water. We didn't let the waiter know because we decided to eat it anyway, and just asked for a straw for the water. We're pretty laid back people. Everything was so delicious though. 10/10 for taste of food, 5/10 for cleanliness, 9/10 for service read more
