This place has great Pho for a great price! The portions are huge and everything was delicious. I got the regular and for $9 I had two meals - the large is probably a third bigger and only a dollar more! The restaurant decor is very basic and you'd walk right by the place if you didn't know it was there, and I wish they had a liquor lisence or at least sold beer. If you're looking for atmosphere this may not be your place, but if you're looking for a hot and nourishing bowl on the cheap, this is definitely your place! read more

This is the best pho I've ever had and the service was excellent. They do such a great job with everything.

First a little disclosure. I'm in town on business from Orange County, CA where we have Little Saigon. This is not even close and a couple of the places on Federal are much more authentic. Food 2 Stars I was originally going to order my favorite Bun Bo Hue but I felt it was not going to be authentic from the description. Instead I had the #19 Pho. Based upon the Pho I'm glad I didn't order the Bun. I would have been more disappointed. The beef was fine, but it was the broth. It tasted like watered down beef bullion. It was very very bland without the rich flavor that should be present. A lack of proper seasoning and short cooking time minimum of 12 hours. Also a little Cilantro along with the Basil would have been nice. Then there was no Crushed Chili Oil. That's a sin. A couple of the places on Federal come much closer. What else can I say.. This place is THE BEST. I have eaten in house as well as ordered takeout and regardless of the method of retrieval, the quality is always fantastic. Authentic broth, fresh and plentiful ingredients are always provided. In addition to the amazing pho, the service is outstanding. My boyfriends car became stuck in the snow after our last blizzard and they stayed open 30 minutes post-closing so he could still get our takeout. Located right across the street from the Capitol building, finally a more central place to compete with the places on Federal! As pointed out already, the building has been quite a few places but you can tell straight away that this wasn't just a quick make over, the interior has been entirely remodeled and is clean and bright and the staff were fast and friendly. I ordered a medium bowl with chicken and apart from putting in too much rooster sauce, it was awesome. I also had a smoothie with the little jelly balls that if you leave long enough, swell up so they wont make it up the straw :O) read more

First time for pho. Total newbie. Won't be my last. This was my first venture in to pho (apperently pronounced "fuh") and I really liked it. If you've seen pictures of it and think that it's noodles and other stuff in a bowl of broth, you're right. It's a really good soup. I had mine with rare steak and tendon. When in Rome...right? It was delicious. I'm not sure if the tendon is for consumption or to enrich the broth, but I ate some anyway. I also got the Vietnamese coffee with the sweetened condensed milk on bottom. Wow, that's like candy. I recommend it as a nice dessert and would probably cool down your palate if you order something extraordinarily hot. Just the tip - go early if you're going at lunch. Subpar pho. Our bill was only $12 for a couple of waters and two small bowls of pho, so I'm not really complaining, but I am disappointed with what I got. After experiencing the magic of Pho 95 a few times over, I don't know if anything else will ever compare. But Pho-natic is nowhere near Federal so it would be unfair to compare them to 95. I got the usual Chin, well done brisket. The bowls were noticeably smaller, and they kind of skimped on the noodles and the meat. We went at a weird time, 430 or so, so maybe that had something to do with it? But still. Also, it seemed to me that the noodles were undercooked, and the meat overcooked. It was not as tender as I'd like it to be, and my companion agreed on both of those things. I still LOVE pho and it's not like it was inedible. I enjoyed my meal, and the service was great. The decor is really nice and modern too, but didn't feel like much of a Vietnamese restaurant to me. If I'm on Colfax and am craving Pho as deeply as I was that day maybe I'll hit Pho-natic again, but chances are I'll make the trip to Federal. read more

Yesterday I went to Phonatic for the 4th time and it will definitely be my last. The previous times I went in the evening and everything was to my liking. I dig their broth, the eggrolls are tasty (although at $4 for 2 not a great value) and it appears to be clean (a problem with many pho joints.) One thing they could do better is put chili paste at the tables. Why will I not be back? Because their service this time was atrocious and cost me a $25 parking ticket. Let me explain. I saw they open at 10 am and I was already out and about so I walked in at 5 after...then promptly stood around for close to 15 minutes before the hostess/waitress came out from the back and noticed me. Ordered my pho (switched it up from my usual tofu and got the rare steak) along with some egg rolls. Was told the egg rolls would be 10 minutes. No problem. About 15 minutes later they came out. Most pho eaters know the soup usually comes out pretty quick. Not this time. Another 20 minutes after I finish the eggrolls the pho comes out, and it's LUKEWARM. First of all, if you say you open at 10 am but really aren't ready for customers until 11am, just open at 11am. You'll avoid angering customers who come in at 10am. Second, nothing is more disappointing than pho that gets cold before you can finish the bowl. So anyway, I'm cramming the food into my mouth to get back to my meter by 11:15 (I've never had a pho meal take more than an hour) when one of the employees shows up for work with a bag from mcdonalds and sits down in the dining room to eat it. Great, now my nostrils are filled with the smell of mcdonalds while I'm trying to eat. Not cool. Welp, I'm done eating and now it's time to pay the check. No check. Instead I get to hear my server discussing the merits of her iphone with a coworker. Eventually she comes out and gets me my check. When I leave it's a few minutes past 11:15. I'm dashing back to my car and hoping I can get away with a being a few minutes over. No such luck, there's a ticket waiting for me when I arrive. I have a weekly entertainment budget and I was going to use that money to buy records at black and read. Instead I drive home. Oh well. Pho Lee is my mainstay anyway. read more

We started coming to pho-natic years ago and it's our favorite. We've tried a couple of others on federal when we have off hours pho needs, but still prefer pho-natic. The owners Naan and family are awesome, friendly, always there and clearly put their whole hearts into the restaurant. I'm admittedly no expert on Vietnamese food to verify authenticity but bottom line is it's absolutely delicious, great atmosphere, parking is easy and we'll be regulars for as long as we're in Denver. It was good Pho, not prefect. It did hit the spot. We had the Pho Tai, but with the spicy lemongrass broth. The lemongrass broth lacked depth of favor. The beef was cut well and fresh, and it came with an abundance of fresh garnishes. The meat filled egg rolls were great, and would order them again in a second. I would eat here again if I was in the area and craving Pho, though I would see what other kinds of restaurants were close before, hitting it up again. Even after living in Seattle for a few years, I never really developed a taste for pho. My office lunch buddy had a craving for it though, so I gave in and we decided to try out Pho-natic. The location is strange. It's on Colfax, so it's fairly sketchy outside, but with a cool view of the Capitol building. Once you get inside, it's surprisingly classy. Parking is a little bit hard to come by. We split the shrimp spring rolls appetizer and they were great. The peanut dipping sauce that came with had a little bit of a kick to it. She had the rare beef pho and enjoyed it. I had the grilled beef bun noodle bowl, and it was okay. Maybe I'm just more of a Thai food person, but a bunch of rice noodles with no sauce just isn't that exciting. The chili sauce that comes on the side was kind of one-note, and I found myself wishing they hadn't taken are peanut sauce away. On the plus side, the veggies were fresh and the grilled beef was pretty good. All bowls seemed to be in the $7-$10 range. We kind of got tag-teamed as far as servers go, and they weren't fantastic but I have no complaints. Not my favorite lunch place, but if I'm being talked into Vietnamese food again, I'd be willing to give it another try. read more

Stumbled upon this place by accident. We were trying to go to a thai place nearby that was supposed to be open according to their sign, but had no signs of life when we got there. Enter Pho-natic. It's a little pricier than what you'd pay on Federal and portions are smaller as well, but if you live in Denver this is a convenient place to get some Vietnamese without going very far. And you pay for that. It's oddly quiet in this restaurant so don't have too much inappropriate or rowdy conversation in this joint. I'm always glad to see a good pho joint.... so I was pretty happy to see this yelp listing while I was in Denver. The restaurant was nicely decorated and felt very open due to the big windows, which gave a good view of the Capitol. I went with an order of summer rolls, a small bowl of chicken pho (pho ga), and an iced coffee with sweetened condensed milk. The summer rolls were very nice, and came with the expected peanut sauce.... only with a bit of sriracha to kick it up a bit. I wasn't expecting that. The iced coffee was very good, and presented in a nicer manner than what I'm used to.... with a clear glass instead of a coffee mug to hold the coffee before transferring it to a ice filled glass, which made the transfer much easier. The pho.... well, it was different from what I'm used to. As far as I can tell, pho is Vietnamese comfort food. It's homey.... it's soulful. The broth is the star, and on its own should be enough to carry the dish. But at Pho-natic, the broth is more of what you'd expect at a very refined restaurant. The broth was like a consommé.... crystal clear. On its own, it wasn't really all that flavorful. Thankfully for pho, there's always plenty of add-ins to kick it up a notch. I've never had BAD pho.... but I gotta say this one missed the mark a little bit. Overall, I was pleased with my meal. A less than optimal bowl of pho is still pretty darn good. Pho-natic serves really generous portions for relatively low cost. I can't think of many really good Vietnamese restaurants in this area. This place is good if you are craving Vietnamese food, are really hunger, and can accept less than great Viet cooking. The pho broth is pretty weak, but the amount of meat and noodles and condiments you get can make up for it. Add some lime, salt and pepper, hoisin and siracha and vinegar and you can overcome the original lack of flavor. There other dishes are also generous in size if also lacking in overall flavor. At lunch time this place does a lot of business so plan accordingly. It can be very crowded. Given how much business they turn at lunch it is doubtful anything here will improve. At the end of the day, you can eat crap at a generic fast food joint or you can eat average Vietnamese food here. You can definitely satisfy your hunger if not your taste buds. read more

Ambiance is very lacking here, no fault of the establishment. They seem to occupy the front lobby of an office building; it is very open and has a slight echo, plus it smells lightly of cigarette smoke. The food was A-OK, as 3 stars on yelp suggests. The broth was not very flavorful, and I was a little disappointed with meat portions, but it's possible I'm spoiled from San Francisco pho. Food-wise I was most impressed by the absolutely heaping plate of bean sprouts, basil, lime, and jalapeno served with the pho. This far surpassed other establishments in scale and generosity. Staff was very friendly, with my water glass always full. Additionally, anyone who says this place is better than restaurants on Federal is surely a n00b to Viet food and does not yet know the potential of good hole-in-the-wall pho. read more

Why haven't I tried this place sooner? I don't do pho generally for dietary reasons, but the tofu noodle bowl was amazing. $8 for enough food for an entire day that is very good. The service is good too, as we apparently came in 5 minutes before the kitchen closed and were still able to eat and not rushed to leave. I always forget that for some reason many things on Colfax close really early... Like I said, the portions here are large for the prices. The regular sized pho is huge, and the noodle bowls are quite massive compared to a place like Tokyo Joes for instance. There is a big bottle of sriaracha at every table, which is a huge plus... I love the rooster. Maybe it's not up to Federal standards as far as pho goes... I wouldn't know. But what I do know is that it is very good, has a great location, and that I will definitely be back again. read more

Disclaimer: I'm veg, so I can get one thing on the pho menu. The broth is relatively weak and the only veggies in your pho are the standard issue bean sprouts. No perks here. HOWEVER! It's relatively cheap, the service is really good, and the boba is always well done (no hard tapioca, which I've become accustomed to in Denver). The BBQ spring rolls were almost good enough to bring it into the 3 star territory but I feel like Pho-natic still hasn't earned the solid 3. The pho itself is low on meat which isn't acceptable. The broth has a hint of anise but the savory and distinct pho taste isn't quite there. I understand this is a very popular lunch place for the capitol and government workers seeing as it's across the street. I'll leave this spot to them in that case and save my money and time for more worthy pho establishments. The wait time alone would give me hesitation on coming back. I don't think I've ever had to wait at another pho restaurant. Bottom line - it's not terrible but unless you're geographically limited to it for lunch I'd skip it. read more

I love this place. Beautiful, spacious interior with plenty of decorations. Very friendly service, and the food is phenomenal. I'm from Philadelphia so I think I know what good Vietnamese food tastes like, and this is one of the BEST. I had the noodle dish with everything in it. My wife and I stopped in for Pho, after receiving several recommendations. We were greeted by an upbeat server/host immediately. After we sat down, Rosie, our server, came to greet us. She was delightful! She was sweet and knowledgable, coming to the table the perfect number of times... Attentive, but not overbearing. The pho was fantastic! I'd have to say, we've come here numerous times and it's a great place to eat, my only complaint is that it's an asian restaurant and they don't have brown rice, what gives? Other than that ding, the food is fresh and affordable, average of each plate is 8 to 10 bucks a piece, but I warn you, do NOT come here after 1145, the place can be a madhouse at lunch, if you get there early(we usually go over around 11, there's no line at all). My favorite pho in Denver! When I lived in Cap Hill I would often eat in, now that I moved out of the neighborhood I usually order to go and take it home after work. Pho-natic is a clean, quiet environment that is a welcome change from the absurdity of Colfax Ave. Excellent service all the time. I had never had Pho when I first tried Pho-natic and they were patient and descriptive when explaining it to me. I am a huge fan of the rare beef pho and my wife is obsessed with the chicken pho. Lately however I've been getting the tofu/veggie but subbing out the veggie broth for beef broth! It's my new go to for sure. I love having the fresh vegetables in my pho! Also, I have not had better taro boba anywhere. Seriously, no trip to Pho-natic i s complete without it! My only gripe is that they advertise themselves as Vietnamese street food but don't offer a banh-mi! I am certain that if they ever do... it will be impeccable just like everything else. read more

The Good: Crazy close to downtown and the mall area. It's great to see pho getting into the city. The broth was simple and plain, a blank palette for yours to create your own delight. The Not-So-Bad: The brisket was much thicker than I would like, resulting in a tougher chew. Also, there were no napkin dispensers on the tables! Sounds like a small thing, but a lot of people need the dispensers as they slurp their way to pho-dom. The Not-So-Ugly: No homemade chili pepper sauce! No ambient sounds flowing through the air. A hidden gem. I went here for breakfast/lunch and was delighted to find a cool interior space and a truly home cooked Pho. It's almost invisible but it's the best in that area of town and it's worth checking out even if you are coming from elsewhere. It is a nice little shop, well appointed and clean. I went to Pho-natic about a year ago for the first time, and I was not impressed. I can't remember the details, but I didn't think I'd ever go back. Tonight, out of pure laziness (it's only a few blocks from my house), I called in an order for rare steak pho, and I'm soooooooo glad that I did! I'm pretty sure the pho I had tonight was the best I've had anywhere...EVER!! The vegetables were fresh, the broth was flavorful and they gave me a big pile of fresh tasting steak. You know how some places give you rare steak that looks good, but when you bite into it, it's really tough and chewy?? Well, this was the complete opposite. The steak was so tender that it practically melted in my mouth. Yeah, it's SLIGHTLY move expensive than other pho places (like, $1.50 more), but who cares?? It's absolutely worth it.
