I always tend to find good Vietnamese spots during my work travels and I'll say Anise was one of them. In Denver for a couple of meetings and Anise was walking distance from my AirBnB. I really enjoyed my chicken and shrimp combination pho and my amazing lychee martini. The bartender and staff were so friendly. The place is located in a good spot and the interior was welcoming, nicely lit with big screens just above the bar which you can see from the common dining room area. I've been here a few times, and the food is very consistent. You call and they say "it'll be ready when you're here", which I would say is pretty accurate. I haven't had to wait more than 5 minutes for my order. Flavors are good and ingredients are fresh. I only wish they included more meat, lol. I've only ever ordered takeout so I can't speak to the restaurant as a whole, but it always seems pretty casual in there, with sports typically playing on the tv and plenty of seating. read more

We came here for dinner Friday night with a few friends and a six month old baby girl, and honestly as someone dining with a baby, you would expect the host to be more friendly and accommodate to needs. As we arrived and were seated on a high table, my friend asked if we could get a table in the other section with low tables and we were denied straight out, no consideration for the baby with us. There was no place to keep the baby seat and our friends had to hold their baby then throughout the entire dinner. We ordered a few things off the menu. The bánh mì bites were good and the roasted lemon grass pork was good. The spring rolls were all right, and the chocolate cake for dessert was stale. Service was subpar, and our server kept interrupting throughout. Overall, the food here is mediocre. This is not a place I would recommend to anyone, especially if you are dining with a kid/s. This is an average Vietnamese restaurant with average food. I think my experience would be different if the host was nicer, but he wasn't and hence my experience. We recently ate here for the very first time and were immediately greeted with kindness. One of our party is in a wheelchair so we were directed to the Accessible entrance through the outdoor eating area. We ordered A LOT of dishes, all vegan / vegetarian and it was all very good, in particular the Banh Xeo and the Anise Vegan Special. I ordered a meal via Uber Eats on 1/30/26. Bamboo soup, shrimp spring rolls and combination Pho. The first issue was the Uber Eats driver made multiple stops prior to my delivery and everything was cold. The restaurant substituted egg drop soup for the bamboo soup. I hate egg drop soup. I was not called to see if I wanted the order cancelled, which I would have done. The spring roll wrappers were so tough I checked if I had missed a layer of plastic wrap. The meats for the Pho tasted off, I was afraid to eat any after the first bite. Not only was the broth cold, it had no flavor. This food is swill. Don't order here and don't use Uber Eats. I would have rated this a negative 5 if it was possible. One of my worst takeout meals ever! read more

This place is delicious!!! I got the crispy pork egg rolls which were to die for! That is definitely a must if you go there. Then for my main meal I got the chicken curry. It had the perfect amount of coconut taste to it. They keep the noodles separate outside of it so that they don't get too soggy . The service was great and they were fast to get out the food! I had some shrimp rolls to start which were really good albeit I would've preferred that they were served with peanut sauce. For my main, I got the lemongrass chicken bowl which was super tasty albeit I have had better in NYC. This restaurant is my comfort place. This is the perfect place to try Vietnamese food if you haven't, and if you want authentic flavors with an approachable menu this is it. As a Vietnamese gal, I LOVE how they have a vegan/ vegetarian option for everything and naturally Vietnamese food is mostly gluten free! Vietnamese food is naturally so healthy and yet so much more interesting than your traditional salad. The lemongrass tofu bowl will fill you up for days it is so huge. The fresh veggies with the sauce accompanying it creates the most fresh and healthy meal that I constantly crave! I personally add a touch of soy sauce for a bit more salty flavor as well. As mentioned in another review I adore the banh xeo, and it too will fill you up. This tumeric and coconut crepe is thick with onions and protein , and then you wrap it in lettuce and top with pickled veggies. This dish can get messy, but it makes a great dish to share because it offers two huge crepes. I personally always need more lettuce, so feel free to ask for more if you like smaller wraps! Finally the bananas in coconut milk is a very simple dessert with charred bananas in a salty coconut sauce. This is also gluten free. The attention to detail here at anise is really what makes it top notch in my opinion. read more

They always seem to be empty, but that's because they serve and turn around customers so efficiently. Most recently I had the Shrimp Spring Rolls, Tofu Curry, and Lemongrass Pork Bowl. The ingredients are SO fresh here. Even though I DO eat meat, I'm obsessed with the flavor of the Tofu Curry. Lemongrass Pork Bowl was filling, but maybe that's because the real estate of my stomach was taken up by the Shrimp Spring Rolls. This is an American-styled watered down Pho place. Its OK. The pho broth seemed like it lacked the beef flavor...or any other flavors. It was not flavorless but definitely NOT flavorful. Also the noodles were not enough...The bowl is large but the portions small. May be it is because it was a lunch serving...IDK. This place has been on my list for a while because of the high ratings. However, this feels more like a Vietnamese restaurant catered for downtown. First off, the prices are quite high for very small portions. You could probably find another Vietnamese restaurant that serves the same item at the same price but with more food since it doesn't have the downtown price tag. The appetizers are worth ordering. I like the Bánh Căn and the crispy tofu. The banh mi bites were okay. I thought they would be like baby banh mi sliders style but they're the ingredients served on baguette slices. The banh xeo was underwhelming. It's very expensive for two baby banh xeo. We also ordered the lemongrass bun bowl and fried rice. Went there to have dinner for two after traveling in from out of town. Upper level had sports on TV; lower level was quiet with pleasant decor; good for conversation. We had the chicken curry and the Vietnamese crepes; both were very tasty and in nice portions. Service was attentive and friendly. Last night I went to a very mediocre restaurant that had a few Vietnamese dishes including Goi Cuon (salad rolls) and that part was below mediocre, but so common these days - too loosely wrapped, all iceberg lettuce and worst of all, no flavor. Here at Anise, I got REAL pork salad rolls, tightly wrapped, the right herbs, FRESHLY made and excellent dipping sauce. Coupled with the best Chicken Pho I've ever had and I got great service too! Personally, I thought the service was incredible for our large table. Super accommodating, thoughtful of allergies, and generally attentive. The vibes were casual. The apps were well presented and good Vietnamese basics. No complaints. Alright.. I know I'm coming in with a Vietnamese bias here. The good: the portions are hella generous!! The pho bowl was so big!!! I was impressed. The less good: I didn't think the beef flavor was strong enough. Not surprisingly (and on brand) there was a strong anise flavor and good aromatics but I feel cheated on the beefiness of the broth. What a delicious Christmas Eve meal with our families. My husband and I always do some form of Asian on Christmas Eve and this year we had 10 total. It was hard finding somewhere that would take reservations for that many but Anise delivered. We shared the beef curry, spicy edamame, and a stir fry. We both really liked all our dishes and our almost 1 year old also enjoyed sampling what she could. The coconut curry was not the type of curry we are use to getting (usually Thai) but the coconut heavy version was delightful! The edamame was definitely spicy, which usually if a place says spicy it isn't usually very spicy. So be warned. Service was great and the atmosphere is inviting. We'll definitely be back! read more

We have been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years and last nights delivery was horrible!! 1:15 minutes for delivery, sesame chicken was old and reheated - rubbery, beef and vegetables- well let's say the beef was raw and had a bad taste, egg rolls were soggy and lacked any flavor!! I read the reviews about this restaurant having great vegan pho. Unfortunately, this was a bit of a bust for me. The veggies are carrots and broccoli... $3 for extra veggies which is just more broccoli. I don't like tofu, so I usually don't get it. The broth was kinda bland and had a weird smell to it. I dosed it up with vegan chilli oil at home to give it more flavor. I couldn't finish that amount of broccoli and carrots. The basil leaves and lime were not fresh. Basil was brown and wilty and the lime rind was brown and dry. Unfortunately I will not be giving this place another go. My recommendations would be to diversify your veggies. Do water chestnuts and mushrooms and baby carrots and bok choy. So many great options out there to make vegan food more interesting. And have fresher ingredients. read more

We are world-travelling foodies who enjoy everything from Michelin star restaurants in Berlin to street food in Bangkok. I can honestly say this was absolutely the most unpleasant dining experience we have ever lived through. We were two couples (in our 60s/70s) looking for a quiet evening of Pho. What we got instead was yelling, aggressive and abusive behavior from the owner and his wife. We ordered two house red wines, egg rolls, spring rolls and a Pho entree each. The appetizers were quite good but my wife was not happy with the house red wine so we asked the waitress if we could change the wine to a glass of the Cabernet. A couple of minutes later the owner came back and told us that we should know the house wine is not great, and we should NEVER send the wine back at his restaurant or ANY restaurant. I honestly thought he was joking - he was not. When he came back to check on the replacement Cabernet, he complained to us again that we should not have asked for another wine. I told him we would be happy to pay for both glasses of wine but that we were not happy with his attitude and we would not be back. He then went ballistic, completely off the handle. He started yelling and screaming, calling me rude and ordering us to immediately leave. I told him the soup was good and we wanted to finish our food, but he kept waiving his arms and yelling for us to leave. The whole restaurant was wondering what the hell was happening. His wife then runs over to physically restrain him. After she pushes him away from our table she proceeds to yell at us and tell us that we can complain about the food but not about the wine. Flabbergasted, none of us could finish. We paid for all our food (and wine) and left our poor unsuspecting server a 15% gratuity. As I sit and write this, I still can't believe what just happened. I went with the Lychee martini - refreshing, nice portion size, and undoubtedly strong. I was surprised at how many drink options they had, Anise goes far beyond just pho! I had the green curry which had a nice flavor, but was a bit too soupy for my preference. It really felt like soup more than anything, but hey, flavor is what I really care about! We worked up an appetite visiting the History Colorado Center. When I checked Yelp to see if there were any good restaurants around with vegan options for my friend, Anise popped up. I was super excited as vegan Vietnamese food isn't all that common where I live. We were the only customers when we walked in at noon on a Saturday but by the time we left, it was hopping. Menus are available by scanning a QR code (no this isn't my favorite thing). We ended up ordering the tofu spring rolls, the vegan crispy rolls, the tofu bahn mi, and the vegan pho. The rolls were very good (I liked the crispy a bit more than the spring but this really is just preference). All conversation ceased when we got our entrees. The broth on my vegan pho was so wonderfully aromatic it is hard to explain. It was easily--easily--the best pho I've ever had. At some point I remembered my manners and stopped slurping down my food to ask my friend how his food was. He said, mouth full, "this is the best banh mi I've ever had in my life." Then we both happily went back to our food in silence. We definitely had to flag our server over to order or when we needed anything but he was friendly and helpful with the menu. I ate my left over pho cold for breakfast the next day and it was still delicious (don't judge me).
