Beef pho was delish! Our server was friendly and helpful on a busy Friday evening during the Drake relays. There was a lot of ruckus in the Court Ave district that particular evening. I didn't feel exceptionally safe this time, but hitch was no fault of this restaurant or it's staff. I also was a bit shocked that the restroom was in a back hall in the building that was shared by several businesses. As female, I would be sure you stay in a group or with someone big and strong if you chose to go here in the evening or need to go potty. Rolled up in this place at 1AM after flying in from Dallas. I'd never been to DesMoine, and lemme tell you, IOWA GETS COLD. Hit with a frigidity not known to me before, I eagerly sought out a place where I could get a hot bowl of soup. That was also open at 1AM. Low and behold: Pho Real. The place itself has a cool vibe, very open, albeit small. My server was super nice. I asked him to surprise me with a drink, and he came out with a basil martini. FANTASTIC. The drink is 5 stars. It was the perfect amount of sweet and sour. And the fresh basil just shines through like a star. It was refreshing. It felt like summer in the middle of winter. The Pho is 3 stars (average). The broth didn't have a very rich flavor. Definitely a solid amount of portions, though. I'm also a big tendon/tripe fan, and they didn't have that. I tried Pho Real for the first time last night and I'm really happy with it! I ordered the pho special which comes with thin steak, beef brisket, and beef meatballs. The meat was so tender and the broth was so flavorful. I think broth is always hit or miss with pho but Pho Real does it right! It was just the perfect thing for a cold winter night. Also, I just have to mention the fried chicken wings with the honey sriracha sauce. I will be dreaming about those wings until I can get them again! The breading was so crispy and the sauce was perfectly sweet and spicy. I also LOVE that it was bone-in wings, the meat just falls off the bone. Please don't skip the wings!! This place is a real winner with fantastic pho. We were promptly sat down at our seats at the window. The window seats are fun because of the great people watching in the busy area. We were brought menus and water, but then didn't have anyone come take our order for over 10 minutes. I used to drink bubble tea all the time and I've found that restaurants usually have lower quality than a bubble tea shop because most of them use powders to get the base of the flavor. Not here! While we were traveling through Iowa a few weeks back, we stopped into Pho Real Kitchen & Bar for lunch, and we were really pleased. We're spoiled because we live in the NY-metro area and we've had the best-of-the-best in Vietnamese. Pho Real ranks up there with some of the more delicious pho experiences. We both got a bowl of pho, which was extremely tasty. My partner asked for his minus the noodles, but with extra veggies and the staff complied perfectly. We started our meal with the shrimp spring rolls--stuffed with fresh herbs and vegetables, which provided crunch and great flavor. The staff is extremely eager to please, very friendly and accommodating. And the service was very quick; we were able to resume our road trip on schedule. 100% recommend! read more

Its small but quaint perfect for a little date night or a quick bite when your roaming around downtown. The sauce for the delicious wings is siracha based and not the run of the mill buffalo. The dumplings are served steamed or fried and both were great. This pho, my first, was a performance of flavor. If you personally are like, a self-declared connoisseur of pho, idk I can't speak to whether or not you'd dig it. But, if you're like me, a neophyte who generally enjoys a captivating, piquant dish, I'm confident you'd please your stomach. Even my dad, a guy who could easily subsist on mashed potatoes, like not even seasoned mashed potatoes, found Pho Real to be altogether satisfying. I'm generally not a fan of tofu, but this one hits the mark, especially when combined with the robust broth. Pho Real serves their pho with a plate of sprouts, basil, jalapeno, and lime, all of which add a little oomph to the pho. I also like to add some of their house chile sauce, but be careful; a little goes a long way! Beyond the great food, the service here is wonderful.
