Spring rolls were decent, was worried from previous review the sauce was watered down. But it was standard sauce, just like any pho spot. The rice wrapper wasn't too dried out either. The pho was passable. Not much to the broth it was bland but it wasn't like a 72 hr stock. Meatballs were pre-sliced, not something I'm use. They don't do rare flank steak so it was cooked well done and needed some chewing. Had a few slivers of tripe I think. Lots of onion and green onions. The veg that came with it was a bit sad looking. Phở Thắng Café is a casual eatery in downtown Cleveland offering Vietnamese cuisine. The main reason to visit this restaurant is due to accommodating hours. Open seven days a week, it really fits well with any schedule. I first found this cafe during Sunday date years. I later visited a few times with family. My latest visit was just a few days ago during downtown wandering on a mundane weekday - Monday. I'll share a summary of my experiences. AMBIANCE: The restaurant is pretty spacious, can well accommodate groups. There are multiple rooms for dining as well as a bar. Decor is what you'd find at any mom and pop Asian establishment - lanterns, wall Asian art, Buddha, and small altars. You can easily locate the restaurant by impressive lions at its doors. The interior is slightly dated but well immerses you into the Asian culture. FOOD: This restaurant is well known for its pho (Vietnamese soup). It well caters to carnivores, vegans, and vegetarians. Multi-page menu offers quite a variety - appetizers, vermicelli stir fry, fried rice dishes, ramen, pho, and combo plates. The menu also features beers in case you want pair it with your meal. All items on the menu have alphanumeric system (and helpful pictures) so you never have to mispronounce any menu items. My first time order a few years ago here was Vegetarian Pho. My vegan date ordered it, and in solidarity I did too. I'm not quite sure if the stock was vegan, but nonetheless he loved it. I didn't love it - too spicy and not filling. I did not see it on the menu during my last visit. Few days ago during my visit my order was the following: A3 Shredded Pork Rind Rolls ($6), P7 House Special Beef Pho ($16), and G3 Jasmine Hot Tea ($2). The rolls were extremely light on the meat to the extent that I dissected them to see if my order was right. They were also very dry even with the provided sauce. Mostly the contents were vermicelli. The pho was also light on the meat and was supposed to have the most meat according to the menu. It was a generous portion but I strongly feel that the quality declined over the last few years. It wasn't bad pho overall, but it lacked richness present at other pho establishments. I didn't love it. The bowl was served with a plate under it that was visibly dirty. Jasmine tea was very pleasant, light but very hot and tasty. I loved the latter. Pho and tea warmed up my soul. SERVICE: The service was super prompt. The food arrived within minutes. While the service was quick, there was really no warmth to it. It felt a little impersonal. PARKING: Street parking tends to be scare in the area but there are plenty of garages around. It's also an easy walk from multiple downtown residences and hotels. Overall, this pho place is a good choice for a casual meal especially when the surrounding restaurants are closed. If you want something tastier, I highly prefer Superior Pho or Number 1 Pho in Asia Town for more rich pho and tasty food choices. read more

The staff is nice, I usually get a shrimp for at my other place so that's what I got here they definitely give you good size shrimp and the broth with super hot . We were in the mood to try something Asian with vegetarian options and this restaurant has a menu section for vegetarians, so we came here. First, you guys need a bigger entrance door!! The small entrance is so easy to miss or to mistake for an employee or back entrance. The restaurant is actually very spacious inside, but you'd hardly figure that out from the outside. Our hotel is close by so we walked. If you need parking, there are parking structures around. They seemed to be short-staffed as the chefs were also helping out with serving at times and it was hard to flag down our specific server, who seemed to be among 3 servers managing about 15 full tables and a bar. We ordered the veggie garden spring rolls, the veggie banh mi, the bun xao ga (rice vermicelli with chicken), the goi ga (chicken and cabbage salad), the mi goi xao dac biet (house special ramen egg noodles with shrimp, chicken and pork) and the honeydew and green tea boba teas. Everything was pretty mild with regards to spice level. My parents enjoyed the garden rolls and the veggie banh mi. Just a FYI: the veggie ham tastes nothing like real ham, but the sandwich itself was a banh mi. It is a pretty small size so one person can definitely eat the whole thing. The bun xao ga was nice but not exactly the spicy dish I was promised. The chicken in it was a little chewy. I asked for their homemade chili oil and had to douse my dish in about 30% of the contents to get the spice I was looking for. I didn't get it fully but it definitely tasted a little spicier. This is a great dish if you want mild flavors. My brother inhaled the goi ga. He liked it and appreciated that there were lots of veggies to balance the chicken. His ramen was also very good with the exception of spice. He doused his ramen in siracha sauce to get the kick he wanted. I loved the boba teas. The boba was soft and easily melted in the mouth when you bit into it. The honeydew was quite sweet and the green tea had a bit of an earthy taste, which was exactly what we were going for. Price wise, we paid about $80 for the whole meal, which I think is quite reasonable for downtown Cleveland. All in all, this was a good experience but I'd really like them to kick the spice level up when we ask for it....and that entrance....please figure out a way to get a more visible entrance! read more

GPS might route you to the main entrance and you'll see a sign but you'll have to walk towards the hotel entrance. Although it's ground floor, the inside feels like a basement and the decor is basic and outdated. The service was good, everyone was friendly and quick. The food was good, we all got pho and some spring rolls. Spring rolls were nice and crispy and well stuffed. The noodles were basic and didn't have different sized bowls, but instead you can add noodles. Broth was ok. I would give service a 4, ambiance a 2, and food a 3.5. read more

Working downtown again. Visited Pho Thang with a coworker for lunch because I recall the food being good. We were promptly greeted and seated. On this visit, I requested one of my favorites - vegetable fried rice along with some fresh garden rolls. A short time passed and our meals were delivered. They were hot and looked amazing. The fresh garden rolls were tasty. They were sticky and yummy, but they did not have any shrimp in them. Next time, I'll order the shrimp variety. The peanut sauce didn't have a bold flavor. My veggie fried rice was amazing. Loved it! The only issue I have is no refills were provided. I'm Vietnamese and I know good Pho. This Pho really missed the mark. The broth was decent, could be better, but I can tell they skipped some base steps in concocting the broth. The meat... almost like tires. Having beef that is not tender is an insult. It could be the locals are scared of rare beef that cooks in the broth, but chewing until my jaw hurts is not what I needed after a night of drinking the night before. I ordered the bah mi with the garden roll combo which was 14 bucks. The price honestly seem pretty high given what I've paid in the past, but was super optimistic that it was gonna be worth it. When I saw the sandwich, I was pretty shocked at how small it was but again was trying to keep a positive attitude about it. To start, the sandwich barely had any meat in it as you can see from the picture. It was just toppings. I will give them credit that the bread was nice and crispy which I really appreciated. As far as the spring roll, I think that rice paper they used to roll it could've soaked a little bit longer because it was hard to eat. Even more so one of my favorite parts of the spring is the peanut sauce it comes with. I'm pretty sure that they water there's down because I've never seen one that was runny like this. On our way home on a recent blustery Sunday night and my wife was really jonesing for Pho. We've tried a decent number of spots all around Cleveland so we decided to give this new (to us) downtown place a try. They were within an hour of closing time, but graciously allowed us to dine in. The servers were very pleasant and quickly took our orders...bowls of Pho with a side and a drink. The combination dinner of pho tai nam (eye round steak and well-done brisket) and a crispy spring roll was fantastic...maybe the best in Cleveland! The spring roll was perfectly hot and crispy, filled with ground pork and veggie and then served with a sweet and sour sauce dipping sauce. The large steaming both of pho had a very savory broth (light on cinnamon, which I liked) and was filled with vermicelli glass noodles and a standard side plate of bean sprouts, jalapeno slices, lime wedge and basil leaves. Was excited to try pho for the first time. Felt authentic inside, I sat at the bar. Menu was a little difficult to read but the workers helped me a lil. Got the chicken pho with white rice. Can't go wrong with white rice, but soup on the other hand.
