Probably the best viet restaurant in Richmond, the Pho Dac Biet Large was enormous with tons of meat and great price. The 34 Com Tam Suon grilled pork chop with rice was succulent and delicious. The interior of the restaurant is very pretty with more modern furnishings. I liked their fish tank. My only comment, not sure if it was because we had a group of 6 was that they kept bringing out dishes only 1 or 2 at a time instead of serving us all at once. But the tables with only 1 or 2 people didn't seem to have any issues so I am wondering if it was because they were short staffed in the kitchen or something on a weekday. Cruel, discriminatory, and hazardous experience! My friend and I were treated with total contempt by a tall, heavily built male server. We had to beg him just to order, and were left waiting for nearly an hour until closing time with ZERO food delivered, while multiple non-Asian tables around us who arrived much later were served promptly. This is blatant demographic discrimination. To make matters worse, when he finally brought us water, it smelled heavily of chemical bleach/disinfectant. The restroom soap dispenser was also completely defective and forcefully sprayed chemical soap directly all over my face. This malicious waste of time caused us to miss our itinerary and we caught a cold due to the prolonged distress. This place is a public health hazard and a textbook example of consumer fraud. Came here on a Saturday afternoon and got the pho dac biet special L ($14) and Vietnamese iced coffee ($5). Service was quick and good. Food came out in about 5 minutes once I ordered. The pho broth was seasoned well and was savory. I like that they actually gave a generous portion of meat. Lunar new year 2025 and we decided that we wanted some noodles to celebrate the new year and to recover from our flu recovery weekend. I made the decision to start the new year for the hubby and I to have Bun Bo Hue. I put the request in Yelp and this place showed up. I put in the pick up order and it was quick within 30 mins. It use to be the old Vietnam Garden and I didn't realize that! There's plenty of parking in the front, be careful because GrandMart is next next door and there may be bad drivers... I came in to pick up the food with no issues, pretty much just told them my name and order. What I didn't realize is that there's also a cafe in the front! OMG, talk about caving to my weakness and I got anything related to Vietnamese coffee. I got their Vietnamese Latte and Coffee to go so that I could have it later this week. (Which, lasted very well and I enjoyed it within the next 2 days!) Anyways, about the food - it seriously hit the spot and it was still warm after I had to go pick up my son and head on home. It was A LOT of noodles for me which makes it awesome. It had a nice spicy kick to it because of the jalapenos I decided to add to my bowl. It was a little pricey (about $20/bowl) but it does have a lot of protein and flavor to this bowl and I'm willing to spurge for this dish. Overall, staff was friendly, place is clean, online order was easy to use, and good was delish (not to mention their cafe drinks that I enjoyed later on). One stop shop to satisfy all the cravings. The pho is my go-to but they also have a lot of other Vietnamese foods that other pho places typically don't have like bun rieu, banh mi, and che. I struggled with where to start with this review and sat on it to find the most tactful way to share. So, the positive first I guess. You can tell it's local, fam owned, and staff were generally nice (when they happened to come around). I should know better to try a new pho place when I frequent some really fire ones, but I was feeling like why not-its SOME decent reviews on Yelp right. Sooo, walking in I felt overwhelmed (prob an understatement) at the decor. To eaches own, just a lot going on. Like a little would be cute, but whoa, what's the inspo here? I was also thrown off of the boba tea & coffee bar, which seemed to also be the priority feature of this biz. Cool if it is, but putting pho in the biz name, gives me a general expectation of the 'featured thing.' The staff seemed to be so overwhelmed (and it wasn't more than 7 tables filled at the time) that table service was far few and in between...I shouldn't have to go up to the counter (the coffee counter may I add) and ask for anything to be brought to my table. I'd read that in other reviews but thought anyone can have an off night, but no pretty sure it's just chaos always. That was also overwhelming to just keep seeing people running back and forth, yet not necessarily checking on tables. Ugh the food..spring rolls (app) never came. Oh why not just ask you may be thinking..bc no one is around that works there. Pho comes out (about 40 mins after ordering), still no spring rolls, and I'm too in my feelings already and looking at my chicken pho like what is this in it...I still don't know but other places around RVA don't do these additions and chicken pho is like so basic. The greasy spring rolls finally came out, with an apology that someone else was supposed to bring them. Definitely paid for something i literally took a bite out of and said nah. I extract the things from the pho I don't like (never ever have had anything or any reason to do this before anywhere) and try to eat it, and meanwhile was already sad and planning where I would have my pho craving filled for my redo. This won't it for me, and unfortunately it was a double no with service and food (not even talking about that decor anymore), but I may just be more of an experienced foodie who believes in amazing food and excellent service. Honestly as popular as the coffee and tea bar appeared, maybe it's the spot to solely go for that and bypass the food. The establishment also has an outdoor seating in the front of its business that looks beautiful. The food was well. Of this place, the service that stood out the most was their wife Boba / slushee/ smoothie drink bar products. They offered several flavors of beverages boba and non- boba. 3 stars: On both occasions in a two size party and then a large party, the service was poor. The first instance was during a weekday lunch time of day so there was much understanding to the busy hour. The food came promptly but more than two requests for minor needs such as water or the check was an adventure. There were 4-5 staff members on the floor and their efforts seemed honest however, it was memorable. On the second occasion, we presented in the evening hour with not a full dining room intact. We had one wait staff for a party greater than 10 (pre-reserved). Again, he did great in effort and request however, everything was a request such as utensils, clearing the table (we ran out of table space for additional dishes) and etc. The dine in occasion was for a celebratory event so it made the experience challenging. I think the experience could have been better if he had support. Food: The food quality was good. The speed of the dishes were quick which is always a plus. Overall, it is a good Pho spot. Place is always consistent with their food and their Vietnamese coffee is the only drink I'd buy though. I'd check out their special menu if you're tired of traditional Vietnamese food as well. Only critique is that they usually put maybe about 6-8 oz of their boba drinks in a 20 oz cup packed with ice for any of their drinks. Learned that when I ordered a Thai tea no ice and got like 6 oz of Thai tea. I brought it up with the barista and they corrected it thankfully. So I'd recommend going to Zen Cafe for drinks instead. But the Vietnamese coffee drink is consistent since you need ice packed into it to melt over time. read more
