Very disappointing experience at Pho Top. I ordered takeout sushi and paid over $31 for what turned out to be three extremely small sushi rolls that were nowhere near worth the price. The portions were so tiny that I was still hungry after finishing them. To make matters worse, when I checked my receipt, I noticed a $5 tip had been added to my order even though it was a takeout order. Customers should always review their receipts carefully before paying. I don't mind paying for quality food, but I do expect fair portions, transparent pricing, and clear disclosure of any charges. I've been to Pho Top before, but this visit felt different since it was after the pandemic. When we walked in, they closed off our area and made it more secluded, which was a bit odd. They were also mopping and cleaning as we arrived. We ordered a lot of food, and overall, it was good. The portions were generous, and the service was solid. The pho soup base didn't taste like what I'm normally used to as it was probably because they don't use MSG, so it had a cleaner flavor. I just stopped by pho top for the first time. The restaurant is located in an outdoor strip mall. Plenty of parking, the restaurant is very clean and the service is very good. I had a pho with beef the broth was very good and the meat was tender. I also had spring rolls which were prepared very nicely. 4.5 This is one of my "go-to" Pho places. Although I've tried almost all of the other places before I started really Yelping, this is one place I seem to return to the most. Why? The people are always friendly, the place is very clean, the taste is consistently good, the price is reasonable, and it's not too far away. Wifey and I have tried many of the dishes here. This time, we ordered the Crispy Squid, Vermicelli with Shredded Pork, and Pho with Grilled Pork Chop. The Crispy Squid has really good breading and seasoning. The Vermicelli and the sauce are good, and the Pho broth is tasty. I think the thing I like the most is the seasoning/marinade they use for the Pork Chop; it's always juicy and flavorful. We randomly stumbled upon here when Gino's pizza next door was closed due to a holiday and were pleasantly surprised! These the reasons we come back because it's easy to dine here with the kids. In terms of the food, I'd say that nothing really stands out. The pho is average and so are the spring rolls. The space is big and tables and chairs are far from each other which I can appreciate during Covid times. But the feeling of 'dead space' is just too great. I'm largely not a fan of restaurants that try to go into serving a cuisine not native to them, this has resulted in some very disappointing/near inedible food in the past, but these guys (Chinese-operated) are a happy exception! I'm very impressed with what they've served up, there's not a lot of memorable phò places here in NYC (for the most part, try to wow with food presentation aesthetics than taste) but this place will be a go to. Well done! *throws confetti* Prices are standard, takeout portions are hearty. We ordered #17 and #18, if you're not a big fan of tripe, just go with #18. Condiments and garnishes supplied were the right amount to achieve a balanced bowl pho. The broth didn't have that depth in flavour of more authentic pho houses but was delicious nonetheless, the noodles were thinner than the standard type traditionally used but worked. They were very generous with the meat, the round steak beef was good quality. Included in the photos is the most recent menu, prices have had a slight increase from the last few months. You don't have to worry about the 'covid tax' some restaurants tack on their orders, our total was only $22 for 2 phòs. Doesn't leave you feeling heavy afterwards. Next time I would love to dine in, the space was impressively large and modern, very clean. I think this business will do very well, I can't wait to try their other options. I stopped in for lunch on a weekday afternoon. There were a few other diners, but all the tables were spaced apart. The staff is friendly and attentive. It looks like they get a good amount of takeout orders, but that did not delay our service at all. I got the Combination Pho and it was huge. I also did not like the fact that the bean sprouts was already inside the soup and not on a side like it usually is. I thought that was a bad idea especially those who don't like bean sprouts or is even allergic they should really leave it on the side like most pho spots do. The location is okay, only good thing is that there's a parking lot and the restaurant is spacious. The price is decent and staff is friendly. Before covid happened, we were counting down the days for a viet place to open in the neighborhood! They finally opened a few weeks ago (June 2020). I saw the negative reviews and definitely wanted to check it out to see if it was the usual bias on yelp. happy customers won't leave reviews, but pissed off ones will go allllllll in with what went wrong, even if it's a new business that should be given a 2nd chance :/ Food: 4 out of 5. The spring rolls aren't as stuffed as other places but they're satisfying and have a crunch. The pho was also good - but not amazing. The broth was a bit sweet and just wasn't packed with the rich beef flavor as it should be in every sip. It should hit the spot! (I let the waiter know and he promised he'd tell the chefs.) The popcorn chicken and vermicelli with grilled pork chop were good. Husband enjoyed the chicken a lot with bits of fried basil on top, and you can't go wrong with vermicelli! Also the pork chop is chopped (not an entire piece bone-in). Thai iced tea was perfect and not too overloaded with sweet condensed milk. Owner/chefs- if you want customers to come back, now is the time to not hold back on ingredients and flavor and show us what you have!! Poor portions that consisted mostly of onions and barely any meat / squid, prices that aren't exactly cheap, and flavors that just aren't there. Wanted to try a new local pho spot and stopped by on a Saturday. It was ok tasting, slightly watered down with meat that is low quality and on the tough/chewy side. On a different day though, I ordered popcorn chicken togo and really enjoyed that. Think it's a hit or miss for select dishes, I probably wouldn't order the pho again though. The owner seemed nice at first; extremely friendly and we appreciated his attentiveness. However, as soon as he saw that we didn't finish our food (mind you, we were all a little hungover after a wedding) he went off and started being quite indecent and rude. He said stuff about how we don't know soup, and to be honest, was a bit racist to our two white friends... all because we didn't finish our food; the food we paid for; the food we still tipped him 20% for although we regret 10000% now. He held onto our credit card and just kept ranting at us even though we kept saying that we were just full and hungover so we couldn't finish the food. Like he was trying to "teach" us something. But after his outburst, I will just honestly say that the food was pretty terrible and he needs to learn how to speak to his customers. We obviously weren't being rude and said the food was good and we wanted to leave but he kept harassing us, telling us we didn't know food and soup and all this bullshit. Seems like this is a polarizing place based on recent reviews but I've eaten here twice (once indoor and once outdoor) and ordered to-go several times and I've never had a problem with my order. The two times I ate here, service was friendly and the food was flavorful and well-portioned. I will admit their beef pho broth isn't as good/flavorful as the others available in northern Queens but the bowl was chock full of meats and noodles to make up for it. What I usually come here for is the bun bo hue because the broth is nicely beefy and lemongrass-y as it should be (compared to Pho Metro whose bun bo hue has no lemongrass at all). The spice level seems to vary but it's either manageable or not spicy at all. It comes with a generous amount of meat (pork hock, brisket, beef balls, pork sausage, and pork blood). The grilled pork chop is also great every time I get it; it's tender and flavored with a sweet and salty lemongrass paste. In my most recent pic from today (the one at home) they gave me several large pieces of it. I'm really hoping they figure out the issues that the others have been writing about because I quite like this place and hope it stays in business. read more
