I've been to Bo and Ga twice over the years and both times we were left unsatisfied. We really wanted to like this restaurant since it's a local mom and pop shop, but some of the dishes miss the mark. On our last visit, we decided to go all out and order everything we wanted to try (aside from the signature pho, which we had the first time). The appetizer were quite pricey - 2 pieces of beef mushroom roll for $5 and 1 gaibi (braised beef rib) for $11. The gaibi was dry and hard to eat on the bone even though they provided gloves and a knife. The pork chop as a side was $15 for 2 pieces and also on the dryer side. It was seasoned well but I really wished it was juicier. My favorite part of the meal was the smoky beef bun cha platter. The beef was thinly sliced and tasted sweet like bulgogi. The noodles were served with a cold dipping sauce, which contains fish sauce. I enjoyed the noodles but wished they were easier to separate. Lastly, the spicy intestine pho was my least favorite. I personally do not like small intestines so it was not the dish for me. The soup was not very spicy and tasted like the offals. Overall, this is not a classic Vietnamese restaurant so you'll be disappointed if that's what you're expecting. Came here twice and really wanted to like it, but unfortunately this place fell short both times. First time here i had the pho and it was too bland and too too little meat for my liking. Second time here I went all out ordered the smoked beef, rib, spicy intestine pho and a really disappointing beef enoki appetizer and was mostly disappointed with all these items for a variety of reasons. The vibes is if we went to a really good Vietnamese restaurant in Korea. Croquettes for example- not typically done well at a viet spot- but it was a surprisingly good choice here. I do enjoy the fact that you can order specific portions of the appetizers. Summer rolls was a bit confusing without the typical sauce but honestly it was great on its own. Pho itself was good and probably better than most pho offered in the area. I don't think I'll have dreams about it but it's reliable and hits the spot on a cold day. The owners seem like husband and wife and they are both extremely friendly to all the customers. Bo and Ga are literal translations of Beef and Chicken in Vietnamese, but the restaurant is Korean owned. This isn't the first Korean pho place in Flushing and probably won't be the last. It is very quiet here on a Tuesday night and B&G is a block north of all the restaurant bustle of Northern Blvd in this residential neighborhood that is packed with houses, but there is free parking if you look around. The previous menu is focused on beef and chicken pho, but when we came, it was revamped with new menu items and I wanted to try them out. The front of the house is run by one lady doing everything. She was gracious in bringing us tea. We start with Shrimp Summer Rolls (2 for $10.99), which had some plump shrimp and served with smooth blended peanut sauce. Other places have lumpy sauce, which I kind of prefer. Also different from the previous menu version is the Pork Spring Rolls, which are thinly wrapped, similar to Chinese Spring Rolls. They are crunchy, meaty and tasty though seemingly small (4 for $8.99). The fish sauce for dipping was pretty flavorless and there was no lettuce wrap either. But we came for the Pho. The Signature Pho Bo is the classic combination of sliced brisket, rare eye round and tripe with thin rice noodles all in a savory beef broth. The beef broth has good flavor, but I feel the chicken broth is on another level. It comes in the Pho Ga as well as the Seafood Pho. My son said the seafood was lacking flavor though and it was all about the chicken broth. I had one of the new menu items, which was the Smokey Beef Belly Pho and that added a new dimension of flavor with the smoked sliced beef. I decided to come check out this pho spot for lunch one day due to the lunch specials they offer. I believe it is a few bucks cheaper for a bowl of pho with the lunch special so I ordered a beef pho with shrimp summer rolls. They also give you pickled onions as a side, which was a nice touch! Even though they have a simple menu (which I really appreciate), everything was done well and very fresh with decent portion sizes. The interior is spacious with plenty of tables and clean from what I could tell. I was the only one dining in at a weird hour in between lunch and dinner but the lady was very nice and attentive, left me to enjoy my food until I was ready to settle up. I ordered spicy lemongrass brisket pho and spicy intestine pho delivery from here. Holy the spicy is really spicy, and not in an enjoyable way. I'm not able to slurp on the noodles because if I inhale, the spice will hit the back of my throat causing me to cough. It's also numbing and it leaves my tummy feeling a burning sensation after. The intestines are small intestines, so be warn that it's not clean. The broth is pretty tasty, I would want to try it not spicy next time. They give a lot of noodles, but not enough meat. read more

In this area of Queens, it's a nice change to see a Vietnamese Pho restaurant open in this sea of Korean restaurants. Bo and Ga recently opened and has a very limited and focused menu. The only offerings are Pho (there's 5 to choose from) and Vietnamese rolls (Summer and Spring). We went for an early dinner on Saturday and the place was empty, but it looked like they were doing gang busters with take-out and delivery orders. We ordered the Pho Bo Signature ($16.99), Shrimp Summer Rolls ($10.99) and Vegetable Spring Rolls ($8.99) The Pho Bo Signature Bowl had Brisket, Rare Steak and Tripe served with noodles in beef broth. The beef broth was light and not as beefy as I was expecting but still tasty. It was really great after I sprayed it with lemon and added Hoisin sauce and Sriracha. The noodles were soft and silky, great for slurping and had a nice chew. One thing I must note was that I wished there was more meat in the bowl. The rare steak was cut really thin (you could practically see through it) and it was so good. The Shrimp Summer Rolls comes 2 per order and had a side of peanut sauce. I really enjoyed these. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, and the veggies (fresh and pickled) were great. Strangely it came with a small plate of pickled onions which I've never seen before. I'm not sure if these were for eating with the rolls or the bowl of pho. The Vegetable Spring Rolls comes 4 per order and had a side of fish sauce. Also, good but different from the usual Vietnamese spring rolls that I'm used to. They were bigger in size and did not come with lettuce for wrapping in. Frankly, it tasted more like Chinese Spring Rolls which I also happen to like. I enjoyed the meal. Came out of it very full and I thought the prices weren't too bad. The staff were so attentive. The owner was very friendly, the menu was small and easy to digest, and the restaurant was spotless. But then again, we were the only patrons here on a Monday evening. We ordered their spring roll, chicken pho, and smoky beef pho. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. We were expecting the spring rolls to be Vietnamese style. What we got were standard spring rolls you'd order from a Chinese takeout with a side of fish sauce. The chicken pho was also very disappointing. The broth lacked depth and wasn't much different than a Swanson box broth. The chicken they served was also the same chicken used to make the chicken broth...meaning the chicken was already cooked to death and very dry. The smoke beef pho was decent but the broth also lacked flavor. The beef they used was the same beef used in hotpot and it's as if they simply torched the beef to give it that "smoky" taste. There are many restaurants in this area and a few really good Viet style restaurants just 3 minutes away. Bo and Ga really need to step up their game and not take the lazy way out. Everything else - formula is there to make a wonderful business for the neighborhood. Lastly, so glad that there is a variety addition to this area so diners have more to choose from. Regardless of which "ethnicity" owns a certain restaurant of a specific cuisine- that should be not be an indicator of anything. (Perfect example is PF Changs- caucasian owned and kitchen employs a lot of latinos and some head chefs roles began with chinese chefs which later was replaced by experienced latinos who learned the job so well. The soup for both chicken and beef pho were decent, but nothing special. The chicken broth should have been clearer and cleaner, while the beef broth should be beefier as well. Noodles were definitely firmer than usual, so if you like al dente, this may be for you. The various beef, such as eye of round and brisket were typical, though the tripe was a bit different (marinated and cut small), and no beef tendon. Been wanting to try this every time I drive past and finally got to dine in the other night! Was seated fast and was able to order quick! It's a small, cute, and quaint space that has about 7-8 tables in it. Started with the fried Spring rolls and cold Summer rolls. Summer rolls were delicious and fresh. Plenty of shrimp. Sauce was a little runny for my liking but I'm just being nit picky because everything was so good! I had the chicken pho and my partner had the House special pho. He asked to have it without tripe but it still came with it unfortunately. It's okay, was able to pick it out. The broth in my chicken pho was delicious and flavorful. Me and my husband both got the #1 and a summer roll. The summer roll was packed a bit loose but still tasted great! We were also given cilantro instead of Thai basil with our pho. I've never had it with cilantro but it was surprisingly good, I'd still prefer Thai basil tho but that's just my preference. The pho was also very good, super generous with the meat as well. Oh and the picked carrots and onions as a banchan (side dish) was very good. It really helped cut through the meat flavor and I would have never thought about having it with pho. So so good. Another area I think it lose another star for me is the price. Because the price is up there with other Top Pho places.
