Great Takeout Bag.. Keeps your Malatang Warm
    Mike S.

I've been a couple of time to this spot and for me there is a lot to like - it is close by, parking in the area isn't too bad, Eating in and making your own bowl is the better value over the pre-priced pots and [[HIGHLIGHT]]they have a decent amount of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The 1st time I came here I did a hot pot with tiny spicy level.. I came in slightly over 1lb (1.02lbs to be exact) and it was a good filling bowl. I thought the spicy level was good and the flavor the broth really good. The 2nd time I did a dry pot and up the level to medium spicy and I was feeling the heat. I wasn't too hungry and I did about .75lbs on this visit. I thought the selection of items were pretty decent and because they make a really tasty Ma la tang the sauces cover the basics, but I find I don't really need them anyway. All in all, a solid neighborhood spot.

You can create your own or choose a premade mix. Cheaper to create your own if you can get close to 500 grams of ingredients. I went a bit overboard with ingredients, but I wanted to try things out. I got: -Variety of frozen seafood (imitation crab, fish balls) -Fish: flaky -Small squid -Cabbage and Bak Choy: they do chop up them up to bite sized pieces before cooking it -Variety of mushrooms -Mai fun: one block is a lot of noodles! -Duck blood -Sliced beef I went with the Mild spicy level, since I heard that it can get really spicy! You can also make your own sauce to go with you dry/hot pot, so I added some more spice with that. It does come with a bowl of rice. I couldn't finish mine so I requested a to go container. The to go bag is really nice, as they are sealable insulated bags. The leftovers heated up well. You can just leave your trays on the table, the staff will clean it (there's no designated place to put trays and garbage). I will definitely be back when I'm craving mala tang, and I will make sure to get less ingredients next time!

At this point this place is my go to dry hot pot spot in queens and for several reasons! [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is clean, efficient, has staff that speaks English and has signs in English, a large variety of items to pick from to put into your dry pot / hot pot, is super spicy and most importantly delicious.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This place has made me an official fan of dry hot pot and has made it an item I seek out regularly. This place does it all and on top of everything else has made the process of ordering dry pot convenient, orderly and less anxiety inducing since everything is explained clearly to you. The only complaint I have is their restrictive complimentary drink or rice system and the fact that the price here is slightly more expensive than other dry hot pot places. [[HIGHLIGHT]]But for that extra price you get a clean, welcoming English speaking place to order from[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

We stumbled upon Double Ma La Tang on a Saturday afternoon and decided to give this restaurant a try after seeing many young Asian diners inside. The menu we saw from outside showed preset combos for dry and hot pots with a variety of proteins for $15.99. The host was very patient and helpful in explaining their menu options. He told us that building our own dry and hot pot was cheaper as the combos only contained 250g/.5 lbs of toppings, whereas building our own would be 500g/1 lbs for the same price. Obviously we decided to build our own pots and tried to stick to only a pound worth of food. The toppings bar was very clean and compact. There wasn't a huge selection, but it had staple items like seafood, fishballs, noodles, vegetables, and meat. I really enjoyed the freedom of selecting any topping that I wanted in a malatang since it typically has a lot of random vegetables that I don't care for. It's also nice that it's a flat rate here for all toppings, unlike some of the other malatang places so it doesn't make me guilty for grabbing more meat and seafood. Surprisingly I was able to get to .98 lbs!! We also got to choose our desired spice level. I was going to select medium spicy but we both opted for the extra spicy when I was told medium was about the level of shin ramen. Our dry and hot pot came within 10-15 minutes. Each order also came with a bowl of rice, which we could have swapped out for a drink in the fridge. I really enjoyed my hot pot since it had good flavors, all the ingredients I wanted, and the perfect amount of spice. However the dry pot version with the same spice level was unbearably spicy. It was difficult to eat and enjoy that dish. Perhaps they should have warned us that the dry pot spice level would be way hotter than the soup version. Regardless, I had a great dining experience here and would love to come back whenever I'm craving malatang. I'm also interested in trying their skewers.

so yummy and really good portion for the price! the food: i basically poured in everything i wanted without really thinking and was thoroughly surprised at how cheap it was! the flavor was also great, i wish it was a litttttle stronger but no complaints. they also have a delicious hot pepper sauce on the side. [[HIGHLIGHT]]the space: not super big but it wasn't too busy when i went[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] the service: fast

More like 3.5. This is a self served dry/ hot pot place. You pick the ingredients you want and how you would like it cooked. It's not bad when you want a quick mala fix. They charge you by the weight of the food so don't go with hungry eyes or it'll add up lol.

Really good skewers. I like their skewers far better than their malatang and dry pot. The sauce is great - a bit sweet, salty and spicy. I love the chicken tender the most. However, the quality of this place can be inconsistent. I went there once and ordered online a few times. This explains the 4 star.

The best type of dinner is one you can build yourself, and the options at Double Ma La Tang let you craft the perfect hot or dry pot! You start off by grabbing a bowl and some tongs, and from there you can choose from a variety of fresh proteins, veggies, and carbs to be cooked. The best part: everything is weight-based, so you can make your portion as big or as small as your appetite that day! Once you've gathered all your ingredients, weighed your bowl, and chosen a spice level, you're set. I'm not sure if this is a dinner-only combo, but you have the option to get a bowl of rice OR drink with your meal. I specifically ordered a dry pot with a ton of veggies/tofu and it was amazing! A very well-balanced mala spice, not too salty either. Some friends had the meat and seafood options in their bowls and mentioned it was equally delicious! If you have extra space in the tank, I recommend getting a skewer to pair with your meal! I just happened to throw on a fried white beech mushroom because I was starving and the crispiness was a great contrast to the soft food in my dry pot.

Was craving something spicy, so we found a malatang place nearby. Right when we entered, we saw the amount of toppings they had on display. Knowing me, I had a hard time choosing what I wanted in my hotpot and knew that the more I added, the more expensive it was going to be. We ended up getting all sorts of toppings and the price was honestly okay considering the amount of food we got. I believe I got the least spicy possible because I have terrible spice tolerance. But I realized that I made the wrong choice because it ended up being too bland for me. Anyways, the staff were friendly and got our order in for us pretty quickly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There wasn't anyone else in the restaurant, but the ambiance was nice because everything was very clean and the place was in a pretty centralized area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Ambiance: 4/5

An Unforgettable Omakase Experience!…read more We celebrated the 4th of July with an incredible omakase dinner at Masaki, and it exceeded every expectation. Every course was beautifully presented, impeccably fresh, and perfectly balanced. From the delicate Red Sea Bream and buttery Scallop to the luxurious Toro with Caviar, Sweet Shrimp with Uni, and the unforgettable Eel with Foie Gras, each bite was a masterpiece. What truly elevated the evening was Michael, our sushi chef. He was warm, engaging, and exceptionally knowledgeable. He took the time to explain every course, the origin of the fish, the flavors, and the best way to enjoy each piece. His passion for his craft was evident, and his attention to detail made the entire experience feel personal and memorable. Dining at the sushi bar gave us a front-row seat to watch the artistry behind every piece. The quality of the ingredients, the precision of the preparation, and the genuine hospitality made this one of the finest omakase experiences we've ever had. Thank you, Michael, and the entire Masaki team, for making our holiday celebration so special. We can't wait to return for another unforgettable evening!

The tempura got mixed reviews from our party. Some of us loved the thick breading and others weren't a fan. The tempura sauce is amazing. There is an omakase option, which we haven't tried but would like to one day.

There was a long wait as we put our names down for a party of four, but there is a lot to do in the mall as you wait. Our party of four was able to get seated on a Sunday afternoon after about 30 mins or so. The indoors is very well decorated and it has a nice dimly lit atmosphere. Something this place does do really well is the plating and presentation. Our first appetizer were these shrimp balls and they served 9 items on this really stunning tree holder. We ordered pork, some boiled bok choi, and Peking duck. I think in NYC this was the best Peking duck experiences I have had. They provided a large variety of toppings more than just the basic green onions. They ask if you want the bones boiled or fried afterwards. They provide a large amount of wraps for you to enjoy, and the duck was prepared beautifully. Now this place does get pricey but my friends and I loved our visit. They show you how to make each roll, they provide plastic gloves are you prep the duck rolls. Will definitely plan to come back, every thing we ate was fantastic and we had a great time. It does get a bit pricey however.
