Pho Ve Dem is one of our favorite pho restaurants that we just recently discovered. It is typically always busy here, and sometimes parking can be a bit challenging since it is a smaller lot, but that just shows how popular it is. It is also one of the few places still open after 12AM. The staff is consistently friendly, I think they're family owned and run. The pho is customizable to what meats you'd like in it. The quality and flavor are always on point. I love their Chicken Pho. One thing to keep in mind is that they are cash only, but they do accept Zelle. There is a Chase right next door too. This was a late night stop and in many respects and unexpected delight. It was close to 10 PM and this restaurant was quite busy and remain busy the entire time that I was there. Service was extremely efficient and frankly more than satisfactory. The restaurant is so small that it's very simple to get service. The Pho was packed full of ingredients however, I did not find the broth to be as satisfying as everything else that was included, which was more than ample. The serving size I chose was the largest next time I will not do so because it is truthfully an abundant meal. The ambience however, is akin to a very simple no-frills eating establishment. I was frankly put off when at the end of the meal I went to the restroom and one of the bus cart was in the hallway full of scraps and broth, etc.. I think the places too small for the volume of business that they do, which is what adds to the discomfort in the ambience. However, I must say that given the amount of business they have and how absolutely ample their portions are. The wait wasn't too bad. The only complaint I would have is the cleanliness, but this is Bellaire. Tables were not cleaned properly and the pho bowl looked dirty from the outside still. Man, I went to this place because I had a LATE NIGHT craving for pho and it was one of two places open. I walked in at 11 pm and it was packed with Asian people (good sign) and they had to squeeze me in a spot which I was so grateful to not have to wait. It is honestly now probably top 2 favorite pho places in Houston for me. I don't understand why it's not rated higher than it is... The pho broth is maybe not as herbaceous as some others, just a little less herby, but it is definitely hearty and fresh and has really good salty flavor, they have regular and fresh noodles so I ordered a side of fresh noodles to try it out and it was a different experience, very cool. Josh and the other waitstaff took care of me and made suggestions a which were helpful. I got the custom beef pho where you can pick 5 meats. I did get the upgrade which is filet and omg insane. The tendon was super tender. The fatty brisket is a little chewy which I'm fine with but I know some don't like that. Owners are father and son duo. This one is my local gem. One of those places that you may pass up but will u turn - no problem to double back to. Family ran business. More likely than not, you'll meet the usual faces if you order take out as often as I do. LSTS. I lost someone close to me that ate pho with me and while their health was declining they enjoyed when I would bring him his "chicken noodles" as he called them. The place is not large and the decor they do have is very minimal. There are usually a mix of Vietnamese families and young people hanging out here. The bathrooms are not in the best of shape and the parking situation is a little tight beyond 5 spaces. Take a peep at the menu and know that it's basically all pho. It's very straight forward and totally feels like a one-sheet of meat cuts and bowl sizes. I appreciate the beefy broth, which in addition to being fairly clean, was a little too easy to slurp. My bowl of dac biet goodness was devoured quickly and I was very impressed with how much meat was included. I thought the tendons, bo vien meatballs, and flank cuts were generous and abundant. Service is going to be a crapshoot. Even for folks who speak Viet, the service can be a little rough around the edges and the vibe is super casual. The thought of waiters screaming orders across the room is not far off and to make matters more complicated, it's cash only. (#2) Strangely, I was really into their strong Vietnamese iced coffee. We were looking for a Pho place that was open late at night and decided to give it a try. It was not too busy when we got there and had a choice of tables. We selected one close the pay counter which we did not realize as it was an inner table. There got pretty busy when we left with lots of to go orders. We ordered the large combo Pho that includes a variety of meats like meatball, flank, tendon, tripe, etc. the price for medium and large was the same. The broth was delicious. Well seasoned. There amount of meat was also very generous. The only thing was the noodles. Not sure exactly what it was but it seemed to have been overcooked. It was not bad but tasted different somehow. Place was clean. Utensils were on the table and you grab your own chopsticks, soup spoon and sauce dish. After eating, you pay at the counter by indicating the number at your table. I got the large dac biet pho which I found interestingly priced the same as the small. They definitely had that price anchoring strategy locked down as I was definitely tempted to go with the extra large portion for just a dollar more. Overall the broth was full bodied and flavorful and unlike other places with a disproportionate noodle ratio, it was well balanced between the noodles and everything else. Atmosphere is straightforward and basic with somewhat of an Asian cafeteria style vibe to it. DO NOT GO. Horrible hygiene, found a roach in my bowl of pho. I went with my girlfriend, we got an appetizer, and a bowl of pho each. I was halfway through my bowl and then a roach float to the top. I was horrified and notified the waitress and she offered a replacement. After agreeing, I changed my mind and just wanted out of the restaurant so i asked to cancel the replacement. After which she walked by and told me i'd just be charged for my appetizer and the bowl of pho my girlfriend was eating. We watched Everything Everywhere All at Once at 8pm, came out of the movie and were so jarred that we decided to go somewhere before heading home. We arrived at 11:15pm and noticed two young women - maybe late teens, early twenties - outside the restaurant, scantily dressed and talking to a guy. We walked in past them. We sat at the table in front of the cash register and were asked whether we have cash. I rarely have cash on me but happened to carry a full wallet this time, so being cash only wasn't an issue. After we ordered, one of the women wearing a dress barely covering her bum came in and stood within 6" of my bf that I got up and changed tables. Wtf. The pho was ok. The large dac biet was just shy of $10, the soup didn't have depth, the beef had a strong smell, and the noodle amount felt small. It was evening and I was looking for a banh mi place. Unfortunately, since the Pandemic, nearly every Vietnamese sandwich place in the area closes early. As I was driving down Bellaire, I went past Pho Ve Dem--which literally translates to "come home in the evening pho"--and decided to make a u-turn and try it out. As the name alludes, this place is only open in the evenings from 5:00 pm until 2:00 am on weekend nights. It appears to be a family-run operation with every member, including the elderly ones, assigned to perform a task. The parking lot was very cramped, and is shared with other businesses that also open at night, including a massage parlor. Nevertheless I was able to find a parking spot and went inside. The restaurant is minimalist in decor and consists of several long tables flanked by short ones around the walls. Fluorescent lighting illuminates the dining room. It was certainly a step up from a hole-in-the-wall but clearly not fancy. As I was dining alone, I chose a short table. The server saw me and gave me a basic menu that consists of staple items normally found at a pho place. I gave it a quick glance and decided to order a large Pho Dac Biet and a Coke. My drink came out first and it was a Coca Cola in a can with a plastic glass filled with ice. Moments later, my pho arrived. It certainly had a fragrant aroma. There is a good balance of meats and noodles, as well as broth. The meats are fresh and has a good variety of different cuts, but not too much of one particular type. The noodles were also fresh as well. It was certainly delicious and I consumed the entire bowl. The prices are very reasonable at Pho Ve Dem, although it is a cash-only business. Fortunately, a Chase Bank with 24-hour ATM is located right next door! Overall I really enjoyed Pho Ve Dem. I did not plan to have pho for dinner but I certainly did not regret it. Well we absolutely love pho! I mean the season doesn't matter we enjoy it regardless if it's the super hot or really cold. This was the first cold day of the season leaving the mall and wanted something warming for dinner. Our normal Bellaire pho restaurant closed last month so we needed to find somewhere new plus somewhere that stays open late since we sometimes crave soup late night on the weekends. Pho Ve Dem didn't disappoint, they have been added to our favorite list. Great soup, service was solid and the space is what you'd expect in a traditional pho restaurant. Broth are beefy and sweet but not sweet like eating che. Pho noodles they use are not my liking but does not take away from the experience. Cash only and you pay at the register when finish eating. It's a very laid back, old school, Vietnamese style restaurant so be prepared to be seated where ever there's seat available. Basically, they open whenever and close whenever.
