I have visited Pho Viet in Five Points many times now. I usually get the chicken or beef pho and their shrimp spring rolls with peanut dipping sauce. I have always enjoyed my experience! Their broth is fresh and soothing and the meat is tender. The only thing I notice is that the toppings are often not so fresh (wilted basil or bean sprouts are not firm). Wow, love the pho here!!! I've tried both take out and dine in now and the portion sizes are massive!! The rare steak pho is incredible, I love the flavor of the broth and the steak is perfectly tender. Service is great in the restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised to see it pretty busy on a Saturday evening! My bf and his kids love eating pho here so we came for his daughter birthday. I'm not a huge pho person so my daughter and I got yellow noodles with beef which is essentially like Lo mein. I did no vegetables and I think it was $13.99. The noodles were flavorful and the beef was tender. I put sriracha on it cuz I love the spice and it was so good. Vietnamese coffee is one of my favorites so I couldn't leave without one. It's extremely strong which I love and it's creamy from the condensed milk. I'll definitely come back here again. This was my second visit. The staff was friendly and attentive, and since it wasn't busy, service was quick. It's also super convenient being right next to a laundromat--I can eat while waiting for laundry. Food-wise, I really liked the beef stew from my first visit. This time I tried the spareribs, which were just okay--too much sauce for me. I love the delicious, fresh, Vietnamese food at this cozy spot. The summer rolls are longer and narrower than I'm used to, but just as tasty. The peanut sauce is thick, not thin and watery like some places. The massive serving of chili lemongrass tofu with rice vermicelli is so good--even if I couldn't taste any chili in it. I ordered the same along with the spring rolls (I think this was what they were called). Everything was good until I looked at the bottom of the roll and noticed this meat at the bottom. I had already eaten some only to find out it was pork. There is no descriptions of the food, so there was nothing saying that these had pork, and I don't eat pork. I should've made sure. I'll take that. The beef bowl (again, don't remember the name) was delicious! It was very flavorful and steaming hot. It came with cilantro, bean sprouts, jalapenos and a lime! Delicious. Genuinely wasn't impressed. The beef was so tough and seemed to be cooked prior to the broth being poured on. Rice noodles are chewy but at least they have normal Sriracha. I've now been to both Pho Viet locations. I get the lean beef pho. I'm a simple person when it comes to my pho. Just give me meat, noodles and some fixings. It was just what I needed on a rainy December day. I have a soft spot for boba and Thai tea. Put them together and we have an obvious choice for a drink. The boba here is the small tapioca balls! I can have Pho during any season! Normally we get the 66 which is the bún bò hue which is spicy and has beef and pork sausage. One of our favorites things to get here. We love to add extra chili oil too. Another dish we love to get is the vermicelli dishes with the bbq pork and crispy rolls so delicious and fresh. Try their crispy shrimp rolls such a good appetizer. They do tend to get busy during dinner time make sure to go early and get your order in quick. They have plenty of room for big and small parties. One of the things I miss most about living in the DC Metro is the preponderance of Vietnamese food. I especially missed it today, when I got the most disgusting pho I've ever had in my life. I tried to send it back because the first thing I picked out looked like tendon. Tendon is fine, but I didn't want tendon today. Nope, apparently what I was holding up was flank. That's flank about like I'm a neurosurgeon. And I'm NOT a neurosurgeon. It might not be tendon, not that's not flank. The rare steak might have been rare at one point, but it was DEFINITELY not rare today. And it didn't cook to this point in the time it took to get from the kitchen to the table. This was lunch meat, straight up. There was also no basil, just cilantro. When we asked for basil, we were told they don't often have basil because the owners grow everything fresh. So they can grow copious amounts of cilantro, copious amounts of jalapeños, produce copious amounts of bean sprouts, and harvest enough limes to give each person a quarter of a LARGE lime ... but they can't grow enough of something we have growing in our backyard. I've only been to this location and just learning there is a second location! The food is very tasty and the customer service is always great! The restaurant feeds all of my families different taste buds, we go for a simple beef and noodles sometimes and other times we like to experiment and try something a little more daring. The last time we did take out here I tried squid for the first time. On the menu it's 'spicy curried squid' it was seasoned very well and I'll certainly go back for more! Review in detail is too long to post here as a thorough review, so I'll provide the wave-top points / details below. See my Facebook public post for the entire review if you wish. 1). viewed menu provided at table, ordered, ate, and was then charged a different (higher) price and when asked to explain the higher price the server showed me a totally different/ second menu and explained (poorly) that the menu has been updated and said... 2). The boss said to do this. YES, she said the boss / owner has provided the guidance and instruction to do this!??? Personally and as a professional myself, I find this very hard to believe but went with it to avoid "another" "indifference". OWNER, I'm talking to you now: if this is not true, (her claim) fire her but first read this entire review! If it is true, that's a bad business decision, in fact, I'd bet it's illegal... which also makes me think she's BS'g. Anyway, let's move on. Was I the first?? How many didn't notice?? Is this still common practice?? 3). After checking prices on the "new" menu, I find that I was still charged about $14 higher than expected. At this point her explanation is, is that she accidentally put another tables two drinks on our tab and that she'll call them (already left) and get this all fixed. 4). She / server disappears to the back (apparently the bathroom) for 10 minutes while we wait for what I expected to be a quick refund and recharge of correct amount. She was unnecessarily (or suspiciously) nervous and panicking over what I first perceived as an honest and simple mistake that she could've just said, "sorry, I'll refund and charge correct amount". 5). She did that (and so much more) and I ended up being charged the correct (sort of because truthfully I should've been charged based on the menu we were first provided) amount based on the second/new menu. She did call the other customer (sketch, how'd she know them and have the number, plausible but unlikely yeah?) and also called the owner in front of me at least 2 times (really thought?) but I can't confirm unless the owner confirms. That's the wave top details, but if I captured your attention, I'd recommend taking the time to read the whole experience on my Facebook, as best as I could write it. Pictures are attached, I don't know her name but I can easily describe her and identify her of the two servers working there at that time. Lastly I'd like to say that this was not an honest mistake, I know this pho* sure, pun intended. But seriously, and I don't say this for any other reason but to support that claim, after 20 years of active duty service in the USMC which allowed me to work for, with and then lead tens and tens of thousands of adults (young men and woman) over the course of my career from all different backgrounds and ethic groups etc from around the country, I can read people very well, and she didn't make a simple honest mistake. I've seen my fair share of Marines get in trouble and watched them squeal and squirm and make excuses, just as she did. I honestly believe, given the totality of all circumstances (which I couldn't portray them all in written format here, such as nonverbal cues) she overcharged us purposely thinking we wouldn't notice. That much I know for sure, otherwise it wouldn't had taken nearly 30 minutes to resolve. read more

So yummy! I moved out here from the San Francisco Bay Area and have been missing many ethnic foods. Well, this hit the mark. First Vietnamese in over a year. I had the BBQ Pork & Crispy Roll over Rice Vermicelli noodles #64. Tasted fresh and delicious. The crispy rolls were thinly rolled. Loved all the pickled veggies and added extra cilantro. The pork was very flavorful. Robust iced Vietnamese coffee. It trumps Thai coffee by a mile. I had the fresh roll. Was so-so. Still didn't subtract from my visit. Probably won't order again. I'd say one of the best if not the best pho restaurant in town. I've heard they had a decent turn over with ownership and people were saying the taste of their dishes went down. This was my first time trying it so I can't compare the entrees from the old ownership to new, but I thought everything tasted good! I ordered number 11 and 63. Was a huge fan of the pho thai with some chili oil added, but the bbq pork in the vermicelli was decent; bit too chewy and fatty for my taste. The location is fairly easy to access, though there can be lots of traffic on two notch pending time of day, but there's ample amounts of parking space. There was hardly a wait, so we got seated immediately and it didn't take long before the food came out upon order. Definitely a great family orientated restaurant or a place to grab a meal with friends. Their menu has a broad selection of dishes to choose from starting from rice to noodle dishes. For a quick bite to grab, it's is definitely you place. I had the pho with tripe, flank steak and tendon. The flavor was good, but the hoisin sauce wasn't at every table and you had to walk around to get a bottle. Also, my broth had a heavy 5-spice flavor and my cilantro tasted more like Italian parsley than cilantro. The menu isn't as diverse, so it limits your order to soup options, rice dishes and some simple appetizers. The service was great, in that it was timely, and from order to food on table, it was amazingly quick. There was a ton of seating, and the bathrooms are undergoing an update that looks nice. In terms of parking, it's ok, but it can be difficult to get to if crossing traffic. read more

Went for lunch last week. The menu has English in small font. The crispy eggroll was a shrimp with a wrap around it and fried. The "entree" I ordered had barely grilled vegetables that had smoked char taste to them. The hostess directs people where to sit with her butt in a booth. Her help understands no English and he brought out an extra appetizer that we didn't order. I told lazy butt and she didn't take the time to understand what I was saying before dismissing me. When she brought the sub par entrees(both) she saw what I was saying and took the appetizer. My bill still had the appetizer on it. Misplaced arrogance smells up this joint. This is my go to Pho spot in Columbia they never let me down... on the Pho side at least. This time I tried a few different things and didn't feel so enthusiastic but they were okay. The salt and pepper squid was a no go. I thought it would be like calamari but I was wrong. They were big chunks of deep fried (in old grease) pieces of squid... not very good and I like squid. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their pho! My bf and I got delivery and it was well packaged. I loved the vietnamese iced coffee I got. It was a tad bit too sweet with the condensed milk but the bitterness balanced it out well. I got the pho special and my bf got the beef stew noodles. His was a little spicy but he thoroughly enjoyed the flavors of both the broth and the beef. I got a taste and the beef was so tender! It definitely hit the spot. As for the pho special, I had no complaints. It wasn't the best pho I've had but it was pretty good considering the location - in Columbia, SC! You ever have that one place that becomes your go-to place for a certain type of food? It's like a process for it to become your go-to: you go back multiple times to make sure the first time wasn't a fluke, you try random things on the menu to make sure it's not just one dish, & you may even go at different times to test the quality of service. Yeah, I had that place when I lived in Washington. Then I moved and was disappointed by every place that served pho. So disappointed that I have been pho-free for 4 years. Then I moved to Columbia and during my Yelp browsing I stumbled across Pho Viet & all of its praise-worthy reviews...and kept scrolling. I was scarred from my less- than-par pho experiences, and those places had decent reviews also. Finally, a cold front came to town and I found myself wearing long-sleeves craving the steamy aromatic slurp worthy dish. So fine, with all of my skepticism in tack, we make the trip, order, and receive our food. The service and atmosphere alone are excellent but the food...will.it.taste.amazing???
