Ok.. not going to lie. Im very jaded when it comes to raamen. Raamen is supposed to be a cheap and tasty quick meal but depending what goes in it, can wrack up the price. One thing that immediately stood out to me is they are called Hokkaido raamen, but dont have Hokkaido raamen (Hokkaido raamen tends to be buttery with seafood.. but there are many variations). The pros: very friendly staff that didnt charge me extra for a sprinkle of cilantro. Clean place and well presented food. The cons: noodles are way too soggy. Good raamen needs to be much firmer. The chashu (por) for the price of the dish should have been the size of my fist, but was more the size of a couple thin slices of Canadian bacon. The temperature was also luke warm. Ramen needs to be hot hot hot (forgivable though because I imagine a lawsuit if it b was served as its supposed to be) Overall: way too over priced for what it is. I would say this is a $7 bowl of raamen. Don't get me wrong... it was tasty... but heavily price gouged. Alas.. this is kind of par for course for raamen stateside. To be fair, the service was fine. I was seated right away, the restaurant was clean, the staff was friendly, and the ambience was nice. So this is why I added a star. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. I ordered bao buns and fried tofu (agedashi). The tofu wasn't crunchy at all--it was greasy, mushy, and left oil all over my fingers. I tried one bite and couldn't eat the rest. The bao buns had very thin slices of pork belly that tasted more like bacon, paired with lettuce and tomato. It felt more like a BLT than a bao bun. When I order bao, I expect fresh herbs and pickled vegetables like radish, carrot, and cilantro--something that actually reflects traditional flavors. Instead, this felt like a poorly executed Americanized version. I've lived in many places, and one thing I've learned is that if you're going to bring Asian cuisine to a small town, it should still taste like Asian cuisine. We already have plenty of Americanized food with places like McDonald's and Wendy's. What makes Asian food special are the authentic flavors, and minimizing them doesn't do justice to the cuisine or the culture. After spending the afternoon at the pumpkin patch we were cold and tired. The last thing I wanted to do was cook dinner so I looked up some ramen and pho places in the area and Hokkaido popped up- it had great reviews and was just a few minutes away, downtown Lexington which I have never been to but was super cute. Anyways we came in around 630 and were seated immediately. There were a bunch of families here already but a good amount of tables so it didn't feel crowded. With the weather getting cold so fast we knew we all wanted ramen. My daughter went with the kids ramen that came with chicken Katsu and fries- she loved it and the portion was huge especially go the price. My son wanted to try the new seafood ramen and loved it!! He also helped my daughter finish her fries and chicken. I'm went with the garlic ramen and my husband went with a spicy one. We went as a family of 4 and our bill was over $100. For mainly noodles and a small amount of meat-- $15-$20/entree felt very expensive. - The booth at the very front is noisy, we were disrupted every time someone came in or out, and freezing with the weather when we were there. Gusts of freezing temperature chilled us to the core when the door opened. Absolutely not the restaurants fault, just a note if you are dining with temperature sensitive guests. Sit further from the door or at a table. - they do serve sushi but it is all pre-made. Our son was not feeling Raman so we asked for a California roll and they were not able to make it, b/c it all comes pre-made. - it did not affect our meal but the staff seemed to have a great deal of trouble with the sake machine. It looked like it was boxed sake and it wasn't lining ing up on the machine. It kept spraying the team. Bottom line: we will be back but likely just as a couple. I will probably eat two plates of the red bean paste balls myself and we will enjoy all the different noodle bowls! read more

I tried this place while I was in South Carolina, it is one of the best ramen spots I have went to. I definitely recommend trying it. Their bao buns were very delicious, I will definitely be getting them again. This place is top tier. They have so many ramen choices it's ridiculous. You can even create your own, which is very cool. I was too nervous to do that because I didn't know which to choose from. I am still new to ramen and sushi and all that. Definitely a 10/10 restaurant. They don't serve alcohol, but have plenty of non-alcoholic options like bubble tea. I chose to go with good old hot green tea. After perusing the options, I chose to go with the Spicy Beef Ramen. $18. Added Wood Ear mushrooms for $2, and some extra chili oil $1. Definitely worth it. This Bowl of Ramen was pure comforting heartwarming food. The noodles were perfectly cooked with plenty of chew. The broth was rich, oh so flavorful and clung to the noodles like they were in love. The thinly sliced beef brisket was tender and flavorful, but That Beef Rib is Where it's at!!! 10/10 delicious. They aren't boasting when they say it literally falls of the bone. We went at like 2pm on a Saturday and we had to wait for only a few minutes, but the place was pretty packed. The staff were friendly and we were pleased with service. We got the brown sugar boba ($5 each), pork buns ($9 for 2), spicy beef ramen ($18) with egg (+$2), and the garlic tonkotsu ramen ($16.50) with extra egg (+$2). The brown sugar boba was the most milky boba I've seen. I was kind of surprised since the boba I've had in this flavor is usually more brown, but it tasted just fine after a real good mix. The pork buns, I'll admit, were a bit of a disappointment. We were anticipating it was da bao and not gua bao (our fault), so we were a bit surprised when we saw what was served. I've had gua bao before and really liked it, but this one having tomato in it was really.. odd. I was not a big fan of the taste. My date was also not very impressed with it, though he didn't find the tomato as odd as I did. The presentation was very cute, however, since the buns came with little umbrellas staked in them. The spicy beef ramen was very heavy. The beef back rib was very tender, the brisket was delicious, and the rest of the toppings on the ramen were very good. My only criticism was that the shoyu base lacked depth. It just kind of tasted like spicy flavor-packet base (think Shin red pack) rather than having anything more to it. I ended up only leaving the broth when I was done (partially because it wasn't my favorite and partially because I was super full). My date disagreed with me and maintains that the spicy beef ramen is his favorite. The garlic tonkotsu ramen has a deep flavor according to him. He ended up finishing his entire meal, but was very stuffed at the end of it. I tried some and it was pretty good, though a more creamy soup base isn't really my bag. Hokkaido Ramen House delivered - I was so impressed by the broth I had - it was rich and not too salty, the noodles had a great texture, there were big pieces of chashu pork and nicely cooked soft boiled eggs and veggies. Hidden gem! I had no idea there was a ramen place close to my work. I am so beyond happy! I have so many ramen places in California where I used to live and this is as close to California ramen I can find in the South. I ordered online and it was quick and easy food was ready just on time. I got the Tonkatsu Shoyu Ramen and it was amazing! The broth is great not overly salty and just light and easy. Very pleased with the flavors. I also ordered the Hokkaido milk tea with boba it was a very different taste I normally get black milk teas or early grey and sometimes rose milk tea. I tried this through DoorDash the other day for the first time because I have heard nothing but good things and my coworker said they have gf noodles. I was rather nervous because I wasn't sure if they did substitutions like that but they sure did, and I didn't get up-charged for it. :) I. Was. So. Happy. I tried the Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen with gluten free noodles and the Hokkaido Milk Tea with Boba. The ramen was delicious, the broth was flavorful, and there were lots of vegetables and even some nori (I love veggies). It's been several years since I had been able to eat ramen at a place that actually has gf noodles. I think the clouds parted and an angelic choir sang when I slurped my noodles. As for the boba tea, the flavor was nice and sweet and the boba itself was perfectly cooked. I personally like creamier boba so for me it was great. I will have to try more flavors later on. The only con to my meal was that the pork in the tonkotsu was a little dry but that was probably moreso because I had it to-go and not fresh in restaurant, so if I do manage to find the time to go in person then I will try it again. I don't understand what the fuss is all about when it comes to this new spot in town. The food looks better than it tastes. I wanted to love this restaurant. I had very high hopes because there isn't much Asian variety of food around here & I was just so excited to try it out! Being Asian myself and having such a deep connection to good authentic Asian food, I expected this restaurant to really deliver. I mean all the pics I've seen on social media and all around town are exceptional photos of ramen bowls. How could I not have high expectations? Well, my expectations were too high apparently because the ramen was good, but not great or anything super special like it advertises. The soft boiled eggs were cooked perfectly and the vegetables were yummy but the broth was just lacking. I ordered the Tantanmen and although the spice was good, it just didn't have a deep and full brothy flavor I was hoping to experience. I've had real authentic bowls of ramen before and this just wasn't it. It was similar to the real thing, but still lacking in the flavor department. It felt like a waste of money because this Tantanmen bowl was a whopping $17. I expected way more flavor for that price and I just hate when I spend a lot of money on food that just doesn't deliver. My son did not feel like eating ramen, so he ordered a Crab Crunch sushi roll after seeing a picture of it on the menu. He said it tasted "just okay." We go out for sushi to different restaurants often because we love sushi and like to pick our favorite places. This roll looked really tasty but again, it was lacking in flavor. My youngest son settled for some broth and noodles with a soft boiled egg because they don't have a kids menu. So, if you have picky eaters, you might have trouble in that department. He ate the egg and the noodles and did not like the broth. I thought that was odd because he loves brothy Asian soups. When I tasted his broth, again it was ok, but nothing special. Nothing about the broth stood out at all really. My older brother started out with a seaweed salad & when it was delivered to our table, it was STILL FROZEN, like it just slipped onto a plate straight from the airtight frozen package it came from. It was still in the form of a brick too and as someone who worked in Asian restaurants before, that was just unprofessional and done incorrectly. If you don't have fresh seaweed salad to serve your customers, at least thaw it out before you present it on a plate. He said his ramen was also just ok. My husband said the same about his ramen too. So for the price, we were kinda disappointed. It just wasn't worth the price. My oldest son also ordered shumai, something always we order when it's on the menu. We prefer to eat it steamed instead of fried. It was pretty good. However, you could immediately tell it was also the frozen packaged kind. These shumai dumplings are not fresh to order and that's okay. They still tasted fine, but they were also laid out upside down on the plate. Not sure if they knew that or now before they gave it to us. I wanted to like this place. I wanted to love it and rant about it with amazing reviews, but it fell short on the flavor of food.After seeing all the pics, I just expected a more delicious ramen soup and it wasn't. It was just average ramen and sushi for the price honestly. The rest of our experience was great though! We had wonderful service and the restaurant was clean. I also appreciate that the ramen was served steaming hot as it should be served. No one likes luke warm ramen soup and it is common in Asian culture to eat steaming hot soup.
