Customer service sucks so don't expect anything there, but the pho is decent and close by to my work, which is why our office frequents here. I've never stayed and eaten in the restaurant (which looks very run down and not terribly clean) but have ordered to-go a handful of times here and it's decent enough pho to satisfy your craving when you have it. I'd love to drive down the street to Pho Thai, but with the traffic on 38th it really is just much more convenient for me to order from Pho 38th. If you're really craving pho it'll do the job, but I think there are better (and friendlier!) places. read more

The service was good, I went when it was slow, so I didn't have a problem getting help. They got my food out on the table insanely fast. I only ordered chicken pho. The broth was tasty, but the chicken was disappointing. I am personally a fan of lean white chicken breast, but the meat was more dark meat with fascia and fat on it. Other people might prefer that type of chicken, but it just wasn't for me. I was ABSURDLY thirsty afterwards, which makes me question the MSG content levels in the soup. read more

I had the pho ga ( chicken ) and the chicken wasn't too fatty, I only had to pull fat off a couple pieces. I was surprised to see two other types of pho I wanted to try, (vegetable and broccoli with gyoza) having a very limited pho palate. We were offered tea, which I don't find happens very often at most pho places I go. They also had yummy looking appetizers and bacon fried rice for our return trip! Pho 38 has the best Pho I have tasted. The No 40 is the best. Good service and good bobble tea.

I go here for my Pho always, no other Pho place compares and I've tried several others. I only get vegetable pho and spring rolls but, how it's done is telling of the rest. The broth and veggies I can't ask for better, I don't have allergic reactions and I'm very sensitive to food. I even asked them to open one in Olympia cause I was living there and none of the Pho in Oly compared. If you want excellent Pho, you will find it here. I look forward to it when I'm watching my diet, it's the only fast food I have when on a diet. And sometimes I crave it even when not watching my diet. . I order take out from here at least once a week, which is perhaps why the service everyone complains about is not factored into my rating. I've tried all the pho in a 5 mile radius and this is my go-to. Love their vermicelli noodle salad bowls as well, even if their fried rolls have too much wood ear for my taste. Their chicken never tastes old. But best of all: their pork is not fatty--at most Vietnamese places the pork has more fat and gristle than actual meat. read more

We were visiting from Hawaii and after a wrestling tournament at the dome stopped at Pho 38. We love pho and eat lots in Hawaii. The pho here was awesome with big portions. I ate the beef stew pho which was the best I've eaten!! The sandwich and other entrees were awesome also. I give this place a 5 star and recommend it to pho lovers. read more

Food is okay and waiter service is poor! They seems to be more polite to American compare to Asian people.

I've only eaten here once and I swore I would never do that to myself again. I am Vietnamese but I don't know how to cook authentic Pho and seeing as how none of my family is near by, I rely on good Vietnamese restaurants to get my fix. Like PHO? This is some of the best. 1/2 star off for service. The folks are very business like. There is not much interest in explaining the menu or offering suggestions. Don't bother with the smile, they do not care. They won't be by to see how you like the food. 1/2 star off for the, well it is in a strip mall next to REI at the Tacoma Mall. It could be a fast food chain for all the decor. However the PHO, other rice dishes etc... are very tasty. Don't take a date here. Take your adventurous mom after church. read more

My girlfriend and I always get pho whenever she is in town and like to try a new place every time. The place we wanted to try was closed, so we ended up here instead. I must say, i was very happy that we ended up here because it was the best beef pho i have ever eaten! just enough spice and the meat to noodle ratio was pure perfection! I have been to 38th street 30+ times, service is hit and miss but the pho' is the best I have had anywhere. Great value and great food.

A totally different experience than Pho in California. This location lacked the Vietnamese feel, with a menu that has chicken and fries and fried rice trays and Korean dishes I wasn't sure if the food would be good. I saw they had sandwiches and thought that they were the Ban Mi. The sandwich was good but not what I expected. I ordered the Ham (which is cha lua - it was super thin sliced) and Fried Tofu. I thought the combo of both was great but the amount of ham was skimpy. It also lacked the pate which authentic Ban Mi have. Overall, I would come back for the sandwiches. read more

Terrific take out service despite a super busy Labor Day Sunday night. Efficient, fast and very good. Pho stock was full of flavor, yet not super salty. Lots of fresh ingredients and beef slices. If you like lots of basil or lime though, ask for extra. read more

It's okay here. There was alot of business traffic for lunch which is always good sign. Looks like alot of people are doing the healthier food thing these days. I still find that the PHO place down in Tukwila is the best, and I've tried PHO in about 5 different places. The price is always the same for Med or Lrg..most places don't have a small. $5.99 and you can easily share 1 with somebody else. Plenty in the bowl. I would come back here in a minute since it's closer to me than the Tukwila restaurant. So....if you ever get to Tacoma near the REI..you should stop into this PHO joint. You won't be disappointed. It's as good as anywhere else. The ambiance is just so so but at least I didn't seek to find mold or flies like the other person who left a review. I've seen worse and definitely better. no place is perfect and if you go to Vietnam and eat PHO, I can only imagine how much dirt and nasties would be around. This Pho restaurant has one of the better Vietnamese meatballs in Tacoma. Most other Pho restaurants use meatballs that taste like they were bought in the frozen section of a asian grocery store. read more

I ate here the other day. It was good. The service is average, give you things you need and thats about it. I had pho with brisket. I didnt really like that the cilantro was already in there when I got it. I just so happen to love it but not every one does. It made good left overs too. I prefer the place on South Tacoma Way but it was all in all a good experience. read more

Me and my daughter came here too eat and the food was ok broth could be stronger BUT the service was NOT friendly They talk Vietnamese among themselves very LOUD the whole time we were there nonstop and I felt VERY uncomfortable and wonder if they talking about ME it seemed that they were fighting will NOT come back HIGHLY NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!! read more

Great base, pretty fast service, they have cheesecakes, Boba tea's and an overall great variety... really enjoyed this place and will be coming back again. The only thing that I had an issue with is when I asked for steamed vegetables and they came out with fresh, because I like to throw in some extra veggies with my Pho, but it's just not quite the same when they're fresh as it is when their steamed. Although the overall appearance of restaurant seemed pretty clean when I was there and staff was friendly. So I would rated a four out of five but definitely worth checking out read more

Eh, a suitable substitution for when I don't have time to get out to Pho Hoa but nothing to write home about. The service is consistently horrid!! I had to flag down the waitress to get a drink refill. After several attempts she finally came over for my refill. When she returned she only filled my cup halfway!! She ran off before I could say anything. Service is annoying enough to keep me from going back but food is good enough to put up with it once in awhile. read more

We just ate here & the food was not great at all. The Pho is too slimy, the condiments aren't as good as it use to, the spring rolls HAVE A LONG STRAND OF HAIR on it, and the bubble tea is a bad instant mix, not great either. We instantly lost our appetite as soon as I found a hair on my food. Very disgusting. The workers just took off the particular item in our check and that's it. The food was non-impressive, the chicken in the chicken katsu tasted a little old, the service though, was downright rude. The atmosphere was "meh", again the service was lacking. If the service had been decent I might've even gave them three stars, but because the service is rude both on the phone and in-person, I can't give them more than one, and I can't give them my business anymore. read more
