Note this review is for the "shakes" only not food. Wanted to snag some shakes for the kids after wrestling at state but the ice cream spot was closed and I settled here. Shakes are powder and ice which isn't the best, but I should've known as they offer "bubble tea." Liquid gets finished fast and then you're stuck with flavorless ice. If you do choose to order the drinks here, let it melt a bit and it'll be better. The drinks are already fairly sweet so they won't really be watered down (they're also pure liquid so it's not like the viscosity will change). I had a pal order a drink with the boba and I tried it - the topping was pretty solid and not that chewy so that's a pass. read more

I don't mean to do this, but it must be said. If you were a fan of the famous Garlic Chicken from the 1990s-2023 that this establishment use to create, just know that the recipe has now completely changed. I have been gone from Washington state since my son was born back in 2008, and on every other time that I've visited, the Garlic Chicken was top-notch(Still the same). But just recently I made a short trip back in April of 2024, and that once perfect dish has changed drastically for the worse. Just know that there is no more silver lining for when it comes to visiting Freighthouse Square in Tacoma Washington. That was truly the last good thing it had going for itself, and now it taste like complete mush. I assume it's under new management. It's so dark inside the Freighthouse Square, I can't imagine anyone after reading this still attends if that was their jam. Have come here over the years but the most recent visit was a very poor experience. Ordered the chicken with vegetables. Menu says that this "comes with rice". I was very specific in stating that I did not want rice. In the past they have been very heavy on rice or noodles depending on the dish as a filler. My mistake for not checking my to-go order but it was all tied up neatly in a nice little bag. When I got home and opened the box it was filled with rice and minimal chicken and veggies. Server got our order wrong two days in a row. took an unnecessarily long amount of time for what we got and the quality of it.

I was driving past and saw a sign that said Wendy's Vietnamese. That's all I needed to read. Parked immediately and headed inside. I did not have much of an appetite and settled for an order of egg rolls. Those came out very quickly and to my surprise, Wendy wanted to surprise me with a complimentary order of shrimp spring rolls - a Vietnamese staple. The spring rolls were large filled with vegetables and shrimp - the sauce she makes for the spring rolls is absolutely amazing. A great take on Vietnamese peanut sauce with spice added. 10/10. The egg rolls were large as well with great flavor and came out piping hot. Wendy served the egg rolls with Vietnamese fish sauce as well as a sweet chili sauce. Both go great with the egg rolls. Wendy and Stuart sat down with me and we had a nice conversation while I enjoyed my rolls. It was quite the experience and their hospitality was truly felt. I would recommend this place to anyone that wants to try good food and meet some amazing people. read more

This is as amazing as I remember when my husband was stationed at Fort Lewis 17 -19 years ago. Then Wendy had a restaurant near Tacoma mall and in Seattle as well as in Freighthouse Square (where she first opened at least 2 decades ago). Now as far as I can tell, the restaurant is only at Freighthouse Square. My family knew Wendy personally; we have went Christmas cards for years. She was such a beautiful, graceful woman. The portions are humongous! My very fave is the hot and sour soup -- I've never been able to find anything like it any other place I've lived since. And the BBQ pork chow foon. Ordered a passion fruit boba and it was the most disgusting boba drink I've ever had. The drink wasn't even made of real passion fruit. It was an off yellow color and no seeds. Despite having an overall Yelp average on reviews that brought me a little bit of concern I actually really enjoyed my visit here at Wendy's. This restaurant is located in the Freighthouse Square building in the food court area. When I went here I saw that they had a lot of pho soup options but I wasn't really interested in having that. I wanted something a bit more on the lighter side. So I saw that they had a Banh Mi sandwich and that sounded perfect. And it was exactly what I wanted. Just the right amount of food. The bread bun was toasted to a pleasing range... just a light golden brown and the ingredients in the sandwich were fresh and enjoyable as well. The order was brought to me promptly as well. In addition to the sandwich I got some Vietnamese Iced Coffee which I also really liked. It was refreshing and the coffee was very enjoyable. So with my hesitancy pushed aside on trying this place I now know that Wendy's is an enjoyable place. Perhaps sometime in the future I will give their pho a try. read more

To my surprise it came with grilled pork and the pieces of pork were so fatty and it seemed as if they put left over pieces of pork in the sandwich. The sandwich barely had any veggies and no flavor at all. I ended up throwing away more than half of the sandwich. Each time I took a bite into that stale bread and nasty mystery meat I gagged and thought what a was of my hard earned cash. If you do eat here, do yourself a favor and don't get a sandwich. The Sadai chicken ( it's spicy and pea nutty) was always my favorite and Wendy was always so kind to my husband and his mom Mary. We took a chance and tried this restaurant too in Freight House Square. Food was very good! Again we all tried something different, I had a wonderful soup full of all good things. My daughter had the garlic shrimp with a little heat, also very good! The other two in our party also had good entrees but I can't remember the names. Definitely a place to go back and eat again! The only disappointing part was the fresh lemonade, very good but way over priced considering the small amount of ingredients used: sugar, water and just barely enough fresh lemon and no refill. I will legit have a craving for a sandwich from this place and put in a $50 delivery order just to get one of their sandwiches. Rose and "Sverhoeven Crispies" Have you ever seen tha episode of the "Golden Girls" where 'Rose' had Dorothy and nem' tryin the dish that taste so good but they had to hold their noses because of the horrible odor? It was a popular, made in her "back in St. Olaf" country, when you couldn't sleep...snack. Remember??? You know...the one where she was making this late night snack called "Sverhoeven Crispies" and to them they tasted like (I think..) chocolate and strawberries but the smell was just horrific???!! That's what this dish kinda reminded me of. I almost laughed while eating it. Seriously--it was very good but unfortunately, it had a smell that I just COULDN'T get around so I couldn't finish it. It started tasting like it smelled. Wow, the brain is powerful. Umm...It didn't look very appealing either. It looked like...like somethin' that I used to see in my sons diaper when he was a baby. Now, thats not good...AT ALL. Sverhoeven Crispies I....I...I just don't understand it nor know what to say. It looked horrible, smelled awful yet...tasted good! I'm...I'm just perplexed. Perplexed. I love using that word. Hey but look, if you haven't seen that episode...find it...watch it. That scene alone was hilarious enough but I digress. Now eeeeven with with the "Sverhoeven Crispies" experience-- I would definitely go back because my husbands dish not only tasted good but smelled good as well. The peapods were a beautiful green color, fresh and crisp (a few carrots for color) and a nice flavorful sauce. The meat was sliced thin, tender and they give you a good amount of it. Which is a definite thumbs up for me. I am a meat eater and beef in particuliar. Ummmm....meeeaaaatttt. I love meat. You can actually run out of rice before the meat dish is actually gone! Now dats what's up. AND...tha price was great. Very nice staff as well. Two days later went back and my hubs had the "Su Dai Beef with Peanut Sauce". Funny. Because the peanut sauce made him have the "Sverhouven Crispy" experience. Too pungent for him. I however, liked it. While it was a bit pungent from the cooked fresh peanuts, it had lots of meat, was a little spicy, crunchy, fresh, bright green broccoli pieces, onions and carrots. Carrots need to be a little thinner. I already ain't--that crazy about cooked carrots. Yep I sed 'ain't'. Anyway, I had originally ordered the Mongolian Beef so we switched dishes. He loved the Mongolian Beef. Not that colorful (the meat overshadowed the green onions--wow!) but very good with the right amount of sweetness. But ummm...yeah. Stay away from the "Prawns with Sverhouven Crispies smellin....Lobster Saucey...dish....concoction--thangy. Nope...that's not good at ALL. Speakin' of...: I sure miss the "Golden Girls". This was our first time in here and was very impressed with the food. I ordered the garlic chicken 4 stars and was almost too hot, but darn good. Food was fresh and very quick to come out. As I read the reviews I am sad that I never had the curry Wendy made, but hey there are a lot of good places to eat around here. Yummy! I have never had a bad dish here. Hands down, the best fried rolls in Tacoma. They have awesome Pho too! But, I must admit, I usually order the same thing every time I go.
